I solo'd the first two as a lvl 72 Death Knight without any problems, but the Prince is no Cake walk his shadow bolts cause a lot of dmg and he is immune to most things.

I managed to solo on the beta with my destruction specced lock at level 73 with t6 level gear (some Sunwell). the Prince has about 60k HP

My spec was 0/21/43 (fire destro) with sacced felpuppy for mana regen, it may be worth saccing imp for extra fire damage...

tips:

If you have a shadow protection pot this will be much easier...
make yourself a healthstone beforehand to use mid fight
use shadow ward before the pull

At about 12 seconds before it runs out start casting soulfire --> Immolate --> Incinerate

Refresh the shadow ward as soon as you can, keep dpsing as much as possible, if you can't kill him before he kills you you lose ;(

I survived with about 4k hp left, but I did not have the new rank of Shadow ward and the new healthstone ranks are also broken.

The two mobs on the lower floor were stunnable/fearable so killed easily.

Also, I don't know if this is going to be implemented in live but the quickest way back to town is to just go get yourself killed and then you will res back at town alive.

Solo'd easily as an elemental shaman in.. what used to be healing gear. For the prince just grounding totem the shadow bolts.

Uthion and Vanthryn are in two nooks near each othe on the first level of Naxxanar - Prince Valanar is on the upper level up the stairs.

Use Anti-magic Shell when ever it is up - try to time it for just before his shadow bolt.
Bone Shield if you have it of course.
Bring a potion or two if you can.
I used Death strike at every chance. Anti-magic zone worked awesome for this as well.

And make sure you clear those pathers!

Be careful he has this ability called Soul Deflection which reflects any damage you do back to youself. I found out the hard way before coming here. But anyway, don't attack him when he's channeling. One minute you're OK next you just critted yourself for 6K.

This is fully soloable by a 71 Blood Death Knight. On the two flunkies you dont even need to use your Ghoul or Dancing Rune Weapon, just use Ice Bound Fortitude. Valanar is another story and requires you to use both. Also it may be wise to clear both sides as an extra mob most likely means death. Use your Anti-Magic Shell right before he finishes casting Shadow Bolt and spam Death Strike when up and you should be good.

You can access to Naxxanar (where the 3 elites are) from Temple of En'kilah. Enter the temple and turn right, there's an orb to use and then a portal to enter right after.

First floor
When you're inside Naxxanar there are some necro who cast fireball/frostbolt (easy non elite mobs), clear the ones you need to get to Luthion and Vanthryn who are in this floor. They are both melees and they hit around 800/900 on me (moonkin with 15k armor) but they are definitely snarable so shouldn't be a problem for most classes to solo.

Second floor
When you're finished with them, go where you got ported but just 2 yards up (remember Naxxramas?) and go to the next floor of Naxxanar. There's some deathblade on your way to Prince Valanar but they are easy non elite mobs, clear them and get to him. Valanar casts 2.3k shadowbolts and he hits on me (moonkin with 15k armor) around 1300/1400. You can avoid shadowbolts just using line of sight. If you're a healer this is the easiest of the three elites since you can just heal up the bolts and keep up the dps all the time. As stated above, if you have bt shadow resist gear you should take him down without any problems at all.

As a moonkin I soloed them easily, dunno about melees like wars and rogues or priests. For wars and rogues, you can probably nuke them down using a couple of cooldowns or you can just snare the first two, go out of los and bandage if you need.

If you wanna go easy bring someone with you. This should be the last quest of Taunka'le.

Prince Valanar has an instant-cast ranged nuke (Soul Blast) that hits for about 2k. He's able to cast it frequently, and shadow resistance will not mitigate its damage.

As a 73 mage (Sunwell-geared), I was able to solo the other two with some instants and some kiting, but because of Soul Blast, I couldn't take down Valanar. My SR set (330+) prevented most of the Shadow Bolt damage, but Soul Blast hit for the full ~2k every time. Line of sight ultimately won't help--if you try to pop in and out of LOS even to use instants, he can Soul Blast you.

I'd say this isn't soloable. It should be doable with two (DPS/healer). Valanar mostly attacks from range and shouldn't require a tank.

Currently there is a bug with the teleport leading to the Prince. You have to jump up in the air while standing in it in order to get teleported.

It seems people who have not collected the scrolls in the previous quests CANNOT enter Naxxanar to help you with Valanaar. I ran into this problem today, figured it would be worth mentioning.

Solo'd as a T6 Enh Shaman

Did have to use wolfs, fire ele and played safe halfway and took a pot aswell, so don't expect an easy fight if you have the gear to solo it.

I solo'd this as a decently geared prot warrior(15.5k hp, 690 shield block). The first 2 guys were a joke and I pretty much kept them stun locked the entire time but they hit like little girls and shield block mitigated all of it. The last guy was very difficult but I managed to do it. I spell reflected every other shadow bolt and would us los to stop the second cast and try to get in as much damage as possible in between. I used my herbalism heal, potion, shield wall and finally last stand but managed to get him down. Also don't try to spell reflect the insta-cast bolt as you can't and it wastes a spell reflect cool down.

I solo with my 75 destruction lock (0/11/55), but just use corrpution, CoA, immolate, HF, and VW to tank the boss, first i let VW to tank for a whilst and give dot to boss then use HF to heal VW, and keep dot on the boss all the time, when the boss was channeling me, i just use HF to heal VW, i was aggro with the boss once but i use the soulshatter then i never got aggro again to the end :)

i think the affliction lock is could be easier to solo the boss than destruction lock ?

Justed soloed this as a 71 BM Hunter in Season 1 Arena epics.

The two elites on the first level were easy. Just had my pet tank them while I took them down.

The Prince, however, is a little trickier. Having a tanking pet isn't useful with him. He does extreme burst damage, which your Mend Pet won't be able to keep up with.

The trick is to bring a DPS pet, as every bit of dmg you get on him counts. Have him attack you while you run around corners, keeping the aggro, all the while having your pet clawing at his HP. Make sure he doesn't get a Shadow Bolt of tho. They hurt!
There is really nothing you can do about the instant damage he does (Soul Blast), you are just going to have to try to take as much dmg as you can. When you are getting low on HP, feign death and have your pet take over while you bandage/pot.
And make sure to call your pet of when he does his Soul Deflection thing, as it will reflect the damage on it. (And you should stop attacking to ofc.)

It takes time but it is very doable.

Solo'd Prince as a level 71 Affliction warlock.

I'm not sure how you would consider my gear level, but the trick to this fight is clearing the entire room and playing a game of catch-me-if-you-can; in other words, kiting :P. The first thing you wanna do is send your pet in (I used a fel hunter) and throw in all the dots you possibly can. After doing that, be sure to pop Shadow Ward and RUN. The pillars are a bit hard to hump so the best alternative is to get out of Prince's casting range. As soon as all your dots are finished, shadow ward should be up again. Pop SW, run towards him, refresh your dots as quickly as you can and run. Just rinse and repeat this and you should be fine.

In summary:

1) Make sure to clear the entire room
2) Make sure to have an SS and an HS.
3) If you have any trinkets, blow them.
4) If you got pots and you find yourself in a tight situation, use them.
5) Be sure to know how to run.
6) Shadow Ward is your best friend.
7) If you spec'd into haunt, this is also your best friend.

Soloed as a level 72 elemental shaman (in Season 2 healing gear!)-

This was fairly simple; it just needs to be done methodically. Luthion and Vanthryn were not really problematic. As stated above, clear the area near them to eliminate adds. I dropped my totems as usual (stoneskin, mana, wrath of air, searing), used my Direbrew Hops trinket, then started with Lightning Bolt. Once the fight was going, I used my earth elemental with Luthion and the fire elemental with Vanthryn, all the while continuously casting Lightning Bolt and keepming Flame Shock on them. Water Shield helped keep the mana pool comfortable.

I found Prince Valanar to actually be easier than his buddies. He just required a bit more care. Make sure to take out the guy on horseback that roams. Other than that, the only other mob I eliminated was one of the guys to side of the Prince. The same basic plan works- just no elementals this fight. I dropped these 4 totems: wrath, air, mana and stoneskin. I think Water Shield is again a wise choice. Get in range for Earth Shock to disrupt some of his shadow casting and start in with the Lightning Bolts. He seemed to be pretty vulnerable to Flame Shock- I kept it on him the entire fight. He will hurt you, but don't panic about it. You'll have a chance to heal up and recast Water Shield when he channels- no damage then. Earth Shock will NOT interrupt the channel. The only time the fight got precarious was when I tried just that and scored a nice big crit on myself. You should be able resume DPS with full health after the channelling finishes. Just stick with that plan- Lightning Bolts, Earth Shock to interrupt his casts, keep Flame Shock on him, and interrupt with Earth Shock (when possible). I never needed to use a health or mana potion during any of the 3 fights.

Solo'ed as a Death Knight: 72, Blood/Unholy (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/talent=jf0GqI0csfMxzZZf0G0xfo) With all quest gear from the Borean Zone, and some gear from Nexus/UK (quests from there only as well, therefore all of this is obtainable and plausible). I do have a point into Shadow of Death HOWEVER, I didn't die on any of the three.

First off, use frost presence, makes everything smoother. For the other two other than the prince, tank n' spank situation, just keep up the rotation, your hp will not drop below 10k (my max was 13-14k). Now, for the Prince, you'll need your ghoul, and you're going to have to play it really smart, his spells hit hard, so juggle AMS, use RT whenever you get the chance, if your ghoul's near death, or you are, sacrifice him for hp. Make sure to keep up the diseases AT ALL TIMES, and attempt to lay down a DnD after every shield he uses (during which, do not attack him). I didn't know about the shield, could of done better if I had, but never the less he died, first attempt, with me having 2.5k hp above.

Only reason I tried to solo it because I got tired of all the LFG's from other classes and players whom were way better geared or higher level or etc, and wouldn't of had the problem. Plus, I was impatient.

For me, this was the last quest of the zone, gained the achievement for the quests in the area several prior. As far as I can tell, all group quests in this area are 100% soloable as a DK, or to a smart player; minus instance quests.

For Druids, Bear form auto attacks will be good enough to kill the first 2.

When Prince cast soul deflection, pop out and do a barskin, regrowth + HT, then go back to bear and slowly torture him to death, i had almost full hp and mana when i killed him.

Confirmed that this quest is a joke to solo for any moderately-geared player. Did this as a 71 boomkin, and I put on my PvP gear (mostly S2 welfare epics) for the extra hit points. I shouldn't have bothered.

The first two are rootable. Enough said, really. If they can't melee you, they can't hurt you.

The prince doesn't melee, so don't waste your mana CC'ing him. When he does his spell reflection, give yourself a few heals, and keep going.

Soloed as a 71 Unholy Specc'd DK. Make sure diseases are up at all times, and death strike whenever it is up from cooldown. Every time i saw him casting his shadow bolt I threw up anti-magic (If the runes were available for it). Disease, Disease, Death Strike, Anti Magic. Squeeze in Rune Strikes and Scourge Strikes/Blood Strikes when you can. Watch your DPS while he is channeling, due to his reflect. Rinse Repeat and down goes Frasier.

Pull with death grip to the stairs that you came up from so that you dont get adds.
Keep up diseases and death strike whenever you can

use Anti-magic shell to nullify shadowbolts
pop mark of blood and vampiric blood
heart strike / rune strike / death coil as runes become available

remember to back off during soul deflection and bandage yourself and he`ll go down

Soloed as a lev74 Combat Rogue in S2 gears.

Luthion & Vanthryn are cake, because they could be stunned.. etc.. nothing is worth to be mentioned.

For Prince, he is immune to Stun / Kick. Also, he is a typical caster type mob, has low armor value, making him soloable for rogues.

I failed my first attempt, but I learned something.
1. when he is channelling the reflecting spell, all DOTs on him are damaging you as well.
2. you never know when will he channel that spell.. he somehow casted the spell when I use my 5CPs Evis.

Just don't be as bad luck like me, you will be fine.

Soloable as a 72 MM hunter for the most part. Im in a mix of pvp, kara, and ZA gear with a tank specced gorilla as a pet. the 2 bosses on the first floor were very easy, but the third boss was more difficult, although I just messed it up and on my second try it was easier.

Keep Mend pet up at all times

Use misdirect every cooldown

Feign when threat is high.

Pet on passive and pull the boss into a freezing trap. Bandage yourself/pet at that time, maybe wait the full 20 seconds for some time in viper/CD on misdirect

Watch Adds, still doable with them but makes it much harder.

I've posted a screenshot of the teleporter, which as others have pointed out is not an angry red orb but is a blue glowy table. Just walk onto it, you may need to jump to activate. In the picture you can see the city entrance in the background.

Tried several times solo as a lvl 75 MS warrior with no mentionable upgrades after TBC, but kept dying from deep wounds and shadow bolts.

My advice: put on your tanking gear. Got him after two tries then. Keep hammering him with shield slam and revenge, you should get a lot less Deep wounds to interrupt your bandaging. Use spell reflect to grind him down with his own shadow bolts. In the end of the battle, switch between battle stance to execute and def stance to spell reflect to survive the fight. The extra execute dmg is crucial to win. Remember to use Enraged Regeneration skill if you have it.

Soloed as 73 Holy Pally in TBC S2.

Kinda straight forward for a Pally. What else is better then 6 seconds of uninterrupted healing time. Seal of Wisdom and Judgment of Light (just my personal preference) with Shadow Resist Aura. Just watch his cast bar carefully to switch between Shocking and Healing. If you got 3 shadow bolts in a row you might wanna play it safe and heal before his next Soul Deflection.

A note: You can hug the wall to get around him to clear any surrounding/patrolling mob.

Just downed the first two guys with little trouble but died on Valanar twice, though I found an extremely easy way to down him on my third try. Might not be good for ranged but I'm a Blood Death Knight so its more directed to them.

If you pull him into the stair well then there are no adds or patrols that go through them and very it has very distinctive line of sight blockers on the mid level of the stair well. He may be a little hard to pull cause he keeps stopping to cast Shadow Bolt or his channeling ability, but once in there hes cake!

Just nuke him down after you pull him down the first flight of stairs and run behind the wall that acts as a passage to the actual stairs. Stops his casting and from there, I stayed full health easy obviously as Blood Death Knight.

Just try it a few times and you should get him easy :D

soloed as a prot. pally. he's relatively easy if your geared for it, but if your not try to get the blessings of D.E.H.T.A buff, it will help. As its been stated, watch out for his channeling spell, as you will be hurting yourself as well. also, and i'm not sure if i was just lucky or not, the prince dosen't move around so as long as you don't use wide range abilities, all you have to do is come in from one side and wail on the guy without fear of drawing additional agro from one of his death knights near by

Thank God for ( Slow ) spell .. im a lvl 73 Arcane Mage and if i didnt have that it would have been much harder.. beens Mages dont have Pets unless your a Frost mage.. For all you Frost and Fire mages out there.. take a friend just in case.. these bosses can be hard to kill and have 64k each, hit very hard and beens your Water element pets only last for so long.. trust me

OH YEA! one more thing you have to use the upper Portal above the lower one to get to (Valanar) when you get there you have to put yourself in the middle of the lighted portal and jump to be ported.. Which has to be a glitch in the game!

I'm a level 70 DK, and I had a level 79 Frost mage to help me; extremely easy. He could'nt go into the portal so he just took his flying mount and flew up the Naxxanar. If you want a level 77+ person to help you, that's the way how to it.

This was do-able as a level 71 Unholy DK - although I did die on the last one (Valanar), luckily the advantage of coming back as a Ghoul meant that I actually finished it.

Filled with undue confidence I also tried it using my level 71 Rogue - not quite so easy :) Maybe I'll try him again in another couple of levels...

75 ret paladin no issues. I kept SoW and JoL active, when hp dropped i healed up using holy light. I was using crafted dps gear so my hp is quite low 10400. Not a real problem, realized that the channel spell reflected my dmg so stopped attacked the last elite when he used that. I was also in shadow protection aura and used LoS on him. He was by far the easier one to kill.

Since I don't see any previous "I solo'd this as a mage" comments, I figured I'd add mine.

Well, first off, I did not solo this. At least not completely. I was able to kill two of them - minus the Prince - as a level 74 Fire spec mage. Dragons Breath, Blast Wave, Ice Block, and Frost Nova are your friends. Do what you can to blast them away and keep them off of you and you should be ok.

The Prince, however, owned me. His spells hit too hard. Maybe doable as frost, but I like fire :)

The two first elites ("Luthion the Vile" and "Vanthryn the Merciless") soloed as level 72 protection warrior with blue/greenies quest item gear. Spammed Concussion Blow, Shockwave, Disarm and Shield Block every cd. The last one ("Prince Valanar") was harder to solo. He can't be stunned and shooting shadowbolts faster than the Spell Reflection cooldown.

Hits for ~800 on 13k armor, and his shadowbolts hits for ~1500. Also he do a soul blast that hits for ~2000.

Solo'd as a 72 Rogue in full s4/guardian gear. Used 1 super healing pot.

A note to other rogues having trouble: Mind numbing poison works on him. Makes the fight much much easier.

Had no trouble soloing this as a frost mage (well-geared, PvE).

The key is to LoS his shadow bolts, and not to cast when he does his channeled spell. It may take a bit to kill him, but just get a quick frost bolt out, then LoS while he casts, repeat. Keep your water elemental out as much as possible.

In order to LoS properly I had to constantly move and ended up all the way down the stairs which were near his spawn point.

One more note, he does have an instant cast which you won't be able to LoS and which hits pretty hard. Just keep ice barrier up and take them, you should be okay. My health was only 8k when I did this.

As a 72 shadow priest, I was able to solo this, but I took advantage of loading up and equipping my shadow resistance gear from Black Temple.

With that and my shadow resist buff, I was able to take down the final boss. It wasn't easy though, I healed up quite often and needed to use my fiend/dispersion.

No need to LOS him with this method - You can just basically stand in one spot. Watch out for adds though, I missed a rider that does the full rotation of the upper tier, and I died on my first attempt (after he joined the fight)

I'm not a very good player when it comes to soloing stuff, so this is more to the people out there like me - Without the shadow resist gear, I don't think I would have done it.

In regards to the first two elites, they can be feared around, so although tricky, with some timed heals, and the use of dispersion (to buy some fear cooldown) they are doable.

Or better still join a group. Not always easy though is it, and that's why I had a go at it on my own.

Very easy to solo as elemental shaman.

Just pop your wrath, manaspring, and a grounding totem when you can and spam LB / Chain lightning.

Whenever he does soul deflection, stop doing anything, and just heal yourself to full.

Did it as lvl 72, without using Bloodlust or any elemental totem, only trinket and elemental mastery.

Fun fight.

I solo'd this quest on my 73 warlock. I had no problem with the first two elites. They are not immune to fear -- just make sure to remove all guards nearby first, and the patrol on horseback.

Prince Valanar did give me some trouble though. He is immune to fear and has spell deflection. I'm also affliction so it didn't take long for my Voidwalker to lose aggro. I died the first time but had him very close to death. The second time, I tried to stay out of his line of sight, ran out into the hallway, and then down the stairs and back up. I would DoT him up and take off running. Use shadow ward when you begin the fight, and also use haunt if you have this ability for the heal it gives you.

Entire quest soloed as a 72 Feral Druid with T4 Tank gear.

Luthion the Vile and Vanthryn the Merciless:
No sweat really, pop in bleeds and rip asap in cat form, regrowth, rejuv, finish the fight in bear form. You may have to pop Frenzied Regen.

Prince Valanar:
He is another story, he hits harder. He does this ability named Soul Deflection which is the reason why he is so easy to kill, an entire Soul Deflection will give you enough time to cast Regrowth/Rejuv/Bear Form before it ends given that you immediately start casting Regrowth when he does his thing. So whenever he Soul Deflects, free heals baby. You can LOS the Shadow Bolts but if you're lazy as I am, take em like a man. Don't forget Berserk and Survival Instincts and do not start spamming Mangle in Soul Deflection.... :)

Since I haven't seen any hunter comments...

Soloed as a 73 BM hunter in Kara gear. It was quite difficult, I completed it on my third attempt.

I was tossing up whether to bring a ferocity pet or a tenacity. I brought my ferocity pet because he was higher level, but I think he might have been a better choice anyway due to Lick Your Wounds and Heart of the Phoenix. I'd recommend creating a macro for each and putting them in a prominent spot on your action bars - I had to use both (the autocast is currently bugged). I also used two bandages and a healing potion, so come prepared.

Remember to call off your pet when he uses Soul Deflection!

As a deep demo lock in old S1 gear this was pretty trivial, just keep out of aggro range of (respawning) adds and kill the mobs with dots at your leisure while letting the Big Blue tank.

On other hand, with my retri pala I found that I had to get someone keep me alive. Didn't manage to solo the caster (prince)... the shadow bolts and the channeled drain pretty much kept me dying in vain.

Just FYI when i had killed the Vile guy, i looked on here to see how to get to the prince's platform while i was looking the Vile guy respawned and killed me so i dunno if it was a fast respawn or what... so just be careful.

Soloed as a 73 Frost Mage in decent TBC PvE gear.

The two elites on the lower level are *!@#, anyone should be able to solo.

The prince took me a few goes, the trick was to bandage when he does his soul deflection thing, line of site the shadowbolts, and trade aggro with your water elemental.

Very hard to solo for a Mutilate Rogue. I am level 74, BT geared and the best I could do was to get him to 9% after 7-8 tries. Then a DK joined in on my next try and we got him down. Would have probably killed him after 8+x tries, but a real challenge nevertheless.

He is very anti-mutirogue as he has immunity to all kind of stuns and interrupts (yes, to all), you can't DoT him with Rupture or Deadly Poison due to his Soul Deflection meaning you can't Envenom and you can't make much use out of Evasion as most of his damage is magical. So basically damagewise you're options are down to keeping SnD up and Eviscerating.

Could be done probably much easier by wall-dancing and getting out of LoS when he casts Shadowbolt, but I am too stubborn to get things down the hard way.

Soloed as a 73 BM hunter, new character so nothing but Fjord/Tundra items. Used my Gorilla.

My pet died at like 8%, but since he was ranged it wasn't too hard to finish it.

Whenever he channels is a nice time for mend pet to tick your pet's HP back up, really extends his time to death a lot.

Also, you can bandage your pet while he channels for a little extra boost.

Conserve your mana! I used all mine, Vipered back up to 70%, then went back down to like 10-30% before he died.

Soloed as a Level 62 Enhancement shaman in quest gear from borean tundra - the two first guys are easy enough, though I did pause to get the wolves each time.

For the final guy it was touch and go there as I suddenly was getting more damage that MSW heals could cover - turns out I managed to over look is channeled damage reflector. just back up bandage or /dance at him till he finishes it and it's *!@# easy really

I soloed as a 72 feral druid, i got around 16k health and 20k armor in bear form. i only wear some quest reward item, so nothing fancy like tier or pvp reward suit.
Luthion the VileAnd Vanthryn the Merciless is very easy, i dont have to heal or use any potion.
but Prince Valanar is a bit tricky, when he start casting Soul Deflection i have to pop out from bear form and immidietly cast healing touch, regrowth, rejuvenation and lifebloom on my self. before the battle end i drink super healling potion and the battle end with me only 1k left of hp.

Could be just me but as a combat rogue the prince seems nearly impossible. Tried him on level 74 10 times but couldn't manage to down him. Gear was T4 with S1 swords (dual mongoose) and nexus + azjol'nerub quest rewards (used 1 superior or runic healing potion on each try and 30 crit rating food)

But if you want to try, here's some tips - didn't help me to kill him though
DoT's proc the Soul Deflection so don't use deadly poison/rupture/garrote
Immune to cheapshot/kidneyshot/gouge/blind/kick
Kill the one patroling and one stationary DK from either side, as you need to try LoS the shadow bolt

Sololed as a 73 BM Hunter with Blues TBC Gear, S2 gear and a gorilla pet

Vanthryn the Merciless- Freeze Trap and Distracting Shot are your friends. Keep attacking him and be careful of the gargoyle. Lay a freeze trap and when your pet's health gets too low, use distracting shot and when he's frozen heal up your pet. Auto Shot then Feign for your pet can get aggro. Rinse and Repeat. If your pet dies, freeze trap him and revive. Mend and bandage b4 it breaks, get aggro for a while while mend ticks and Feign for your pet can get aggro.

Luthion the Vile- Same Strat as Vanthryn, keep Mend Pet all times and clear the mage pats on both sides so they won't be a nurisance

Prince Valanar- Careful of Soul Defection, turn off auto shot and pull back your pet. LOS the shadowbolts by distracting shot and running then feign to return the aggro back to your pet. This one i couldn't solo because of my pet and gear. If you have a ferocity pet with Lick your Wounds and Heart of the Phoenix like Mazil mentioned, it makes this fight is much easier. Bandage your pet/cast mend pet when Prince does soul reflect and try to tank 1 shadowbolt and wait till the 2nd shadowbolt is close to finishing then feign. Make sure your pet is attacking him or you will reset the fight.

Tried soloing on my level 70 Blood/Unholy DK (23/0/38), in almost full borean-quest-gear. On first boss I tried Frost Presence and pet, + keeping dots up and doing Death Strike as much as I could. I died when the boss was at about 10% hp... But (surprising), I came back as a ghoul and critted him down a second before I died!

I decided to try Blood Presence this time, as Unholy Presence wouldn't work good at all and Frost Presence can't stop the 3k hits these bosses do (12k armor)! Doing Rune Tap and Death Strike with dots up, I survived until he reached 20%... Sacrificed my pet when the boss was at about 40%, and returned as ghoul when I died, but when he had only 2k hp remaining I died...

I wouldn't try to kill Prince Valanar lol, no matter how stupid I am! I'll wait 2 or 3 more levels until I try this quest again...!

The first two are rootable. Prince is LoS'able. Just do a wall dance and you won't even get damaged.

The only damage I took during this quest was from the mobs I had to clear to get to them.

This is soloable as Frost at 73.

I took a lot of tries, and a lot of frustration, but it's doable.

You must have high stamina gear. Defense is good to have for his auto attacks.

Use LoS when you can. Use your ghoul after you've hit him a few times.

I managed to work it so that the ghoul took aggro about half way through the fight while I LoS'd his Shadowbolts. I did it without sacrificing him (Valanar killed it).

Use Deathstrike as much as possible (exclusively) and keep your diseases up. Anti Magic Shell when you can and watch for soul reflection.

Watch those instant SBs. They hurt.

Soloed as 70 retribution paladin on greens from quest rewards... needed a few trys but after a while i got it, here is what i did:

First of all go with Judgement of Wisdom, Blessing of Wisdom and Seal of Wisdom all the time.

Luthion the Vile and Vanthryn the Merciless:

They are not a big deal, i used Avenging Wrath every cooldown just to nuke, they can be stunable and repentance (1 min repentance) so you can rest as much as you want. One tip with Repentance, on my first trys it broke and i didn't know why later i found it was because of Retribution Aura (seems sometimes they managed to land a swing just after my Repentance :<) so just go with Devotion Aura to be safe.

Prince Valanar:

This one is a bit more tricky but after a couple of trys i found the perfect spot to do it, i just pulled him back to the stairs were you run to the second floor, there you can line of sight him as much as you want and no respawns.
So all you have to do is line of sight as much as you can and keep yourself moving non stop hiting him with instants (Judgement, Crusader Strike and Divine Storm you can also leave a Consecration) so you force him to move aswell. I had full mana all the time more or less and my hp wasn't a problem (didn't go under 50% at any time). Because of the moving he wont melee you really much because you can line of sight and move 30yards away from him while he is casting the shadow bolt or channeling the reflect thing so when he gets to you again he will stop there and start casting another shadow bolt (like 80% of the time it will be like this) so more or less all the damage you get is from a few melee hits and the instant he does (like Death Coil), when he casts a shadow bolt you have plenity of time to heal yourself and when he does that channeling thing just stand still and don't hit him at all.
He is immune to both Repentance and Stun so here i just used Retribution Aura, shadow resistance aura wasn't really worth it (unless you have some shadow resist gear).

I was confused about where the platform was located. The first comments said you enter the castle. Actually they mean when you enter through the front gates, turn right and you'll see the glowing blue platform. You do not have to enter any buildings. The platform is in the court yard.

Confirmed easy solo as a Ret Paladin. If you find yourself having issues with his lackies, simply HoJ to full heal.

I found Prince to be easier than his lackies, mainly because Prince is a caster. Simply heal as necessary while he casts shadow bolts. Just be sure to stop attacking when he channels. Otherwise, tank & spank. He is immune to HoJ. Didn't even try Repentance. No pots necessary.

This is soloable as a level 71 Retribution Paladin in quest greens. Make sure that you use Seal of Command and not Blood as your self heals won't be able to keep up with both the enemy's damage and Seal of Blood damage. I used Judgement of Light for these fights; the extra mana from Judgement of Wisdom isn't necessary. Key is to make liberal use of Art of War and its instant healing. The first two guys are fairly easy. I killed them using Devotion Aura as a precaution but they can easily be dealt with in Retribution Aura, should you so prefer.

When you need heals on the fights, simply use Hammer of Justice or Repentance and hit them with Judgement of Light to proc Art of War.

This tactic won't work on Prince Valanar, but, as others have said earlier, simply do not attack him while he uses the Soul Deflection skill (looks like a purple channeled attack). Make sure you have Shadow Resistance Aura on! It reduces his damage output quite a bit.
Heal with Flash of Light when he does this. If all else fails, you always have Lay on Hands and Divine Shield to lay back on, but I didn't find it necessary. The only times you should be aware is when he gets a lucky crit on you. I got hit with 2 melee crits from him, hitting roughly 2.3-2.7k damage.

Note: May want to keep a Runic Mana Potion handy just in case! Good luck.

I only mention this because i find it disturbing or rather annoying that in order to get these blues we go through a longer chain and possibly grouping for the last quest (depending on your gear and how well you can handle yourself) whereas the alliance side is a series of what seems to be an easy and short quest chain. is this to make up for the fact that horde gets the blue weapons from the warsong hold chain? Did this as a 71 restokin. For the first two, just nuke + dot + root, rinse repeat. The last one cant be rooted, but he is a caster. All I did was dot him, break his shadowbolts casts by using LoS and healing.

As a lvl 74 Shadow priest, with ok gear (engineers goggles ftw) I had some trouble on my initial attempt to solo the last guy. Killed by my own dots during the channel. Succeeded second attempt by only using direct damage spells (Mind Blast and Smite, out of shadow form) and healing myself. Had to use dispersion, shadowfiend and a mana pot, but didn't LoS any of the shadow bolts.

Soloable by Ret paladins. (lvl 73, when done). All fights are basic endurance fights. Seal of Wisdom will do the trick.

With Prince, pull him towards the stairs where you came up. Here you can LoS his shadowbolt (keep shadow resist aura up while fighting him). When he casts his soul deflect, heal yourself. When he's casting shadowbolt, LoS out of the way and heal yourself. I only popped bubble to give myself a heal when I was being dumb and stood out in the open.

For people going back at 80 for Loremaster, there are two Prince Valanars. One is accessed from the blue teleporter inside Naxxanar and is located on the upper ring. This is the one you want to kill. The other Prince Valanar is located on the top outside the necropolis, and has 115k hp and a little scene with the Lich King. This one is for an Alliance quest, and will not give credit for the Horde version. The Valanar up top has all the same abilities as the other version.

I had to pop my earth elemental for Vanthryn though, no wolves used.
Then I decided to burst down Prince, placed strength of earth, mana spring and windfury, then popped ghost wolves, fire elemental and bloodlust. His HP just rushed down to zero, he didn't even get to use reflection.

Managed to down all three as a 71 Shadow Priest in mostly green with a few instance blues without too much trouble. First two hit hard but seemed to miss alot and I had no need to use Dispersion, scream or Shadowfiend for either of them. Top boss was a little harder. I kept dots up, shielded whenever it was off CD and threw a couple of G heals on near the end. Shadow protection helped a ton with him, as they lessen the damage from both from reflecting your own dots and his shadowbolt. I used both Dispersion and the fiend but they weren't really neccessary as I wound up with 75% health and mana at the end.

Managed to solo him as 72 BM hunter in epic gear. The combat was really fun and risky aswell as i couldnt handle the damage he was doing on my pet so i had to ressurect it while he was casting soul deflection. after that i went all out dps. The result was to get him slained but i got killed too. Oh well better coz i was transfered directly near the village ;p

Took a while to solo as a 71 feral druid but def doable as long as you LOS his shadow bolts. In Dire Bear form, I had roughly only 11k hp in quest greens and blues. I killed both guards beside him as well as the guard that pats around on the mount by the stairs. Using Faerie Fire, I pulled the Prince to the top of the stairs on one side of the opening and when he casts Shadow Bolt, move to the other side of the wall. Took some healing during Soul Deflection and used only my innervate cooldown. Takes a while but his melee hits don't hit for much and you can use Frenzied Regen in a pinch. Good luck =)

Might be worth noting that you can simply fly up to the bottom floor of the necropolis (where Luthion and Valanar stand), entering either from the bottom near the portal or the ledge that Valanar stands on.

You can't, however, fly to the top floor. And will need to take the portal to get to Vanthryn.

I just soloed this no problems on my 72 BM hunter.. used a 72 worm, specced it for anything that had to do with healing, respecced myself for more survivability, and grabbed the glyph of mending. Had no issues killing any of the mobs; kept up scorpid sting and mend pet was healing for 1k per tick. Never even had to blow the pet's Last Stand ability. I'm wearing mostly quested gear with a few instance drops and the heirloom bow.

Soloing this quest as a frost mage

As many of the other comments on the page indicate, the first two elites you have to kill are pushovers. Luthion and Vanthryn are both susceptible to all status effects like normal NPCs. I was able to kill both of them without ever being touched by just frost bolting them down and hitting reactives when they procced.

Prince Valanyr is another story altogether. You don't have to worry about slowing him, he won't move much. But that doesn't help much since his spells are lethal, cannot be interrupted, and he's immune to stun. My first attempt at killing him failed, with me out of mana and him at 5k hp. As an undead, alchemist, and herbalist, I had to use every trick I had.

The second attempt I cleared one of the San'Layn to his side, and pulled the other back to the alcove behind him, where I stood to fight him. I killed him beside where I intended to stand so that I could use cannibalize during a Soul Deflection. I buffed with Mage Armor and Dampen Magic, used a scroll of 63 stam, flask of the north, superior wizard oil, and a stam/sp food buff. I cast Ice Barrier and let the cooldown finish before engaging him. I then sent in a water elemental and let it get to half before I hit Icy Veins and began nuking.

I maintained mana shield so that I had some damage prevention while Ice Barrier was on cooldown. I also kept Frost Ward up because inevitably, a Frostbolt will connect if it was in flight before soul deflection was cast. At his first soul deflection I took the opportunity to refresh wards/barriers and used lifeblood shortly after to recover lost health. At his second I used cannibalize on the San'Layn corpse beside me. At his third I used glyphed evocation. An endless healing pot was consumed, and I used a mana gem early in the fight.

As soon as my first water elemental died (it will die earlier if you dont pull it off during soul deflection), and immediately after i'd cast an Ice Barrier, I hit cold snap to refresh the cooldowns on both of those and Icy Veins.

Make no mistake this is a hard fight for a frost mage, but it is doable. If you aren't having much luck with the line of sight method and there aren't any groups, get creative and give it a shot.

The fight was quite easy. Standart spell rotation + Void Sacrifice when health starts to go low.

Valanar was the toughest part, I sent void in, while I put CoE, Corruption and Immo up, used sacrifice / shadow ward. Nuked.

Stopped during reflection, used a healthstone.
During Shadow Bolt casts, I ran round a corner, bandaged, health funneled, and timed this with soul def, to make sure I always had a shadow ward/ sac up.

Very easy as a lvl74 Shadow Priest to solo these guys, first 2 guys can hit pretty hard but just keep your bubble up and make sure that Vamp Embrace is on them, after that just use fear when needed. I only needed to use it once without Disperssion and got them both down pretty quick.
As for the last boss not hard at this lvl at all you will take dmg from your dots when he uses Soul ability that makes you take the dmg you do towards him but you can just pop out of Shadow Form and give yourself a quick Greater Heal & Renew pop back in, i used DIsperssion only to regain some mana back and he was dead within a few seconds.

Tips for fellow Hunters:

Make sure to pull you pet during Soul Deflection. I used a tenacity pet.

Don't know if tics from Serpent Sting are reflected by Soul Deflection, I didn't really use it. I used Scorpid sting most the time. Also a big tip, the last guy has like 45K mana, so if you are running low, hit him with a Viper sting. It regenerated almost all of my mana from one application.

Solo'd as a 70 SV Hunter in mostly borean tundra quest gear.

Have your pet keep aggro and just keep moving it out of LoS and keep mend pet up. Don't worry about having your pet constantly on him but just having aggro and turn to have it move out of LoS. You can spend some time bandaging your pet while Valanar does his soul deflection. If you're a BM spec you could prob just have your pet sit there and soak the damage but my pet couldn't take Valanar's DPS as a SV spec and I really had to abuse the LoS.

The other 2 are fairly simply, just freezing trap them if you get in trouble and they are trivial.

Alright, I just solo'd all three of these guys as a level 72 Troll Prot Warrior, here is how I did it:

For Luthion the Vile and Vanthryn the Merciless it was actually very simple, I just used all my of stunning cooldowns whenever they were up to keep myself from taking any real damage. Just start with a charge, get off a devastate, shockwave, another two devastates, then concussive blow, then Shield block, and finally disarm, ect. Keep them stunned while I beat their faces in.

But, Prince Valanar was a little bit more complicated. His abilities were Soul Deflection, a Drain Soul style channeled spell that would reflect any damage you did to him back at you, a standard shadow bolt that hit for roughly 2,000, and then a... shadow bomb I guess, that would hit for about 2,500. I found that the bomb was what was tearing me to shreds, so I figured out a way to avoid it. What I did was I taunted Prince when I had nearly full rage and used Spell reflect, it would throw his shadow bolt back at him for a good 2,200 and then I would Line of Sight his next Shadow bolt. After that he would get close to me and melee for only about 3 or 4 swings, then begin to channel the Soul deflection. If you just stood there you WOULD get hit by a shadow bomb and you'd lose a considerable amount of HP. So I would run behind a wall for ~15 yards and wait for him to finish the channel. Then he would run up and punch me a few times, but this is when you need to ONLY auto attack him or risk reflecting a lot of damage back at yourself. Only auto attack him until you see him start to cast a shadow bolt. This is when you throw up a Spell Reflect and you use every big hitting spell you can, but the moment he stops casting, spam escape and start to run to Line of Sight him again, because a Soul Deflection is coming. But, if he does not cast a shadow bolt when he comes to melee you after using soul deflection, then just auto attack because he's just going to soul deflection again. If you keep this up you should be able to solo him as a protection Warrior. It took me about three or four deaths to come up with this strategy. It does have a decent margin for error, if you execute it perfectly you'll lose maybe 1,000 Health from his auto attacks.

1st 2 elites are easy with the help of feral spirit. So make sure your feral spirit is not in cooldown.

as for prince Prince Valanar, he can be pulled solo. once he'd on you, put down a grounding totem, and any of the elemental totem (in my case i'm using Fire Elemental), call out your feral spirit as well and put up bloodlust, and then start ganking, however, remember avoid attack him while he's casting soul on you because it will bring down your health even though feral spirit is gaining it. The gank ended in less than 15 seconds ;)

With Luthion and Vanthryn just DoT them up, Mind Blast on CD and Mind Flay between CD, Psychic Scream whenever CD, shouldnt be too hard. Also be sure to keep up Power Word: Shield.
Prince Valanar, however, his Shadow Bolts can hit like a friggin semi-truck so be sure to keep up Shadow Protection. Other than that, same thing as the previous two bosses, with the exception that he is immune to Psychic Scream. When he uses Soul Deflection be sure to stop Mind Blast and Mind Flay, and as there is nothing you can do about your DoTs during Soul Deflection, just make sure Power Word: Shield is up during this time. I also found it very useful to use a trinket during this fight.Ancient Crystal Talisman is what i used.

Soloed as an elemental shaman, lvl 75.
Basically involved bloodlust, self heals, and grounding totem. I just started healing when he did the reflection abillity.
when he reached 25% hp I got caught by a patrol and had to use earth elemental totem. But all in all quite doable.

Solo'd very easily as a PvP specced Unholy Death Knight, 13k HP, 2 Heirlooms and no defense gear.
The first two guys were really easy, just keep spamming death strike.
Valanar was a little trickier, I did have to use a potion and ghoul sac.

So Death Knights, if you know how to keep yourself up, go for it!

Figured I would add my "how to solo as ___" 2 cents.

Lv 71 blood / unholy BE DK

The two guards were easy, normal rotation in blood presence, Death Strike was plenty to heal up.

Gave the Prince a whack once in blood presence, pretty much a failure as my diseases ticking during soul reflect did me in.

Tried again in Frost presence, and was much easier. Used Anti-Magic Shield when up to block a couple of shadowbolts and once during soul reflect. Had my ghoul out as well. The bloodworms up during soul reflect were plenty to keep me somewhat healed combined with the 8% damage reduction of frost presence. Never had to use rune tap or sacrifice my ghoul.

I soloed this quest as a lvl 72 Prot Pally. Granted, as a tank spec, I did not kill any of them quickly, but I did kill them eventually. My gear is blacksmith crafted cobalt armor and shield- other items are Northrend quest rewards. The 2 death knights were not too difficult since they can be stunned, silenced, etc.- Valanar though, was definately an interesting fight.

As other posters have stated, the key here is to beware of the Soul Deflection, lest you end up killing yourself.

After arriving to the 3rd floor, I killed death knights until I got to the area where Valanar is standing. He is facing the center of the room, and there are two death knights standing on either side of him, and one patrolling on a horse. I waited for the horseman to wander into range so I could pull him, then did so- killed him, then killed one of the guards near Valanar.

If you hug the wall, you can slip around the corner into the alcove so you are behind Valanar. Then I used Hand of Reckoning to pull the other guard without aggroing Valanar. Worked like a charm.

Now to deal with the Prince. Since my mana sucks, I used Blessing of Sanctuary, Seal of Wisdom, and Judgement of Wisdom. The Prince's Shadow Bolts hurt like hell, so I used Shadow Resistance Aura.

I avoided all DoTs (Consecration), and instead relied heavily upon melee and spells such as Hammer of the Righteous, Exorcism, Holy Wrath, etc (again... NO DoTs).

Whenever Valanar starts to channel Soul Deflection, BACK AWAY and heal yourself. He channels long enough that a pally has enough time to take a couple steps back and squeeze off 2 Holy Light.

As others have said, Valanar is immune to all stuns, movement impairments, silences, interrupts, etc. Account for this and plan accordingly.

Easy soloed as a 71 enchance shaman, just pop all cd's and burn em down. Prince Valanar was harder than the others, just heal when needed. :D

Easy to solo as retri paladin since you have so much self healing. Just remember to not to hit Valanar when channels the Soul deflection ability.

just soloed as a demonic lock lv 70, with this tatic

2 first both meele and fearable have armor and hs and ss rdy(you may not need it but just in case..)

send felguard in put dots on heal him when health is begining to get low, otherwise just spam sb and use incineret when molten core effects come and use soul fire when de.. effects comes easy kills

the prince is a little hardere, have everything ready, and send demon in give him time to get agrro, and DONT USE DOTS its gonna kill you, almost happen to me some can do it when just spamming life drain, but its more save this way
same tatic just watch when he use his reflect ability, just heal ur demon their its aint hurting you just continue that way make sure you aint get to high threat again.. quickly done

if you are unlucky and get threat then use your soul shatter ability, or fear ´with the 2 first ones with the prince just use shadow ward its gonna help a lot

ohh y and one more thing make sure you keep and eye for your demons mana

Easily soloable as a prot warrior. His shadow bolts can be spell reflected for ~2k damage. As long as you're in all Northrend plate armor with a shield, his melee damage is minimal. Just hover near a corner and LoS his shadow bolts when spell reflect is on CD, and stop damage on Soul Deflection. You shouldn't even have to pop Last Stand or Shield Wall, unless you accidentally Revenge crit yourself for 4k.

When a friend wanted me to help with this quest, I was lvl 73 and couldn't get the quest. My Taunka rep was Neutral, and I hadn't done any quests from Taunka'le (I'd achieved "Nothing Boring about Borean" with my main, so I was trying to go through Borean quickly on this alt). My friend got tied up, so there was no rush. I started by grinding to Friendly on Taunka'le quests that I didn't think were likely to lead to Breaking Through. It was not available at Friendly either. I can now report that the quest chain leading to Breaking Through is as follows:

1. Load 'er Up!
2. The Power of the Elements
3. Patching Up
Only then would Chieftain Wintergale talk to me to give me
4. Shrouds of the Scourge
Although the rest of the quest chain is correctly described under Shrouds of the Scourge, for some reason it isn't on this page, so here it is again:
5. The Bad Earth (a reference to Pearl S. Buck's _The Good Earth_?
6. Blending In
Once you complete Blending In, you can also get Neutralizing the Cauldrons and A Courageous Strike, but they aren't required to continue to

8. Breaking Through

although I was 76 at the time. The first two are easy, the main guy has 64k health and does alot of damage. I ate some agility food, and gave 20 stam food (outlands stuff) to my pet. I am also BM, so this helps pet longetivity a bit. I pulled quite a bit of shadow magic aggro from the main guy, but this is good as it splits damage between you and your pet. You can try cower, but I've never had much luck with cower. The other mob won't aggro (at least not at this level), so you can take him solo. rapid fire, trinkets, racial- don't forget all that. Got him just before my pet died. Mend pet won't keep up with damage, so you need high damage output.

To get to him, when you take the first teleporter you go around on top and take the teleporter above where you came out the first one. Then find the ramp up, circle around and you'll see the main guy. The other two guys are in the previous area before you take the second teleporter. They have less than 50k health and don't hit too bad.

Soloed with a 72 Shadow Priest, Mind control the first 2 elites near 2 mages. Kill em with your MC'd Elite. Shield yourself or use fear on elite, MC should have run out now. Dot him, MC, dot, MC.

Dps the caster or MC a nearby DK and let the DK attack the caster. Then just DPS him down.

I had to finish all quests in Taunka'le Village before he gave me the "Shrouds of the Scourge" quest. I guess this should lead to "Breaking Through"

On the right as you enter Temple City there is a glowing blue teleport pad, which takes you to where the Prince and his 2 lieutenants are. Once you port in, you will find yourself in a small depressed area, with the port pad you just came in on behind you, directly above that port pad is another port pad, that upper port pad takes you to where Prince is at.

The 2 lieutenants are found in area you initally ported in to, again, to access Prince's area, you go to the upper port pad. Jump in place while standing on upper port pad to activate it.

When you enter the Temple,to your right is a little glowing stone-port,go near it and it will port u to where u should kill Princes leutenants. Port to Prince him self is right above the of where u were 1st ported.
NOTES: for those who wanna solo it....... Both of leutenants are: stunable,freezable,slowable. Prince on the other hand isnt,but his a caster,so for healing speced players,ull have plenty of time to heal. He has a 'drain soul' looking spell,lasts about 4-5 secs .. When he starts chaneling,DO NOT dps cause u'll be inflicting dmg to your self aswell .. by that time he doesnt do any dmg to you. Casts 3 secs shadowbolls,and has instant seed shadow dmg. Balls hit for around 1500-1800,instant thing hits for around 2300-2500.

For those doing this quest on WotLK Classic, where to find the NPCs:

Luthion the Vile and Vanthryn the Merciless are in the first level inside Naxxanar, clear some trash to get to them or just fly to them if you have it.

Prince Valanar is on the second level, inside the Naxxanar, there are 2 pads on the center, one lower and one higher, the lower takes you to the ground and the upper takes you to Prince Valanar level, just kill some npcs and take the ramps up until you find him, you can always /tar prince valanar and mark him with a skull or something so you find him easier.

I solo'd this quest as a 72 Ret Paladin, do not use seal of corruption or consecration on prince valanar because he will channel a damage reflecting ability and you'll get damaged a lot, stick to righteous seal, for the other 2 fights just cast Art of War procs on Flash of Light and you'll be fine

You must find your way through the necropolis to the prince's seat. If you fail to defeat him, <name>, I fear my people will never know the safety Icemist offers.
