Arguably better than T7 (not including set bonus) for rogues mainly due to the expertise as eiricco says.

The combat ratings and raid dps mechanics are yet to be determined, but as of now, this single piece of armor overshoots the expertise cap for combat rogues (aprox. 54) by a LOT.

I risk my rogue stealthy neck by saying this, but I honestly believe that this amount of expertise is more suited to a tank then a DPS.

But, as stated above, Blizzard unified itemization for everything but plate(*), so stop QQ and /roll.

(*) I honestly think Blizzard should make INT a warrior stat somehow, just for sh!ts and giggles!

Even if you have expertise capped this chest is still the second best choice for a feral druid atm. Without capping expertise it just crushes all the competition. This chest gets 603.18 kittypoints from toskks calculator with proper raiding druid values. Valorous Dreamwalker Raiments and Tunic of Indulgence both get a bit under 500 points. Tier 7.5 is better if you factor in the 2 piece setbonus, but it's better to get that bonus using other slots if you have this piece of armor. All in all this is an amazing item for all melee dps classes.

This, plus 4-piece T7 is the best gear setup for any rogue. Combat rogues will have to use Sinner's bindings instead of Thrusting bands and Dawnwalkers instead of Footwraps of vile deceit to stay below the expertise cap wearing this. The net is a dps increase over other constallations.

Actually have a question about this.
Pre-this chest I was using Heroes Bonescythe, and had the 4-set-Bonus. I swapped to this as it brought me to the expertise cap as well as a generally nice boost to my stats but I feel like I've lost DPS. Does the 4-set-Bonescythe skill outweigh the stats on this?

It's crazy but this chest is far and away the best ret paladin chest piece if they don't have expertise sources in other slots. Curious if any wear it.

i myself only have the 2 piece set bonus so i wouldn't know from exp. but 5% less energy on combo moves? 5% of 25 is 1.25. ill give u 2 just for the sake of it. 2 energy saved cannot possibly be more valuable then the stats gained from this piece over valorous

Combo moves, btw, are abilities that add combo points (Sinister Strike, Mutilate, Hemorage, Shiv). You would save
2 energy per SS (20 Sinister Strikes for a free SS if you want to look at it in a dumbed down approach),
3 energy per Mutilate (again, 20 for a free combo move),
1.75 energy for Hemo (yet again, 20 for a free move)

So for those who were curious to see what exactly the 4 set rogue bonus was for, there you go. I personally think https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=44011, https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40541, and https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40539 plus the 2 set bonus is far more valuable than choosing one of the above and the 4 set bonus. It's probably a matter of spec and taste. Im too lazy to do the math. By the way, I didnt calculate shiv because of its being based on your weapon speed and, again, im just too lazy... plus im eating a frosty right now and its just so good.. My rogue is going to have said items with the valorous shoulders and helm (maybe helm, my guild is using epgp so im not exactly first in line).

Specced for mutilate and experimenting with my spreadsheet, the 4 part bonus is much better than having the stats on this chest.

Only replace your Valorous chest with this once you have the other 4 parts of the Valorous set and can keep the 4 part set bonus. If you can do that, this chest is a massive upgrade (assuming you are gemmed and enchanted correctly too).

Barring a legendary sword used in a quest, the Chestguard of the Recluse has the most attack power out of any other item in the game (currently).

It's easy to see why non-leather classes would want it.
