At level 20, Alliance characters train poisons with a quest from the SI-7 operatives in the Stormwind Barracks. Horde characters can get this quest by speaking with the rogue trainer in the Cleft of Shadows in Orgrimmar. Note that in order to complete the quest, you need to have around 85-90 skill in lockpicking. I would suggest getting it up to 100 before giving the quest a whirl.

I figured I'd write a thorough quest description for alliance rogues .. so here goes!

1) Get the quest "Mathias and the Defias" from "Master Mathias Shaw" at SI:7 in Stormwind City (75,59)

2) Travel to Westfall. Head to the tower in the south east corner. Just north of the tower you'll find Agent Kearnen hidden (68,71). She will give you the quest "Klaven's Tower".

3) Next you'll need to grab the key from the "Malformed Defias Drone" roaming around the tower. As I didnt have distract at the time of doing this (was only lvl 20) I found the only way I could do it was to wait till he turns around down by the campfire near the water. You have a split second to pick pocket him. If you fail, just gouge him, run out of range and try again.

4) Next head to the top of tower. You can do this without aggroing any mobs if you just have a little patience. When you get to the top, sap "Klaven Mortwake", open chest (requires lockpicking - I had 100 in skill) and get out of there fast. After opening the chest you'll have a debuff on you called "Touch of Zanzil" which will be dealth with later on.

Zanzil's poisonous debuff can also be taken care of with a Anti-Venom that can be made with first aid.

Do your self a favor, and approach Klaven -only- from behind. He'll let you know if he can 'see' you before attacking. Let him reset, and sap him then, approaching only from behind.

Poisons....paying for them and reapplying them before every single BG makes rogues cry, but without them many builds take a big hit in their sensitive regions when it comes to DPS and survivability. You need wound poison to beat healers and crippling poison to beat kiters....just be sure to pickpocket often to help pay for their reagent costs.

On the bright side they don't cost as much as blind : )

I was having some problems trying to get all the way up into the tower, since one of the mobs was bugged. Nevertheless I've found an easy way to make it a hell lot easier. Get in the tower and die on purpose. Then run into the tower (as a ghost ofcourse) and go all the way to the top. "resurrect: accept.." Stealth, sap the wanker, picklock the box and run for your life :p

Total noobish question, but I was wondering how one actually *learns* new potions. I've got the instant and crippling poisons that I got when I first got the ability, but no clue how to get more. New to rogues, so forgive my ignorance ^^u

I found it anoying that there was no lead-up quest for Night Elves, like for lockpicking. I had no idea where to go to get poison until I looked it up. I know it's kinda petty, but I should be able to know where I'm supposted to go for my big level 20 skill from ingame stuff.

Your class-trainer sends you to Orgrimmar, to roguetrainer Shenthul in the Cleft of Shadows. ( I think that guest is called "Find the Shattered Hand").
He gives you "Deep Cover". This special rogueguest gives you poisons. Succes, because you need to be at least lvl 22, and have lockpicking 90...

alright im lvl 25 rouge dwarf and this is where you get poisons you go to S:17 and you talk to a guy in the building that a guy is standing right out of and then you go to Westfall by tower in the south and you have to find a girl in stealh by a tree then talk to her and complete the quest and go back to Stormwind if youd like or do the quest she gives you and there you go

Ok this is how it works to get your poisons skill up. Say your lvl 30 and have 150/150 skill. Once you lvl to 31 your skill in poisons becomes 150/155. Then when you lvl again it becomes 150/160 and so on. Every time you lvl your skill in poisons raises 5 max skill points. So at lvl 60 you should have about like 300/300 max points (I think it was 300, not sure lol).

Even though my toon is a lvl 20 Rogue and I pick-pocketed the key I could not open the locked chest. I increased my lock-picking skill to 100 and then I could unlock the chest. Got poisoned. Turned my quest in and visited the doc in the basement of SI7. Completed his quest for a cure "The Touch of Zanzil" and he gave me "Eau de Mixilpixil". Drank it and was cured! No more 7-day sickness. Plus I was awarded 1,150 XP!

So, recap: Get quest, pick-pocket key (you need this to turn in the quest), stealth up tower and SAP the guy to buy yourself some time, pick the lock and get contents. You'll be poisoned so you can't stealth again. Use Sprint to get out quick. Turn in quest, visit doc in basement, completed his quest and drink elixir he gives you. Get cured and get 1150 XP! Oh, I almost forgot, you'll automatically learn Poisons (lvl 1) after being cured. So, go the the Rogue trainer and get your first poison training.

Rogues on the alliance side, at level twenty you can get a quest from the leader of Sl:7- he's in old town in Stormwind, where the trainers are; Upstairs. He gives you a quest to find a hidden lady in Westfall, she is at 68,70 by some trees near the river bordering duskwood. She gives you a quest for a key and a book, first you need the key.

Wait there by the tower for a spawn called, "Malformed defias drone" to pop. You cant kill him, he does about 200 dmg a hit, so sap him and pickpocket him for the key. Then sneak up the tower, get to the top level, kill the named mob there and lockpick the chest for the book. You need at least 70 skill. Once you have both, go back to Sl:7, turnin the quest. He sends you downstairs to a crazy doc who talks to a statue and a squirrel.

Okay, now you just have to get the reagents, which you can easily find on THOTTBOT! Come back, turnin and your poisoning is cured. Now go back upstairs to the trainer to learn POISONS from the trainer and there you are! I did this all at level 20, no help. Easy as pie.

I am at Lvl 64... I know...an idiot.. never got poison, and now I don;t get a quest from Mathias Shaw. How else do I get the quest to get poison?

If you open the lock box before you steal the key from the guy outside, then as said above by others, you get poisoned and can't finish the quest. But the 7 Day poison is just a regular poison and can be removed by most healing classes or if you know first aid, select your self and us an anti-venom.

So I missed the quest and am now lvl 28. I cannot get the quest from Shen anymore? GM says it should be available but it is not.

What should I do? Is a rogue worth anythin without poison.
Or should I stop wasting my time worrying about it?

Im lvl 45. I can get the poison quest but in can never get the flare gun that I need to use. I've tried dropping the quest and starting it over but I still can never get the flare gun. Anyone have any clues?

i am now level 56 gnome rogue and i did quest on level 20 u know i stealthed in the tower in westfall to the upside sapped the guy (elite i thaught he was) and picklocked the toolbox to complete the quest and then i just sprinted downstairs and ran to the water and used FA on me but hie was a hard quest you just need to know that

just done this at level 20, 1st go to SW in old town SI:7 section, quest giver up some stairs, then head to Westfall to the stealthed elf next to the tree to hand in quest, she gives you a quest to get a key and book, stealth, sap & pickpocket level 23 Malformed Defias Drone, Then head to the tower stealth all the way up to the top of tower dodging patrol, when your up the top of the tower there you'll met Klaven Mortwake, he said to me "i can smell the fear on you Rogue" kill him unlock chest on ground at this point you will have a 7day poison on you, i decided to hearthstone stone out of tower as quest hand in is back at SW, easy to do at level 20:)

If you get the "Touch of Zanzil" before you pickpocket the key to the tower, use anti-venom and this will remove the curse. You can then go back and pickpocket the key and turn-in the quest.

A few quick facts about the poison skill:

1. You cannot create poisons without becoming unstealthed.

2. You can apply poisons to your weapons while stealthed.

3. Your maximum poison lvl you can train to increases when you ding a new lvl.

4. Some poisons are better for pvp and some are better for pve.
Ex. Crippling Poison is very awesome in pvp while it is rarely needed in pve.

5. You train new poisons at your regular rogue trainer, and you can buy mats to make poisons from Shady Dealers.

6. You can learn the poisons skill at lvl 20 from the quest called "Mathias and the Defias" (Alliance) or "Deep Cover" (Horde)

It just keeps amusing me how no1 reads the above posts... the help on how to get and complete the prequisite quest for poisons have been posted in like fifth post and on every second post after that and the rest of the posts are"WHERE TO GET POISON SKILL"
kinda makes me feel sad...Should there be some kind of IQ or age requirement for this game

ok, here goes...i JUST finished the ALLIANCE quest for Ravenhold..my poison skill (using Crippling and Instant Poisons) is at 72. so where and/or when do i learn more? the highest my skill goes is 120..do i have to make that benchmark first? considering that there are recipes i can learn starting at skill lvl24 (thank you AcksisRecipeList!) it just seems a waste of time.

can someone on the Alliance side get us all the Profession progress for poisons?

This is not working for me. The only q im getting from Shenthul is Mission: Possible but not Probable... readed up there that the rogue trainer would give me the q but he didnt.

I think i got "Find the Shattered Hand" but then he gave me Mission: Possible but not Probable...

I finished the Horde rogue poison quest - did the turn in and got the next quest (Hinott's Assistance in Hillsbrad) but no new tab showed up on my skill book as I was expecting. Also, I cannot train in any of the poisons at the rogue trainers - the poison skills still show up in red. I'm level 28.

Once the quest is finished, is there some additional step required to actually start brewing and using poisons?

Or should poison now show up as a tab in my skill book? In which case, this seems like a bug...

BTW, just adding this, but if you have Burning Crusade, head to Ghostlands's Zeb'Nowa. There are a LOT of chests that should get you right through to 80 Lockpicking.

Here is how you learn to make poisons for the alliance side.

First talk to master mathias shaw in stormwind after you hit level 20. He will give you the quest Mathias and the Defias.

Fly to sentinel hill. From there, head southeast until you find Agent Kearnen. She looks like a ghost, but she's just in stealth mode. She will give you the next link in the quest, Klaven's Tower.

Now comes the hard part. For this you will need a book and a key. It is important that you do this in the order that I say. Key first and then book. The key is pickpocketed off of the Malformed Defias Drone. It has spiky hair and patrols the backside of the tower (outside). I had an incredibly hard time picking his pocket and actually getting the key because he keeps moving. What you need to do is go into your interface options and check "auto looting." This will ensure that when you pick his pocket, you get the item immediately. Do not attempt to fight him. If you succeed in killing him, you won't get the key from him. At least, I don't think you will. He crits for 300. I wouldn't suggest fighting him anyways. Just pick his pocket and be on your way.

The next part is annoying as well. For this part you need to go inside the tower, to the top. There are two or three sets of guards inside the tower that walk around. They CAN be completely avoided at level 20 if you wait long enough. If they see you, no big deal. Run back as a ghost, and run all the way up to the top and rez aggro free.

At the top, there is an elite, level 23 or 22. Near him there is a chest which must be picked. It was orange for me at level 80 lockpicking. I'm assuming that's the lowest you can do it at, but I could be wrong. What you do is sap the elite and then pick the chest. The reason you need to get the key first is that when you open the chest, you get a seven day duration poison that persists through death. This poison does two things. It makes the mobs at the tower able to see through your stealth, and it lowers your agility by like 15. So you'll want to get a cleanse from a priest or something after you finish this quest.

After you have the book, get out of there as fast as you can and get back to stormwind. Turn the quest in at Master Mathias Shaw, and you will learn poisons. He will send you on an additional quest down to the cellar to see a gnome, but it doesn't matter. Go train crippling poisons at your rogue trainer, and then find a shady vendor and start brewing your poisons. Hooray!

I just completed this quest aliance and got my "poison" skill. You go to Stormwind city and talk with Methias Shaw in SI-7. He gives you the "Mathias and the Defias" quest. This is the only quest you need to get the poison skill.

1. travel to westfall past Sentinal Hill traveling east toward duskwood. Just before the bridge turn right and go along the bank until you see Agent Kearmen on your mini map or see Kearman jump down from a tree in stealth mode. Speaking to Agent Kearman completes this part of the quest.

2.The book you receive gives you a hint to the MOPs weakness (backstab) but doesn't apply to the spiked hair guy so don't try. You will die, he hits over 100 a pop. Just stealth up behind him and pick pocket the "key." The key is a quest item and is not used again. If you get the book first you will not be able to stealth anywhere near this guy without him going agro and killing you.

3. Now stealth into the tower and you should be able to avoid all the mops as you climb to the top floor. On the top floor is one MOP..elite but his back is to you so stealth up behind and SAP him. Then turn to the chest that is to his left and use lock picking skills to open it. Grab the book inside.

4. You will be poisoned when you open the chest but ignore and hit speed, jump down to the main floor, and run out toward the river. Head back to stormwind ( there is a flight path to sentinal hill) and complete the quest with Methias shaw. He will tell you to see a doctor to remove the poison but it isn't necessary to get the poison skill.

5. Use a potion or get someone to "remove" poison and you will be healed.
then go to the rouge trainer and buy your poison skill. Enjoy..

For any of you who are going to check here how to get the quest if you abbandoned it: go see every NPC in the quest chain (which are only two, so that isn't too hard). First check if Master Mathias Shaw in Stormwind City can give you a quest, if not, go check if Agent Kearnen in Westfall can give you a quest. That should solve your problem. If it doesn't, open a ticket to a Game Master and explain you're problem.

You get the Poison ability once you complete the horde "Hinott's Assistance" quest. You just need to talk with him in Tauren Mill. Then go buy your first ingredients and create away.

As far as I remember you start your "Poison-Quest" here (lvl 20)
(Maybe you have to do the Lockpicking Quest first & Maybe its another NPC in Ravenholt)

How do I learn the skill at lvl 39? I didn't know it was a quest item, and dropped the "Mission possible but not probable" quest when it turned gray.

ive done this Quest before, on the horde side, you might want to have a Higher level friend help you, cuz at lvl 20 you wont be able to do it yourself

If you have sufficient first aid skill, make up some anti-venom before you go on the quest.

The anti-venom will remove the Touch of Zanzil.
