They changed it so that the rare stuff (in this case the scythe and the pets) drop from the bags now. On the PTR they might have dropped from both but, from how they said they were changing the holiday rare drops and how they wanted to stop the alt rotations to try for it, its highly unlikely that they will also be dropping from the boss.

If they still are and are dropping from both cool, but everyone that has gotten one so far has gotten it in the bag, so I wouldn't get my hopes up at all that they will be available from both (bag and boss).

Still no confirmation of the scorchling being in the bags either.

Nice pet, but I'm kinda wishing Blizzard would just make an actual Ice Elemental model instead of throwing bluish paint on an Earth Elemental. Maybe something like a crystallized version of a Water Elemental?

I'm afraid that the Scorchling does not appear to be available this year, folks. I cannot say for certain whether or not it will be made available in the future; however, we encourage you to share your thoughts on the Suggestions forum if you would like to see the Scorched Stone be obtainable in some other way.

Looks like the Scorchling got replaced with the Frostling. Makes more sense lore-wise, but I'm sure plenty of people are disappointed.

Just got the pet the day, he throws the snowballs ~~and appears to get hurt when the Fire Festival Fortitude buff goes out~~.

edit: his health dropping was from receiving the extra stamina.

So I was sorting my bags out after a day of WoW.
Vendoring junk and putting other things in my bank.

It was only when I putting my Frozen Orbs into my bank when I realised I even had this pet. I must have gotten it way earlier in the day and didnt even realise. I was suprised and confused, even had to google the pet as I didnt have a clue where I gotten it from. Funny :)

Interestingly, this pet has a different summoning animation than most. Rather than kneeling down to place the pet like you usually do, your character will "cast" the Frigid Frostling like it's a frost spell.

i just got this from a bag, this minpet is definitly worth getting, hes cute, has a diff summoning animation (frost-style) and he tosses snowballs! what more to say but awesome

I noticed that he also receives the Fire Festival Fortitude buff. However, even with the +30 stamina buff, he only had 256 health, although 30 stamina should give 300 health.

Oh, also noticed that, along with players and their pets, he also throws his spell at enemy mobs occasionally. Was riding through Stranglethorn and noticed he was bombarding the raptors around me. Looked rather amusing.

I had 4 characters doing Ahune daily, totalling 56 runs. Did not get the pet. That's equivalent to 1 character doing the the event for 4 years and never getting it. Brutal drop rate, or just my absolute lack of luck.

I love this pet. Now my Water Elemental has a 'lil bro he can show the ropes. XD

If I'm farming, running 5-mans or raiding and my Water Elemental is out, you bet your mana biscuits this frostling will be standing right beside us.

I hate this frozen little @#$%^. Either all pets or no pets should be allowed to attack others. It's annoying as hell. I not only hate it, I hate anyone who summons it.

Got this little guy on the Illidan server on the first day of the midsummer festival and first time running the dungeon ! I usually do NOT have any luck when it comes to random drops, so I am a tad bit excited ! The only thing I do not like about this lil guy is that he throws ice at me >_< !

As for brutal drop rates...
I think, math aside, it's really just luck. I got the Frostling in the bag first time dropping Ahune, got the scythe second time... and just to annoy everyone still trying, it is my first Midsummer ever!
Oh parting shot, (not the right place I know) also got Tiny Shale Spider first try, landed in the tunnel, Jadefang was waiting...very thoughtful of him :-)
PS: also a first try ever... just lucky I guess.

This pet will cast 凍寒 at you or random other targets in range, which is basically throws a snowball at you and makes it snow, just on the target, for 10 seconds.
I tried to throw a snowball back at him, but the sneaky little so-and-so cannot be targetted. That HAS to be against the rules of a snowball fight >.<

After trying each day on three toons this year and not receiving the 冰屑 for this pet, with only tomorrow morning to go for three last attempts, it occurred to me that often, the holiday rare drop battle pets can be crated and sold. Checking the auction house, I found it; kind of pricey at 4K gold. I checked a couple of realms and bought one for 2k. So, if you didn't get lucky, check the auction house around the end of the event, while they are still available.
