This quest is named after a term in Quality Assurance, to refer to the current status of a submitted bug. The giver of this quest offers quite a few of them.

More specifically:

Not a Bug (dev declares the issue is intended functionality)
Cannot Reproduce (tester is unable to reproduce the bug after a new build is tested)
Need More Info (information submitted by tester is insufficient. dev needs more information about the problem)

make sure to kill the summoner's first and then finish off the void walkers. I found if I killed the void walkers first, I was unable to extract from them.

I found that you don't have to finish the channeling, you can just click the summoning stone and fly away.

Also it has nothing to do with who you kill first - I kill the Minions first and it works fine as long as you don't kill two Minions without Extracting from the first one.

So, kill the Summoner + Minion (doesn't matter the order), then extract the Dark Matter and only then kill another Summoner + Minion.

This item used in this quest, Dark Matter is probably a reference to Futurama, where Dark Matter is a fuel source that comes in the shape of a big black ball.

There is sort of a bug with this quest. If you try and use the on 2 voidwalkers right next to each other it wont let you collect from both of them. This may have to due with the fact that you don't have to target the mobs.

This quest's name is quite ironic. It's very bugged.

You can use the Rod of Siphoning on any dead Enslaved Minion; It doesn't matter if it was tapped or not. (This isn't considered a bug, it's just general information.)

The dark matter is NOT a 100% drop/siphon rate! Even if you just killed the Minion, you won't get the matter if you get to work right away. Nothing can guarantee that you WILL get one, but here are two things that will guarantee that that you WON'T:

Taking damage while siphoning - It'll interrupt the channeling effect.
Moving while siphoning - Again, another interrupt.

Interrupting the channeling effect flags the Minion as having been siphoned, so you will not be able to get dark matter from these corpses. This is what I consider a bug.

There is no pattern to finding a Minion that has dark matter. You can siphon it from the corpse while the summoner is alive, you can siphon it from the corpse after their dead. The order in which you kill the minion and summoner does not matter. It doesn't matter if you're in combat, or if you banished the minion, or if what-have-you. Every minion has dark matter. If your siphon isn't working, you either moved, took damage, or someone already siphoned it; It is possible that your siphon just won't work on occasion, most likely attributed to server lag.

This daily is not worth the amount of gold rewarded (at level 80). There are far easier, and far more enjoyable ways to get 13g than this quest.

The dark matter actually drops 100% of the time. The problem is that with all the bugs with the quest mobs (not being able to loot two mobs on top of each other, getting interrupted and losing your chance, etc) make it a headache to complete. I'd recommend doing this quest and Retest Now at the same time, as you can drink the Diluted Cult Tonic and get the Tainted Essences off the cultist mobs who accompany the voidwalkers.

The minions are not near the stone. They are further east as well as on the platform above around 54,30.

If you use the rod on a minion's corpse while other minion corpses are nearby, it will invalidate all the other corpses as well after using the rod. Only use the rod with 1 corpse present.

Also invalidates all nearby corpses if you are interrupted while using the rod.

If the quest doesn't bug out, it's a 100% drop rate.

The ACTUAL bug is that if you kill two voidwalkers in a row, you can only siphon the latest one you killed. In fact (this is untested) the voidwalker that you siphon might have to be the latest mob you've killed. Otherwise, when you try to siphon, it puts you in combat and stops the channel.

The bug annoying but easy to avoid once you're aware of it.

Of course, given the name of this quest, maybe it's not a bug ;)

It seems to be that you cannot aggro anything after damaging the voidwalker. I've tested it by purposely pulling adds. As long as I haven't directly damaged the voidwalker, I can kill the add, then the voidwalker, and sucessfully use the rod.

I suppose that if your add is another Void Summoner, then you'll still be screwed out of one Dark Matter.

I was able to test this today when I got a Void Summoner add. I killed the two Void Summoners before touching either of the Enslaved Minions, rooted one voidwalker, killed the other and siphoned him, then killed the rooted one and was able to siphon him too.

Moral of the story: Don't touch the Enslaved Minions until you're sure there's not going to be anything to interrupt your siphoning.

As Chaos noted above, the targets for the rod you are given are actually voidwalkers, and are minion servants to Void Summoners. Kill them and use the rod on the corpse. You won't find them on the lower tier of Aldur'thar, try the east side, one or two tiers above the main tier.

Good way of avoiding break while siphoning darkmatter, is to separate the void from the caster as far as possible. This way the caster doesn't intercept your siphon with melee, and you have the extra time while his shadowbolts fly.

A small tip for rogues doing this daily: you can get an extra Dark Matter (or two if you are Prep-specced) from a single warlock. Sneak up to him, sap him, kill the minion, siphon, then Vanish. Sap will fade and warlock will instantly resummon the voidwalker. Rinse, repeat.

Yep, if you accidentally get adds while trying to kill one, you just wasted your time because the rod won't work for that voidwalker. You have to kill the voidwalker and his master only, then use the rod. It sucks, because there are wandering pats and mobs everywhere, so it's very easily to get adds and waste a lot of time.

This was a frustrating quest for me because (1) as soon as I landed 5 summoners and minions converged on me at once and, although I managed to kill them all, I was unable to gather dark matter from any of the minions....(2) after a long wait for them to reappear, they were more spread out and I was able to fight them in pairs (summoner and minion) BUT most of the time I had the same issue as Catdog --whenever I applied the rod, I immediately entered into combat...and the siphoning stopped.

Eventually, I was able to gather 5 dark matters, but it took a long time. I tried to see a pattern such as described by others above and I think there ALMOST was one...the following order was the most successful (but not always):

1. Kill the Summoner.
2. Kill the Minion (make sure it is a bit away from the Summoner's corpse).
3. Use the rod on the Minion and gather Dark Matter.
4. Loot the Summoner and the Minion.

As long as you don't get an "entering combat" message at Step #3, you should be fine.

Once you successfully have 5 Dark Matters, so to the platform below, to the purple crystal that is named "summoning crystal", click on it (you get the "gears" icon) and that is all you need to do.

You need to kill Enslaved Minion, and then use your Rod of Siphoning, when they are death.
Then you get 5 Dark Matter (1 each killed Enslaved Minion) and go to Summon Stone.

Remember if you are on the dayli quest called: Retest Now.
Use your Diluted Cult Tonic on you, so you get your Tainted Essence, for the improved quest.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't this quest and the other dailies this NPC gives, along with the ones from the goblin nearby, provide Warsong Offensive rep? I remember doing the dailies a bit a while back, I thought all of them gave rep. But I went to hand in a couple yesterday and I didn't get any. Am I mistaken?
