This item must have been nerfed because I just got it today and it is now an uncommon (green) quality item and the stats have been changed. It now looks like this:

88-133 damage Speed 2.80
(39.5 damage per second)
+15 Strength
+14 Stamina

Really upsetting because I have been waiting for a replacement to Whirlwind Axe for a while and it would have been nice if this was still a rare item. In fact, none of the quest rewards are rare now, they are all uncommon.

Im a little far in this chain q with my lv 42 shaman. When im done with the quests, what weap shuold i then take?...go dual wield with the mace or take the 2h axe?

A better alternative weapon for spell casters is the reward from Saving Yenniku in Stranglethorn Vale: Nimboya's Mystical Staff.

It's a shame that you can't complete this questline at 39. That mace would be ridiculously OP for any combat rogue in the bracket. It's still a fantastic leveling weapon, especially if you decide to go mace spec (which isn't a bad idea).

The Staff has now been buffed to be in line with others, stats are now

131-197 damage
(44.3 Damage per Second)
+12 Stamina
+24 Intellect

Definatly worth it now =)

for an enh shammy what would be better the axe or mace i am an orc so that boosts the axe a little

Axe has 12 Agility and -106 dmg
Mace has 12 Stamina and -115 dmg

Mace has 2.60 speed
Axe have 2.40 speed

So what would be better for max dmg/ 9 top dmg 12 stam Vs. 12 agil and some expertise.

EDIT:Just noticed that staff would be a pretty nice 2hander for me 5-8 dmg from Kang the Decepticator's dmg (twink)
Nice stam and very nice int=spell crit/hit (forgot which one) and mana.

the axe definately,
u have +5 exp and i think agi boost is good for enh due to the fact that critical hits give u focused, unleashed rage and flurry, nice to have a good crit proc

It's too bad the staff doesn't have any +spell power. If it did, I wouldn't have any problem deciding whether or not to replace it with Zum'rah's Vexing Cane. :(

unfortunately...that requires lvl 63 This is a lvl 45-52 or so quest chain

Actually, 63 is the item level, not the level required for the Ice Barbed Spear. The quest for it only requires 51. But good luck getting into an AV at that level, you could be queued for a while.

Am I the only one who is confused about the staff being the only non-blue. I know it doesn't really matter, it's not like the other weapons are that much better, but it's just odd that they wouldn't make the staff blue as well. Anyone else curious about this?

You have to do the Muisek series AND the Natural Materials quest, after they are done he will imbue the Natural Materials and Muiseks into weapons and give them to you.

W00t! Just finished this quest chain at level 45, soloed the entire thing!

Only hard part was the giants, the last part of the quest chain. I actually got that far by level 44, but the goblin wouldn't give me the zapper until level 45. :(

I was disheartened at first; even zapped, the giants were still 3-5 levels above me and very, very tough, but just play smart and play safe and you can grind 'em out.

thottbot is wrong on required level, i did the quest and got the weapon at lvl 40, BTW the mace is ugly, it looks like a hammer but does very nice damage(rogue)

Finished all the quests the witch doctor gave me and didn't receive diddly squat. It was kind of a waste of time considering I did all this in hopes of getting a new axe.

Just a note - You cannot get this quest until the Musiek quest line (Starts with "Testing the Vessel" and ends with "Mountain Giant Musiek") and the seperate "Natural Materials" quest are both finished.

Blue items would be nice, but when I completed this series of quests at level 42/43, the second to the last quest got me 4700 exp, and this quest, just where he gives you the weapon, also gave me 4700 exp.

Now that is level based, but for everyone, the 2 handed axe sells for over 3g to a vendor. Thats not too shabby.

So I completed this quest and I got NO reward for it. I don't know if there was a glitch, but I'm kinda PO'd about it. Unless he gives me the weapon choice after I hit 50. I dunno. I have a better weapon, but it'd be nice to at least have the reward for doing that pain in the behind quest. :|

For those moaning about the rewards think of it this way; yes, you already have better gear from instance runs - just pick the 2H Axe and vendor it for 3G

I just finished Mountain Giant Muisek, but i couldn't get this quest.
Is there an other prereq?

In the end of the double chainer quest there is some good rep, exp, and coinage at the end. Not bad if your already just grinding off those mobs in the first place. Hippos are great for completing the Natural Materials and good leather farming. Not too hard and never having to wait for them to respawn.

Did this at lvl 46ish, Druid.

Don't be disappointed by the rewards - think of the chain as a good way of getting a lot of XP. Because that's the only thing it is.

Every single reward from this chain is bad for its level, with much better alternatives.

But hey, the items get buffed to blue in WotLK. :)

For those following any Phase 2 gearing guides (Shaman, for me):
Fuerza del hipogrifo is a main hand weapon.
Hacha del draco ébano is a main hand weapon. So, don't do both in the hopes of dual wielding... rip
