I'm fighting this boss at Delve 7-8. So far, I'm not understanding how to avoid the "Burn Away" AoE, are you suppose to tank the damage?

Rogue with 588 Ilvl and i cant solo this on a rogue in teir 8 , cloak of shadows can only stop one burn away , then i can potion another , after that its a death sentence , can get him to about 40% , also throw wax takes about 80% hp

Having Brann as a healer helps. I was able to solo tier 7 at ilvl 570. I just used the potions he drops as I took damage from burn away

Cleared T8 solo on Augvoker @ ilvl 590. I let Brann hold aggro and used defensives/picked up potions during burn away. Brann will also stay pretty healthy through wax throw. I managed to stay under 50% threat by only using Fire Breath and Upheaval and it only took about 5 minutes.

This seems pretty overtuned for solo players. In a 1:49 fight, Waxface did **25 million** damage to my Ret Paladin. I had Brann healing, used defensives for every Burn Away, used a potion, used Lay on Hands, and was using 1/3 of my holy power on healing... and still came very close to dying. Delve 6 at 578 item level.
Feels like both Wax Throw and Burn Away do 30-50% too much damage. I don't know how you'd do this on a non-healing spec, other than "Let Brann solo it"... which feels unintended to me.

Recommendations: Don't stack your lights.
Remember, if you put it down it doesn't burn out.
You can use things like Heroic Leap to severly limit the fuel usage. Again, put them down next to each other (without consuming). Think of a venn diagram. From the reset point you could actually have three areas lit up.
This will allow you to not worry about fuel for the boss fight - that was a huge win for me.
The 'Burn Away' phase for me (as a prot warrior) was too much - so I had to put Brann in healer mode.
He'd throw down the green goo, I'd get out.
He'd 'Burn Away' I'd pop Spell Reflection and hop in the green goo collecting Brann's healing potions.
Once the fuel issue was solved for the mechanics didn't feel so bad.
Hope this helps someone.

Tip for Night Elves: Use shadowmeld liberally as a threat drop so that Brann has aggro. This will put all melee damage and wax throws on Brann.
I did solo L8 Delve as a ilvl 580 fury warrior and I opened with all cooldowns to take a good chuck of his health at the start. Once those ended, I shadowmelded to give Bran threat. After that I just made sure to stay below Brann in threat (using the built in Blizzard threat meter) until shadowmeld and CDs were back off cooldown and repeated the same process. Even with Brann set to healer, grabbing every potion, using victory rush and enraged regen on cooldown...it was still pretty close. This was far more difficult than the other L8 delves I completed.

Had two attempts at a T8 Waxface. Once with a full group, and once as a duo.
With the full group, waxface's Burn Away would hit for between 1.5 mil and 2.5 mil. Standing in the green puddle would absorb one of those (I think) but nothing more. He does like 3, I think per cast. So not survivable without cooldowns. But unless your dps is high enough, he does this every like 12-15s, I don't think it's survivable for DPS.
Later in the day, I found a duo partner for all the other delves. He was a DH tank and played really great. So I asked him if he's up for WaterWorks. We do it again as a duo and the boss was a cake walk. Hit for 700k per tick. With defensives he didn't bring me bellow half health.
So, until blizzard fixes this, you need to do it, IMHO, in a duo. Not 3, not 4. Duo with bran healer + tank + dps. Doesn't need to be a geared tank either. But they should have 7 mil hp to make the dungeon easy.

UPDATE: As of 14/09/24 it would seem the damage of Burn Away has been fixed and only does about 400k a tick now with no defensives as an ilvl 590 prot warrior. Unsure if its just the variant of the delve I have just done but way way way easier now.
Just did this as a Protection Warrior with the below build at ilvl 587.
CkEAmidFBOBFf5oKuZ7r/WeW7YkBAAAAzMzMzMmZMLzwMzstADamxYmZAmlZAWYegZMjBjZAAAAAAAmZAAbbbAGGYDW2MaMDgZJYmNA
I had Brann in healer spec (level 19) with majority of his abilities being defensives. Very tough fight and definitely feel that its over tuned.
It seems the poison circles reduce one tick of the Burn Away then it deals full damage. Pretty much for every Burn Away I had Shield Wall active in some way alongside Spell Reflect to reduce magic damage by 25%.
Shield Wall x2 and when casting Avatar granted a 4sec window of shield wall which I used after standing in the poison pool for one tick. I then used other defensives such as Victory Rush, Bitter Immunity, Rally, Last Stand etc during scary moments. Constantly building rage when just melee attacks and soaking everything else with ignore pain where possible. Lots of trial and error for sure but is doable just takes a lot of patience and timing.
Admittingly didn't do it within the 5 life's solo so didn't get bountiful chest at the end which is a bummer but I now know what I must do to consistently do this on tier 8.
Edit:: Also one very important thing which helped massively is where the bridge is where theirs an air totem DONT pick it up leave it there as you cant get the poison if standing in it. I placed the air totem from the spawn point (or the one just before you enter boss room) directly behind the stairs of the bridge to create to safe spaces to move around in. Allowed me to ignore the counting down of the air totem thing as well as focusing purely on the fight.

Able to solo Waxface as a Havoc DH 595ilvl
At start of fight used every major dps cooldown to deal as much DMG as possible.
Then used Shadowmeld (Night Elv Racial) to drop aggro.
Now Bran as healer has aggro. Then I made sure to never regain aggro whileist still deal do dmg.
Once Shadowmeld off cooldown I would re-pop major dmg cooldown and repeat usage of Shadowmeld to drop aggro.
Regarding Burn Away!
If at 100% health it would never kill me. With Brann tanking I would always be at 100% hp whenever Burn Away! starts. Once damaged by Burn Away! Brann would drop 3 potions on me and It would bring me back to 100%
Rinse and repeat till hes dead

Just killed tier 8 on 577 ret pala with healing brann.
Fought on the bridge without picking up the candle, focused on healing and soaked the poison just as Burn Away! finished its cast, does seem to get rid of the poison and stop a tick of damage. Not sure if its been fixed but i was sceptical doing it after reading these comments, but after dying twice and then reading these comments I managed to one shot him.
No shadowmeld and I was able to tank the wax shots too

Okay, so for Waxface. There is an Air Purifier behind him, you can walk around him and onto the bridge. You have almost the whole top of the platform to work with if you just leave the candle alone.
Melee + tank at the front of the platform at a corner, ranged at the back of the platform. Ranged shouldn't have to deal with poison or moving at all. They can pump and healer can heal in safety. Still need personals for Burn Away but this method makes him a joke.

i completed a t8 bountiful delve as a 579 demonology warlock.
i tried the trick with the pool of poison aaaand nope... doesnt work right now.
Brann tanked most of the fight (toggled off the pet taunt) but when he is too low he lose the aggro so be careful.
i tried to full myself on every Burn Away with Brann pots and i tried to use a defensive. If i had no defensive i was trying to keep 1 pot up for it and use a mortal coil OR healthstone after a couple of ticks.

I solo it as DK Frost 590 ilvl and lvl 20 healer Brann (Tier 8 Delve)
Strat? What it was said on comments:
1) Fight on the bridge and DO NOT pick the air totem, that way you don't have to worry about toxicity.
2) Start the fight letting Brann take aggro, you just stay there watching. Believe me, Brann will not die.
3) Do small damage (in order to keep Brann tanking him), use some defensives and pick the potions Brann will throw you (along with some other healings)
4) Burn Away will clear all the floor so you don't need to worry about that.
Keep the fight like this until he's low enoguh for you to kill him with your cds.
This makes the fight extremely easy, it almost feels like cheating (maybe blizzard change this aggro thing in the future)

DK Frost, 585 ilvl. After several tries I finally figured out how to approach this fight.
Firstly, it's imperative to fight exclusively on the bridge and never pick up the totem. The principle is simple: always keep your runic power as high as possible. As long as Waxface doesn't cast “Burn Away”, there's no reason to use your Death Strike (unless you feel you're going to die).
1.
- Avoid puddles
- Stack your runic power (while trying to do as much damage as possible, send all your cd's).
- Also, try as much as possible to maintain your health by stepping on Brann's potions.
- It's important to consider using a potion in extreme cases, i.e. less than 20% health and unable to cast a Death Strike.
3. When Waxface is about to throw “Burn Away”, run straight at him, even if there's a puddle - it will disappear immediately - and use your Death Strikes.
- If you feel you won't have enough runic power for the next Burn Away, position yourself near the potions and wait for the cast.

Arcane mage, ilvl 580. T8 solo. At first as was just having a terrible run, to the point I had to reset when I had 1 revive left. Then I tried the following and it worked.
Healer Brann and step on pots.
Whenever he does Burn Away... just run away! lol, seriously, just get as far as possible from the mob until you can tell its AOE no longer hits you. As a mage, blink works wonder here. Otherwise, use barriers or other defensive stuff when he hits with the wax attack. Mirror images and the phoenix are great to take damage, as they will get focused before you. I guess a DoT centered class could do better since because of me getting far away on its special attack I had to speed down the encounter to focus on survival.
Also, as a set up, you can pick up and drop the air at the entrance and put it before the bridge, that way you have an extended air area. Do not pick up the bridge one, otherwise they will get combined, and you want 2 air areas. During the Burn Away phase there will be occasions where you will need to be outside of the safe area and thats fine, you dont get dmg, your max hp will be reduced a little until you can get back into the clean air area. So the whole fight you want to lure it to one of the two sides of the bridge, have it cast Burn Away, and run to the other one, rinse, repeat, ?, profit!

Completed Bountiful T8 Solo as an
Assasination Rogue at 583 ilvl
.
Brann config:
1. Healer
2. Idol of the Earthmother (R1)
3. Relic of Sentience (R1)
Strategy:
1. Dropped totem near the stairs so two totems would be active.
2. Tricks of the trade kept on cooldown.
3. For the first throw wax, use Crimson Vial
4. For the first 'Burn Away' CoS.
5. Refresh dots, refresh Tricks.
6. Second Throw wax,
vanish
, re-open with standard rotation.
7. Use your Tea for mastery buff.
8. Sit. In. Brann's fire.
9. At least use some mana oils.
GLHF!
Tips:
1. Feint for 'Burn Away.' Use Crimson Vial to top up.
2. Algari Healing potions do NOT stack with Cavedweller's Delight; use if you think you'll die (under 30% HP).
3. Keep Tricks up on Brann.
4. If you vanish, make sure it's near Waxface, or you will reset him. Vanish is to restart rotation or when you need to reapply Deathstalker's Mark. If you can use this AND mitigate throw wax, it would be optimal.

As a 589 warlock on T8 solo, the key was putting Brann on healer and picking Soulburn talent for higher sustain. It was much easier to healthough all specials without too much special. Grimoire with Voidwalker also gives a quick boost to health if burn away catches you in a rough spot.

I am a Destro Warlock with an iLevel of 580 and fought this guy in a Delve level 7. It was an easy fight using my Voidwalker as a tank and Brann as a healer. I basically just DPSed Waxface using all my CDs but being careful not to pull aggro. Whenever my HP dropped I just grabbed the nearest flask dropped by Brann, and my health never dropped below about 70%. I never even had to heal my Voidwalker. The fight took just over 2.5 minutes with Chaos Bolt, Incinerate and Wither causing most of my damage to him.

I died a few times (mage), and was even condidering getting help. Then I went in here and read that you should have Brann as healer, and it sort of helped a bit more. Then after another try I figured out that the best way to deal with this boss is to just kite him, get healed, then kite him some more, and eventually he will go down. Go full out in the start, then spend your time just surviving until he is dead.

595 Elemental Shaman doing a Tier 8 in Season 1. This strategy should work for any caster who doesn't have permanent pets (mage, priest, evoker) that can hold threat.
The most important thing that you can do solo is to
allow Brann to hold aggro
. I had Brann in healing spec, and watched my threat for the whole fight. I did *not* use my Earth Elemental at all, as the goal was to gain enough threat on Brann that Waxface was not going to come at me. As a result, I was just using instant casts for the first half of the fight, and around 50% health, Brann had enough threat on him that I was able to generally use my rotation to finish him off.
Same advice as other posters - try to bring in multiple air purification totems - it gives you room to dodge the ground poison, and you can rely on Brann's healing potions through the Burn Away phases to keep your health up.

I was just barely able to solo this guy on +8 as a 571 ilvl Ele shaman. I used a pretty standard dungeon spec for the entire delve, but when I got to waxface I swapped out Magma Chamber and Liquid Magma Totem for Ascendance and Preeminence for more damage.
Make sure you set brann as a healer for this, you will need his help staying alive, not dealing damage. The curio that taunts enemies when you hit 40% health is also very useful as this boss cannot be slowed or stunned but he can be taunted.
I precast stormkeeper before the fight, shot a primordial wave at him, then summoned my earth elemental, bloodlusted and did as much damage as possible. You should be able to get him to around 40% health before your earth elemental dies. For his big fire AoE, you'll need to rotate cooldowns and heal yourself. I'd astral shift the first one, stone bulwark the second, ancestral guidance the 3rd, and heal as necessary.
Once your earth elemental expires, summon your storm elemental and use gust of wind to kite as much as you can, using brann's potions and your own heals to stay alive. Waxface stops to cast quite a bit, get healed up and deal as much damage as you can while he's casting. If you can rotate cooldowns properly during his aoe, you should be able to kill him.

You can get 2 circles of light, by bringing the light (technically air totems) from just outside the door to where it just barely overlaps the steps up the bridge where the other light is and drop it there by either clicking the button you get under Objectives, or by just clicking off the buff the lights/totems give you when you carry them.
But I've figured out how to make it 3 'lights' area, tho. First, move the light that's on the bridge down the steps towards the door so it's barely overlapping the steps. The area on the bridge, by the pumping air purifier, is still safe as if there was a light there. Then move the light from outside the door to barely overlap the other real light.
A 3 'light' safe area.
Lots more room to run around.

Blizz must have "fixed" it and/or they're cheating. :-(. Curious to know if any feral druids have solo'd beyond Tier 6 and what strategy was used.
Update: Well, it took a lot of repairs but I finally beat him at T7 and even through T8 - in Guardian spec. Feral takes too much damage, thoug if I could configure my keys to move around more quickly while hitting and kiting him, it might be survivable. Not sure about boomkin. Next up, I think I'll try heals with Brann specced as tank/DPS, as someone else had success doing.

My advice is the opposite of what most people say. Make Brann DPS and go into healer spec (if you can).
I was a 605 Dev Evoker and Brann's healing potions were never enough and a lot of the time he put them in green crud.
After I got destroyed several times, I switched to Pres and one-shot it.
Just keep yourself topped off and it is easy-peasy.

As Ret, the best way to do this is to keep your Holy Power for self-heal and just kite him around slowly wearing him down. Brann does some damage even as Healer, and you'll also chip away as you generate Holy Power. They key for Ret is to maximise your Holy Power for self-healing instead of damage.
Watch out for Noxious Gas as this will one-shot you if you're standing in the area when it is cast.
Once that's been cast, build Holy Power ready for Throw Wax, use Eternal Flame self-heal once so you're on max health in time for Burn Away.
For Burn Away, use defensives, self-heal and Brann pots to stay alive. Use one pot after each AoE bust if you can as that'll maximise the healing you get. Note that the Noxious Gas is immediately removed when Burn Away starts, so you can fetch any Brann healer pots that were obstructed.
Rinse and repeat.
Edit: If you use Bubble and drop aggro, Brann will tank for you for as long as you can keep your aggro down low enough.
This is really not a fun fight, took me 6 1/2 minutes on t11 at 620 after I'd worked out the strat. Unfortunately, by this point I'd lost all my lives and so I'll need to go back again for the Delver of the Depths IV achievement :(

2nd attempt at a Bountiful 11 on my Druid as I was going for Algari Damage III. Last time I was down to the last life but I never thought of making Brann healer as I always make him tank therefore instead of wasting the entire run I switched to resto and thus failed the achievement. Today reading the comments, I switched Brann to heals, but I also replaced my food buff with this for the extra stamina

I had about 7 totems which I spread around the entire room, dropped trees whenever it is up, switched to bear for frenzied regeneration while running to pots during his burn phase, then rinse repeat.

If, like me, you got to the end of the Stomping Some Sense variant and were dismayed to think there were no air purifiers in his room because none were nicely out in the open like in other rooms, and no totems are visible at all to suggest one is nearby, there is indeed one in the room. It is right next to him, where I normally don't even consider walking before I'm set up and ready to pull. Plus the stomper gets interrupted with attacks.
The good news is that you can activate that purifier without pulling him. Go to the bridge side of it, out of pulling distance, and try to stomp it as you inch forward. There is a small zone where you can activate it without pulling him. Two totems will then light up, one in the middle of the bridge and the other on the far side of it.

To put it out here in a more simple way
The air purifier is right next to him in the last room.
Go around on the left on to the bridge and stand as close as you can to the purifier and use stomp.
Then pull the boss and kill him without worrying about his aoe ability because you wont loose % health anymore
