These things have a HUGE aggro radius, just as a warning to lower level players.

I was a lvl 10 Night Elf Hunter at the time, and I just rode the boat to theramore. I then ran up the coast next to the turtles, since they are not aggressive. I then made my way between the isles of murlocks. I didnt die once, and it made for a really cool looking pet back in Teldrassil at lvl 10.

I've had this pet as my primary since level 10. He's never let me down - powerful, with good armor, he gets the job done. My only complaint is that he's a little slow.

for ally all u gotta do is boat from auberdine to wetlands, then wetlands to theramore, swim north (only avoiding a couple of threshers and murlocs, i only died once the second time i went, none the first) and keep goin to ratchet. get the flight path in both theramore and ratchet and get on the boat that goes to booty bay. the boat takes you right to the islands before going to the destination, so jump off right next to them. tame ur tiger and hearth home. it took me about 20 minutes to do.

This pet is easy to get at level 10 and will definately set you apart from other hunters. Of course, it is much easier to just make a Troll hunter, but if you want to play a Tauren or Blood Elf, here’s how to get it:
Tauren:
Head towards the Barrens, through Camp Taurajo and to Crossroads. (Be sure to pick up the FP in these two if you haven’t already). There are a few bigger monsters along the way to the Crossroads, but with Track Beast you can avoid them. After Crossroads, you shouldn’t run into anything you can’t handle. Head toward Far Watch Post on the Southfury River, and go ahead across the bridge. Continue along this road East to Razor Hill. Signs along the way should point to Durotar.
Blood Elf:
Take the Trasnlocater in Sunfury Spire in Silvermoon to Undercity. At Undercity, run out of the ruins to the Zeppelin tower and hitch a ride to Ogrimmar. (If you aren’t sure where it is, ask a guard, also, speaking to the Zeppelin Master will tell you which one you need to board) It will set you down just outside of Orgrimmar and from here, you head south to Razor Hill.
Tauren and Blood Elf:
From Razor Hill, continue South. As the road starts to veer off away from the islands (easily visible on your map) go off the road towards the Sen’Jin Village. If you head straight through the village, hop into the ocean and swim toward the islands, you’ll find lots of tigers romping about the island.

I just got my cat last night. I'm a lvl 28 Night Elf Hunter and I also only found out about this cat after creating a troll char. My troll char is lvl 13 now and got the cat at lvl 10. It took me longer then expected to find Durator from Auberdine, but here's how I eventually got there. I boated from Aubertine to the Wetlands, then from there to Theramore. I then swam from Theramore to Rathcet and then swam from Ratchet to Durator where I found the Echo Isles, where the cat is. This isn't the first way I tried to find it, but it's the best way I found to do it. I ended up backtracking a lot when I boated all the way to Booty Bay. After swimming and swimming (and dying a few times too) I never found Durator. Then I met a very kind Dwarf who told me Durator was on the other side of the world! LOL! (Nice job BTW, of taming that cat you got, kind Dwarf!) It took me about three hours to accomplish this task, but then I looked around Booty Bay a while, got flight plans there and at Ratchet, and of course all the unecessary swimming I did. My Troll Hunter char really likes this cat and I am confident that my NE Hunter will also once I get it trained and leveled. Good luck to all who go after this one. He really is very pretty...oh well, that's just a girl thing ya know.

The rout to Durotar listed above is no longer a place for low level characters. The waters north of Theramore are now littered with very high level deviat divers, they will kill you quick.
If you still want to go to Durotar when at level 10-15 and on the alliance side, this is the way I recommend, although long and still very dangerous.
From Auberdine head south all the way to Astranaar in Ashenvale, where you can get a flight point. Keep heading south east (Stay on the path through here!) and soon after you cross the bridge take the first right going toward the Barrens. Now when you get to the gate entering the Barrens there will be high level Horde guards, so you can't get through. BUT, right over to the left of the gate is a wall that has been knocked down and you can sneak through in to the Barrens. OK almost there, now follow the road south and before you get to the town called the Crossroads hang a left toward Durotar. The bridge crossing into Durotar has Horde guard in it too. So hug the mountains and follow them around to the river. Slip past the Crocolisc there and start going south west to Echo Islands.
GOOD LUCK!

Just got one of these as a Dwarf hunter. Here's how I did it (lots of swimming involved):
Get to Stormwind, head south to Goldshire, then west to Westfall. In Westfall, head to the coast - you may need to dodge beasts and Defias on the way. Far south on the coast is best. Once you get to the coast, you'll probably get killed by a murloc (!), but run out as far out into the water as you can before you die. If you do that, you can rez a little further offshore, out of the aggro range of the murlocs.
Start swimming south to Booty Bay. It takes a while, but if you stay away from the coast, you won't aggro anything. It's good to stay close to the "great sea" fatigue zone without actually entering it. Once you hit Booty Bay, you can take a boat to Ratchet. Then, more swimming...
Swim east along the coast until you enter Durotaur. Keep swimming east until you hit the islands, then find yourself a tiger. There's an elite shark between Ratchet and the islands, but I never had it attack me.

I got this pet as a BE, it's easy on horde (duh), but for people on Alliance who are looking to get one (I'm a fan of inter-faction pets, myself), you could just die and run in ghost form to where you need to be, log out and relogin, res at the spirit healer where you need to be, then swim out to the island and get your tiger. I know we don't like taking the durability penalty, but it's better than dying over and over trying to run there alive. I've gotten two pets for my (Horde) characters this way from the other end of the fence (a snow leopard for a BE and some cat from teldrassil for one of my sister's characters), and it works much better than dying over and over and getting frustrated.
But anyways that's just the method I prefer~

I've had many different pets in WoW and this one wins my award for the most /tells. "where did you get that cat?" "can you lead me to one?" etc..
Here are my quick directions:
Get to Darkshore, run from Darkshore to the Barrens. Small tip, when you get close to the barrens you'll see a gate that has a few orc guards posted, run to the left of the gate giving a big enough berth not to get aggro. There you'll see a hole in the gate. Run threw and your in the barrens. That will save you a few deaths from the guards.
Once in the barrens run to Ratchet. At one time you could get on the boat at Ratchet and jump off at Echo Isles(where the cats are) but the ship ports to fast now to be able to jump.
Ok so your in Ratchet, put on your swim suit. Swim over to the southern part of Durotar and watch out for sharks. You'll need to skim the coast along Durotar once you swim there to stay out of the water. Your headed to those small islands that are just SE of Durotar. Keep on the coast until your just east of Echo Isles. Swim over and tame your cat.

On my NE Hunter, I decided my first pet would be one of these tigers. So I began the LONG walk to The Barrens from Darkshore, picking up a Moonstalker Runt along the way to use as a temporary pet.
On my travels, I also went down into Ratchet in order to take the boat over to Booty Bay and get the flight path there. As the boat was heading out to sea, the location on my screen showed as Echo Isle. So... after getting my flight path, I went back and waited for another boat to come, then jumped off the next boat heading to BB as soon as I reached the location of the island with the tigers.
This way, I avoided having to run all over Durotar in order to get to the island while trying to avoid all the big Horde guards that wander around the area. Plus, I now have an easy way to get to the spawn point of Humar the Pridelord once I reach level 23. :)
So, in conclusion... Easy way to get to Echo Isle for Aliance Hunters: Run to Ratchet, get on boat heading to Booty Bay, and jump off the boat as soon as you show you're near Echo Isle.
Also worth noting - on this entire trip (which I took at level 10) I only died ONCE, and that only happened because I managed to get a big bad wolf on me after a spider attacked me (which my pet was taking care of)... about 50 yards from the border into the Barrens. Luckily, there's a cemetary rather close by, so it wasn't that long a run back to my corpse.

Add from Glads directions below
**
For new players
**
****Ratchet is a neutral town in the barrens.
Keep your pvp disabled
****Get your flight paths along the way when running from Darkshore. Get the path in Ratchet and take the boat over to Booty Bay and get your flight path also. Take the boat back to Ratchet from Booty and then get your cat. Those two flight paths are important and you'll thank me later :)
G'luck

Have one of these on my Horde alt.
Nothing special, just like the color. It's funny though when everyone asks me where I got this cat and they are found in the starting zone :)
Thinking of getting one with my NE Hunter also.

Got one as my first pet at level 10. I believe he was level 8. Now at 23 he's still my favorite. Kinda funny too cause I get alot of comments on him asking where I got him. I was doing a quest on Echo Isle when I discovered them before I was able to tame pets and decided that's where I would go for my pet. Atk Spd is 1.3..can't remember other stats and don't have a SS...sorry.
Wish someone had a good pic of one cause the one up there is kinda funny. They don't look like a Den Grunt..Lmao. They look exactly like a Stranglethorn Tiger.

Unfortunately some do not yet have maps, but these will automatically be added to this post when they're added to the NPC's page.
