It has to be a fresh kill as it seems. I killed a Voidy and started chatting in guild but I couldn't siphon it later. Unless this is a bug :P

Kill Void walkers around 56.1 30.0 and use the rod of siphoning on the dead void walkers.
Once you have collected 5 go to the summoning stone at 54 34 .

For those of you desperately wondering "Where are the mobs for this Dark Matter?", the answer is "Not near the stone." The mobs whose Dark Matter you steal are called Enslaved Minions. They follow around Void Summoners.

If you're at the stone, and facing north, go to the right and you'll see a flight of stairs. Go up them, you'll find some Summoners and Minions there. Go up the next flight of stairs to find a few more.

Make sure you siphon the voidwalkers before you loot them.

As JamesThePaladin said, make sure you siphon before looting, or else the channel wont work, happened to me for a bit before i realized what was causing it.

Possible fixed at 3.0.9? I just did it, and looted the first one without thinking (it's like flushing the toilet), and I could still siphon.

Other players can kill Enslaved Minions that you have tapped, and siphon them, OR can even siphon a Minion you have totally killed, thus getting credit for your effort. Be very very careful about who is around you *cough*Horde*cough* while you are killing.

I'm getting a bug. I got 2 essence, now when I use the rod I get put in combat until the rod comes off of CD.

Apparently there IS a bug.

The rod will work if you are in combat just as long as they are frozen. After I took a summoner and minion down another summoner and minion attacked me. I just hit Hungering Cold and was able to get use the rod on the first one and then I turned my attention to the new pair.

Yeh i also get the same bug where you use the rod and it begins to siphon then puts you into combat and cancels it, then you leave combat when the rod has finished its GC of 4 Seconds.

With all of the aforementioned problems with the quest, I think it's interesting that the quest name is "Not a Bug"

if you can charge/grab enemys to come to you while killing the summoner, ALWAYS pull/charge the caster either way the minion will always come to you so just hurt the caster first

A word of warning to hunters, warlocks and deathknights (and any class with a summonable pet who might want to use it).

If your pet gets the killing blow on the Minion, you will NOT be able to use the quest item on its corpse. Best to set your pet on the void summoner, while you focus on killing the Minion first, luckily they're very squishy and I (as a hunter) was able to kill the Minion before he got into melee range.

I can't ever get this stupid quest to work right. About half the time I go to siphon the bets and it don't do anything.

Will do it once for the armor but screw doign this every day since it still don't work right.

Around 55/30, in the northeastern part of Aldur'thar: The Desolation Gate you'll find Void Summoners and their Enslaved Minions. Use the Rod of Siphoning on the Corpses of the minions to collect 5 Dark Matter. Then go to 53/33, directly at the northern end of the bridge/gate, where you find the Summoning Stone. Interact with it and the Dark Messenger will spawn. Quest completed.

Weird combat bugs around this area which don't let you leave combat.

Edit: Had to exit game and return for combat to end.

Alright, <friend/missy>, time to plant a bug.

Relax, it's not a bug exactly, but it'll serve our purposes.

In the northern portion of Aldur'thar the cult's void summoners enslave demonic minions. Use this rod to siphon the dark matter from the corpses of these enslaved minions, and then use their summoning crystal to bring our little spy into being.

Until it is discovered, the messenger will serve as our eyes and ears, discreetly observing the actions of our enemy.
