the best place to farm these seems to be the diseased vultures in the cradle of the ancients in uldum. they dont have much health but their hard to get at from the ground so the best way i found to get at them is to aggro them in flight form, or on a mount and then bring then down to the ground. i was usually able to tag 2-3 before they start to leash

@ Post above, they're not entirely phased out, simply flying above targeting level so it's next to impossible to farm them. (yay phasing -.-) I know this because I was going to farm and had to leave them alone because of that. Hyjal seems to have the same issue, the birds are too high up to kill. It seems as though if you've done all the phasing quests your only choice is Twilight Highlands which pretty much sucks. =/ Just for future note so people don't waste time like I did.

If you have a range attack a macro to help you farm these is.

/cleartarget
/tar diseased
/cast <insert ranged attack here>

edit: This is for the Diseased Vulture of course but easily changed to the Tawny Owl by changing one line to /tar Tawny

Of course this macro isn't as necessary for them.

Just finished farming these off of the diseased vultures in Uldum.

1hr
80 wings
45g in greys
3 greens

Mount up
Aggro 1 - 4 in the air depending on how close they are to one another.
Kill

Seemed more like 66% drop rate then 50% i would have 4 in a row sometimes drop the wing then 2 without.

I'm an 85 shaman and use elemental spec for farming.

They only have 10k health so I only had to stop twice to regain health and never ran out of mana.

Occassionally i had one phase or lose aggro while going for a second, i have done all the quests in Uldum.

I have been and given a good try, all three potential places for farming these.

The best are indeed the Diseased Vultures in Uldum. They have a decent drop rate and die very quickly. They re-spawn quickly as well. There are a few negatives. These can't be pulled from the ground so you have to fly up, aggro 1-2, and then fly down to kill it. If you don't do this swiftly enough they may do enough damage on you to knock you off your mount. At 85 they were not a threat other than falling damage. They are not dense enough to ever pull more than 3 at once and even that is rare. The up and down made me a little motion sick. They also don't drop much for side treasure and you can't skin them.

The second area is the Tawny Owl and Untamed Griffin in Twilight Highlands. These are tougher to kill and while the drop rate is decent since they take longer they are less efficient if all you want is to farm the wings. I have, however, done this several times because they also drop an occasional green/blue item, they are more pleasurable to access than the vultures, and if you are a skinner you can make a decent profit skinning while you kill.

The third area would be in Mt Hyjal. The various birds around Shrine of Aviana are the worst to farm this. You can't reach them from the ground often. Also the white birds don't drop loot. You can't skin them. I had success snaring them from the air by sitting on mountain tops and nests but this is not efficient. The birds that drop them are Hyjal Roc, Hyjal darkhawk, Hyjal Screecher, and Hyjal Eagle.

I've been farming these since our guild got the feast recipe... the drop rate is dreadful considering you need 4 per feast. Even the diseased vultures are dropping low... as do the owls and gryphons...

Blizz definately needs to increase the drop...

I've been farming these a lot since I learned to make Broiled Dragon Feast, and I found that the best place to get them is off Diseased Vultures in Uldum (40.6, 66.8). Drop rate is crazy! I average about 7 per 10 kills. Fantastic way to make gold as they sell for 15g each on my server. Happy Hunting!

I stumbled across these by accident whilst farming Savage Leathers in northern Twilight Highlands. I decided to sell them on ah & I always get at least 20g per Delicate Wing! These are easy to get & are making me very rich. Just dont tell anybody in the Kilrogg realm - I want them to keep buying mine from the ah!

With a Treasure finding potion and working on the Owls and Gryphons at the cliff in the northeast of the zone, in half an hour:

I started farming these as much for the guild as myself, since there is never any on the AH on our server, at least that I've seen. At first I was having issues getting them tagged, because they kept phasing out. Then I quickly learned, being a mage, that you can scorch them, pop slow fall, and scorch them again, and land next to a dead bird to loot, all the while getting away relatively unscathed. Whether or not you get slow fall off is, of course, dependent upon how high you are in the air. I also popped a potion of treasure finding, and while I don't have the results of my hour-long farming session, did have fun farming them - the most fun farming I think I've ever had.

edit: I went back and checked, as I remember I had cleaned out my bags before farming...I wound up with 3 stacks of Delicate Wings, 4 Volatile Waters, 7 Volatile Airs, 2 Volatile Fires, 4 Elementium Ore and 1 Pyrite Ore, plus some gold. Not a bad take for an hour.

Just to balance the comments - after exactly one hour I have:
1 green armor = 5g
6 stacks of leather = about 350g in the AH
41 ragged down = 10g
16 pristine talon = 8g
only 16 delicate wing = 80g in the AH
total = about 450g if you auction or vend everything
so if you don't skin, you are laboring for about 100g an hour.

If you're a skinner, go to Twilight Highlands.

If you're an herbalist, one perk to farming in Uldum (besides the high droprate and easy-to-kill vultures) is that the area has a good spawn rate on Whiptail with zero competition.

Carrion Birds in Uldum are like a 90% drop rate go just south of halls of origination.maby 2 out of 20 dont drop a wing

Went to farm the Carrion Birds in Uldum so I could make some Feathered Lures for fishing.

There's no way the 50% droprate of the wings is correct on these guys. I gave up on them and hit up the Diseased Vultures. Pretty much dead on 50% rate.

Just kept track while killing Tawny Owls and Untamed Gryphons on the ridges north of Dragonmaw and west of the Krazzworks in Twilight Highlands. It took me 52 kills to get 20 wings to drop. So definitely not 50% but much, much better than 25%. If you look at the distribution of tawny owls, you can follow that pattern killing everything with one shot and they will be respawned again by the time you start over. I found this much, much less frustrating than the diseased vultures in Uldum since most of those are way up in the air and cannot even be pulled from the ground if you are limited to a 30-yard range attack like my rogue. I don't even skin and I am still coming back to TH if I need more of these wings in the future.
