Each cauldron will give you a 2 hour buff when you toss the Writhing Mass into it.

Blue: Attack Power
Green: Stamina
Dark: Spell Power

Well, I got 60 spellpower from the dark (purple) cauldron.

Used the "Dark" cauldron and received a 100 attack power buff, as a level 80 Death Knight.

STEP 1: Go to 49, 33 and drink the Diluted Cult Tonic. You will gain a buff called Dark Discernment.

STEP 2: Kill any mobs in the area and loot Tainted Essence x10

STEP 3: Once ten are collected combine them to make a Writhing Mass.

STEP 4: Toss the writhing mass into any of the three cauldrons. Each one will give a unique 2 hour buff (Spell, Attk, or Stam) as an added bonus.

Quest Complete.

Buffs last only in Icecrown.

Agony of the Fallen Cultist, which comes from the blue cauldron

Blood of the Fallen Cultist, which comes from the green cauldron

Fury of the Fallen Cultist, which comes from the dark grayish cauldron

one other thing, by waiting to deposit the Writhing Mass until i had both one Writhing Mass and 10 Tainted Essence in my bags, i was able to get both the stam and the spellpower buffs at the same time.

and, once you have the quest registered as completed (as in listed as complete in the quest log), won't let you collect any more Tainted Essence for the day.

Can anyone confirm if this quest is still available? I went to where the questgiver was prepatch and he's not there. I spoke to a few players in Icecrown and they couldn't find him either.
Any help? Thanks.

If you plan on using the buffs you gain from this daily quest in raids or a heroic instance or alike, know that it doesn't work. As soon as you leave Icecrown, you lose the buff(s) you gained from the cauldrons, sadly.

Once you put this macro in your action bar, it serves 3 purposes:
- it shows how many essences you have looted so far
- once you got 10 the icon brightens up and is ready to use by clicking it, thus creating the Writhing Mass
- holding down allows to toss it into your favorite cauldron.
