He is correct in this matter. Even if you get the talent Fury Swipes that states it does "weapon damage" that weapon damage is actually the melee damage you do in either form, so the weapon speed of the weapon will not matter. It will basically do 2.5 times more damage in bear form than in cat form, as bear form attacks 2.5 times slower.
I actually picked up the pike instead of the staff because before i knew this information I thought it was actually based off of weapon damage. I would prefer the staff over this pike, as i like the look better, and enchanting effects don't seem to show up on the pike. Although it's too late for me, I'm not about to waste 3400 conquest points just to get something i would prefer according to the looks.

For a feral druid, choosing between the staff and pike are based purely on aesthetic preferences.

Some things I want to know about this pike:
1. How does it sheath? Pike up, or pike down?
2. Are enchants visible?

I received this pike as a quest reward for turning in the quest "The Blackmaw Doublecross" in Azshara. It was a choice of three quest rewards. Seriously, No Joke! Oh and I was level 22 at the time.

I'm a bit disappointed, that Blizzard didn't gave the hunters a lower dam, but statwise same weapon, for a lower price, as they did before cataclysm! Hunters dont really need to hit, or do damage with their melee wep...so i really dont see why the hunter class doesn't get its 'cheap' version as before! (They have to pay 6800 conquest points for the bow/gun/xbow + this pike compared to the other classes, who get their relic/wand etc. for 700 - wich they also dont use its just there for the stat inc.).

Seasonal Honor Requirement
As of Patch 4.2 iLevel 359 PvP weapons available for Honor Points* requires that the buyer earn at least 7,250 honor "during the season" before purchase. Basically this means that you need to acquire 7,250 in total honor before a new tier of PvP gear is made available to players, these weapons are mothballed, and your "seasonal" honor reset. You do not lose unspent honor at the end of a season when tracking resets. You can view the amount of Honor you have earned during the season in your Currency tab in the character frame.

Just starting out?
Plan your purchases accordingly. Since main hand weapons typically require 3,400 honor, you'll want to spend the difference of 3,850 (7,250 Honor - 3,400 Honor = 3,850 Honor for other gear) on some other useful combination of gear without going over to ensure you have sufficient honor available to buy your weapon once you meet your season requirement.

You can buy any combination of 1,650 and 2,200 honor pieces to optimize your honor spending. For example, the PvP headpiece and gloves or headpiece and shoulders of your respective class add to exactly 3,850, meaning you will not waste any honor on your way to acquiring your new weapon.

*Honor Points are awarded by participating in PvP content, including but not limited to killing opposite faction members, achieving PvP objectives such as weekly Wintergrasp quests, and participating in Battleground and Arena wins.

Do you think I should buy the pike first over the bow? I only have 3k resil so I'm thinking an extra 220 resil would help me a little bit more than the damage from the bow since I already have mandokir's tribute
