The name Taunka most likely comes from the Native American Lakota word tatanka which means Bison. Because the Taunka look like Bison.

At the moment All taunka Npcs are using Tauren models, they are placeholders as blizzard has already shown the model thats going to be used for taunka. They might be editing the taunka model or changing it but right now its confirmed that the tauren models are only temporary.

Apparently the Alliance equivalent is The Frostborn,a race of Frost Dwarves living high in the mountains.

Taunka was discovered by Garrosh Hellscream when Horde arrive at Northrend first time

To be honest, I was disappointed that they use the same dialogue as the taurens. When you click on them, you'd hear the same thing as if you were clicking on a tauren, not taunka.

The female taunka also look just like female tauren.. They are female tauren. Not very creative.

After completing all quests for this faction, you will stand at 9705/12000 Honored.

Sucks that Horde can grind this faction rep pretty much right out of the gate, while Alliance can't even meet a Frostborn NPC until they get to Storm Peaks.

While there are not discreet rep rewards for these sub-factions, it all adds up towards the main Alliance/Horde faction rep.

I believe they re changing the requirments for the Achievement and only have to be exalted with the the Warsong Offensive

The achievement is now changed (as Niex mentioned that it would be): You will only need to get exalted with Horde Expedition to get the Winds of the North achievement.

Male taunka look like freakin monsters, they are horrible looking. Nothing like the fluffy tauren. :/ Almost screamed when I met them.

I was sitting at 9305/12000 for the longest time. Spent a lot of time flying around with Low Level Quest tracking up and never found anything.

I decided to go through the list and it turns out that I was missing a drop quest obtained from an item dropped by these guys:

I think it may be an interesting idea if Blizzard had both the Taunka and Frostborne not as new races, but have them as options in the character creation screen, since they are now part of the Horde. Like most folks have said, its basically the same models just with different skins, or slight cosmetic tweaks. It would be VERY easy to integrate them, and have em running about in Thunderbluff.

I was on 8955/12000 and I was lacking The Damaged Journal quest chain from Grizzly Hills:

Anyone else stuck at 9275 / 12000 ?

I am 430 short, so that would mean that I need to do a 250, 150 and three 10 rep quests.

I have looked almost everywhere and cannot find what I am missing. I put in a ticket just now to see what item drop quests I am missing.

It is now possible to gain exalted reputation with the Taunka faction. The only way to do it right now, is to faction change (preferably Human). Then your Taunka faction will change to Explorer's League according to the faction change info page on the wow website. Do the daily 137 times (122 as human), and you will reach exalted w/ Explorer's League. Faction change back to your original race and your rep will transfer back to Taunka, being the same level as it was for Explorer's league. Takes a bit over 4 months to complete, but it is possible, and pricey. So, be willing to say bye to your friends for a bit.

As of 3.3 doing a normal or heroic dungeon will grant you reputation with the Hand of Vengeance and The Taunka all the way up to Exalted. As far as I can tell there are no rewards other then a credit towards the "40 Exalted Factions" achievement.

As of patch 3.3, you are getting rep with all Horde Expedition faction by doing instances and heroic instances.

The factions which you can get reputation with are:
- Warsong Offensive
- The Taunka
- The Hand of Vengeance
- The Sunreaver (not sure, since I was exalted already)

On normal difficulty you'll get 2.5 rep per normal mob, 7.5 rep per 'bigger' mob and 75 rep per boss.
On heroic difficulity you'll get 7.5 rep per normal mob, 15 rep per 'bigger' mob and 125 rep per boss.

In addition to instance rep, you can also gain spill-off reputation for both the Taunka and the Hand of Vengeance from daily quests. This includes the first four Champion daily quests from the Tournament (the three quest givers in the AC tent near Eadric the Pure) as well as all dailies that give Warsong Expedition rep.

I also have not tested the Valiant dailies as of yet (Sunreaver rep) as all of my characters that are in able to do tournament dailies are all Crusaders at this point.

ok since patch 3.3 , when you do heroics without a faction tabard , not only you gain reputation with the Horde expedition , but you also gain half of that rep as spellover to all the sub-factions (not sure about the sunreavers tho.)

so since 3.3 went live , its possible to get exalted with both the Taunka and the hand of vengeance , simply by doing alot of heroics. proof

hitting exalted with them give nothing special so far , but it helps if you're trying to get The Exalted title.

also since you are already doing alot of heroics , do it using the new random heroic dungeon system for the perky pug <3

I received Exalted after turning in a daily quest at the Argent Tournament so it's possible to raise the needed faction there as well. Surprised me I heard the gong go off and had no idea why.

These hardy people are cousins of the Tauren and have become valuable scouts for the armies of the Horde as they march northward.
