I'm not to impressed by some of the rewards either, for example this waist. It's decent if it had some more sta.. bah...
Anyhow, unlike what you'd think, this dragon is actually not immune to any stun/slowing/freeze effect, and after getting my penetration and +hit to max on my 72 frost mage I managed to solo her. I kited her to the Horde camp but I think only 5% of the dmg was done by the guards, they don't do anything unless you are atacked and seeing as she hits me for 3k or 5k crit, no thanks!
In total I think I did 60% of all dmg, 35% by other players, and perhaps 5% by the guards when I got hit once or when someone who happened to help got hit (due to frostbite and such). All in all... R1 FB is your friend.
I must say it was one of the hardest and intensive kite's I've done, it was just so unstable if I'd get a resist or not... in the end I didn't get a single resist I think when I swapped my gear but still ;s

I'm gonna assume that she'll be made immune by the time this hits the live realms though. (I'm not reporting it, as it's a nice burst of XP when I'd do this on the live for my mage =P)
I'm confused why some other mobs are immune and some others aren't anyhow... the magister for one of the pre-quest (the 3 pre-quests are the 3 wanted elite ones..) is immune to everything, and this one to nothing =o same with Gigataur and Dreadthingy bird... *shrug*

EDIT: And the gear I used was mostly BT/MH epics (4p t6), though I used some old stuff that had +hit on it and the 2 PvP rings for some extra penetration to avoid resists. If she happens to resist one of your frostbolts it can very quickly lead to HP loss, and she hits HARD like I said before...

For Horde characters, the pre-requisites to this quest involve doing the three wanted quests:

As of beta build 8820, this guy is fully snareable. It took time, but I soloed him as a Frost (14/50/0) Death Knight by simply kiting him to Agmar's Hammer (Alliance can kite him to their Wrathgate outpost or Star's Rest town) and running around the base in circles while slowly whittling his HP down with Icey Touch and Howling Blast. Not too hard to do, but it's definitely tedious.

Also, as the above poster mentioned, the guards don't assist unless they see you get hit (don't get hit, he hurts), but chances are there will always be a few players that will jump in to help you slay the big dragon.

EDIT: As of build 3.0.2, the NPC guards of Angmar's Hammer no longer assist you even if you are hit by Sarathastra while standing right next to them.

Soloed as a level 80 12/5/54 unholy DK. Still vulnerable to snares and slows.

Basically, I hit her with Chains of Ice using Death Coil and Death and Decay when I could. I stayed in Unholy presence for the movement speed buff (she moves like a rocket!) A second DK (level 74) joined in about 15% in. All in all, the fight took 9 minutes and 1 second with me kiting her around the bones just east of the NPCs. This is excruciatingly slow, but very doable.

Army of the Dead, predictably, didn't help at all.

Tip: use stuff like Bone Armor, Rune Tap, Blood Tap, etc. to use your non-frost runes up to get more RP to Death Coil more often.

I solo'd this quest as a level 73 feral druid on live realm with 5/5 vengeful gladiator set. It was really easy since the dragon is stunnable and rootable as people already mentioned. Also, I'm pretty sure it's necessary to have Improved Leader of the Pack which gives you 8% mana back now including to the heal which I found very useful while doing this since I had to heal pretty often.

I tanked it in bear form with about 15.9k armor where she was hitting me for about 1.9k. My strategy was to keep up Faerie Fire and Demoralizing Roar while mangling and lacerating, and mauling to to keep rage low. When I needed a heal I would either Nature's Grasp or Bash - Root if Nature's Grasp was on cooldown then run out of melee range, and heal myself with Healing Touch then put up a Regrowth and Rejuvenation before Feral Charging back in for the hots while fighting, not once did she break roots early. That's about it, GL on your attempts.

3 man without healers, druid rogue and lock, can be kited as I was a combat rogue and had blade twisting, the tank was safely healing himself, just be sure to get the initial aggro

Duo'd as a reasonably geared (19k hp) prot paladin and fire mage, just make sure to keep holy shield up, stun early with holy wrath and hammer of justin and heal up in the duration.

When you get really low, use hand of protection on your partner and bubble/bandage yourself, we coulda have mage iceblock but we didn't plan it out beforehand, use lay on hands finally when you're extremely low.

Just to confirm, Curse of Exhaustion does not slow this mob down (though it does apply it) - that or it runs faster than you even with the slow and the run speed boost I have from a gem so a lock cannot kite this. She caught up with me in about 10s and killed in 3 hits.

Tanked him in pvp gear averaging s3 quality as a moonkin very easily. Had a shadowpriest healing me and it worked fine.

Soloed today (11/19/2008) as lvl 75 Frost mage in s3/s4 gear. I doubt it is doable without having both the Chilled to the Bone and Permafrost talents, but if you do have it its a pretty straight forward fight where you just have to kite as much as possible and use your Fingers of Frost procs wisely. It can be pretty challenging for your mana pool but I did it with Molten Armor up and I used 2 mana gems (1 early), 1 Super Mana Potion and an Evocation (just nova the dragon and cast evo). I do have Imp. Water Elemental too, which probably helped me a lot both on the extra damage and the 0.6% mp5.

The wyrm's hitbox is pretty small so no need to sweat if you get inside the red circle once in a while.

Edit: You will probably want run speed enchant on boots as well :-)

74 MM hunter did it with a 73 BM hunter and 72 frost mage... mage died. it took us 2 mins. no pots.

Soloed! lv 74 arcane mage.
99.999% by me, 0.001% by other players, and 0% by guards.
Use slow, run in circles, use Arcane Barrage every 3 seconds, don't worry about missle barrage procs, use 1st mana gem charge when it won't put you over full. 2nd and 3rd when cooldown ready, when out of gems and low and mana, cast frost nova, slow, blink evocate, conjure mana gem, slow, use mana gem charge. Rinse and repete.

Oh. and if your adamant about soloing it... make a macro and put it some where easy to get and warn ppl not to help and if they do that you will kill them. and at that point, and then if they do, don't cast slow, cast blink, cast invisibility and run straight.

took me 4 trys due to ppl helping attack, 4th try i took it over to 48,41 on the hill, less ppl there from what i noticed, pally came up but left after i spamed /say with my macro.

How to solo this as a level 74 Demo lock (0/56/9):

Gear: Mix of Badge stuff, Season 2 and 4, and some crafted (eg. Bracers of Nimble Thought). I used my Commander's Badge for this fight.

Glyphs: The Voidwalker one is what matters here.

Pet: Voidwalker.

Buffs: Demon Armor (for the extra healing), Spellstone, and any stamina food.

The dragon has no special abilities; it's a tank-n-spank fight.

After you talk to the guy who summons the dragon, wait for the dragon to run to you, since there are no mobs around the little camp to complicate the fight.

Send the VW on the dragon, popping Demonic Empowerment whenever it's available.

Pop the Commander's Badge for a short burst of DPS, and pop Meta before you throw Curse of Agony, Corruption, and Immolate on the dragon.

Now start funneling health to the VW. Your priority is keeping VW alive, obviously, but whenever he around 10k health and you need health or a dot needs refreshing, do so, but only if VW does NOT need health.

I had to pop Soulshatter once.

I completed it in around 6-7 minutes on the first attempt. Easy if you keep a close eye on the health and mana of you and your mini-tank.

Easily 2-manned by a 73 SL/FG warlock and a 74 frost mage. Not rootable or fearable but it doesn't matter. Lock used CoW, Immo, Corr, SL and Health Funnel on the VW. Soulshatter as necessary. The fight took about 5-6 minutes. I could have soloed him (warlock) except for Sarathstra periodically switching targets and attacking me doing 3-4k damage per swing. I never topped out on threat, so this must be scripted.

Another report of being able to solo the quest.

Level 75 Arcane Mage. Make sure you have a stack of mana gems, make sure you have Mage Armour up (Glyph Helps) and you should have a big enough Mana Pool just to kite him until he dies.
I kept up Slow on him, launched Arcane Barrages every cooldown and threw in the occasional Missile Barrage and AP POM Fireball where I saw fit. I kited him in a circle around the area where you summon him. I used three gems and I had to apply slow, blink and evocate once but it was very easy if a little slow.

Seems odd that the blue rewards for killing him are worse in almost every respect than the green rewards you will earn in the prequests though.

I just solo'd this as a 72 lvl warlock demonology with 4/5 s4. I used Fel Armor which, in conjuction with Imp. Health Funnel which resulted in the HP loss and gain evening out. I could even use Life Tap and over time I got my HP back.

Felguard tanked --obviously-- as I kept Curse of Weakness on the mob at all times along with Corruption and the occasional Immolate when I could jam it into the rotation.

Do note that this took me about 15 minutes to complete :p

Solo'd as a level 74 Demonology lock with hardly any PvP gear. Improved Health Funnel + Fel Armour helped with healing my pet (Voidwalker, since his armour is so much higher I wouldn't have to worry about the mob wreaking too much havoc). Tossed in Corruptions and Curse of Agony's, used Demonic Empowerment every time it was up, same with Soul Shatter until the threat buffer was greater than anything I could overcome (also used Suffering every CD). After about 25 minutes with only about 2% help from another player before I asked him to stop, (did this on purpose.... <_<) got Sarathstraz down and added to an ignore list!

Soloed as a lvl 75 Unholy Death Knight. Simply have your Ghoul out, pop Icebound Fortitude whenever it's up when youä're going in to melee.

What I did was I attacked her, not knowing how hard she hits, and I got a bit surprised at the damage output she had. So I popped Icebound Fortitude and continued to have my diseases up on her and spammed Death Strike. When I got too low I used Chains of Ice and ran away to bandage, pet stun if she is close to interrupt your bandage.

Then just continue to have Chains of Ice on her and use Icy Touch on her while she's slowed until Icebound Fortitude is back up, then go Plaguestrike her and Death Strike spam until Icebound fades, then it's all about continuing from the first step until she's dead.

4 manned it with a 74 TG warrior, 74 Feral druid and two 73 Unholy Dk's. Me and one of the DK's, (I'm the warrior), died and the other DK was lagged out. So halfway through the fight the feral druid pretty much soloed her.

Well she's definitely soloable. I downed her as a lvl 76 10/57/0 demo lock in instance blues of my level (You can check my spec/gear if you want on the armory, Falanoria / Warsong). I wouldn't want to try any lower than that so kudos to those who did. Have a health stone up before going into battle and use Demon Armor.

Standard lock solo, just sic the void onto her, start off with demonic empowerment and tap a suffering off immediately to initiate threat. Dot up...I only used Immolate, CoA and Cor.

She hits hard so you'll be Funneling almost the entire time. There was enough time to Drain Life when needed from funneling...not a lot, but in little bursts, just to take the edge off the CD from creating health stones when you need 'em. Rinse and repeat.

Sometimes had to just funnel and drain for a while without dots to lower threat or alternatively you could just Soulshatter halfway through if you want to spend a shard, but with the new in-game aggro meter it's easy to see when you need to lower your threat.

Takes a while, but barring any crazy lag spikes, it's definitely doable.

Well i was a Balance druid level 74 and was able to solo it after couple of tries, The this is to be always ready to root him,
1. Use Starfire and right after it has cast start casting root,
2. just repeat that again and again and in the end he will die, tho it will take time

to say easier its Starfire -> Root -> Starfire -> root etc.
its better if you Don't summon treants cause they will break root and will cause you to loose additional damage

This is laughably easy to solo if you have a spammable form of CC (I'm a balance druid and have roots). Just CC, do some damage, CC again, repeat until dead.

If you're a balance druid like me, you can lay down insect swarm/moonfire, then root. Then just keep spamming the root spell. It will fail repeatedly until roots expires/breaks and then it'll succeed, thus keeping the dragon perma-CC'ed. Just refresh your IS/MF and spam roots.

Sarthastra is vulnerable to any kind of slow or immobilize effect as above posters have confirmed. Slowing effects will not allow you to kite her because she moves VERY fast. If you are using an Immobilize to nuke her down from range take care to refresh it often as she can close the distance with you almost instantly once it breaks. She melees much harder than other elites you have encountered outdoors so far in Northrend, but has no abilities. Average hits were about 1500 against 14k armor.

Pretty soloable, I did it as a 77 affliction lock without any trouble, just kept the vw up for tanking, used Siphon Life and Health Funnel to keep both my vw's hp and mine up, and once the vw gathers enough aggro (I waited until she was at 100k), just blast her with all the dots / sb's you can =)

Shamans: Solo-able as Enhancement. No snares, no CC, no kiting, no help from guards or other players, just brute force. I'm level 80 in a mix of heroic and Naxx gear and unlike some of the suspicious posters here I'm forthcoming with the limitations of my class. (And we do have many limitations.)

I had SoE, WF, Healing Stream and Searing Totems down, summoned Spirit Wolves after my first Stormstrike and dished out the vast majority of my damage while the wolves were up. Sarathstra's health bar was low by the time the wolves despawned, but I had to use my Maelstrom for heals at least twice afterwards while I dropped the rest of her health. Because I was using mana like crazy during that initial 45 seconds, I saved SR for after the wolves to regain mana and help a bit with damage mitigation. I did not use Bloodlust, Elementals or potions.

It would be a bit difficult -- but very feasible -- for an Enhancement player to solo pre-80 using the same method (no kiting, etc) thanks to the Spirit Wolves. If you try this pre-80 or without 80 gear, slap a stamina scroll on yourself, bring some potions and be ready to use Bloodlust and your Earth Elemental. If you're a long-time Enhancement player, you're bound to be very, very happy we can finally solo quests like this with our amazing new end-of-tree talent in WotLK. Good luck!

Edit: Modded down by the liars who claim they solo'd an elite mob -- which can hit clothies for more than 4k -- three or four levels above them. It's sad that people feel they have to brag about their prowess at a video game and probably cause wipes to people who read these comments. If you had help taking down this mob (and at level 71 and 72, with 9k health, you certainly did) then say that so that your comment will be useful to readers. But "solo'd at 72" is a flat-out lie, and most definitely involved the help of NPCs or other players, even if you're a pet class.

Solo'd as a 72 Demonology Warlock with the Felguard. Wearing mostly S4 gear, used curse of weakness and health funnel, throwing in Corruption, Immolate, and Drain Life when my Felguard was topped off from Health Funnel.

Was hitting my minion for about 1.1-1.4k per swing.

As Unholy DK I had no trouble whatsoever soloing her. Stuck my pet on her and started kiting with Chains of Ice. Only dmg from me was Icy Touch + Death Coil. Took a while, but at least I was able to finish it solo.

Soloed as 75 mage. She can be frost novaed, so with water elemental and mana gem/potion, it's possible. Use all your trinkets and cooldowns as often you can, because you need to do a lot of damage within the time you got mana for it. She will get into you some times (depends on your spec and the cooldown of frost nova), but use ice barrier when you need. Since I am herbalist i had free heals from Lifeblood.

I soloed this easily in bear form. Just tank her until you're at about half health, then Bash her, root her while Bash is up, then move just out of melee range. Once you're safe, bandage then HoT yourself up & go in for the next round. With Improved Leader of the Pack refilling your mana, you can do this every time the Bash cooldown is up. Took me a few minutes but Sarathstra died & I never even came close to dying.

Edit: Now that you can cast Nature's Grasp in feral forms, this dragon just got even easier.

Demo Warlocks: I strongly recommend avoiding the Felguard for this. He may have better DPS and threat-generation, but the price is survivability. Even with 2/2 Fel Synergy, 3/3 Demonic Resilience, 2/2 Imrpoved Health Funnel, AND the 2-piece bonus from the Corruptor Raiment, he got torn apart in less than a minute, and I was chain-casting Health Funnel the whole time. The fact that she's Immune to all Fear effects is no small matter either.
I recommend doing what Falanoria suggested.

Just solo'ed as a lvl 72 Demo loc....not too hard of a fight, just "Really" long. Had to use old blue though, the Fel Guard just couldn't take it. I never had that good of gear either, was rollin with only 1263 SD

Well it may be soloable, but it was definately 2 manable.
Me as a 72 Unholy DK and a 74 Ret pally had no problems really.
I tanked and spanked, the pally also spanked and just popped a heal on me every so often when it was needed.
Took a bit of time but no need to kite.

Did this on my 74 frost mage today, 2nd attempt. Very fun and rewarding but not sure that I could repeat the performance...

The real constraint is going to be mana. The fight lasts very long, and you're burning a lot on expensive blink, fireblast... Be ready with a full mana gem stack, evo early (during a full duration frost nova and while your pet is down).

He seems to move faster shortly after landing--not sure if this is time or percent based, or a bug. He is snareable, rootable, and stunnable. As soon as he landed I was casting frostbolt, with my pet out. Pet freeze first. Frostbolt and stun. Frost nova next. Another pet freeze should be up soon, and by then he should be moving at normal speed while snared. Permafrost is very helpful.
Immediately after your first pet dies and frost nova is put on cooldown, cold snap and start all over again.

I stopped casting ice barrier. If this guy gets to you, he won't one shot you but unless you have an immediate out (frost nova or IB, or blink if he's still snared--but then how did he catch you?) you're going to die before you recover, even with frost barrier. 3 hits, probably. You can't tank this, so frost barrier is just a mana sink.

If you're just power leveling, get a group or just outright skip this one. It is too long and difficult for the time investment.

Used tanking gear (quite a lot of good blues for my lvl...) + frost presence (resulted in 19.5k hp, 500+ def... so quite good stats for my lvl)
Obviously kept diseases up and spammed death strike whenever i could. I also used the cooldowns whenever they were ready... IBF, bone shield, dodge trinket from hellfire peninsula quest ^^,... also used one health potion
I was also specced for rune tap... which gave me some additional healing (not improved = 10% hp every minute...)
it was a close fight... but if uve got a pet summoned you can always use death pact for another 40% hp, if necessary.
I know this wont help most of you, but i'm just mentioning it in case some dk is having trouble with this bony dragon.

Soloed on first try with my 76 blood-tank spec DK. 20k health 23k armor, 530 defense in my tempered saronite blues. Rotated vamp blood and rune taps when they were up, free icebound fort every 1 min w/glyph, used a ghoul to help dps. Kept diseases up and death strikes when available. I'd say it took about 3-4 minutes. Didn't have to use a Pot.

Duoed with my 74 Demo Lock and my gf's 74 Frost Mage.

Sent in my Voidwalker, put DoTs on her, then Health Funnelled, popping Demonic Empowerment on cooldown to help with his threat whilst my gf spammed Frostbolts.

Got her down to 50k health no problems, then an 80 warrior showed up and helped us burn down the last shreds of her health. We would've managed anyway, but the warrior shaved a minute or two off'f the killing time :P

Agreed, she was an insanely easy fight. I didn't even find it necessary to root, bash and HoT worked absolutely fine.

Used barkskin every cooldown, and a damage trinket now and again. Kept up faerie fire and demo roar. It all added up to a nice chilled out fight!

Oh, and used FR twice instead of a bash 'n' heal, but either works.

solo'd as lvl 76 Elemental shaman. (I think any shaman can solo kite it, but they would need a frost shock glyph. I didn't use on as a elemental)

Start by putting a earthbind totem on the place where he will land.
Start running towards Wyrmrest temple.
I was running sidewards, so I could frostshock him all the time without turning fully face to him.
Whenever he would be to close (which he shouldn't be), put a earthbind totem, so you could also root him.
(elemental shamans, only use Thunderstorm when needed to knock it back!)

Once you are at Wyrmrest temple, just run around in circle.
The guards won't help you but normally, a player in Wyrmrest Temple might help you...

Sidenote:

Don't think it matters, but I equiped the trinket.
Downed him without taking damage.
Finished him with 99% of my mana!
With talent, I managed to cast frostshock then flameshock, then back to frostshock and so on.
Also used earthbind, when flameshock was still up, so I could use Lava Burst, to speed it up a bit.
Took me about 6 minutes.

helped out a a lvl 72 demo lock on this quest, My level 78 blood knight was fully geared in savage saronite gear and using the saronite mindcrusher 2h mace. I popped on Ice presence giving me %62.99 reduced physical dmg with a food buff and ice horn . Was able to do a 2man kill. She had felguard and her usual onterage of DoT's on top of my DoT's. Kept refreshing plague strike and Frost strike, and then of course death strike keeping my hp up also used Dancing Rune weapon(love that attach ^^) . About 15% the lock was out of mana and had to rely on wand power lol I was 3/4 full when this Dragon was downed. Very feasible in a 2man group Cause as a whole this dragon just hits hard. And I got the quest completed as a bonus, took the fukit all pill and gave it a shot, was very rewarding to down a dragon with a hell of allot of hp lol

This can be easily solo'd by any class by using a glitch. If you to this point on the map

then you can pull her down when she pats by (assuming you have some sort of range mechanic) doing this will bug her out and she will just come to you and look at you allowing you to kill her with taking no damage.

~~Just like to note i have not tested this on melee, as ranged i didn't have to move to attack her, if you move she may bug out.~~
Edit: She doesn't bug out if you are melee, if you pull her down, her attacks are disabled

I'd only recommend doing this if you can't find a group or desperate as it is always more fun to do it with a group.

Solo'd as a level 74 Frost Mage after four failed attempts. She can be snared and rooted, the trick is to not go OOM before she dies. If you can survive to your second Evocate you are in good shape. I did not have Glyph of Mana Gem but I think it would help a lot. The fight ended up being about 8 minutes long.

Get your int/spirit as high as possible. I equipped several (IMO inferior) quest greens to hit 10k mana.
Use Mage Armor.
Use mana Evocate early, Mana Gems too, I used all three of mine.
Keep track of your cooldowns, use WE on the pull and every time it comes up. Make sure you use both freezes every time the WE is up.
Don't use Cone of Cold, the mana cost is too high. Try kiting without Ice Barrier up as much as possibly, it's expensive to cast.
If you think you can pull it off, invis while she is rooted and far from your WE, this will drop your threat (but not combat) and let you launch some Frostbolts at her while she walks towards your WE.

That's about it, towards the end I was doing a sort of FBolt->Run->FBolt->Blink->Repeat rotation waiting for my cooldowns to come up. It won't be easy.

I didn't want to risk trying the glitch mentioned above and have her bug out on me, or wait forever trying to get a group (or kite, would have taken forever as feral), so I tried this myself. Soloed as a 76 feral druid in crap greens and a few blues from quests/the auction house and the BoA pve shoulders. Took a while and I had a few "duuur" moments, but definitely doable. Only took one attempt.

Did the usual; self buffed myself with mark and thorns, also used a lvl 70 stam scroll, guru elixir (I'm an alchemist/herbalist) and a minor food buff. Basically did what the bear druid above already mentioned, but like I said, I had a few "duuur" moments. Somehow managed to use a pot when it wasn't needed at the time, forgot I had bandages (and lifeblood) until later in the fight, stacked too many hots when I don't have the mana pool/talents for it instead of just using HT, and used innervate too late so it wasn't up soon enough later (imp LotP wasn't giving me enough mana back). I ended up running very low on mana/health (not enough mana to heal and shift to bear) and just chain rooted her, getting tiny passive mana ticks for another root while waiting for innervate to CD. ><

So yeah... with the fail displayed here that a lack of sleep brings, if I managed to pull this off regardless, so can you. :P

Priests, have fun trying to solo this. She's immune to shackle and fear, and runs faster than you (i couldn't keep away even with 2/2 body and soul). She hits for 3k, critting up towards 7k often enough. Not to mention her 265k health pool...

Definitely was able to pull her up on the mountain thing near the mentioned spot.
Took me a while because my Crusader Strike was unable to attack but I used Divine Storm / Judgment and Seal of Corruption. Used Exorcism everytime it was up, Holy Wrath stunned and I was able to jump up and use Crusader Strike, same with Hammer of Justice. Took me a while but I got it done! :D

Easily 3-manned with a 77 Prot Warrior, 74 Death Knight and my 72 Resto Shaman (hooray dual-spec while levelling!)

The fight is definitely an endurance match rather than a DPS race, and can probably be 2-manned with a decent tank and a healer who won't run out of mana very quickly.

I was able to solo kill her with 76 feral druid. Threw on my tank gear and fought her in bear form. Took about 3-4 cycles of bear tanking/root/heal. Fight maybe took about 8 minutes? I was able to pop my trinkets twice during the fight. She doesn't do any sort of burst or spell damage so it's pretty easy to gauge. Just don't let her pop you while you're not in bear, took about 3k dmg.

Just soloed this as a Blood specced Death Knight. Equipped my Tanking gear (not even full, just some defense pieces from leveling) and popped Frost presence and just took the hits. Make sure you have your diseases up for death strike healing, use your blood runes for Rune tap, use cooldowns from the beginning and you should be able to do this.

Tried various ways of doing it, using seal of blood was completely fail as to be expected, corruption went better but still had to blow ever CD in the book and died at 23% and my final attempt was blessing / seal of wisdom and keeping my mana pool topped off was the trick, just beat on her with Divine storm, Crusader Strike, Judgment of Light to proc Art of War and when the insta-flashes arn't enough or your on a bad no crit streak holy light when necessary and you'll have her in about ~8 minutes. Inspired by all of the "soloed" posts, I soloed this today on my lvl71 dk with mostly quest greens.

I just kept rooting it over and over while keeping icy touch on her. I used horn of winter and belf racial to generate runic power and I'd throw a deathcoil. The bones she lands near is a great kite path if you just run in a circle, however after a while some hyeenas will pass through that area, just need to change the path a bit if they do. If I got low, I'd just rune tap. Also, I'd use the ghoul everytime it was availible. I'm blood spec, but this might be easier as unholy with some blood mixed in so you can heal yourself if you start to doze off and get hit. :p

Took about 30 min or so... :x No one else was in the zone, else I'd just say recruit some random person...

Easily solo'd as a blood dk at level 74 in tank gear with about 17k hp in frost presence. I simply spammed death strike, icebound fortitude/other misc cooldowns and had rune tap whenever I felt I was losing the HP regen battle. Took about 4-5 mins total.

For everyones information, this quest CAN be solo'd because i just did it, 74 demon lock. curse of agony, corruption, health funnel. make sure to have your fel armor on for the health regen.

Soloed with my lvl72 deep-demo (8/55/0) lock Alastorr. Use your Voidwalker as pet (NOT Felguard). You can use Curse of Doom, Corruption and Immolate or which ever dots you wish, Voidie can keep aggro pretty well. Use Demonic Empowerment every now and then and keep Health Funnel up at all times. You can cast Immolate or such in between Health Funnels without losing Voidie, but avoid using Shadow Bolts (unless they're instant) or Incinerates to minimize the chance of getting aggro and keeping health funnel up. I also manatapped a couple of times, but no major manaloss occured during the fight.

Fight:
Nothing special about the fight really; Sarathstra keeps doing the same melee swings throughout the whole fight and doesn't have any abilities that could catch you off guard. Remember! It's a survival fight, NOT a dps race if you choose to solo.

Gear:
I have the heirloom items, some Zul'Aman gear and rest from Northrend rewards (I had around 1200 spell power), but I don't think you need that good gear. My Voidwalker had around 8,5k HP and 10k, when empowered.

I hope this helps or gets more locks to try it, it's really rewarding to solo that big badass Bonedragon ;)

Grabbed the quest and, seeing that it was a 5-man group, didn't read the details or realize that I was supposed to talk to the guy to summon him down (figuring I'd get back to it later while in a group). While flying around Dragonblight doing other things, I happened to be passing over Galakrond's Rest and saw him pathing by the big mountain. Figuring this is where I was supposed to fight him, I quickly landed and hit him with a Flame Shock, then prepped for an epic battle. To my surprise, he didn't hit me once or do any damage at all, and after a few minutes I was turning in his heart.

To make a long story short, this glitch still works in 3.2.

just kept curse of weakness on dragon, and keep demonic empowerment on felguard, using the ocassional coruption. whilst constantly using health funnel to keep felguard alive

I soloed this as 74lvl prot paladin, had Blessing of Sanctuary, Seal of Light, Divine Plea and Judgement of Light for the whole fight. Got it to around 75% by then i was at 15% hp and had to use LoH. Next time at around 50% i was again low hp, bubbled and healed up twice with Holy Light. Then i realised that hes stunnable and the rest was easy. Just HoJ when its off the cd and heal with Holy Light.

Finished with 50% mana and 90% hp :)

E: remember to keep Holy Shield up at all times.

ok othe alternative for frost mage is indeed using cone of cold,
first put your amplify magic she dosnt do magic damage and you will recieve bonus healing if you are with a group if you are soloing i suggest using the trinket you gain from battle of undercity who heal you about 2k with a 2 min cooldown very good one for long fights like this.

prepare mage armor and at the beginig pop water elemental and icy veins freeze her, shot her, and deep freeze her and you will gain abount 10 secs without being hit.

she is very slow and cone of cold will let you kite her very easy only cone of cold,move back ward,cone of cold,move back ward.remember that cone of cold may triger brain freeze who is a mana free fireball that will help a lot.

try to frost nova her every time and then using cone of cold and move backward again and pop water elemental very often.

for me the fight was about 12 minutes long only kiting her i used 3 managems,evocation 1 time,and one mana potion.

very easy fight for mages who have experience kiting and a very funny one,if you are having trouble with mana conservation use a mana oil or equip items with plenty of intellect.

IMPORTANT

Sarathstra is affected by nets like frostwave nets.so if you are a tailoring mage like me you can use them to slow even more Sarathstra and gain a couple of seconds to use trinkets,or evocation

confirmed glitch. Soloed with my 76 elemental shaman. You probably need to have 45 range on your shocks for him to be pulled properly, but after that it's a walk in the park.

Soloed as a 72 DK, as above DKs, keep up the diseases, DS everytime is available, used ghoul when available and make sure you use death pact before they go, other then that use IF and mark of blood and rune tap as needed, took about 7 mins as saw my 3 min CD twice and 2 min CD 3 times. am mostly blood specd and was in quest tank gear and in frost presence.

Stood on top of the cliff according to cords above.
Dragged her to me and started to use Blood Boil, Death Coil and Icy Touch.
She hit me for total 6.5k this was one hit when i pulled and two more during the fight when i moved.
Took me 21 minutes.
Avarage DPS 231.

As an unholy Death Knight I was thinking Ghoul Frenzy was a big waste of talent points... For this quest that talent is brilliance.

Its basically spam Chains of Ice, Icy Touch, Ghoul Frenzy and Death Coil. When ever your ghoul can stun drop a Death and Decay and refresh Chains of Ice.

When your ghouls stun is up, that's the longest point you can get her to stand still. If you drop a Death and Decay just before the stun and refresh your chains of Ice just before the stun drops off she will stay in the D&D for its full duration.

Just soloed it as a 76 Affli/demon lock. Easy but long fight. I just used corruption and health funnel (not improved), kept Curse of weakness up (lowered its damage by ~500) Soul shatter on CD, whenever I had the chance (when threat and void health allowed it) I did some dps, just to shorten the fight. Hits for 1500-1700, crits for 3000+ (numbers are after Curse of Weakness). For a Demonology specced lock this would be easier I believe.

Well, apparently as of 3.3a the glitch is fixed. I went up as high as I could on the little mountain at 50,33 and pulled the dragon down with a throwing star. Not only did she look at me, she killed me. In like two hits. It was not pleasant.

I soloed this as a 74 Blood DK but I didn't do it the "normal" way.

I had the dragon called down and then I did chains of ice on her and then just spammed that spell as I ran to Agmar's Hammer. Once I was there I kited her around the center as suggested by Exertim in the first comment.

I kept Icy Touch on her and made sure to spam Chains of Ice and I never took a hit. Some people at Agmar's did help but I felt bad that one of them died so I donated a few gold for their help :)

If you have some sort of snare/root you should be able to solo this.

as a 75 prot pally with pretty decent prot gear, it wasnt too difficult.. having said that, it wasnt easy either...the trick is to dispel divine plea after the 1 min cd and then holy light ureself a couple times - after which u would cast divine plea again...you can practically keep going forever without ever dipping below 20% health and mana.

Just wanna say to all those mages that are wondering if you could solo this, yes you can and very easily if your arcane. Just keep slow all the time and arcane barrage when you can. Remember to keep Mage armor up so you get 100% mana reg while casting (talent gives another 50%) Take max distance when missile barrage procs.

I did this as a 73 lock.

Tips:
- Demo spec is almost a certainty. It was very hard for me as full demo.
- Remember: "When in doubt, turtle it out."
- Use curse of weakness, it's far more useful than curse of agony for this fight.
- Voidwalker over Felguard. I'm a huge fan of Felguard, but I couldn't pull it off with him out. Maybe it was between having half the armor as a voidwalker or being crit for 4k twice in a row...
- Improved health funnel will, no doubt, be absolutely necessary
- Use Fel Armor, not Demon Armor. The 2-3% health every 5 seconds is crucial and will heal you far more than Demon Armor's effect. Not to mention that the extra spell damage will help out health funnel and any otherwise spells that you use.
- Don't forget soul shatter. I personally didn't need it because I had to spend so much time funneling, but it would come in great handy if you end up doing more damage than I did.
- Death Coil and Healthstone are your friends if you get low. Use them before bandages because bandaging is risky; you'd be quite surprised how fast your pet will die if you leave it alone. Using Metamorphosis/trinkets/blood rage with Death Coil will increase the amount healed.
- Life tap when your pet needs mana.

I couldn't dot that much because I had to spend most of the time health funneling, so threat wasn't all that big of an issue but the fight did take about 15 minutes, so note that. Use demonic empowerment often to keep threat high, but save suffering. Use suffering for a spare moment when you need to bandage (use it at the same time as demonic empowerment for extra threat), or if you feel like doing extra damage. The 15% miss will help a lot, as well as the last stand effect from the Voidwalker's empowerment, you should be able to spare a few seconds.

Last thing to say is BE MINDFUL OF THE 4K CRITS. The first time I tried this (it took me two tries, once with Felguard, once with Voidwalker), I got it down to about 20% health and the one global that I decide to reapply curse of weakness, my Felguard got smacked with an unreduced 4k crit, followed by another (this time reduced) 3k crit.

Soloed as lv73 feral druid,here is my tactic:

1)Cat form
2)Pounce
3)Rake
4)5 combo points
5)Rip
now change to Bear form
1-b)Always keep Sarathstra debuffed with Infected Wounds,5 stacks of Lacerate and with mangle.
2-b)When your health is below 35%-30% use Nature's grasp move away from Sarathstra and heal yourself.
3-b)Repeat steps 1-b and 2-b
4-b)Sarathstra should be dead in maximum 12 minutes(took me 10minutes to kill her :P ).

PS:Don't be afraid to use Innervate,the fight won't end in <5minutes so you might aswell use Innervate twice.

Solo'd this today on my 72 demo warlock, was VERY easy, actually.
Send in felguard, with Demonic Empowerment, CoDoom, spam health funnel, use Life Tap when felguard goes low on mana (If you have Mana Feed), and use trinkets+CoDoom whenever it's off CD. An important thing to note, is that I have Improved Health Funnel, making it all that much easier. Good luck!

Very fun group quest. Used a shadow priest (73), frost mage (72) and a holy priest (71). Since she can be rooted, frozen etc., the mage was able to freeze her in place for some seconds. It didn't last very long though. I (shadow priest) tanked her in the beginning while having shield on myself. When the shield was used, I faded and let the mage kite her for a bit. When my weakened soul was over and I could be shielded again, my fade was over too and I tanked her again. Very funny quest IMO.

Solo-able as a rogue. You'd better be 80 and geared though, she hits hard and you'll need to Chain all of your survivability cooldowns to make it, and you'll only barely make it.
