Solo'd as a 78 Unholy DK, but it took about 15 Guardians to get the Unblemished Heart and they are very difficult to solo in this build. I was able to kill them each time, but I usually ended up in ghoul form before they went down. The Wardens are MUCH easier since they can be diseased. Only took 2 Wardens to get the Essence.

Solo'd as a 78 Hunter, just put mend pet and misdirection on my pet and blasted away. Had to feign death once during each fight, otherwise no issue.

This quest can be soloed also as decent gear prot warriors, all the 2 kind of mobs can be stunned and deal full melee damage, dunno if they can be snared, but i suppose so (so gogo frostmages!)

The Altar Warden does full melee damage and a knockback, shield slam his haste effect and they're dead in a second

The Guardian of Zim'Rhuk does also full melee damage but they HEX (dealing 2500 MELEE damage on ability) you sometimes, this is not a spell, but a melee attack that can be missed/dodge/parried, so don't even bother spellreflecting... you can't avoid damage when hexed, so those mobs will be tougher than the Wardens

said that, i could kill 2x Guardians before eating, had not to eat at all with the Wardens, after 3 kills got the questitem

Both quest mobs are snareable.
Easily soloed by a frost mage. The Altar Wardens are buffed with Whirling Winds, quite a fun buff to Spellsteal which makes it even easier.

Soloable as a holy priest, however the quest item is not 100% drop rate; it took 6 Altar Wardens to get the Gusty Essence. The Altar Wardens walk very slowly, any caster should be able to solo them. The Zim'Rhuk Guardians are harder, they will hex you into a frog for 2-3 seconds, if you cannot heal yourself, you'd probably want to get some help with them.

Make sure you get the blessings from Drakkari Offerings, at this point in questing, you should have plenty extra.

solo'd as 75 affliction warlock. The guardians are not hard,kite them but have trinket ready for the hex.they are immune to drain-sihpon life so u need to be extra carefull and keep distance.i died one time because of that.
the wardens are very easy,same tactic but u have nothing to worry about.kite and tank drain life if necessary.

Enhancement shaman, you can do it without totems, but they help a lot. Just keep wolves and SR for each one and you'll chew through them like cheese, no need for heroism. I was able to down two wardens before my wolves disappeared.

Warlock Tips / Advice:

Guardian of Zim'Rhuks are not fearable or drain lifeable. However your Voidwalker should be able to tank it, if you watch threat.

Altar Wardens are fearable and are therefore a complete joke.

For shadowpriests,
Guardians are pretty hard, they hit like a truck, but are slow. Just kite them and keep dotted. The only problem is polymorph, just wait till it's gone, shield up and run away. Can't be feared.

Wardens are much easier, dots, mind blast and mind flay, if they are close just psychic scream and finish them.

Solod this quest as a lvl77 arms warrior and simply outdamaged them (be sure to have Sudden Death). The golems are a bit harder I think. I'm a warrior in mixed Season 2-4 gear with a De-Raged Waraxe as my main hand weapon. Items and abilities that helped through the fight were:

You have about 3 mins cooldown between each mob, but that's the price to do it alone. I died 2 times on the whole quest. Good luck to everyone.

Key tip for Spriests since we're so squishy (and anyone really): as you kite, spam left and right strafe back and forth as you run in a straight line. It creates inefficiencies with the mob's pathing, allowing you to gain distance on the mob... much more so than normal running.

Easily soloable by a 77 Prot Pally. I just used Seal of Light and Judgement of light. The stone guardians hit a bit tougher/hit harder as when they hex you it does around 2300 dmg but I didn't have to heal myself at all fighting either one.

Had to drink/eat in between mobs and use Divine Plea while fighting or I would be OOM.

reminder for boomkins, guardian's are rootable, so pieces of cakes
but warden is immune to nature spells,therefore no wraths, roots, typhoons
my way to kill them is SF->MF->treants attacking them, keep moving to max. range then SF ag, use MF whenever dot is gone
if there is no other mobs, u can also use starfall, stun can be applied to them

Soloed as a Fury War @ 78 with blessing of Zim'Torga 3k ap 16.8k hp. Just pop recklessness and get a good Deep Wounds tick going and then in need of health I used Lifeblood and Enraged Regeneration. If you need more health a Runic Potion is always useful.

Edit: Wardens don't hit nearly as hard and didn't have to wait for CD's

Yes, it is soloable with class with , though it's way faster to do with a partner. I myself as a frostmage did it with a feral druid. Quick, and I got no damage in any of the fights.

Oh, if you can't find Har'koa from the ruins, try Zim'Torga, at least I found him there.

I just solo'ed this easy as a 77 arcane mage. You can slow and snare both the guardians and the wardens making it easier for a frost mage. You can kite the guardians pretty easy and it seems like the wardens are slow to begin with, that once you put a slow on them by the time they get to you they are probably almost dead. Be careful with the wardens, like another post says, if a scion is close they will enter battle too. The wardens are also a bit easier for mages since you can spellsteal the +movement +cast speed buff from them.

Had S2 chest/Helm/Sword and a mix of quest reward blues/greens.
Tips:

-Energy Management is very key here, so don't be silly and use consecration!
-Use Seal of Command instead of Seal of Martyr/Blood.
-He is immune to stuns, so don't bother with Hammer of Justice.
-At around 85k-87k health he will stun you, so before he reaches that I suggest casting Divine Plea.
-Fire Resistance Aura for sure.

Just remember to maintain your energy, and use Flash of Light when Art of War is up!

Soloed on my 79 frost mage.

Guardians are just a smidge tougher because they cast a polymorph-whammy spell that lasts a few seconds. Just long enough for him to catch up to me. Focus on frost nova and slowing spells. Item dropped after 3 or 4 mobs. Guardians hit pretty hard.. 4K+ on cloth. Yow. (I accidentally aggroed a second guardian and my pet was dead... it didn't end well that round. haha)

Frost mages with the elemental pet will have an easier time since it's a second frost nova and dps.
Fire mages can *probably* do this but it will be much tougher. I know my fire mage can't solo elites at all. Just frost nova and kite - but be careful, guardians are all over the place.
Arcane mages pretty much kick butt all around, so do your thing. Slowing spells and spank... not much else to it for ya.

The wardens are easy as heck, anyone with slowing/kiting cabilities can do them. Item dropped after 4 or 5 mobs. Just avoid the scions... if you focus on the wardens on the outside walls, you should be safe.

As someone mentioned above, spell steal from the warden. Nice buff.

Soloed as a 76 BM Hunter. kept my distance using all my cool-downs and occasionally healing my pet, wasn't really a problem but it would be easier and quicker to 2-3 man the quest.

Also, make sure you clear the mobs surrounding the area as you can pull aggro.

Altar Wardens are Melee Only. Stay out of range and they can be taken down by any ranged class eazily.

Solod easily as a 77 BM Hunter with a gorilla. Misdirect your gorilla, send him in, cast mend pet right as the fight begins, go through your rotation and use intimidate so you don't pull aggro. All you have to do is keep mend pet up and they'll die pretty easily. Feign Death if you pull aggro, cause they DO definitely hit hard.

Had to kill 3 guardians, and 4 wardens.

This Quest is easily soloed as a Hunter, Both the guardians and altar wardens are slow so their easily kited. also there not immune to Concussive Shot or Wing Clip, just in case they do get to close. Make sure you have a lot of aggro on them so your pet doesn't start tanking they hit hard and your pet can only survive a few of the hits.

As a shadowpriest 77 with ZA/t4 and some new quest rewards i had no problems with guardians, just fear them one time and they die fast.
I had very much problem to find a tactic to solo the wardens cause i tried earley in the morning and hard to find a group:(
So the best way to kill them is start at maximun range (shadow reach talent could help) and pop up shield waiting till weakened soul finish his cooldown. Then cast as always Vamp touch and embrace, SW: Pain while running back (no dev plague they are immune to disease) and mind flay to kite him a bit. If u are lucky u are able to cast also mind blast before u become polymorphed and mob is at 50% of his HP. So u have just to pop up shield renew and 2 or 3 flash heal and try to apply constantly on the warden your dots and shadowfiend too. It works and i finish fight with 1-2k HP (i have 13k HP total and 4,6k armour) and also have to wait the cd of shadowfiend so i dont recommend at all to soloing this quest: i died twice and have to kill 4 mobs to loot.

I just solo'd the elites for this quest as a level 78 combat specced rogue with decent gear, when I didn't have cooldowns up I kited the mobs with crippling poison, deadly throw and throw until kidney shot was up again. The Alter Wardens was even easier than the Guardian of Zim'Rhuk's because those could be gouged/blinded. :)

Totally soloable as Unholy DK, they never got me past 30% hp, no need to kite any of the mobs, used when possible and if got hexed or made the minion tank it meanwhile.
Also :ed before battles.
No need for potions or anything except bandage after fight.
Drop rates are kinda low.

Feral Druid Tips:

I am 79 feral druid and I haven't gotten under 50% health (22.1k health pool) fighting either the wardens or the guardians.

The Altar Wardens are immune to: Fairie Fire, Infected Wounds, Thorns. So just keep that in mind. Barkskin + hots + back to bear for works if you really need it but you probably won't. Good luck!

Solo as a 77 unholy DK

Guardians - they are level 76 and 77 elites. I started with a 77 got agro, built up rp summoned gargoyle and took it down. They dont hit that hard if in decent green and blue armor, however they do have a crit that can hurt. Can be painful to miss a Death Strike. Was usualy at half health at end of each fight with the 77 elites. The 76 elites I would do after doing a 77, while I was waiting on the gargoyles cooldown. The 76 elites did not require the gargoyle to help take down fast. It did require a bandaid between each fight. I was unlucky on the drop rate, I had to kill 12 of them before it dropped.They have an ability that transforms you into a small little frog or something, that was a pain.

Wardens - I only saw 77 elites. They did more damage then the Guardians, so after killing the first one I waited for gargoyle cooldown to finish. The knockback realy wasnt a problem. I didnt need any pots, but had them at the ready. Got luckier on the drop rate with the Wardens, it dropped on the second one.

Neither the Guardians or Wardens seem to have as many hitpoints as other elites of the same level, but they can crit for comprable with other elites. You can take them down fairly fast.

Solo'ed as lvl 79 unholy dps DK in all quest gear. Stayed in blood presence and just kept spamming Death Strike when ready. Waited to attack each one till health was above 95% and bone shield was available.

Note that the warden guys occasionally will turn you into a frog, and if there's nothing else to beat on, they'll beat on you while frogged (which in my case meant the pet ghoul took a bad beating). Took about 6 of each one to get the items.

Not too bad to solo, but having to be up in their face definitely makes it a bit harder to stay alive. Ended up with 40-50% hp on most the fights.

Did the quest solo as a just turned 80 affliction warlock. The Guardians were trouble. After a few deaths I found a way that seemed to work for me. Note while siphon life and drain life wont work on him, haunt will still heal you.

What I did was make use of our new spell Demonic Circle:Summon. Id scout for a Guardian where I had plenty of room, usually on the perimiter of the area.. and Id drop a circle. Once my circle was down, Id go NW of my circle in relation to where the Guardian was. Then Id pop trinkets cast Shadowbolt, then Haunt, then UA at max range, as he's runing Id run passed him to where he was originally standing while casting Corruption and CoA, usually at this time he would hex me as I had agro, and then he'd go to my pet. Once I got out of hex Id be where he was originally standing and he'd turn back to me, Id use the summon circle and port away once he was close, then repeat casting shadowbolt, haunt ua etc. Here's a crude map so you can see how I did it.

Once in the middle ( guardians org. spot ) and the guardian is on you, port to your demonic circle and unload on him again.

Usually I found after my initial pull and loading him up on dots, as I was on my way to the center he would hex me as I had agro, and turn to my felhunter which was handy as it would buy me time coming out of hex as my pet would lag behind bitting him in the rear. It usually only took me the initial unloading during the pull, then a port and a second round of unloading dots on him and then he would die. My felhunter died nearly every pull tho but I only had to use a HS once. They move really slow so you can kite them fairly easy too and when they get too close just use your demonic portal to get distance again, JUST MAKE SURE YOU ARE WITHIN RANGE OF YOUR PORTAL!. They do hit hard, I was getting hit for about 2.2k using just fel armor and cloth gear @ lvl 80 but with 13k hp you can take a few slaps, the hex seems to do about 3-4k nature dmg at the end of its duration tho.

I had tried using the Void Walker tanking technique as mentioned earlier and it was pretty useless, a single corruption was taking agro away from the VW along with constantly healing him, not to mention he would hex the VW and run to me and the VW would have trouble getting back in time to retake agro..

Solo'd this quest as a level 76 Holy Paladin. No problems. I didn't even have to bubble up. Each one pretty much exhausted my mana, though, so I had to drink to replenish my mana between battles.
Notes: The Wardens are immune to the Gnomish Lightning Generator.
Don't get low on life before healing when you're fighting the Guardians, because they always turned my character into a frog the instant after I began the Holy Light spell. I just hopped around a few seconds, then began the spell again the instant my character became human again. They evidently have a timer for the polymorph, because the second attempt to heal always worked.
Had to kill 3 of each to get the quest items.

If you are a balance druid, the guardians are not immune to snares. The wardens, however, are immune to nature spells, but they move really slow so you can Starfire/Moonfire -> Cheetah -> Starfire again. It's annoying, but taking 1 hour to find someone to help you is even more annoying.

I just solo'd with Unholy DK in Frost Presence. - Attacked with my minion and kited w/ chains of ice, icy touch, death coil and blood boil, jumped in with death strike for healing. I died the first time because I ran him right into another Guardian (dumb). He annoyingly turns you into a toad occassionally. It took 4 kills to get the heart. After I died, I was OK for the next 3, anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 health left, but my minion died 3 out of the 4 attempts.

I used the same strategy with the Wardens, got the essence in 2 kills, and amazingly ended both fights with close to full health on me and my minion.

Gusty Essence seems to drop ONLY if you already have Unblemished Heart.
At least it did for me. I've smashed 7 Altar Wardens and got zero Essences. But as I got my Heart from ZimRhuk Guardians, Gusty Essence dropped from second Warden.
Wowhead lists Essence droprate 28%.

Pick up one of the troll area "buffs" that benefit your toon before doing this...I had the one that grants +245 ap.

I also only picked on 76 leets vs. the 77's in the area. Got the Unblemished Heart after 4 kills, and the Gutsy Essence after 3 kills.

Can be soloed as hunter. Mine was marksmanship lvl 78 at the time. Only greens and a couple of blue gear items.

Can use Frost Trap to aid, but really not necessary. I used Concussive all the time while kiting. Plus the harder-instant shots, like Arcane and Aimed. Then a finishing Kill shot. Took around 1 minute each kill. Pet never died.

Had to kill 4 Wardens for the drop. But only 1 Guardian.

Easily soloable as level 77 moonkin.

Guardians are rootable. My glyphed roots can absorb 6k dmg before breaking, that's 2 spells, so reapply roots often.

Wardens are immune to nature spells. So you can't root them. But also, they are very slow. You can get 3 starfires in before they come to melee range if you are lucky. They buff themselves with buff that increases their movement speed by 25%, and then they move at little less than 100% speed. Use travel form, reapply moonfire and do starfire or two when you get far enough. You can also use starfall, but be careful to not pull other mobs. Don't do treants before you've casted starfire, as they will pull aggro and die. And non aggroed treants will take 40% hp off the mob.

pretty easy to kill Guardian of Zim'Rhuk as a feral druid... dit it on lvl 76... bounced, 2x shred, mangle (cat) then switched to bear... couple of mangles and mauls.... then did a bash and healed self and back to bear... guess u know the rest... kept faerie fire and demolizeing roar up all the time.... didnt use any trinkets or berserk...

now there is a different story with the Altar Warden... same gear, same as much busted up and etc..
altho i didnt heal myself any time and the fight was quick it was a lil bit harder than with the Guardian of Zim'Rhuk's... used all my trinkets and berserk, its immune to faerie fire so dont try... altho can b stunned... it does pretty much dmg so b careful... im not gonna post the tecnique here cause it dont matter how u do it aslong as u do as much dmg as quick as possible.. and if ur getting low on hp just pop into travel form and run... the warden is pretty slow..

This can be soloed as a 80 Shadowpriest. They are immune to fear, but not to the Mind Flay snare. I recommend at least 1600+ spellpower and 250+ haste. Shield, VT+VE, MB, sw:p, flay, flay, MB, repeat except for VE. You should be able to bring them down within 2 rotations, if not you may be in trouble.

I'd be wary attempting this at anything lower than 78. One resisted/missed spell is all it can take to break you.

Decently geared 80 mutilate rogue. Half blues half epics. A bit of a chore to take down the stone guardians, but pretty easily doable, just follow up with a bandage afterwards. The wardens are probably soloable as well, but from my experience it seems like they have too many hp, and as for rogues, most fights like this come down to a race between who can kill who the fastest. It's more possible with evasion and perhaps using a pot, etc. You could use every trick in the book and not have a problem winning, but as for being able to consistently farm them to take them down until you get the drop, that might take some time.

EDIT: Not as bad as I originally anticipated. From my initial observation the wardens seemed much tougher, but I just took one down with minimal hp loss and the item dropped. Perhaps not as bad as I thought, but I'm not going to test to make sure =P

Warden

Very easy, got out with more then 50% Health & mana didnt even drink between fights.

Got the quest item on my third try, which makes its a 33% droprate i guess

Guardian - Immune to fear, Drain life, Siphon Life & any fear affects

This guy was MUCH harder. Usually I cut it real close with less then 500 health left. Died about five times.

I survived off of Haunt.

Use your Voidwalker, sacrificing him at the last second, because when he hexes you he will attack your Voidwalker reguardless of your threat.

Hits HARD 1500-2000 on me, a clothy

Pull him with a soul fire, then as hes running toward you do this:

Haunt --> Unstable Affliction --> Immolation --> Run back while casting instant dots(NOT SIPHON LIFE!) ---> Shadow bolt --> refresh your dots ---> Repeat(will probably need to healthstone/Sacrifice after refreshing dots)

I would not attempt this quest if you do not have haunt

Got the quest item on the seventh try... i really hope your alot luckier then i am...

After killing the same mob so many times i now believe that the fight is based upon the amount of shadow trances you get, you need at least 1 to win the fight.

This quest ended up not being worth my time however, i had alot of fun.

It may be immune to life draining mechanics or similar which makes them immune to devouring plague, but I'm 100% certain these mobs are not disease immune. I kill them quite often as a death knight as they're a decent source of eternal air.

The wardens are actually doable as a pretty badly geared 80 holy priest. I used Smite, Devouring Plague + SW:P for damage and feared + bubbled whenever possible, also a couple arcane torrents for extra stunnage and mana.

Guardians on the other hand..find a friend.

If you are a priest and trying this, don't waste mana casting Devouring Plague on the guardians, as they are immune to it.

If you are a disc priest, you can solo this. I just did it at 78. The Guardian's hex will interrupt your casting and destroy your shield, so you need to make sure you keep Prayer of Mending up at all times. Before starting the fight, cast a shield on yourself. Wait about 15 seconds and then pull so you'll be able to instantly refresh your shield when it gets knocked down. After your next shield is destroyed, use Pain Suppression and renew.

Your main method of damage will be Shadow Word: Pain. There might be time for some Holy Fire or Penance, but the primary thing is just to keep yourself alive while your dot does its job. Spam Flash heal while you wait for your shield timer to refresh. Remember to use your trinkets and Shadowfiend.

As a final note, be sure to get Blessing of Zim'Rhuk (91 mp5) and Blessing of Zim'Torga (10% to all stats) before you do this quest. They both stack.

Haven't seen anything as far as this goes for DK's but, it was easilly soloable as a 79 Unholy DK in DPS gear with Frost Pres. Just alternate Death Strike into your rotations in favor of SS and SS when your health is in the green. As always, remember the trinkets and IF. Easy enough to farm.

As to the drop rates- took a couple kills for the heart and about 5-9 for the other one.

Spriest here. Maybe I jt suck, but the guardians - forget it! Can't solo these guys as a clothie priest for the following:

You bubble, you move, and you get turned into a frog with no bubble and you get down to 20% health easy - you try to heal and bubble, but then another frog. I got 3-frogged in 30 seconds, and got killed several times.

I got help and finished it. The wardens, no problem. But that darn spell of being turned into a frog every 0 seconds really did me in.

When dealling with the guardian it's a little harder. just stand at max range and beggin to dot and mind blast , mind flay.
do as much dmg as possible before he comes near you, then you can start to dot and run and heal. use pvp trinket and healing potion if necessary. keep renew and prayer of mending , shield up as soon as it passed CD time. heal yourself! dont be afraid. you wont die if you heal soon enough and keep dots up.

Solo'd as a 75 DK, If u got Drakkari Offerings u should get the Might blessing. I made sure my bone shield was up all time, as the ghoul uses Gnaw (chew's off a limb and stuns tatget) i picked up all the DPS i could do. But good idea to have potions. Regarding drop rate, if you are lucky u will get it in first drop, normally will nto take more than 3-4 mobs like in my case.

Not too bad to solo as a an 80 Enhancement Shammy with fairly lousy gear. I died a few times, but that was more from attracting aggro from multiple things than being beaten to death by one of them.

I pretty much meleed the crap out of them using Stormstrike and Lavalash with earthshock thrown in everytime the cooldown was up, and a lightning bolt everytime maelstrom was full, and a shamanistic rage when my mana was low. I just threw down Strength of Earth, Windfury, Healing Stream, and Magma totem. Sometimes I'd send in my spirit wolves, but that wasn't wholly necessary.

The guardians dropped what I needed fairly quickly after a few kills, but the wardens took forever, probably 8 or 9 kills to drop what I needed.

The Guardians were about the same as long as the polymorph wasn't doubled up. Took 5 kills to get the heart. Wiped once on guardians due to polymorph one after another. The Guardians are without a doubt the most annoying mob I have ever encountered. Trying to take one of these down by myself as a Fury Warrior makes me want to destroy my furniture. Keeping my fingers crossed that I'll dodge a "Whammy".

If there's a tip I'd like to point out, it seems the mobs are divided into level 76 and 77s. The level 76 one has 1300-1400 less HP to deal with.

Poisons on each, buffed with +10 to stats.

Garrote, Trinket, sinister strike till full 5, evasion, killing spree, trinket, kidney shot, adrenaline rush, continue to spam sinister strike and eviscerate, worked well, only once lost more than half life, drops were within first 3 total.

Watch out for frog transformation with the Guardian, and Warden has knock back abilities.

In all, not that difficult compared to other group quests in area.

Level 80 Warlock (moderately geared)... I think this strategy will work for just about any warlock.

Basically, I attacked with my void walker. And kept a very modest level of dots on the targets.
Curse of Weakness, Corruption, and haunt in my case. Used a threat level meter. (Omen) The key is to never draw more threat then your void walker. I just kept health funneling my void walker whenever it's health got to about 3000. Health funnel draws a lot of agro, but if you don't dot too heavily your pet should generate more agro then you do. Just keep your pet alive and bleed them down slowly. Remember you can use Soul Shatter to lower your threat if necessary.

Level 77 Resto Shammy.

So far I've only killed the Guardians, but I find the best way to do it is Frost Shock kite him. Also, use Searing Totem, as it will either eat the Whammy, or he'll cast it on you and go to attack it. It's a pretty long fight with decent reg dungeon gear. Oh, and make sure to use Riptide if you ever get hit by a Whammy. You'll probably want to bring a mana pot just in case. Oh, and don't try to do this near any Frozen Earth. You'll most likely end up dying.

Ok, the Altar Wardens are really easy. Just Frost Shock kite them. Personally, I switched over to my main spec, Ele, for this so I could throw in a few Lava Burst while kiting.

This quest is perfectly doable, but by no means easy. You have to be careful and you need some proper gear.
I had to kill about 20 god damned guardians to get the heart. I died proprably about 10 times on them.
The Essence dropped on third kill. Never died on the wardens, nor was I ever near dying.
Both types of elites are very slow, so you could probably kite them, but I didn't.

If you're interested in some kind of hints...

When fightning guardians:
When you pull them and they are coming close, just push them back with thunderstorm, as it is quite possible they'll cast whammy as soon as they reach you, so you minimize the damage you take. Otherwise keep Fireshock up on them, smash with Lava Burst whenever ready, and be sure you keep yourself alive with adding Lesser Healing Waves to your cast rotation, try not to stay below 2k life, because an unfortunate critical hit from the guardian will kill you, as they hit ca. 1.0 - 1.2k dmg normal on my armor (12 k).
Whammy ( 2.5-2.7 k nature dmg) will also instakill you if you stay below that threshold.

If you pop Bloodlust you can kill two guardians one right after another with ease.
With good spelldamage and crit rate it is possible to kill a guardian with almost no health loss and without being whammied even once. But it does not happen to often,

And here's an important piece of advice: I died a few times on those trying to kill them faster by skipping a few lesser healing waves. Don't do it. It never worked the way I wanted.

When fightning wardens:
As said before, these guys are a joke, they deal about the same amount of melee damage as guardians, but they don't have anything near as powerful as whammy at their disposal, so you can basically slaughter them. They can only push you back from time to time with ~1.3k damage. Normal spell rotation with a few LHW here and there, and you're done.
As a matter of fact, I think the wardens are among the weakest elites to be dealt with... and soooo slow.

77 Frost Mage. For the wardens, start nuking at max range and spellsteal the buff when it casts it on itself. I'd be surprised if it even reached you, but if it does the movement speed buff you stole will get you back into safe range quickly.

Guardians require a little bit more pre-planning but are just as easy. Be ready for instant Hex, done at range, and that does a noteworthy amount of damage when it hits. Doesn't keep you hexed long, but it may be long enough for guardian to get into melee if you aren't at close to max range. I peppered it with ice lances, and fire blasts, while occasionally blinking, and casting a frostbolts when I could to keep movement speed debuff up. Keep ice barrier up to mitigate ranged damage and you're good. Happy Hunting

How to solo as a shadow priest:

I just did it at level 76. It just involves a certain strategy when pulling. First, you need to have cooldowns up on both Shadowfiend and Dispersion. Then, you start the pull with Shadowfiend at maximum range. Apply Vampiric Touch and SW: Pain. Throw on Vampiric Embrace while you can, then try to get off a Mind Blast before you pull aggro off Shadowfiend. When you do, Fade and start running towards the ramps to the southeast. With luck, Shadowfiend will keep aggro another few seconds.

The key here is to make it to this ramp. Refresh SW: Pain and/or Vampiric Embrace on the run, as you don't want it leashing. Keep your shield up and run a ways up the inner level of the ramp. Use Dispersion if you have to for the damage reduction. Once you're a good ways up the ramp, hop down one level. The Guardian will now have to path all the way down to the ground and all the way back up to you. Mind Flay it. This *should* be enough time for you to kill it. If it hexxes you and manages to catch up again, you can hop down to the ground and Mind Flay once more.

I died a few times trying normal kiting methods, but once I took advantage of this two-level ramp next to the stairs, I could kill Guardians without significant risk as long as I waited for Shadowfiend cooldown.

For the other part of the quest, the Altar Wardens are absolutely trivial. They move slowly, they're not immune to Devouring Plague like the guardians are, and they're not immune to fears. Even better, they helpfully hit you with a knockback that keeps them out of range more and lets you Mind Flay them from a distance more.

This quest is not even a threat to dks... i was lvl 77 when i did this solo, and i didnt go under 90% health with any mobs. use vamp blood and mark of blood. you get over healed with every attack.. and even without those two skills, a blood dk wont go under 50% health on these mobs even with no resting time between them. "Death Strike" and "Empowered Rune Weapon" FTW

For the Guardians:
A nice kiting circle is the broken down wall to the north of the stairs (on the southwest side of the ruins). Run through the "window" from above and the Guardian will have to run around a bit to get down to you. Run back around to the top and repeat. Or use Tresjin's kiting spot above (haven't tried it but looks good).

This made it easy for me as a shadow priest. Shield went down once or twice when I got hexed but kept DoTs up and he went down in a minute. If you use SW:Pain only and never stop to Vamp Embrace then you'll probably get hit even less.

I was able to solo at lvl 77 as a survival hunter using a ferocity pet (wolf). I ranged between 1400-1900 DPS as a benchmark. I have a few heirloom items and some blues. If you have less dps/gear your mileage may vary but these tips might still be useful. Here are a few tips:

1. Only take on 1 elite at a time if possible, scout out the area to make sure you'll have room without aggroing other mobs
2. Misdirect on your pet, and get some good heavy shots to start the fight to give your pet a chance at keeping aggro... i used black arrow and explosive shot.
3. Hot up your pet at fight start. If you do this your pet should live and keep tanking for you.
4. If you draw aggro, lay down your snake trap to add that extra dps.
5. Kill shot is your friend! Use it to finish the fight off before the mob gets to you if your pet dies or you have pulled aggro.

its easy for me to solo the Guardians as a ret pally with 14k hp buffed, throwing some heals in. what i dont like is the hex, deals 2000-3000 damage on impact. hit for 1000-1500 on plate armor (10200). Guardians have about 35,000 hp. -started casting a full heal at 50% of my hp. they hexed and 2 shots to the back killed me =(- so far i have 6 kills, 0 hearts. The Wardens have about 33,000 hp, hit for the same amount, dont hex, do a thunderstorm (knock back), fairly easy, 1kill 1essence.

-edit- 7th kill got me the heart. The cooldown on the hex (Whammy) is about 20 seconds.

The Guardians were the easiest to knock out. Start as a cat and use Pounce (they are stunnable - can also use Bash in bear form). The only worry there is the hex, which causes a large amount of damage and you lose control for a short time. But, I only got hit with it once out of my 4 or 5 kills. Go to bear form after you hit about 50% and the rest of the time just burn him down.

The Wardens are a bit tougher. They have an annoying knockback that they always use, and they seem to be a good bit stronger than the Guardians. But, they were still beatable.

Neither mob is immune to Faerie Fire or stuns.

Solo'ed as 77 combat rogue. Died on the first try by the Guardian but it was a breeze after I found a better rotation.

CS > SS > KS> Evasion > A.Rush > SS > SnD > SS the rest.

Easily soloed with an Unholy DK level 77 in Frost Presence. Guardians are harder because of that transformation they cast, but I killed 3 in a row...Death Strike was enough for hp...

I did this quest as a lvl 76 Paladin with tank spec.
Had mostly blue items gained from dungeons and crafted.
Only the polymorph made it a bit difficult. Keeping Divine plea up, and stun when you need to heal. This easily kept me alive and after 7 kills (and 28k xp rested) i got the drop.

I would seriously like to gut punch whoever created this quest! Its not to hard to solo but the drop rate sucks! It took 5 guardian kills before one dropped the quest item and after 7 kills, I have yet to see an quest drop from a Warden! Why why why would they send you to kill elites and not make the drop rate 100%?

Run same level as the Guardians. NOT immune to fear OR disease. Hit me for 1400-1700 (cloth/4400 ac) Gusty Essence dropped 1st kill ('bout time drop luck happened).

Additionally, once you step inside the temple area these will turn non-aggro so you don't have to worry about pulling a 2nd one by mistake.

As a healer druid, I couldn't stand and tank him. however, it took me a few minutes, but was easy. I nuked with moonfire... and ran as a kitty(travel from)... never got hit, just ran in a circle around a tree.

Took a couple of them though :-( and when he died a Scion attacked me.

Guardians run 76+ and 77+, 33-34k hp. Hit me in cloth (4.4k armor w/ Inner Fire) for 1500-2k a shot, occasionally hit me with "Whammy" - turns you into a frog and 'confuses' you for a couple seconds. They're immune to fear and disease. The biggest problem is figuring out what direction the game thinks you're facing after coming out of whammy - regardless of the direction you are looking, 3/4 of the time the mob was 'not in front of me' at the end of my 1st spell until I did a quick side-to-side shuffle.

Unblemished Heart dropped for me off 4th Guardian (2x 66+, 2x 67+).

If you have the zone buff that makes you neutral with the wardens, you have to click it off to make them hostile. The quest items will not drop if they are neutral to you.

I have killed a ton of the Altar Wardens near Harkoa but nothing is dropping. What am I doing wrong?

I hate being one of THOSE people that blab on about "easily soloable" but for once this information proved true.

I am a shadow priest in "questionable" gear lol.

The Alter Wardens died a lot easier than the other lot PLUS, the Alter Wardens were fearable.

The other ones, well they aren't fearable but they are a pain in the asphalt LOL as they keep hexing you into a frog but I did manage it. I was a bit puckered a few times but I did do it.

Mages can Spellsteal the Whirling Winds buff from the Wardens. Each buff has a 2 min duration and there's no stack limit. So after a few kills you basically have zero cast time and 100%+ movement speed increase.

You end up running at mount speed w/ perma bloodlust, and at 2.8k xp per kill these are amazing to grind on.

The gods have spoken and we must heed their wisdom.

Gather friends to your side, <name>. Take them north to Zim'Rhuk to destroy guardians there until they yield the unblemished heart. Take them east to the Altar of Quetz'lun and disrupt the altar wardens until you recover their gusty essence.

Deliver both to Har'koa and she will combine them into that which will compel late Akali's prophet to appear.
