These items, while a nice thought, are not implemented very well. As it is currently, you trade a 復原的古文物 (converted from common Pandaren and Mogu artifacts) for crates containing fragments from the previously available races (ex. 托維爾考古學碎片箱). These crates hold between 5-9 fragments (the same as doing a single Survey at a matching digsite but with no chance of keystones).

The major problems with them right now is that they are marked Unique and are sold by a vendor that takes extra clicks to access. So the process for turning in Restored Artifacts, receiving Crates, and looting them for the fragments is VERY cumbersome.

Click 布萊恩‧銅鬚
Select his vendor option (he's also a trainer).
Click and buy a single Crate (they are unique).
Close vendor screen.
Open your main bag which closed when you closed the vendor screen.
Right-click the Crate in your bag to open it.
Loot the fragments.

I had about 25 to turn in, and at 7 clicks each, it was pretty annoying. It's very nearly more inefficient than just doing actual surveys.

yes, misha will fly you to "Seat of knowledge" but if you use misha to get there, next time you try to use her at bottom of moon town you wont have an option to fly up there...if you have flying, fly up there and she will be sittin there waiting to take you BACK, i am 90 and had no option to fly me back to seat of knowledge but when i got flying and flew up there, she was waiting to take me back to town....

Be careful how you go about obtaining and using the artifacts fragments when you hand these boxes in to the vendor, as I bought 14 Tol'vir crates, and spam used them to make what I was hoping 5-6 artifacts. As I was spam using the boxes I noticed the error message, you cannot hold anymore of this item, however the boxes vanished from my inventory anyways without receiving the fragments or key stones. Because of this I probably missed out on 2 full more artifacts. So take your time and if you can create an artifact, do it before using anymore of your boxes, as there seems to be a cap.

I have discovered a handy way to make the most out of these. The first bit is to always make sure you have a single 博學行者的磁石 so that you may quickly port to the next location. If you plan on mass farming you may want to get some more.
The reason why it is worth it to spend your 復原的古文物 on these is because do to the changes to arch you can almost complete any of the common artifacts in one dig site. If you manage to get ahead by a few you can use these on the previous racial fragments via:

I have yet to fall behind on my 博學行者的磁石 as long as I remember to buy one or a few when I start getting low. This has allowed me to further my completion of the other races without leaving Pandaria though at a slower pace it is well worth the time as it allows you to work on the excruciatingly extensive achievements such as 收藏：熊貓人茶具組 and its associated achievments from Pandaria while still working on your other races.

I can't help but feel these things rip me off. Where before i used to be able to vender greys from 10 upto 100 gold each; now i have to deal with these crates where it can cost 10 crates just to vender one grey for 10 gold.

it would be nice to have the option to vender the pandaria archaeology finds for the same amount of gold as all the cata finds instead of turning them into this restored artifact.

Gotta ask about tol'var Im level 600 in arch but I want the creeping claw... and the vile of sands... im a alchemist that 600. And really is the rate you get tol'var? in seeing in mists I get 6 comen solves for every tol'var digsight sight but I gotta comptete pandarens common so whay I need to know where it faster to get tol'vir nodes in uldum or is working my ass out on pandaren digsights (all the panderian factions) or is it faster just busting ass in tol'var?

By digging in Pandaria you can also complete every previous archeology project in the game, because of the "Restored Artifact" crate.

Does this mean that it's basically a waste of time to try and complete all the archaeology achievements of MoP?

Wow, this really is a rough trade. I was expecting these crates meant MOP archaeology could be used to finish old projects, but this is just a joke. At the current rate you need 5-6 MOP dig sites to cover the value of one old site. Back to Kalimdor for the vial I guess.

Please note that the Ashran vendors sell MoP fragments (Pandaren, Mogu, and Mantid) in addition to pre-MoP fragments, whereas Brann at the Seat of Knowledge still only sells pre-MoP fragments.

As of 12th of March, DO NOT USE 探險者的筆記本 if you already have an exploration mission available or in progress, you WILL lose it.
A hotfix might be in the works.
Edit: Fixed in Patch 6.1.2 Hotfixes - April 21 - Explorer's Notebook or Garrison Scout Report used by players that already have an Exploration mission available should now be informed that they're not eligible for additional missions of that type and no longer incorrectly consume the item.

Solves from MoP and WoD digs will create Restored Artifacts. However, you can only see MoP dig sites when your Archaeology hits 525. WoD digsites are available right from the beginning.

Characters with Archaeology < 600 can use 5 of these to get 1 Explorer's Notebook. Send your followers out on the mission given to you, and you can use another Notebook to receive another mission.

Once you reach 600 skill, you can then use 1 Restored Artifact to trade in for pre-MoP fragments, either with Brann or at Ashran. At 700, you'll be able to trade in for MoP fragments at Ashran.

This will get downvoted but it needs to be made clear. YOU CANNOT PURCHASE WOD Fragment crates from ANY vendor. This rare takes you over the limit of fragments so you need a lot of keystones.. just keep digging.

Has anyone done some thinking about what may be the most efficient way to solve artifacts? I'm thinking either doing MoP with 螳螂人文物音波定位器 or WoD. Leaning towards the first since the Mantid digsites are often very small and somewhat close, although they have fewer digs per site... hm!

I've noticed a storage bug with this item recently; it goes directly into your Reagent Bank when stacking them for later use (by the speedy right-clicking), but it doesn't always. If you're like me, juggling a lot of toons with little space and less time it can be easy to overlook this and later find a stack of them hiding in among your other stored stuff.

From what I can gather, the best way to do archaeology is actually to buy 探險者的筆記本 and do the garrison missions if you have Draenor archaeology to do. You get 5-10 fragments per crate, or 50 maximum per 5 crates spent. The garrison missions reward 45 fragments minimum (25 fragments + 1 keystone) and up to a maximum of 100 fragments. Obviously this only applies if you want to complete Draenor artefacts, if you want a specific race from Mists of Pandaria or earlier then buy that race's crate.

The Archaeology shop in Dalaran is 'Things of the Past'. It's the one with a pick and shovel above the door. On the map it is in the Magus Commerce Exchange.
Look for Dariness the Learned (Archaeology Trainer) in side.
For each Restored Artifact you give her she will give you a Crate of Archaeology fragments. You can chose what fragments you want - ie, Dwarven, Orc, Vrykul, and so on.

NOTE: You you need skill of 600.

I've found that a good way to farm these, for whatever reason, is to buy a 螳螂獵寶者工具組 from 布萊恩‧銅鬚 or 譚杏桃 in Vale of Eternal Blossoms.

Inside this item is a 螳螂人文物音波定位器, which makes all digsites of Mantid origin for 24 hours. What it doesn't tell you is that it also causes all the new digsites to appear only in the Dread Wastes and Townlong Steppes, which saves you a whole lot of travel. No need to go scouring under the trees in the Krasarang Wilds, and no need to navigate vast mountains in the Kun-Lai Summit or the Jade Forest.

One could argue that you can also go farm 復原的古文物s in Legion, as the digsites are confined to only one zone at a time. However, the artifacts in Legion normally require far, far more fragments to form a single artifact, while the Mantid ones usually stick to needing only 50 fragments.

The only downside to this tactic, is that you need to be Exalted with The Lorewalkers to buy the 螳螂獵寶者工具組.

The 螳螂獵寶者工具組 costs 2 復原的古文物, but you can easily regain those 2 復原的古文物s in a matter of minutes.

If you're still doing this in 2020 or later, consider that you need an Archaeology skill of 600 to open/buy the "troll crates" you can trade in for 復原的古文物. This means you can not just "stop" at 450 profession skill if you want to do the trade in method - This only works if you stick to the troll digging sites and never trade in your restored artifacts.

If you want to do the suggested trade in method, you will be grinding up your skill a lot longer, so considering the terrible trade in rates (5-15 fragments per cache) you might be better off just staying in the eastern kingdoms alltogether. I was able to get a lot more troll fragments by just grinding away in the eastern regions than I would have gotten by farming artifacts in Pandaria or Draenor (I've tried). 1 completed artifact for a 復原的古文物, which gives you 5-15 fragments, is just not worth it to me if you take into account how often you'll get cheap artifacts that are nothing but vendor trash. I am having a lot more long term efficiency by just sticking to the eastern kingdoms and skipping the trade ins. Once you reach skill 600 you can always go back and trade in the artifacts you have collected so far, but it's more of a "topping up" rather than an efficient farming method.

Finally, let me add that my experiments did not take the mantis method into consideration, so this might still be viable today, but the regular Draenor/Pandaria farming just doesn't seem to be on par with the eastern kingdoms. Good luck.

Farming some of these right now in Pandaria. Honestly, it's not bad (I don't have the mantid item mentioned in many other comments), and even without it, the travel isn't horrid and many times other things spawn next to each other anyway. It is worth noting that this does give you quite a bit of experience and burns through rested exp as well. And if you get a pristine item, you get THREE artifacts from that too.
