Ferocity

This is a mandatory talent for both Feral DPS and Feral tanking, as neither role can function without reduced resource costs on the spec's core abilities.

Feral Aggression

This talent provides extremely low DPS value to a Feral Druid, since Ferocious Bite is hardly ever cast in the level 80 rotation.

Feral Instinct

Due to the introduction of Swipe (Cat) into the Feral toolkit in WotLK, this talent is no longer exclusively useful for bear tanking, and becomes a mandatory DPS talent as well.

Savage Fury

Rake has been significantly buffed in WotLK and is now the strongest Combo Point generator for cats, so the Savage Fury talent is a lot more important for the PvE rotation than it was in TBC.

Thick Hide

This talent remains one of the most efficient sources of mitigation in the Feral tree, and should be prioritized in hybrid off-tanking builds such as the second build presented in this guide.

Feral Swiftness

The 30% movement speed increase in Cat Form provided by this talent now applies indoors, which is a huge utility boost in PvE dungeons and raids (which are mostly indoors) and removes the requirement for a movement speed boosting enchant or meta gem in Feral DPS gear sets.

Survival Instincts

WotLK gives Feral Druids their own version of the Warrior Last Stand defensive cooldown, which should be talented even in pure DPS builds since it allows the player to completely ignore certain raid mechanics for increased DPS uptime.

Sharpened Claws

Mandatory PvE talent that provides a significant DPS/TPS boost to Feral cats/bears.

Shredding Attacks

This talent is non-negotiable for any DPS or off-tanking build, as the Feral DPS rotation cannot even be executed without it.

Predatory Strikes

Another mandatory PvE talent which provides a flat 120 Attack Power boost to Feral Druids in Cat Form or Dire Bear Form, and also scales the Attack Power contribution from your equipped weapon by 120%. In PvP, this talent is particularly powerful because it also gives finishing moves the ability to proc a Nature's Swiftness effect, allowing the Feral Druid to fire off an instant cast Cyclone or Entangling Roots at opportune moments.

Primal Fury

This talent is valuable for cat DPS because it accelerates the rate at which Combo Points can be generated, making it much easier to maintain the Savage Roar buff and Rip debuff at high uptime.

Primal Precision

Free source of Expertise, but more importantly, makes Rip and Ferocious Bite misses far less punishing, since the Energy refund allows for a second finisher attempt as soon as the GCD expires.

Brutal Impact

This is a great PvP talent that should be taken in any PvP focused build, but it is omitted in a PvE optimized build.

Feral Charge

Charge is a core part of the Feral Druid toolkit both in PvP and PvE, so there is no reason to ever pass it over.

Nurturing Instinct

In a PvP or solo leveling setting, this talent is invaluable because it provides the Druid with quite significant healing output even when wearing melee DPS gear. Unfortunately, it cannot be accommodated in endgame PvE builds without giving up critical DPS or utility talents.

Natural Reaction

Hefty avoidance boost when tanking that is particularly valuable because it is not subject to diminishing returns, unlike Dodge from gear. The talent's secondary effect of regenerating Rage when you dodge is also a nice quality of life benefit when tanking trash mobs, as dodges will be quite frequent in AoE tanking scenarios. Nevertheless, this talent is less efficient for boosting tank survival than Thick Hide, so it can be omitted in hybrid off-tanking builds where giving up too many cat DPS talents is detrimental.

Heart of the Wild

This is a mandatory talent that is one of the core foundations of the Feral tree, providing significant buffs to Druids in every form.

Survival of the Fittest

Another essential DPS talent that provides a straight buff to all stats. For off-tanks, this talent is especially important, as the 6% crit reduction it provides makes you uncrittable by raid bosses even when tanking in DPS gear without any Defense Rating or Resilience Rating on it.

Leader of the Pack

The 5% Crit buff provided by Feral Druids is now raid-wide rather than restricted to a single party, and its range has been buffed from 45 yards to 100 yards. However, an identical buff is now provided by Fury Warriors (Rampage), and the two effects do not stack.

Improved Leader of the Pack

The one truly unique raid buff brought by Feral Druids, providing periodic healing to all physical DPS in the raid. The value of this talent can be highly variable depending on your raid composition and the raid damage profile of a given encounter, but it is recommended to talent it by default in most builds.

Primal Tenacity

This talent is important for any PvP focused Feral build, providing mitigation against two of the scariest forms of crowd control you will encounter. In a raid setting, it is a nice-to-have talent but cannot fit into optimized PvE builds without giving up more important DPS or utility talents.

Protector of the Pack

Hybrid Threat + mitigation talent that simultaneously increases your DPS/TPS output and substantially reduces incoming damage when tanking. Importantly, the 12% damage reduction applies not only to physical attacks but also to incoming spell casts, which become an increasingly large fraction of the total burst damage output from raid bosses as the expansion progresses. Quite interestingly, this talent is optimal to take even in a pure DPS build, since you will be spending a significant fraction of your DPS time weaving into Dire Bear Form while waiting on Energy to regenerate.

Predatory Instincts

High impact DPS talent that increases the critical damage multiplier for all Cat Form attacks from 2 to 2.2.

Infected Wounds

New attack speed and movement speed debuff that can be passively applied when attacking a target. This talent is typically skipped in PvE builds since the same attack speed debuff can be applied by Warriors (Improved Thunder Clap), Protection Paladins (Judgements of the Just), and Death Knights (Improved Icy Touch), but it is invaluable in a PvP setting.

King of the Jungle

Another core foundational talent for the WotLK DPS rotation, turning Tiger's Fury into an Energy regeneration cooldown that takes the place of vanilla/TBC powershifting gameplay.

Mangle

Powerful debuff that boosts your Rake, Shred, and Rip damage by 30%, and also buffs your Maul and Lacerate damage by 30% when bearweaving. Prioritize refreshing Mangle when it falls off, as it also boosts the DPS of other raid members who deal bleed damage as part of their rotation. If your raid also has an Arms Warrior, however, then they will keep up the equivalent Trauma debuff for you passively. For situations where you are forced to attack from the front while mobs are being positioned, then Mangle (Cat) should be used in place of Shred as your staple filler ability for Combo Point generation.

Improved Mangle

New talent that further lowers the Energy cost of Mangle (Cat). Very low impact in PvE since Mangle (Cat) is cast only once per minute due to its much longer debuff duration in WotLK.

Rend and Tear

Hugely impactful talent that provides a whopping 20% buff to your Shred damage.

Primal Gore

Another big deal talent that further inflates the already insane Damage Per Energy (DPE) of Rip by allowing your Rip ticks to critically strike.

Berserk

Powerful offensive cooldown that functions analogously to the Rogue Adrenaline Rush ability. Partially offsets the loss of powershifting in WotLK by providing the player with temporary periods of GCD-locked gameplay.

Restoration Tree Talents

Improved Mark of the Wild

In WotLK, this talent has been collapsed down from 5 to 2 talent points, and now also boosts all attributes by 2% (stacking multiplicatively with the 6% boost from Survival of the Fittest). These changes make Improved Mark of the Wild worth talenting in any WotLK Feral build.

Furor

In WotLK, this talent was reworked to no longer restore Energy when shifting into Cat Form, and instead just allows the Druid to retain a fraction of their Energy pool when shapeshifting. This is a massive nerf to the talent and singlehandedly kills the powershifting gameplay that defined Feral DPS in vanilla and TBC. Nevertheless, maxing out the Furor talent is still optimal for pure DPS builds because it improves the efficiency of bearweaving, allowing you to cast more special abilities in Dire Bear Form without capping out on Energy gains.

Naturalist

This is another essential talent for both DPS and tanking. A 10% total damage boost is one of the single biggest performance boosts available to Feral Druids, making Naturalist one of the very best talents in the entire Druid talent tree. The damage boost scales with all of the stat boost talents in the Feral tree, as well as with all raid buffs that boost your damage output.

Natural Shapeshifter

This talent is not critical for PvE DPS on its own, since the removal of powershifting in WotLK means that you will be expending far less Mana as part of the DPS rotation than in prior expansions. However, it should be talented in most Feral builds anyway in order to unlock the much better Master Shapeshifter talent. Note that the 30% Mana cost reduction on shapeshifts from this talent stacks additively with the 60% reduction from King of the Jungle, making it essentially free to shift between forms when bearweaving or off-tanking.

Intensity

Similar to Natural Shapeshifter, Intensity is also no longer important as a sustainability tool for the Feral DPS rotation due to the removal of powershifting in WotLK, and is not worth talenting in the majority of builds.

Omen of Clarity

The removal of powershifting makes this talent far more critical for Feral DPS than it was in vanilla WoW and TBC, since the DPS rotation is now Energy-limited and each Clearcasting proc is worth 42 Energy in value when spent on a free Shred cast. Note that Clearcasting can no longer proc from special abilities in Cat Form, but its proc rate from auto-attacks in Cat Form has been more than doubled to compensate.

Master Shapeshifter

The final Restoration talent worth taking in most Feral DPS and tanking builds. This talent is especially lucrative when bearweaving or playing a hybrid off-tank role, as it boosts your damage output both in Cat Form and in Dire Bear Form.

Glyphs for Feral Druid DPS in Wrath of the Lich KingMajor Glyphs

Glyph of Shred

Causes each Shred hit to add 1 additional Rip tick, up to a maximum of 3. This is by far your most valuable Glyph for single target DPS, as it not only significantly boosts the Damage Per Energy (DPE) efficiency of Rip, but also makes it much easier not to lose Rip uptime while keeping up Savage Roar.

Glyph of Rip

Adds 2 additional bleed ticks from each Rip cast. Stacks with Glyph of Shred, resulting in a whopping 10 second extension to the base Rip duration of 12 seconds, and boosting the Attack Power scaling of Rip from 30% to 55%.

Glyph of Savage Roar

Makes your Savage Roar 10% more effective, boosting its damage multiplier from 1.3 to 1.33. This should be your default third Glyph to use on most single target fights.

Glyph of Berserk

For very short fight lengths, Glyph of Berserk will outperform Glyph of Savage Roar, so it can be swapped into the third Glyph slot if you want to min-max your damage on specific encounters.

Glyph of Maul

On trash fights or multi-target boss encounters, you will want to use Glyph of Maul even as a pure DPS player for min-maxing your cleave damage. The Glyph not only doubles your Maul damage when bearweaving, but also doubles your chance of obtaining a Clearcasting proc from each Maul, allowing you to return to Cat Form sooner and pump out additional Swipe (Cat) casts for free.

Minor Glyphs

Glyph of the Wild

Unlike the other Minor Glyphs, which are completely optional, Glyph of the Wild is mandatory for min-maxing your damage output as a Feral Druid. In WotLK, Gift of the Wild can proc Omen of Clarity at a rate that scales with the number of targets buffed by the spell. As a result, casting Gift of the Wild in a 25-man raid group will nearly guarantee a Clearcasting proc, so you will be doing it very often and will need the Glyph in order to sustain this tactic.

Glyph of Dash

Reduces the cooldown of Dash by 36 seconds, which can be situationally useful in PvE but will be most noticeable in PvP and when farming.

Glyph of Unburdened Rebirth

Pure quality of life boost that saves you from needing to carry around Starleaf Seeds anymore.
