For me, I had a hard time actually shooting the harpoons. I would click and nothing would happen. I disabled addon's I was running and that seemed to fix everything up. Forewarned.

Just to be clear, the three building you need to hit are the ones on the water. From left to right, the buildings are: Storage Facility, Dockhouse, Longhouse. After each building 3 to 5 defenders on the backs of red dragons appear.

I had to turn off all of my addons to be able to shoot with the harpoon. The quest itself was a pie, just had to shoot directly to the rooftops rather than sidewalls or ground near them.

Confirmed: Some addons don't mesh well with the new Vehicles. I suspect Bartender4 or Xperl to be the culprit in my case. Quest worked fine when all addons were disabled.

You need to release pet if you have one out, or it will not work.

Also, i shot from the right hand side gun and got all targets, easily.

STEP 1: Disable any UI mods, a lot of them will glitch this quest.

STEP 2: Go to a harpoon at either 64, 54 or 64, 52. Doesn't matter which one you pick.

STEP 3: Use the item in your bag and you should "mount" the harpoon changing your UI with 2 possible attacks.

STEP 4: Use the keyboard to turn the harpoon and you'll see three houses down below right by the water. These are your three building targets.

STEP 5: Use Attack #1 and aim the green cursor at the RED ROOF of the house you want to destroy and fire. If you hit the house anywhere else it may not give you credit.

STEP 6: Everytime you destroy a house Dragonflayer Defenders will spawn. Kill them by targeting them and using Attack #2.

Sometimes a crowd of players may form waiting for you to finish up harpooning because only one person can use it at a time. You can get around this by inviting them to a group, you will all get quest credit.

There is only one followup after this quest, to my knowledge, with no rewards. Not worth the effort to do this quest if you can't make the gun work for whatever reason, abandon it and move along.

Just aim at the roofs to the 3 buildings using your #1 attack. There's NO bug and NO Interference with addons. You have to aim and hit the roofs. Then use your #2 on the Dragonflayer Defenders as they will spawn after the alarms are sounded when a buildings are destroyed. The 3 buildings are right in this screenshot I took.

For those who can not see the houses, it is because they didnt set their view distence to be the highest one.

From Lieutenant Icehammer, walk south along the cliff. Climb on the first harpoon you come across in Nifflevar, and raise your video setting "view distance" to high. Look down over the cliff across the water at the village you were questing in earlier, Wyrmskull Village.

Use button 1 to destory the buildings, button 2 to kill the flying defenders that come after you destroy the buildings. To destroy the buildings, aim for the top or roof, or you won't get credit. Aiming at the base of the buildings does you no good. 1 harpoon (button 2) will kill a defender.

Is correct guys! The addons actually can cause the quest not to qork properly.

Once you get control of the harpoon, if you do not have addons like: bartender (action bars) you wil see that a console will appear instead of your normal action bar. That is intended for you to use when operating a weapon, vehicle or the like.

WARNING: Do not die using cannon at 64.54. You will need to run from Valgarde *all the way* back to cannons. Why did I die? A roamer was hitting me from behind while I was shooting the guys on dragons. As soon as I jumped off the cannon to attack, the dragons target the player and each hit was for over 600hp x 5 dragons.

So if you start to get hit from behind, don't jump off cannon and try to finish quest.

I am very surprised that this was not thought out better in regards to cemeteries.

Use your left mouse button. I tried to fire missiles using my right mouse button and it failed to do anything. Also as said before, disabling all your addons might be a good idea if you cant get it to work and aim for the (red) roof of the buildings.

centain players please understand you may need to open a gm ticket, on certain serves it is broke, i play on a pvp and pve, the pve was broken. so understand there may be an issue.

If you are grouped with someone that is also on this quest, you will get full experience from killing the Dragon Riders. With rested xp and the +10% exp shoulders, I was getting over 1700 experience per kill and I was able to kill at least 20 of them per minute. You can easily grind over a million xp per hour this way.

For me, I have to say that I found this quest to be profoundly annoying and had to dump it. I was able to "mount" either gun but at no point could I see anything to actually target. Just a lot of empty sky. A perfect example of all that is annoying about this game. My suggestion: Don't even bother.

I can verify that there is an addon(s) that do not allow the player to fire the harpoons. I didn't go through and individually disable each addon to test which one was causing this, but I tried countless times to fire the harpoon exactly as instructed but no matter what, the harpoon simply would not fire.

After about five minutes of trying everything else, I logged out and disabled every addon. I logged back in and whadduya know - Working as intended.

I just tried today.. I did all that was said to do... disabled my addons and set video distance to high. I climb into the unit, point towards one of the roofs and set target (action 1) and fire (action 2). When i fire, i get a message "Target must be in front of you" and the harpoon does not fire.

I know that I am setting the green AoE target thingy over the correct part of the roof.

I don't know what else to do.

The harpoon has the longest range I've seen on... anything. With terrain distance turned all the way up, I was able to launch harpoons as far as Skorn.

It will pull aggro, too. I hit a Vrykul behind me, and it came... oddly, before it reached me, something popped me high in the air, over the building beside me, and on the other side; needless to say, I died from the fall.

Edit: Oh, I see. There's a time limit on how long you can control the harpoon, and I passed it...

*chuckle* if you plan on doing this quest, or the series, make sure the weather's good. There was a fog down below and I could only target the largest house and just barely at that.

Edit: okay, 3 weeks later I find out you can adjust the weather controls under the video settings. Unfortunely all my settings were on low anyway because of a not so fast computer. I actually had to turn all my video settings up first and then I left the weather down. I turned them all the way up first but even a small increase made a big enough difference. Wow, what you don't realize you're missing! (must... start... saving...for... upgrade)

If there are any UI Addon bugs, I didn't have them. Here are my add-ons:

The only noteable "bug" is that QH doesn't show where to fire the harpoons at, instead all the icons are cluttered by the harpoon guns you gotta fire FROM!

If you use any of those add-ons, then it's not an add-on problem, you're just not aiming right ;)

Aim at the roofs, with the center dot of the AoE circle on the peaks, and you should get a hit everytime. Once you do, the dragon riders will spawn directly in front of you (Or maybe they fly from the distance, I couldn't tell being I had draw distance down still). One-shot-kills using action #2 in the harpoon gun, and one-shot-kills on the buildings using action #1.

Took me forever to figure out what was going on with this quest, though. I started firing at the village the harpoon guns were stationed on, then I read the Quest Log a little closer and couldn't find the buildings to destroy...till I turned up my damn draw distance and took a glance across the river/lake. (/facepalm)

Just wanted to confirm that my add-ons prevented me from finishing the quest on 6/24/2009. I run a standard set of Curse add-ons, and Wowecon. With my add-ons on I could not destroy the Longhouse, although all the other buildings registered. I'm very thankful for the postings here, turning off my add-ons would not have occured to me otherwise.

This harpoon gun is powerful! It seems to have the same ranged targeting mechanics as eagle eye or far sight. If you can mouse over terrain or a building, you can fire it, no matter the distance. Fun to bomb the Horde towns off to the far southeast, though I have no idea if it would actually hurt anyone.

I hate this quest..... There seems to always be fog which makes it impossible to SEE the Storage Facility! Errrrrrrr!

Edit: Ok, so I followed the advice from someone who previously posted and upped all of my video settings and lowered the weather settings completely. It made a HUGE difference.... I need a new computer.... /sigh

Ok, I can confirm that it absolutly does not like ICE Hud. In addition, you have to double click the target to launch the harpoon for destroying the buildings. The elevation setting doesn't seem to effect thigns other than perhaps how long it takes the harpoon to hit. Big deal.

Weird thing happened today when i was doing this quest, I destroyed the longhouse building, and then my guy suddenly got popped high into the air... with no parachute, and I died brutally on impact with the grass, just short of the water. I have no idea why I got evacuated from the turret, but the result wasn't pretty.

I absolutely hate this quest. I've tried it several times with UI addons turned on and off. I've logged and quit and logged again and still no results. Please drop some helpful tips for those of you who may have had the same problem.

I hope this comment helps. Do not fire at the houses that are close to you. Turn your gun around and aim at the tiny houses that are way way across the river from you. They are way out in the distance and aim for the roofs. Don't ask how many times I tried this quest by firing at the wrong buildings.

Something very important.
The harpoon has a timer, which shows up on your buffs.
If the timer is out and you are still on the harpoon, it will eject you into the sky and you will fall to the cliff, gurantee a death unless you have some sort of slow fall thing and you react quickly.
Dismount before the timer expires if you have not completed it yet, then mount it again.

This quest took me a minute. Its tricky and finicky.

I wasn't able to get it with the right harpoon.

Simply put: Use the left turret gun.
Shoot the left house - aim for the window.
Shoot the middle house - aim for the window here too.
Shoot the left house - aim for the lower red roof.

Double "left" click on target (1 for buildings, 2 for dragon mounted defenders), wait takes time to fire. Too fast and it looks like the gun fires, but it just drops.

Confirmed. Once disabling my addons, this worked. I aimed at the roof, and nothing happened. Once I disabled my addons, it worked. Nice and easy. Thanks :)

Even after reading all the other comments I needed help to fire the gun to destroy the buildings, so here's a different way of explaining it:

-left click on the #1 icon
-mouse cursor turns into a blue hand
-as you move the mouse, a green targetting circle appears
-place centre of green targetting circle on peak of building roof
-double left click with mouse (keeping targetting circle on building)
-fiery harpoon soars through the air and hits the house, setting it on fire!

To kill the mounted riders, simple target as usual and click on button 2.

It's fun! :)

Make sure you aim high on to the buildings. Don't fiddle around with what looks like a good aim to you...just aim high at the roofs and you'll get it. :)

Use the token from the quest giver when you're next to one of the harpoons. This will seat you in the mechanisim. Your targets are the builds on the far shore next to the river. As previously stated, make certain the green bullseye is on the roof of the building. To get the green bullseye, click the fiery harpoon button. Once a building is destroyed you will be attacked by dragon riders. Target them like normal with your sword (mouse pointer) and then fire the other harpon (one shot = one kill). Repeat for each building.

even really the post here (always very helpful), but it one is a bit complicate on the whole environment. We need to fight, guess what need to shoot, and also has ppl to put our legs. It would be soloing, but personal playing experience not good. May be drop it, reward not attractive at lot once you complete Borean. EXP not really too much, it only about 15-20 mobs after resting.

My video settings are fine ... was able to kill all the defenders, no problem, destroyed all the buildings but one - just can't get the boathouse targeted for some reason! Any suggestions?

I got killed the first time I tried this quest because mobs from the building (which I had killed earlier) were attacking me in addition to the flying stuff. I didn't understand what was happening at first and couldn't use any spells or attacks until I learned that you have to dismount the big gun to fight any mobs from the building. Once I got that figured out, I was able to complete the quest.

click on 1st button then aim green target onto roof and left click TWICE to get harpoon to shoot. then click on defenders to target then click on the 2nd button. Took me ages to figure out!

If you're having trouble getting the harpoon to fire, try disabling your add-ons first. I had this problem until I disabled Questhelper.

If you solo this quest, you get about 20xp for each defender. When grouped though, you get about 360xp for each one.
Some people appear to be monopolizing the harpoons for hours.

Horrible quest design. Defenders arrive when you destroy a house. House won't get destroyed unless you target the ROOFS and absolutely nothing tells you do do that. I wasted 5+ mins without getting anywhere and then came here to read comments...

My quest got stuck on 7/8 defenders, didn't know what was happening so i unmounted the harpoon gun and killed one of the vrykul inside the building, that completed the quest.

Lieutenant Icehammer in the Howling Fjord wants you to destroy the Dragonflayer Longhouse, Dragonflayer Dockhouse, Dragonflayer Storage Facility and 8 Dragonflayer Defenders.

Return the Harpoon Control Mechanism to him once the task is complete.

We must strike while the vrykul forces are in disarray! Take the harpoon control mechanism to Nifflevar and locate the northernmost harpoon building on the bluff side of the village.

Once there, commandeer one of the vrykul harpoon guns that are stationed on the building's deck. Use the harpoon gun to rain hell upon Wyrmskull Village! Destroy the longhouse, dockhouse, storage facility and any defenders that the vrykul may send at you!

Do this and Daggercap Bay will become a much safer port!
