Incredibly stupid if you don't have range, there are a few low flying gryphon riders hanging out low to the ground, but if a high flying one aggros you he'll just sit there and lob spears at you.

It is untrue that this quest is alliance only, I just completed it as horde, and it unlocked a daily quest.
Just don't forget to actually click the icon to turn in the gryphon.

Also if you mount and dismount numerous times, you'll have a GRIP of gryphons following you around till you log off.

Did you check your bag? If you still see no mount, abandon quest and grab another set of scarlet gryphon reigns to try again.

There is currently a slight bug with the quest item for this quest. You can click the item to mount the Gryphon, then ~~use a Dismount macro~~ just dismount and what happens is you leave the mount, but the actual NPC you were riding stays there. You can do this indefinately. I have uploaded a picture showing the results.

You will also notice I have an open ticket for this issue.

Edit: You don't need a macro to have 100+ Gryphons

I found one hovering right about a rock, i dismounted on top of the rock and was able to loot it. not a problem.

Super fun bug: this is a VEHICLE not a mount.. so you can use it indoors as long as you are in Icecrown.

You can mount the captured gryphon while swimming too.

I agroed a pat and 2 other mobs so i jumped in the water and swam away and was able to use the item in my inventory to mount instead of swimming back to the island and looking for a place to mount my regular gryphon.

When you dismount off of the gryphon, it stays by your side. So if you repeatedly mount and dismount the Onslaught Gryphon, you can gather as many as you want. This can be fun when you have about 50 gryphons following you :)

On a more serious note, if you don't have an epic flying mount, it would be advisable not to turn this quest in. Instead, keep the gryphon. Not only does it moves at 100% speed (as opposed to 60% non-epic flyer), but you can't get knocked off, you can fly indoors, damage is done to the bird instead of yourself, you get a nice parachute if you jump off, and to top it off the cast time is about half that of a normal mount.

OK i think i go anbandone this quest because i try kill one and come tree or 4 to kill me and i killed about 30 of them and dont have the gryphon but if someon want try is have more luck coords are around 8,44 AND VERY GOOD LUCK

Is the follow-up to this quest the daily, or am I missing a normal quest somewhere?

Edit: Okay, I looked around more and after you do this quest, if you haven't already gotten some kind of letter from the chests from one of the dailys, that letter is what leads to the next non-daily after this quest.

If you are grouped (or multi-boxing) only one character needs to loot the reins.
When you all fly back to Death's Rise, that character summons the mount and clicks the "Deliver" special ability while mounted next to Uzo. This will complete the quest for everybody, so all can see the yellow "?" above Uzo and turn in the quest.

Be aware: If you make a large army of the Gryphons (<---really fun) using the loophole, it will make combat REALLY difficult and there's no real way to dismiss them except by logging off.

Yeah this quest pretty much blows guys.

The best thing i found to do being a Death Knight was to 12.1, 44.7.
There is a taller rock with one of the gryphon riders on it facing the water/ocean.

Fly as close to the back rock as you can and just land right behind him asap or he'll hit you and you'll be dismounted. One you land on the rock you should be fine.

The ideal spot for melee players seems to be the tall pillars around 9,43. You can land on them and fight the Gryphon Riders quite comfortably in melee range, although you're likely to aggro a few more than you need as they fly nearby. Luckily, they swoop down and you can fight those in melee range, too.

The reins are in your inventory. You do NOT have to go to the harbor and kill one, but you do have to go to the harbor, find a safe spot to land and then use the reins from your inventory. Fly back to Uzo and then use the 'Deliver' key to finish this quest.

Very easy quest. you collect it from Uzo Deathcaller at Death's rise.

Just go to onslaught harbor kill a gryphon rider and loot the corpse.

You wil get the gryphon, just summon it like a normal mount.

Fly back to Death's rise and push the number 1 button to "Deliver Gryphon"

So quest is very easy, kill any of the gryfon, and they will drop the grifon like a items in your inventory, so u have to take the grifon by your inventory, after have killed on of it

Whats the problem, totaly easy quest. 3 minuts start to finish, just aggro one and it will follow u down, and u can use melee weapons.

I got the gryphon and went to complete the quests from Darkrider Arly and was able to enter the Sanctum of Reanimation and not dismount. Lot quicker to do the quests in here plus the speed boost is nice too.

Advised to not turn this quest in since you can use the gryphon repeatedly. It moves at 100% mount speed so if you're like myself and only have a reg mount atm, this is very useful for questing in Icecrown. PLUS it is usable indoors!

Alll you need to do is just get it from the gryphon riders in onslaught harbor and ride it to Uzo but you can mount/dismount and the birds will follow you STALKERS!

You don't even need to be on the griffin to get credit for a kill. I had dismounted for some reason, was attacked by a rider and killed him. ding credit for quest kill.

Is the quest bugged? I have the Onslaught Gryphon Reins, I flew it back and I'm right on top of Uzo Deathcaller and I can't turn it in. Is this a new issue? I can dismount and talk to him but i can't do anything else. Grrr!

I flew to the middle of the island area and saw a number of these flyers (hovered my curser over them). So I did the smart thing which was to see which one was near a mountain or vertical peak that I could land upon and get his attention. I landed, he came forward, and I killed him and got the reigns right away. However 2 of his friends soon arrived and so I ended up killing 2 more and looted them, but no more reigns.

Other posters were correct that his mounts is not as fast as the epic mounts (did this as a level 80 for the Loremaster Achievement). Furthermore, as a Shadow Priest, it did not change color like most of my mounts do.

Finally, you need to be right up to the troll, Uzo (standing next to the next where a baby skeleton flyer is hovering - not too far from the original quest giver). I clicked on him, clicked on "deliver" and it was all done.

Return with the gryphon, delivering it to Uzo Deathcaller. He will see to its proper transformation and provide you with further instructions.
