I'm afraid you made a mistake. In order to calculate a hunters Damage Per Second from Attack Power, you must divide by 14 to be exact, as 14 Attack Power equals one DPS point.

As the formula stands, with 5,000 AP you would only do 1290 damage. With it costing more than arcane shot, it is very mana inefficient.

This is only recommended for MM hunters with improved sting and refresh it with chimera shot. Other hunter specs are better off using scorpid sting.

lets say I meet a rogue, and Marks him and put Serpent Sting on him, he cannot hide from me right?
can anyone tell me what is the possible outcome in a situation like this? (yes I hate rogue)

Just to be clear(er):

As you can see, Serpent Sting uses the Ranged Attack Power of its user to calculate its damage over time. The apply aura effect means it will calculate the damage every time you shoot the sting. MM Hunters should be aware that their Chimera Shot will keep refreshing the debuff, but it will never recalculate the damage. You must reapply the sting manually if you want get a new DoT calculation.

With this said, never shoot Serpent Sting while in Aspect of the Viper mode, it will halve your Serpent Sting dps and your Chimera Shot's Serpent Sting triggered effect dps. You may, however, shoot the sting first, then change the aspect, for no loss of DoT.

The contrary is also true, reapply the Serpent Sting whenever you receive buffs that increase your Ranged Attack Power like raw AP buffs or Agility. This is most common when your trinket procs, for example Death's Choice/Death's Verdict Paragon 450-510 agility buff.

As long you keep shooting Chimera Shot, and don't ever reapply Serpent Sting after its max buff, the debuff will keep its much increased DoT until the end of the fight, not to mention the 40% damage from the Chimera Shot. This is the major Hunter "secret" you should keep in mind.

In other words along with using Improved Stings and Glyph of Serpent Sting, stack Kings, Battle Shout/Might, Trueshot Aura, Strength of Earth/Horn of Winter, Gift of the Wild, Arcane Brilliance, your wolf's Furious Howl, all your food, flask and scroll stats increasing buffs, wait for the huge procs, and do massive damage.

Many extra points if you are using 2 pieces of T9.

Obviously this is the hunter's DOT. It should be used everytime you're training or fighting, unless you're planning on using an effect that is canceled with damage(EX: Freeze trap) or you're using another sting. Only one sting per hunter also...

Use it as soon as u c a rogue and then mark the rogue. After that the rogue has to fight or sprint to others to save their ass cuz vanish wont save u with this move.

Fight or sprint to others to save a rogues ass because they can't vanish? I can't say the only reason I can whack hunters all day long is due to vanish! You let a rogue get near a hunter for more than 5 seconds and that hunter is pawned for sure marked or not.

This shot should definitely be in your shot rotation. I have not leveled my hunter to 70 yet, but I am within 5 levels (Morsana, Silver Hand) and I use this in PVE and PVP.

The only situations not to use this in would be if you are attempting to freeze a mob, as that will break the trap (also make sure all pet poisons are off).

With patch 2.3 this gets a damage bonus from your attack power, and MM talent tree has another damage increase for this shot.
