During the wintery season, these had a chance to drop off any dungeon bosses, you could tell before hand if they were going to drop due to the mob wearing the hat.

They were later turned into a 'Uncommon' item from a 'Common' item in later patches due to random players taking the hat and the rest of the party had a unfair advantage.

There has been reports of the item dropping off any mob in the world.

Anyone who has an idea why this item was changed into having a durability? Digged my last years one up from my bank and found it at 0/20 Durability where as it never had any durability on it whatsoever last year.

It is still a world drop also. I was just farming the Deadmines for some wool and had it drop off of one of the miners.

IIRC, it doesn't start dropping from bosses until the 24th or 25th?

Dropped today off second boss(Captain Skarloc) in CoT:Old Hillsbrand.

I think they changed drops a bit, it now drops off BC bosses, so you cannot solo BRD and get your hat :(

Been seeing them drop multiple times in heroic 5mans over the last couple of weeks. Ive finally gotten a red and green one, and have bought matching red and green suits off the AH as well as matching boots. Very festiv.

You can tell before you kill a boss if it will drop a hat. The boss will be wearing either a green or red hat.

It has a 100% droprate from bosses that are wearing the hat.

Only one drops per group, and as it's an uncommon BoP item under normal loot conditions the group can all roll for it.

The hats do indeed drop from Wrath bosses this year.

I can confirm that Grand Magus Telestra is two-mannable on normal by healer+tank group and is wearing the hat. You can actually see the boss wearing a hat, i guess all humanoid bosses in WotLK instances who have hat on her\his head will drop hats. We got 2 hats from 2 runs so i guess its 100% dropchance.

Two-manned by Affliction Warlock 80 using the Voidwalker as a tank and a Holy Priest 80. Both in blues from normal\heroics dungeons. Guess Demonology Warlock could be better but Affliction can do too.

How-to get a hat:
Go to The Nexus, Coldarra and take the lowest entrance to "The Nexus: The Nexus".
From the start, take to your left. Kill one dragonkin tank-and-spank.
In the next room, keep taking left route. There will be a patrol of one humanoid and two demon-dogs (banishable) Dogs can Silence the target they attack for 4 seconds, so be awared.
After that there will be a hall with the frozen Horde warriors. You CAN skip them even if you are not rogue. Just don't go close to them. They thaw once you get melee distance with them.
After hall, there will be another patrol with humanoid and two demon-dogs. Sneak past the 3 humanoids (go near the right wall) and you are near the Grand Magus room.
There will be the hardest part, 4 humanoid trash one, twox2, three. Yes, they are harder than the boss. But if you have a "true" tanking class like warr, pala, dk or druid, this could be easier. For a warlock, tap every humanoid with your Torment at least once so they don't kill your healer.
The boss fight is fairly easy. She has ~120k hp. She drops a fire bombs at her main target which do weak AoE damage and sometime do Frost Nova which freezes all targets around her for 3 seconds. You are unable to do anything while freezed. She also casts Gravity Well which tosses all party members around the room and do little damage. No problem with her main form. Once she hit 50% HP, she splits into Fire, Arcane and Frost versions of herself. My advice is that you CC (Fearable!) Arcane and kill Fire first, because Arcane do mass stun spell (Time Stop) every now and then and polymorphs random party member. Very annoying. Frost one rarely throws frostballs and Ice Lance and mainly do Blizzard which you can simply go away from, and remember the warlock demons have 80% resist AoE damage. Fire Scorches random party member and do the most damage but will stay on tank most of the time. Her copies have ~20-30k hp so it's easy kill. Once all of the copies were klled, she merges into herself and you kill her.
Voila, the Red Winter Hat!

Grand Magus Telestra is soloable by a decently geared Retribution Paladin. I buffed up with Kings, a +40STR/+40STA food and a 132STA scroll putting me at 20.8k HP with 3150AP. I used SoC, no feedback damage.

First dragon: FrR aura, tank and spank.

Single caster mob with two dogs: Repent human, kill dogs. Do not break repent, stand about 20ft away and on breaking the mob will rain of fire on your position. This leaves you free to beat the mob down without being hit with RoF.

Four pull before boss: Repent any of the casters (I picked the initiate). Heal often and early since they silence and can burst you down. Not much else to it, just use your normal tricks to burn them down one by one.

Boss: Easy part. Use your FR aura (you will take almost no damage) and take her to 50%. Repent the arcane, blow up the fire while having the frost stunned (and silenced if you're BE). Switch auras as necessary. Toss FR back up and burn her down. Enjoy the hat. :)

Just 2 manned Grand Magus Telestra with a moonkin and a fire mage. Moonkin tanked the first dragon on the way, then for the pat the mage sheeped the humanoid and the moonkin rooted one of the dogs, then we killed the other. Then killed the rooted dog, then the humanoid. After that first pat, you run through the room full of frozen mobs, they don't aggro, and repeat the same strat on the second pat. You hug the right wall as you reach the room with the boss and avoid the next pull. For the pull of 4 in her room, you start off by rooting the melee type, sheeping one of the casters, cycloning another caster for 9 seconds while the mage burns down the 4th mob quickly. If the first mob isn't dead before the mob being cycloned becomes immune, the druid shifts to bear form and bashes. Then you kill the mob the druid has been CCing after renewing roots on the melee one. Then kill the rooted mob, then the sheep and voila, you're ready to fight the boss.

In all honesty, the boss is easier than the trash pull before her. The mage uses fire ward to soak up her attacks as the moonkin dot's her up and throws a lifebloom or two. One lifebloom per player is enough to heal through her entire throw-you-around-the-room attack. Once she splits into three, sheep the arcane one and cyclone the frost one, using fire ward burn down the fire one, then kill the frost one, then the arcane one. After that she returns to simple mage-tank 'n spank, and voila, brand new hat!

Me and a friend (2x 80 warlocks) just duo'd Mechanar to see if the hats still drop there, but they don't. So it's confirmed, they only drop randomly from mobs, or 100% from various WotLK bosses. This information will probably not be valid come Winter Veil 2010 and beyond, as Cataclysm will be released by that time.

Soloed grand magus as a mage.. all mobs just a joke frost elem+mirrors pwnz all

Last 4mob pack have spellstealable +15%haste+150spp buff + hot = killemall

Blue geared mages should down boss to 50% sheep 1 add kill other 2, then reship 1st and wait for next elem-coldsnap-IV etc etc etc + bandage if something gone wrong. Then just nuke add and boss.

p.s. dampen=30dmg per aoe tick from boss = nothing.

nothing to elaborate just nuke using spellstealed buff from last trash pack, then use all abilities and down her to 50%... kill 2 adds, reship 3rd for 2 minutes, bandage >> then kill last add and boss

Just done as a Holy Paladin,bring a few mana pots for the four person pack and kill the steward first as he silences/spellbreaks.Follow the previous strategies for the rest.

Don't try fearing the dogs,they'll run into the frozen horde and aggro them.

Did grand magus as a frost mage.

I started with ice barrier and fire ward up, waiting a few seconds to bring the fire ward cooldown closer to 0, and then popped water elemental, mirror images and icy veins and just straight dps'ed her until 50%, refreshing ice barrier and fire ward when up.

When she split I sheeped the arcane one and killed the two other adds, they didn't hit me too hard as I remember. When just the sheep was left, I evocated and waited on my icy veins / water ele / mirror image cooldowns, and when they were up I didn't use them yet but killed the sheep. When she reappeared in the middle, I popped all the cooldowns like at the start of the fight and continued to dps her until dead.

Don't forget to dampen magic either.

Well geared 80 Warrior couldn't solo.. split is just a bit to much damage to mitigate.. bring a buddy and do it twice...

This is easily 2 man-able and fairly soloable. Just takes some thinking maybe a few tries. I did it as an enhancement shaman with a priest. Just enter nexus on normal take the left hallway and kill the casting guardian. Continue on to you left and take the passage kill the group of 3. The next area with frozen mobs can be walked around my going to the inner wall and sticking to it. Kill the next 3 group and continue on. avoid the group on the left and kill the last group of 4 before the boss. The boss is pretty easy mode with a healer.

Just soloed as a prot Warrior. Unlike other classes, the 4-pull is incredibly easy (didn't need any cooldowns or pots), but the boss herself is a bit more tricky due to lack of cc.

Took me a few tries, but the way I got it done was by interrupting her frost nova and just burning her to 50%, then when she splits you have to target arcane, fear, and when the fear is up hit shield wall. Make sure you keep spell reflect up, interrupt polys and then kill fire. At this point I would blow my enraged regeneration and kill frost, then it's the same thing as phase 1.

Finished with 13% hp.

Just solo'd the Grand Magus as an enhancement shaman in Naxx10/heroic gear.

I went the left way as I entered the instance, then turned right again, the two dragons should not be that much of a problem, and I could let out all the mobs on the rest of the way to her. I also avoided the big group just before her until afterwards because as a shaman you don't have the physical migration plate wearers have and three mobs (1 hexed) hitting you plus their spells can be risky if you get unlucky with your maelstorm charges. It is possile to do those as I found out after I killed the boss, but not nessescary if you don't mind a little risk with the throwing-around-ability.

The boss herself was quite simple, she misses relatively often with her fire bombs, so you don't have to stack your maelstrom weapon for healing waves, you can toss a lightning bolt or two at her. When she splits, just simply call your wolves, the stun alone knocks one of the three out until you burned that one down.

The only problem I faced was that on my first try, after her split she smashed me right into the group that I left out, but as stated before, you can kill them before. On my second try she was a bit more generous and I just bounced up and down, so I did not have to worry about the group anymore ;)

After all not that big of a deal, but as a shaman I think you need at least a decent gear level to survive the split without much trouble.

Hat dropped off Grand Magus Telestra from The Nexus.

She was wearing the hat prior to the battle. Apparently if the boss is wearing the hat then it is a guaranteed drop.

I tried the boss from Shattered Halls that was suppose to also drop a hat, Grand Warlock Nethekurse, according to the wow community site, but I was unlucky. I think they are only dropping off WotLK bosses this year.

Farmed several times, seems to have 100% drop rate from Grand Magus Telestra on normal and heroic.

Easy to solo as a prot paladin in decent gear. I do advise pulling the 4 mob pull in front of her though so you aren't accidentally thrown into them.

Just soloed Grand Magus Telestra in normal Nexus as a BM hunter with a Gorilla pet. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're geared and have T5 bonus. You basically send your pet in with Mend Pet and immediately Bestial Wrath + Rapid Fire until she splits. When she splits, trap one of them and kill the clone that casts Blizzard. When that one dies, the other two should be easy. Bandage yourself if you're low on health before the clones are dead since your pet needs a lot less heals in this phase than when she merges back to her original form. After she merges, she should die without casting a second round of clones. Then just loot your hat and leave. Don't bother trying to solo the second boss (and fail miserably like I did).

Soloed this from normal Nexus at lvl80 enhancement shaman with heroic + few nax10 pieces gear. Can skip most mobs ( the whole part with the dudes frozen in icecubes can be skipped ).

Probaply can't skip the first dragon mob. He hits hard ( if it's not the caster - dunno about that one ) but nothing Maelstrom instaheal can't fix.

The first pack with mage and two puppies can't be skipped. You might wanna hex the mage ( occurred to me after the run :P ) and kill puppies first. Use your own puppies if you feel like it. Use Maelstrom to heal again as the mobs can silence you.

Skip the icecube dudes, their aggro range is very minor so you should be able to slip past them. The draenei berserkers hit like trucks so you really don't wanna break any cubes.

Kill the second puppies + mage patrol.

Kill the three-pack before boss ( hex the steward as you should be able to resist alot of the spells but melee damage hurts ).

Now it's just the four mobs before boss. Hex one of the stewards and corner pull. Obviously you should use your totems.
Kill the other steward first, then either of the mages. Re-hex the other steward when you can and kill the remaining mage if you didn't already. Bandage and kill the steward.

Now it's just you and the boss.
Save your puppies for when she vanishes and calls for aid and go by instinct. I just killed the first copy that got on my way but there might be a more reasonable solutions available as well.
I also used my Fire Elemental totem.

When she reappears, Bloodlust and finish her off.

Profit.

( Edit: Ran this again to help a guildie and realized that not all mobs are always the same so use your best judgement :) )

Soloed as 80 Retribution Paladin, with no problems at all.

Kill the dragonkin as you enter, then repentance on the humanoid, kill the dogs first. Sneak through iceblock room (not getting too close to the iceblocks). Repentance the humanoid, kill dogs. Sneak past the mobs outside Telestras room, repentance the Steward, kill 3 others, kill Steward...

Then it was basically just a spankfest, I used art of war as soon as I got it, and I was using Seal of Wisdom so I wouldnt run out of mana. Never got close to dying, had both bubble and lay on hands left after the fight!

Succesfull 100% drop ONLY from "Winter Bosses" in Northrend.
Succesfull WordDrop from randomly mob in Azeroth.

Acquirable solo from Nexus as an 80 shadow priest

- Dragons in the hallways can be simply burned down
- The two dog packs can be a bit annoying, but with careful use of DoTs and Dispersion, it's possible to take down a pack without needing to run away - MC the humanoid and let the dogs kill it first
- Just run past the iced mobs. If you wake a set of them up by mistake, you can use Mind Soothe to run past
- The 4 pack before the boss is probably the hardest pull. I was able to take out two the first go, using MC to pull, then MCing a second and using it to hit the others and pull aggro off me, but I had taken enough damage at that point to die after MC broke. It might be possible to do the whole pack without dying - MC one of the melee, focus on DPSing a caster, then MC the other melee and focus on that caster again, and it might be possible to have 3 mobs down before the second MC breaks. When one is alone, it's easy - DoT it, MC it, then just wait for the DoTs to tick down.

For the boss:
- When she's alone, it's pretty easy. Just make sure VE is up and burn her. If necessary, toss yourself shield/renew/PoM while she's tossing you around.
- When she splits, get in the middle, and immediately fear. Burn the arcane mob down immediately. Once it's down, you're past the hard part. Fire next, frost last.
- If you get past the 3 images, and you still have a chunk of mana left, you've got it, just keep burning her down.

Just solo'd Grand Magus Telestra as a ret paladin with blue/heroic and crafted epics/BT gear. The trash getting up to her was more challenging than the boss herself. Chaining repentance works wonders for mana regen.

I have soloed Grand Magus Telestra as an 80 human shadow priest, decently geared in heroic purples. The hardest part about this solo is actually getting to the boss. Mind control and Mind Soothe are your friends here.

Go into the center room and out the left side. This way, you skip any encounters with the dragonkin. The short hallway leading down to the area with the frozen dudes is your first challenge. Mind control the humanoid, and have it attack the 2 demon dogs. After your MC dies, try and take out the 2 dogs on your own. Using your shadowfiend followed by a Fade should get the dogs off you while you kill them. Divine Hymn should help as well. I don't suggest using your fear since they tend to scatter about and attract other mobs.

After that, make your way past the hall of frozen dudes. No Mind Soothe required. Just stay out of melee range and you should be fine. The short hallway after that area has 2 more dogs and another humanoid. Kill them as per above.

Then you should see 3 humanoids on your left. Mind soothe those and push past to Telestra's room. Take off all your gear to prevent durability damage, mind control one of the four mobs before Telestra, and have them die from the other mobs. After that, let yourself die, re-enter the instance, and make your way back to Telestra. Rinse and repeat with the remaining mobs. Now...the boss.

At level 80, most of her spells should miss you, making the fight alot easier. Put your dots up, along with Vampiric Embrace and DPS her down to 50%. Power Word: Shield when you need to. When she splits, use your Shadowfiend and then fade, so her copies mainly focus on it instead of you. Take down her purple copy first, then use a fear or divine hymn to CC the other 2. DPS them down (which shouldn't take too long) and heal up while she is re-combining her parts.

The last 50% should be pretty simple. If you ever get in a tight spot because of her ice trap spell, don't hesitate to use a PvP trinket (or every man for himself if you're human).

That should net you your red winter hat! Have fun and good luck!

On the topic, this is indeed easily obtainable by doing normal mode nexus. I did it with a fury warrior, ele shaman and demo/destro lock (me). Might've been a bit overkill, but everything goes really fast and it might save some time overall.

Confirmed that this is not solely from the bosses is Northrend. Though the drop rate is much lower it does drop elsewhere.

My lvl 42 Druid just had this drop from a Zanzil Zombie in STV.

Soloed as a feral druid with decent gear (Crafted, with some 10 man/25 man Naxx gear).

The pulls are really the hardest part:

First pull: Azure . It's just basic tank and spank, shouldn't be too hard if you're decently geared. Use cooldowns if necessary. (But I'd advise saving them for the next pull)

Second pull: 2 Hounds and a descendant. This is a little bit trickier as there's more damage output, but still manageable. Just pop beserk and barkskin. Use survival instincts if needed.

Now you'll be at the room of frozen guys, just stealth through

Third Pull: Same as second.

Fourth pull: 4 pack of humanoids, pop berserk and go nuts, use regeneration and instincts as needed. (I also potted)

Now for the boss:
What I did was basically just tank and spank till 50% where she spawns her adds. I popped berserk here and went to town, they die fairly easily but do some damage.

After they're all dead it'll be about 5-7 seconds before she respawns. You should use this time to heal yourself to full, or as close as possible to live the rest of the fight. Put HoTs on you as well. From here it's the same as 100-50, it should be fairly manageable. If you get low, just pop cooldowns (Barkskin, Instincts, Regen, ect.)

I finished with about 67% health, and I don't have improved leader of the pack, so, it would be easier with it :)

If you've got some decent gear, this shouldn't be too hard. Enjoy your hat! :D

Soloing this instance is fairly easy if you're a level 80 tanking druid, provided you have improved leader of the pack and a decent amount of armor and health. Stay in bear if you aggro any groups, Glyph of Maul is great. Two things you should know, the Dragons in the beginning and the dogs both detect stealth, the dragons are easy enough to get past if you go through the center path. The dogs you might have to end up fighting. I managed to get past the first group by using feral charge (cat) while stealthed on one of the frozen alliance when they stopped at the end of their path. As long as you don't attack or stand right on top of them, the frozen alliance shouldnt aggro. Just go through that room, you'll find another group with 2 dogs and a mage. Wait for them to reach the top of the path where you can target the group behind them again, feral charge (cat) again. That should get you through the stealth detection mobs, if you happen to aggro them, just shift into bear, take out the mage first, but try to keep mangle active on the dogs too for the 20% maul damage bonus from rend and tear. I never tried to Soothe Animal, its the only spell I have never used once on my druid.

Sneak past the group of 3 mobs on the left side, and you will see the group of 4 right before the boss. To make it a bit easier on you, use entangling roots on the melee mob (using it on a caster won't do much good to reduce the damage you take) and let the rest of them aggro you. Shift to bear again, and just go crazy, If your gear is good enough you should come out with at least 6k health left without using any cooldowns, but if you run in to trouble, pop your Survival Insticts, Barkskin, and Frenzied Regeneration all at once. Since Frenzied Regen recovers a percentage of your health, Survival Instincts will greatly increase the amount you recover, while also giving a nice chunk of additional (temporary) health. Kill the Initiates first, because they have a debuff that will drain a considerable amount of your health when it hits, try to use Bash on Magic Burn whenever you see it being cast (Brutal Impact helps a lot). Then kill the Ascendants, then finally the steward. I do not suggest shifting out of your bear form at any time to heal unless the only mob remaining is rooted.

For the boss, she hits like a baby, if you Feral Charge or Bash her Fire Bomb, she will melee you while that school is locked, use Demoralizing Roar to reduce that damage, when she does the AoE that throws you around the room, it usually leaves a considerable amount of distance for a nice interrupting feral charge. When the split comes at 50%, you have a short time to heal yourself if necessary, I usually go for a Rejuvenation + Nourish. I found it easiest to kill the arcane one first, then the fire, and finally the ice. Just try to get them close together, now is a good time to pop Berserk because you want to burn the heavy damage dealers down fast. For the Merge, you have maybe 10 seconds to heal yourself, which should be more than enough, and she should go down, piece of cake.

Just soloed Grand Magus Telestra as a feral druid (equipment: mostly blues with a couple of green and epic pieces, nothing mindblowing).
Died a couple of times on the trash mobs and the boss before finding the best tactics, but all and all doable for a feral.
Remember to use berserk, expecially when Telestra splits, and you'll be fine.

Soloed as a holy paladin. Killed the dogs first for the humanoid / 2-dog packs. I wasn't able to pull off the 4-pull before the boss, so I just skipped them. I bubble-pulled the boss to the opposite side of the room from the trash, then faced the back wall. When she did her Gravity Well, this positioning kept me from flying off toward the trash. Just make sure to face the back wall at all times and you should be okay. When she split off, I killed arcane, fire, then frost.

Pretty easy as any DK. I did it as frost by saving army of the dead for when she split and then popping it. Take the arcane, then the fire, then the frost. Nice and easy.

Solo'd as an ele shaman in naxx epics.. hardest part for me was the 2 patrols, the dogs silence so had to warstomp/pot/run.. the pack of 4 before her weren't too bad, just Hex'd one and killed another.. though I died twice on them so I had only 2 to kill at the end

The boss isn;t worth mentioning, she was a walk in the park

Just killed Grand Master Telestra in Heroic Nexus and she wasn't wearing the hat yet it still dropped. The bosses probly have a small chance of dropping it even if they aren't actually wearing it. Also, was leveling in STV and one dropped for me from a troll in Ruins of Zul'mamwe.

I have yet to see comment about a combat rogue duoing to get the hat. So to add to the ring that as a low-equipped just turned 80 rogue and similarly low equipped just turned 80 feral druid managed to take the Magus down using a modified variant of ExEvo's feral druid solo strat a few posts above this.

We killed the drake on the left and proceeded to stealth pass the two dog packs ( by hiding on the left side in the corner behind the third 'block' as they came toward us, and then secondly by following behind the next set and then tucking into the corner where the force field hits the pat hallway on the right as they came back by ). Then we did a sap & root combo for the 4 pack that generally worked if there was 1 steward, (the druid died on the second time through when we got 2 stewards instead of one).

We generally did the same strat for the boss druid-wise with the addition the rogue, the first phase is pretty easy if the druid gets the bash off, if not be sure to face a distant wall for when she gravities, that way you are out of range for a few seconds of the AOE to bandage. When she splits get away and vanish so the Druid can get all threat or the Arcane one will polymorph the heck out of you. Pop killing spree and blade fury once the threat holds. Bandage as she merges back.

Challenging without a scrap of gear or decent healing, but we got it twice. :)

I've got to admit that something like this to celebrate the season shouldn't be aimed at grinding and high level groups only. I consider it a mistake given it's the Holiday Season.

Personally, I'd have made all the clothes vendor learned or made them a reward from the Smokeywood people for completing a simple quest. At least considering what the clothes do; which is very little.

I might be very much alone on that opinion though. *halo*

Sololed Grand Magus Telestra (on normal where hat also drops) as feral dps in bear form (only 26k HP). Just stealth right to boss and nuke. Improved Leader of the Pack helps me heal myself + used one healing potion. Easy, no group - no need / greed :-)

1st Boss Normal Nexus is Soloable as Mutilate Rogue... I died twice but oh well LOL, Both deaths was 3nd phase I got tossed to the pack of adds near her.

It should be ALOT easier as Combat tho cuz you can just blade flurry all 3 adds instead of killing em 1 by 1.

Did this completely 100% solo as an enhance shaman. Pretty simple in normal nexus.

Kill the dragonspawn at the beginning, little bit longer fight than a normal 80 but it was ok, just use every 5 stack of MW on healing wave. Next is the single blood elf and 2 dogs. Either burn or hex the blood elf and burn the dogs, pretty simple, just watch their silence as it can kill you. Avoid going into melee range with the frozen blood elves, you can avoid every single frozen mob, just by hugging the wall like a best friend. Kill the blood elf and 2 dogs just like the last lot. Here is actually the hard bit, avoid the group of 3 blood elves and get ready to really burn burn burn. Dump your totems as you will need them for this group of 4 blood elves before Telestra. Load up lightning shield and hex one steward. Pop your puppies and nuke the others asap. You shouldnt need to burn any MW stacks on heals as your puppies should be sufficient. Takes a bit of time but its all good. As for Telestra herself, just wait the 3 mins for your puppies to cooldown then pop em and nuke away. 10 times easier fight than anything else so far as almost all of her attacks are spell... and since your an 80 shaman... you wont need heals. Easy Red Winter Hat and the boss herself only took 1 min 13 seconds to own.

Just solo'd this as a BM hunter (no t5 bits for extra pet healing) and a tenacity pet.
Fairly easy, you can skip all the frozen mobs by running around them carefully, pet died once due to the 'pet-coming-back-with-half-heath' bug, rest of it was easy peasy. Boss wasn't much of an issue either, just pop BR, MD, all CDs and Intimidation at the start to give your pet tons of threat, then dps down as usual.
I am geared quited nicely in toc25 hc and some icc25 stuff now so perhaps that's why it was seemples.

this is probably not overall usefull but paladin and death knights with decent gear shouldnt have problem soloing telestra on normal and possibly other classes as well.

well the fight as dk is relatively simple just pop army and use death strike alot since her spells still some dmg(after a minute i was from 35k - 13k while she ofcourse almost was dead^^)

Just soloed Grand Magus Telestra with my 80 non-BM specced hunter. Didn't die any, but not easy either. Make sure your pet holds aggro most of the time and has lick wounds at least. Also, use resilience gear if you have decent gear, as the pet gains resil now too.

I soloed Grand Magus Telestra last night in my pvp gear as a pally ret spec, with a 2032gs. Easily done, just have to kill 1 dragon at beginning, 3 BE pats with dogs, and go around the frozen npcs. The 4 npcs before the boss were also easy, just dps the initiate and aspirant first. I used Sacred Shield and Seal of light to help with heals.

Easily soloed Grand Magus Telestra in normal nexus today to get the hat. I skipped the frozen horde and all the mobs and went straight to Grand Magus Telestra.

Go beast mastery. Keep mend pet up at all times. Because its normal she will only mirror image once into 3 images. When low on mana bust out Aspect of the Viper, keep mend pet up! pretty much 3 crits and she's mirror imaging.

KEEP MEND PET UP.

Feign death when argoed, and stay out of the AoE`s.

When she's down loot that hat and /flex.

GG. GL.... although you wont really need luck.

Tried getting hat in crypts 4 times, scholo 3 times no luck on dropping. But got it first time in nexus 100% drop rate. and it dosent matter if you have red hat and green clothes all color combos must work

Just make a party with some friends, go to nexus normal and kill=>reset telestra. Do that 5 times and every one gets it, YEAH every one is happy.

People are putting too much work into this. I had planned on doing the same as others were posting here, running dungeons and such, but I just happened to get it off a world mob.

Go to save Metzen, the far east point of that cove in Tanaris, start killing the pirate mobs around there, the red hat should pop up fairly soon. I was just clearing them to get to the reindeer, it dropped on the 3rd or 4th guy.

Save yourself the need/greed drama or effort from running dungeons. Especially when you can combine it with another holiday achieve.

Soloable by rogue.
I'm 80 warlock and took my 80 rogue friend who pretty much soloed it all, with some help from me of course but he could have done it without me.
He does have best gear on server though so maybe take someone that can heal/tank a bit.

Regular Nexus to the first boss Grand Magus Telestra is soloable by any class at level 80. You may have to respec, and some classes may take a few tries on some of the trash pulls, but it is definitely doable. Teleastra has a 100% drop rate during Winter Veil.

Whether it is easier to run the instance with others and roll against them, pay/convince someone to help if you feel unable to solo, or just solo it is up to you.

I chose to solo it.

I have this hat and it apparently doesnt 'disapear' after seven days or so, so you can have it forever in other words. I got my from BRD of the Emporer. BRD is a fun instance if you have 4 other level 60's, it's just a bit hard getting a group. Anyway, whenever you see the Emporer, he is wearing the hat, and since the item is new, I believe it is a 100% drop.

Was playing around with my lvl 19 lock alt hordeside, doing Guns of Northwatch. Killed a random mob inside the keep (no he did not have the hat on)and he dropped the red one. It's bop (at least the one I got) and have not seen any others floating around. I'm presuming it's fairly rare.

Bosses may drop it. Mobs drop it at random.

Looks like they don't drop off Azeroth bosses anymore only TBC ones. TBC bosses already wearing/dropping them. Azeroth bosses are not. Kinda sucks.

Supposedly can drop off any humanoid worldwide at very low rate still.

I guess it is official now that old Azeroth bosses do not and won't drop the hats anymore. Looks like Outland bosses only. Probably still a random world drop though.

Hehe, I was in Stranglethorn Vale farming to find a Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw), which sells for more than 300g acording to Allakhazam, then i came across a Red Winter Hat which I really wanted anyway, but it only sells for 1c at a vender and it's BoP so i would have rather had the Parrot. This dropped of a Bloodsail Warlock. It took me about 30mins to find. :P :D I was very happy to find this though. Lol.
