In phase one, tanks will focus on controlling the Unstoppable Abomination that come towards the center. These can be stunned and killed, but still have the potential to kill non-tank players pretty easily if given the chance.

Phase two will require one tank for Kel'Thuzad. Kel'Thuzad should be moved towards the center of the room to give the ranged damage dealers and healers more room to spread around the boss.

When the Guardian of Icecrown spawn it is best to have a second tank to pick them up and hold them until the fight is over.

Tips for Melee on Kel'Thuzad

In phase one melee damage dealers will focus on killing the Unstoppable Abomination that attack the raid. These can and should be stunned as much as possible to prevent them from being a threat to the raid at all.

In phase two melee will need careful positioning in either two or three tight stacks around the boss to minimize the number of players hit by a potential Frost Blast.

If you have a spell interrupt like Kick you should use it to interrupt Frostbolt whenever you can. In order to prevent all the Frostbolts, you'll need at least two players alternating interrupts.

Tips for Ranged on Kel'Thuzad

In phase one ranged damage dealers priorities are the small Soldier of the Frozen Wastes and the large Soul Weaver. Both of these enemy types need to be killed before they reach the raid in the center of the room.

In phase two ranged should spread out around the room at least 10 yards away from each other to minimize the effect of Kel'Thuzad's various AoE abilities.

When Kel'Thuzad uses Chains of Kel'Thuzad to mind control players, anyone with any crowd control ability should quickly use it to disable the mind controlled players. Sheeps, fears, stuns, or cyclones are all great to use on mind controlled players.

Tips for Healers on Kel'Thuzad

Not too much should happen in a well-executed phase one of this encounter for a healer. The action comes when ranged damage dealers fail to kill a skeleton or ghost before it reaches the raid, causing a big explosion of damage. There will also be some damage on the tanks or overeager melee damage dealers that pull threat from the abomination enemies.

In phase two healers and ranged damage dealers should spread out around the room at least 10 yards away from each other to minimize the effect of Kel'Thuzad's various AoE abilities. Healers in particular will need to make sure they are in positions that give them sufficient range to heal everyone they need to.

There will be frequent raid damage from the Frostbolt volley attack used by Kel'Thuzad that will need to be healed.

The tanks can take big damage spikes when a single-target Frostbolt is not interrupted, so look out for that.

The main scary damage spike comes from Frost Blast. When this hits a single player (usually ranged or healers), it is not so bad. That player will need healing within 4 seconds or else they will die, because this spell deals 104% of their maximum health in damage over it's duration. When Frost Blast goes on multiple players at once (usually stacks of melee), you'll have a bit more of an emergency with multiple players needing significant healing in a very small time frame.

Kel'Thuzad Abilities for Naxxramas in Wrath of the Lich King ClassicAbility

Description

Frostbolt

This is one of Kel'Thuzad's two different Frostbolt attacks. This one is an instant cast Frostbolt Volley effect that will hit every player in the raid for around 7000 to 8000 frost damage.

Frostbolt

This is the second of Kel'Thuzad's two different Frostbolt attacks. This one is a 2 second cast time used only on the main tank. It deals massive damage and can be interrupted.

Shadow Fissure

Shadow Fissures will be cast on random raid members by Kel'Thuzad. A swirling red circle will appear beneath the player's feet and they have a few seconds to move out before the fissure explodes with Void Blast dealing around 100000 shadow damage killing anyone in it.

Detonate Mana

Mana Detonation will be cast on players who have mana. It places a 5 second debuff on the player and when it expires, they lose mana and also explode for some damage to the players around them with Mana Detonation.

Frost Blast

Frost Blast, also sometimes referred to as "Chain Frost" is a very dangerous ability from Kel'Thuzad. It will target a random raid member and afflict that target as well as any players within 10 yards of that target. All players hit by this spell are stunned for 5 seconds and will take 4 instances of damage over those 5 seconds, each equal to 26% of their maximum health. Without immediate healing, they will die.

Chains of Kel'Thuzad

Chains of Kel'Thuzad is a mind control ability used by Kel'Thuzad. It can target up to two players at the same time. The targets are mind controlled for 20 seconds and have their damage and healing output increased, making them especially dangerous. These players do not gain any special crowd control immunities and can be stunned, feared, polymorphed, or otherwise disabled.

Summon Guardian of Icecrown

Upon reaching about 40% health, Kel'Thuzad will call upon the Lich King for aid. The Lich King will sent multiple Guardian of Icecrown through the icy portals in the cubbies around the room. These are giant nerubian melee attackers that will gain a stacking buff Blood Tap that increases their damage dealt.
