This item seems stupidly expensive to make, given that it's four obsidium ore per key. The titanium skel key takes more bars but makes 20 keys instead of two.

At current prices on Tanaris server the cost to manufacture is 12-18g per key, to open a box with an 82-84 green item worth maybe 5-10g. Doh!

Elementium Lockboxes contain coins as well as an item - generally 25 to 40 gold. And on my server, at least, the items tend to go for a fair bit more on the auction house than their vendor value, probably from enchanters wanting more mats. So your results may vary, but I personally haven't lost any money by opening boxes with these.

The skill level shown on the "Created by" tab is incorrect. It takes 475 BS skill to make the keys, not 425 as shown.

The door you want to open with these is the last door before the ship in heroic Deadmines. If you blow the door open with the cannon, adds come out. If you pick the lock, the trap doesn't go off and you save yourself getting blitzed by four mobs you don't need to fight. You don't even need to be a blacksmith to use them; I tested this by sending one to my engineering alt and it worked!

Edit: As of MoP, this key only opens locks up to 425 skill, was 525 in Cata.

It requires 8 obsidium ore to make one set of keys - 2 ore for 1 bar, 2 bars for 1 folded, 2 folded for one set of 2 keys.
