In Norse mythology, King Þrymr (Thrym; "uproar") of the Jotuns (frost giants) stole Mjollnir, Thor's hammer, to extort the gods into giving him Freyja as his wife. His kingdom was called Jötunheimr (home of the frost giants).

Technically this is not the guy for the quest, there are two versions of this guy. One is for the quest, he spawns after you kill the prince guy. and also only has 160k life if I remember. The one that roams the road in the actual zone has over 600k life.

For those like me who were wondering who the heck this guy is, Gymer mentions that Thrym has actually been stitched together from the corpses of several storm giants.

My people have been decimated by the Lich King. The Scourge now use the corpses of storm giants to create mindless flesh giants, or worse, stitched together aberrations like Thrym.

I was spending my spare time trying to find the time lost proto-drake while suddenly clicked on the map and clicked thrym o.O i was like in the middle section of the storm peaks but could see him like like i was 10 yards away .

All of the below seems to be correct so far as I can tell, he is indeed ginormous. In fact, a human priest on a Swift purple griffon will fit entirely inside his head. He does truly have a color changing light hovering behind his head... Anybody's guess as to why :)

(btw falling from the height of Thrym will kill you)

My question is if anyone knows just how many (roughly) it takes to kill thrym (the wanderer not the quest objective)

Soloed as an 80 warlock with FG tank spec and blues+3 greens+2 epics, and HERE'S HOW:

Step 1: Make sure you have the FG tank spec (with enough points into afflic to have siphon life)

Step 2: Wait until he pats behind two trees, where there are no paths that mobs on either side can walk in from (i.e. those damn raptor riders who wiped me twice.)

Step 3: Stand on one side, facing Thrym, send in FG.

Step 4: The second combat starts, hit health funnel. This is very important. He should, with average gear like myself, hit your felguard for about 2k per hit, 5k per crit (ouch).

Step 5: Make sure to continue health funneling, and only when your FG is topped off in health do you hit siphon life and corruption (corruption optional.)

Step 6: Once dots are applied, hit health funnel again as soon as possible. I can't stress this enough.

Step 7: Repeat the previous steps for quite a while (he has 600k hp, so get comfortable), and keep a threat monitor (like Omen) open. At one point, you'll be very near the FG's threat level, at this point, hit soul-shatter, make sure the numbers are very big, like about 90k-100k threat on each, ensuring it will be a while until you catch up, seeing as soulshatter is removing 50% threat on your side. It gets pretty easy once you get the hang of it, but make sure to always keep an eye on the threat/health/mana bars.

Step 7b (optional): If you feel that your threat is dwindling, hit life tap (if you have mana feed), to give your felguard the extra mana for a nice, threat-building cleave+taunt.

It took me 10 minutes (I think), two soulshatters, and 3 wipes to complete. He dropped a whopping 85 silver, 1 drakkari offering, and a thick fur clothing scrap. Totally worth it.

You can straight up solo this guy as a prot pally. I imagine a tank spec dk or druid will be able to aswell, but not a warrior. Long fight though.

I kited him with my Prot warrior into the Ebon Watch camp..there is 3 guards with 44khp there....Thrym killed them easy.....VERY easy. I'll soon try the Argent Stand, there is a lot more guards there so it will be interesting to see.

Anyway i soloed him as a level 80 pally :) Took ages, just attacked and healed me self while laying down consecration and using holy shock on him (My self if i got low)

I tried to take this guy out as a bm hunter with 2 piece tier 5 and a turtle, but even them he stomped my pet. He hits for ~3k on it, so even if I was speced for pet tanking I probably wouldn't have a shot until 3.1 with the mend pet glyph.

Soloed as Holy pally in average Full Naxx 10/25 Epic.
Tips on soloing as holy (or perhaps prot)
First off, he hits for about 3-4k on 20k armor. Crits for 6k.

1. Buff yourself with Blessing of Wisdom (it will be a long fight)
2. Keep up seal of wisdom and sacred shield at all times
3. Engage, and keep hitting him with all of your damage dealing moves (shield of righteousness, judgements, exo, etc.)
4. You should be able to keep yourself up with only your holy shock, and using instant flash of lights when necessary.

If you are a healer or have one you can bring along, he can be kited to fun places around Northrend. I admit I hadn't tried until I saw a paladin get him to Wyrmrest Temple, but tonight my brother and I dragged him all the way to the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown, killed him in the middle of the Champion's Ring. Our next goal is Wintergrasp during a battle (by going through Icecrown, across all those nasty fields to the avalanche area on the west side, and south from there). Fun stuff. Think what you will about my use of free time.

Not to brag, but I have also solo'd this big, ugly behemoth. Have to say, I was a bit disappointed when his loot was absolutely nothing special... Not even that twink sword, Enti's Quenched Sword.

Practically all Death Knights are capable of soloing this guy, but I did it as a blood tank spec, only having had to bust my Cooldown ability, Vampiric Blood + Rune Tap, ONCE, since some trash mobs decided to help Thrym out.

He's big, and that's really it. I had 29k health, and armor was a typical Death Knight value, so he was hitting me for 2k-2.5k per swing, and since I had the Glyph of Disease, I only had to disease him and keep it up and running with Pestilence. All other runes were used for Death Strike only.

When Death Knight solo-tanking this dude, you will want to stay clear of possible ganking spots and mob spawn points. It shouldn't be a problem at all to tank him, anyways, so as long as members of the other faction does not intervene, you will be fine.

ALTHOUGH, I personally think there should be a title to all who defeat him by themselves.

He hits disappointingly weak for something that huge.
Heck, he should just one-hit kill you no matter what you do. Come on, he's large enough to step on a Tauren riding a Mammoth mount without even noticing he stepped on something.

To give you an even better idea of how big he is...

If you have a spell with any sort of travel time (for me, Hammer of the Righteous, Avenger's Shield, and Hammer of Wrath), that spell will almost ALWAYS take upwards of 3 seconds to actually reach the point where the animation triggers, even if you're at point blank melee range. I'd fire off a hammer of the righteous, see the damage numbers come up, and then a few seconds LATER, I'd hear/see the animation.

This guy is gigantic. It's almost unfortunate that he's so easy to solo if you're a protadin.

solo'd him as an 80 fury war in t8.5 tanking gear. Had to pop enraged regen 2 times and shield wall twice (glyphed version). I kepted demo up and bloodthirsted on every CD. A 76 rogue came by to help me out but i'm sure he was missing a lot.

Soloed as a prot warrior with ulduar/naxx25 block rating gear. 31k health, 2380 BV and 45.5% block chance. Just used shield block, BV trinket, enraged regen and shield wall as they came up, kept demo shout applied, and used my normal rotation. ;) Took 5 minutes and 42 seconds, ended fight at about 60% hp.

So yes, pretty easily soloable as a prot warrior with block gear.

i used seal of vengeance for faster killing but due to art of war not proccing sometimes i did have to bubble/heal once and use lay on hands once. use seal of light should remove the need.

A lot of yada-yada-yada about how big he is. I just want to know if he gives worthwhile xp since he can be easily soloed by a level 80 pala/druid/dk. Grouping up with a low-level m8 might be a fast way to get xp since he respawns fast... Has anyone tried that?

Edit: Took my 72 shammy along with a 80 tankadin; long fight, 5K xp so its not worth to grind.

I was just flying around and I saw 2 Thryms spawn in front of me. I took plenty of screen shots if anyone wants proof. They are basically walking in the same spot at the same time but one is slightly behind the other. Just thought it was an interesting glitch. Also to anyone who thinks its great to solo one try soloing 2 of them.

Thrym is also the number one way for a tank to skill up weapon skills. He hits like an old lady, and has a metric f-ckton of health. Just keep that Death Strike / Enraged Regen / Judgement of Light / HoT ready.

Thrym apparently has a set range before he will automatically despawn. When I attempted to kite him through DTK he would despawn immediately after exiting the other side of the DTK entrance walkway. When I attempted to kite him through Crystalsong, he would despawn right about when I got him to the ice-cliff path between Crystalsong and Dragonblight. When I attempted to kite him through the direct link from Zul'Drak to Dragonblight (Light's Trust), he would despawn once he reached the three-way intersection of roads just south of Light's Trust.

I think the reason of Thrym beeing able to sneak up on people is because he's huge. He's so big that people think he's the background so they do not pay attention.

Soloed a couple of times as a 80 Prot Tauren Warrior.
Always had 20% on armor down with Devastate, constanly rend on him and nuking with Revenge and Shockwave after that.
Put Shield Wall and Shield Block up from the start and every time the cd went down I put it on again.
Used Enraged Regeneration and, as a herbalist, lifebloof whenever the cd:s went down, had to use a runic healing potion and a soulstone as well.
Corroded Skeleton Key stamina increase was used two times, as my health went down at the end Last Stand and the stamina buff from Juggernaut's Vitality was used.
Thrym down.
Ate food giving 40 stam and 80 ap before this, had a flask of stoneblood giving 1300 health.

The first time I killed Thrym he dropped a blue JC recipe/pattern, this item isn't even up on the items on Wowhead.

Imagine my astonishment when I was standing in the middle of Crystalsong forrest, looked east and in the fog there I saw the absolutely most enormous hunter's mark ever, glowing there menacingly. Unless I'm misremembering previous encounters he seems to have been nerfed into the ground at some point. He's only hitting for 2k-2.5k on 27.7k armor (~64% damage reduction). He's not even vaguely threatening now.

I was flying over Zul'Drak with my lvl 85 BM hunter and soloed this guy. I decided to get revenge for him stepping on me. Twice. It wasn't difficult at all. My pet looked close to getting below 20% health at one time, but recuperated. It did take a few minutes, but he didn't do anything but try to step on the raptor. No charges on me or anything. A tank and spank fight, and being geared with half green half blues from cata, it was really no fight.

Just as a note, I downed this guy the other night solo on my level 76 Prot Paladin. Despite him being 4 levels up on me and having over 30 times my health, I managed to take him out, thanks to the lack of cooldown on Word of Glory, the crazy mana regen from Judgement, and the fact that he only hits for 3-5k per swing. It took me 23 minutes, but he died. Pallys are ridiculous.

While leveling to 80, he grew up to be so big, he doesn't even need any weapon to kill people. That's why when he was doen with TBC, he give his old sword Hope Ender Link to Doom Lord Kazzak, so Kazzak could protect himself from those pesky raiders who'd find him in Helfire Peninsula and raid, and raid, and raid him day in day out.

worse fcking quest ever! I have re-killed the prince over and over again about 20 times now, and every time Thrym spawns i am at about 38& health because of the mobs, and then i either get to fun for it up the stairs or i die trying... So annoying. I dont know if i ever get this quest done!
