Sort of an annoying quest. Entrance to the vault area for this quest is about 51.9, 32.9. You gather the pieces of his remains from crates around the room, but they all have a 2 minute duration. Clear the room first, then loot the pieces. They form a quest item that does not have a duration.

Alumeth himself is substantially more difficult than most of the other group quests in Icecrown. Immune to snares and stuns, melees cloth for 4.8k, mind flays for 3k, shadow word: pains for over 1k, fears, heals, and mind controls.

Bring a tank and some healing, you'll need it.

Very annoying quest, especially with mana users.

Entrance is at 52, 33. The Crystal Altar you summon Alumeth is at the middle back of the vault at 51, 27.

You have 2 minutes to get the four pieces and then combine them or they despawn from your inventory. They are soul bound and must be gathered by one person. Once made, Alumeth's Remains stay in your inventory until he is summoned.

As you enter the vault area, the Heart is in a chest at the front end of the table on your right, the Scepter is in a chest at the other end of that table on your right, and the Robes are in a chest against the back wall to the right of the Altar. The Skull is in a chest against the left middle wall.

You do not have to clear the entire room. Clear enough to get to the four chests first and only then gather them. The Cult Researchers cast Mind Blast that does an aoe knockback and shadow damage, and Wail of Souls that does about 20% mana burn per hit over a several seconds (you can easily go OOM).

Alumeth is a level 81 elite with about 260k hp. He melees, casts Mind Flay for about 3k damage per tic over 5 seconds, and Dominate Mind (psychic fear) randomly.

This guy is a shadow priest. And like it was said above he does heal. but it gets substantially worse sub 30%. Tried to down him with a prot pally and holy pally duo, but once we hit 30% he enraged and started casting much faster causing his healing to output our dps.

This is available prior to level 80. I can confirm availability at 79.
Alumeth also casts Mind Control. Bring a dispel... or two.

Beware with a Warlock in the party

Immediately after our Warlock got Mind Controlled, we got a Howl of Terror into the Researchers. That ended badly.

This is probably an issue that can be had with a Priest and Psychic Scream as well. A Shaman with Tremor totem would help in these cases.

tried soloing as a blood DK in tank gear and frost presence, blue quest and a few rep + normal dungeon drops.

got him to 30 % or so but then i died, saw it early on i wasn't going to make it. was just hoping i could burst him down but failed.

used runesword + army of dead for the super zombie army, that's the burst i was hoping would do, he wasted a lot of stuff on them, renews got a few ticks in for him because of me being overeager and not saving an unholy rune for the plaguestrike.

overall it was a fun challenge but as of now, i dont see myself doing it without some massive upgrade in gear.

totally duoable with say a shaman with tremor totem and heals.

2 manned today with a Blood DK and a shadow priest in holy gear. Doesn't seem to MC if there are only two people, which is nice. I threw my shadowfiend towards the end, and he tried to MC the fiend.. So it looks like when there is a third entity he starts to MC.

Just a heads up others that tend to duo.

I decided to give this a try. Almost 30 minutes later I came out victorious. Holy paladin using 2 lay on hands 4 bubbles 1 avenging wrath and a lot of divine pleas.

I have gear from Naxx but it is probably doable at lower gearlevels if you have the patience and don't make any mistakes. I was specced in prot instead of retri but I think that going down retri instead will be better for soloing this because of more crits and cheapers heals.

Alumeth must have been nerfed.
I did this in 3 man group and he went down in like 20 seconds.
Cant recall exact hp ,but it was something around 80k.
Propably soloable now.

As of 3.08, he now has 104k HP. Mindflay ticks for about 1500 instead of 3k.

I was barely able to solo him as a Naxx25 geared feral Druid. Things I learned that helped:

He spawns right after you use his remains. However, if you stealth as soon as you're done channeling, you can get your opener.
He is susceptible to stuns, immune to Maim. Pounce and get some good bleed damage going, then switch into Bear.
Save Berserk for a fear. You could wear a PVP trinket to break two, but I just ate the second.
Use Bash on his first Mind Flay, Barkskin on the second.

Solo'd as a 80 Blood DK. I threw down Army of Dead, raised by ghoul and put up Horn of Winter before I summoned him. I filled my rune power and finished him quickly with Dancing Rune Weapon while the ghouls still had the aggro.

Solo'd very easily as a Naxx25 geared prot pally. Took a bit of time, used LOH though honestly I could have gotten away with NOT using it if I wanted. Only annoying bit is the Renew. Just use shadow aura and go to town on him, his melee is weak and probably won't hit you much. Cleanse his Shadow Word Pain as soon as it goes up and he's a joke.

I still recommend bringing a DPS to speed it up, but really not necessary.

Just 3-manned with Ret Pally (myself), Rogue & Prot Warrior.
Went down in less than 30 sec, totally not like the other 5 mans in icecrown! lol
I probably could have soloed him without any trouble at all.

Soloed as a Blood DK, very easy. Pop army of the dead, summon the guy, then beat till dead.

The 2 minutes duration on the various parts you need to combine seems to have been removed.
Even though the tooltip still says that the parts begin to "deteriorate" or w/e, I've been having the skull in my inventory for approximately 10 minutes now and it's still there.
So now it's easier to do this quest without getting frustrated because some of the parts disappear while you're running around and killing mobs/collecting the other parts.

Wanted to solo on my lock. Cleared the room and then ran around and looted the boxes for body parts. Made

Note: Once you combine the body parts, you can loot again (or have another party member loot them). Multiple tries is helpful. is consumed when you summon the boss.
I gave it one try, died and when I rezzed just combined the body parts in my inventory.

I'm afraid I waited too long and there were respawns when I started the boss encounter. He feared my felguard into the mobs and that was all she wrote.
I'll try again soon, this time I'll full clear the room first. :)

I just solo'd this as a fury warrior in tanking gear 1st try (although it was very close). I had about 30k hp unbuffed full naxx tanking gear. The thing about soloing him is that if you time it properly you can make him do a LOT of damage to himself. He casts mind-flay at fairly regular intervals. With a normal shadow priest (a player) spell reflect only reflects a single tick...on Alumeth it reflects the entire flay. You'll see it work if you notice he is shooting himself in the face with the beam. Spell reflecting the SWP is also a good source of damage but reflecting mind flays is much more reliable. Keep using BT on cooldown, shield slam, keep sunders up and TC/Demo of course, use any CDs necessary. The fight was close for me but going into the fight I didn't realize this about mind flay, so going in with that knowledge it should be doable with lesser gear.

Soloed him as an enhancement shaman, not much trouble. just tremor totem, Feral spirit, and a purge for when he renews.

Soloed him as a retadin in mostly ToC normal/hc epics without too much hassle only bubled once cuz i slacked healing, dispel his dot and interupt the mindflay wich dose a good bit of burst dmg but nothing too deadly just trow a HL after one and ull be fine. Should be soloable even with lower gear just takes longer and more atention, keep SS up and Flash on Art of War to keep ur health up.

Soloed with a lvl 80 demo lock fel guard tanking it just dot and HF/DL back and forth and keep dots up if u pull aggro pop soul shatter and slow up on DPS last to spells i got him with was incinerate soulfire all in all easy

Soloed as a shadow priest with +-219 lvl gear. With all buffs on (including very usefull shadow protection) it wasn't hard to kill him. Just dispell his dots on you and don't forget to use Vampiric Embrace so you get enough healing.

It is not really hard, just mind your cooldowns... they can come in handy! Good luck...

I couldn't solo this guy as a Destruction specced warlock (0/13/58, raidgeared), so I switched to my PVP spec (0/17/54) for Soul Link and Nether Protection, worked like a charm. Had to blow healthstone as well as a health pot. I found out that running away while he was casting Mind Flay and then stunning him after to get some extra nukes in worked perfectly.

Soloed as elemental shaman with ilvl 200 gear. He hits quite hard so alternated between flame shock + lava burst and healing wave. Kept tremor up to avoid fears and purged him when he does renew.

Thunderstorm can help interrupt his mind flay and get some breathing room. Popped bloodlust at 40%.

Solo'd as a 80 DK with few pieces of raiding T9 and around iLvl 200 gear.

First thing I did was pop Army of the Dead and got him down to about 15,000 life before the entire army had died. Popped Mark of Blood ASAP for the quick heals and tried to keep my anti-magic shell up while he was mind flaying, also remember that interrupt spells don't work against him.

And watch his DoT's, he got me right at the end (I had 3k life left when I killed him and anti-magic shell was on CD, killed me with his dots that tick around 1k.)

Mind Flay hits for 1500 per second, btw.

as a DK ( blood dps specced ) with tanking gear ~35K Unbuffed it was very easy, just pop your army just pop hysteria while your army is up then spam death strike when you get aggro and (s)he will be down in no time,

btw it was full T6 priest set right ? :P

Very easilly soloable as a Level 80 Discipline Priest in mostly 232/245 PvE healer gear. No consumables used. Didn't even bother to pop trinkets. Only two real tips is to use Fear Ward and to dispel offensively when he does a renew on himself.

Shouldn't pose much of a problem even for a priest who isn't very geared yet. Picking up some Fate Runes might be a good idea if you're less geared. :-) I did have to heal myself quite a bit though, but weaving in some damage dealing and some DoTs wasn't too hard.

A full 5-man party for this is definitely overkill.

Easily solo'd as a BM hunter in T9. The mind flay thing he hit my bear pretty hard, but mend pet offset that enough that I was able to DPS him down before my bear died. Bear was at 25% or so health when we beat him.

The other tricky bit for hunters trying to solo this is the mind control or fear or whatever it is. My bear came very close to running into some of those mages, which could have been a real mess. Clear the mages near the crystal before starting (if they've respawned) and try to fight him there.

Solo'd as an 80 Ret Pally. Half t9, half ilvl 200 or less gear. Put on Kings, and Seal of Light, and used every Art of War to drop Flash of Light. No stuns, only popped Divine Shield. No fear. Perhaps they have nerfed him even further. Art of War and Seal of Light was plenty to heal through his melee, it was the Mind Flay which had me hardcasting the Flash of Lights without AoW. All in all, pretty easy. Never fell below 35-40%

This is another @#$%ing bull@#$% quest. &*!@ty cultists who just immune everything. Then you get this annoying boss down to like 1% hp, die and you have to do it all over again because you lose the summoning mats. What utter bull!@#$.
