Dreamcloth is made by combining 8
Bolt of Embersilk Cloth
with 30 Volatile element (
Water
,
Earth
,
Life
,
Fire
,
Air
and
Shadow
)
There are six patterns to create this cloth (
Dream of Azshara
,
Dream of Deephome
,
Dream of Hyjal
,
Dream of Ragnaros
,
Dream of Skywall
and
Dream of (Shadow)
(The name of the shadow version of the Dreamcloth pattern is currently Unknown)
Also: You can create each type of cloth once a week per Volatile element (Meaning they do NOT share the same cooldown).

It would appear that this is used in many cata tailoring plans.
Also...30 of an element seems like a lot, betting volatile's wont be as hard to get in cata.

Do the patterns creating Dreamcloth share cooldown?

Well, the dreamcloth may be soulbound, but the stuff it makes isn't.
And from what I heard around here, the six Dreamcloth-making recipes have individual cooldowns.

I'm assuming that all these dreams will have similar cooldowns than the weekly raid currently has on live. So you can make them once a week but the day doesn't matter. At the moment craftable epic pants and belt will be the best available gear pieces before raid loot and I guess tailors want to make those for themselves asap. You can make at least 5 Dreamclothes per week (Dream of Destruction needs orbs from 5man HC end bosses so everyone can't count on it) and you'll need two weeks clothes for pants and belt. So during the first week, train tailoring up to 515 (or 525 if you can/want make Dream of Destruction), get mats and make Dreamclothes. Wait for the cooldown reset and make rest. And on the eight day, you'll have your new epic pants and belt.

Well the near insane cooldown is to obviously prevent Tailors from capitalizing and cornering the market on higher Tier gear and bags too close to Cata's release and swamp the market. More than likely Bliz will reduce this cooldown as Cata proceeds (I'd estimate about 2-3 months in) or remove it on a whole, just like they did with WoTLK's cloth cooldowns.

Cooldowns are
not shared
, and reset on the
seventh day 0:00
.
(It is not linked to raid reset or linked together for the week, just plain 7th day)

A few facts about the item itself (Note: Some facts have already been posted but i want to compile them)
The crafting action has a cooldown of 7 days meaning that from the second you complete your craft, a countdown will begin counting 7 days minus 2 hours (6 days and 22 hours). It is not a bug. Blizzard simply decided that it is better for players to monitor cooldowns that way since you will still have a theoretical 2 hours before hitting the 7 days "cooldown". It does
not
reset based on the weekly raid timer nor any other timer.
Using one of the ways to craft the item (eg: Dream of Azshara) triggers a cooldown only on the one you used. They
do not
share a universal cooldown.
The Dreamcloth is Bound on Pick-up which makes it impossible to sell or trade it and therefore you cannot collect the items yourself for an armor craft or for the enchantment craft.
The Dream of Destruction craft does not have a cooldown. For example if you have 25 chaos orbs and 40 bolts of embersilk you can craft up to 5 dreamcloth in one minute.
Now for a few facts about the items you can craft with Dreamcloth.
The items themselves only require a fixed amount of Dreamcloth and no other materials.
Crafting any of the items does not trigger a cooldown for the item's crafting ability. You can practically make infinite armors based on the amount of Dreamcloth you have.
The full "set" of crafted epic armors is 2 parts. Belt and Pants. The belt requires 4 Dreamcloth and the pants require 6 Dreamcloth. That sums it to a total of 10 Dreamcloth which equals to a total of 300 volatile elements (60 of each kind) and 400 Embersilk Cloth (or 80 Bolts of Embersilk).
If we suppose that a tailor uses all the ways possible to craft Dreamcloth except of the
Dream of Destruction
(which is completely random since the materials it needs are based on whether you will win a roll or not), he will need 2 weeks minimum, or 14 days. If a tailor is lucky enough to win 10 Chaos orb or he makes an arrangement with his guild to farm those orbs), he can craft two extra pieces of Dreamcloth reducing the time he needs to craft the 2 epics by week, requiring a total of 7 days

Confirmed that they do not share a cooldown. Just made 2 in a row - from Dream of Azshara and Dream of Hyjal. The cooldown for each is indeed 7 days.

I asked a gm how the dreamcloth cooldown worked, as i was puzzled about it.
I had made all dreamcloth i could, except destruction, but they all showed the same cooldown which was weird as i did not make them in the same hour.
(forgot to save that chat)
The gm found that weird too, and did not know how the cooldown worked, so he said he would pass the matter to one of his co-workers.
Today i had gotten this answer when i logged on:
Game Master (GM) Response:
Greetings,
I am Game Master Shorkyran and unfortunately my chopper was too slow so i was not able to catch you online.
Thank you very much for your report of this issue with the dreamcloth. It appears that this issue is currently spreading around and we are investigating the cause. I am sorry you are affected by this - our developers will do their best to solve the issue with this cooldown as soon as possible.
I hope you enjoy your day and godspeed, while travelling through Azeroth!
Regards,

So it seems that it's bugged. But how it's intended to be is unclear to me.

I don't mean to troll, as this is totally unconfirmed but I have heard it in a few places. Apparently if you create a dreamcloth in the zone sharing the same name as the dreamcloth cooldown you are using, there is a chance you can proc a 2nd dreamcloth.
Again I don't know if this is real, but it sure would be nice to find out :)

Since the discovery that
Transmute: Living Elements
is influenced by the area in which you craft it in, I thought it possible that the Dreamcloth just might be, too.
I'm sad to report that it is not. I casted Dream of Skywall by the entrance to the Vortex Pinnacle and nothing irregular (double cloth or otherwise) occurred.

It seems weird that both Dreamcloth and Chaos Orbs are bind on pickup. That means non Tailor caster DPS and healers have to either buy the leg enchant from the AH at crazy prices or rely on guildies and friends to use their once a week cooldowns to keep stocked with the materials.
Once we get epic patterns dropping from raids that need Dreamcloth too, how can it not become a very annoying bottleneck? Or what am I missing?

I'm sure it was intended as a favor towards crafters - recall how people would roll NEED on the frozen orbs whether or not they could use them - now at least you're only competing with your fellow crafters for them.
Making the Dreamcloft BOP is probably a result of the obscene prices we saw on the different specialty cloths last xpac - I just made the volatile life one earlier this evening and not having noticed that it was BOP, checked the AH to see if I wanted to save it for later or make some mad cash off of it.
There were none on AH and figured I was set - toss it up for a few grand and I've just paid to level the rest of my tailoring skill.
Look at the price of truegold right now - it dipped over the weekend a bit but it's back at around 1100-1200 a bar - how much do you think this stuff would run if it was tradable?

This is incorrect. The reset is 6 days from the following midnight. Always. If you craft Dreamcloth a minute before midnight, you'll get a 6 day timer, a minute after you'll get a 6 day 23 hour timer. The cooldowns of various recipes for creating Dreamcloth can "line up" in this way as long as you produce them all within the same calendar day (server time).
After having the cooldown timer differ for all three weeks I've produced this cloth so far, I was confused until I realized the reset was always occurring at midnight server time. This gives you a full 24 hour window to produce the cloth without "losing" any time, and won't allow you to "pull in" the cooldown over time either. Most cooldowns of one day or more were changed to this mechanic in Cataclysm (many daily alchemy transmutes also reset at midnight, unlike the old 20 hour mechanic).

I think it is important to note that in order to roll on Chaos Orbs, you only need to possess a crafting possession that uses them
of any level.
So, people who neglected to level their professions or just picked up level one for whatever reason, can also take the precious orbs. :(
(Although it does help those that aspire to use them in the future)

Note that all recipes that use Dreamcloth are sold from the Twilight Highlands vendors, which require level 84 to reach. If you have an alt with tailoring, you'll need to level that alt to 84 in order to use any of their Dreamcloth.

What i dont get is why there is so many different recipees for making dreamcloth.
It seems rather stupid that they didnt just make 1 recipee with 1 week CD and then make it possible to make 6 dreamcloths.
Can anyone explain why they made it as it is now?
Im guessing its because they wanted the different volatiles to be used.

true that we cant sell them, however this does hike up prices on the things we make with them ^_^
At least until the M&S crowd who believe that "I farmed the mats so they're free!" start to drag the prices down. Let's face it: the second someone cuts your current selling price by, say, 3000 gold, that's the new "going rate". Combine people who price their clothes to around 50% of current AH market value of the materials and this situation and you can kiss your profits goodbye.
Not trying to be overly pessimistic, but I've seen this happen in every expansion on most high-cost items to the point where crafting any high level recipes was almost guaranteed gold loss.
What this change really means is that Blizzard is forcing tailors to take a risk every time they make a Dreamcloth. If you can't find a buyer for the craft the mats are effectively lost. 2g vendor price on the cloth doesn't make things much better. This also means that you have to decide between bigger risk (i.e. making more cloths that might not get crafted for profits) or slower crafting (i.e. not making these clothes on cooldown to avoid losing gold in case they don't sell).

To make 5 Dreamcloth/week, the number available without using chaos orbs, you will need:
> 40 Bolts/week (2 stacks), a.k.a. 200 Cloth/week (10 stacks)
Here's how many weeks worth of cooldowns you'll need to craft certain items:
2 piece belt and pants (10 Dreamcloth):
> 2 Weeks
> 80 Bolts (4 stacks), i.e. 400 Cloth (20 stacks)
虛渺包
(8 Dreamcloth):
> 2 Weeks with 2 Dreamcloth leftover
> 64 Bolts (3.2 stacks) = 320 Cloth (16 stacks)
4x
虛渺包
(enough for all 4 bag slots, 32 Dreamcloth):
> 6 weeks with 3 Dreamcloth leftover
> 256 Bolts (12.8 stacks), ergo 1280 Cloth (64 stacks)
Notes:
This is a post about materials costs, so the number of "weeks" means the number of cooldowns. If you want to calculate the time until you will have enough Dreamcloth, subtract one from the number of weeks required, but only if your first set of cooldowns is ready now. Thanks to Dyskord for pointing this out, see his post for more info.
This is a post about cloth requirements. There are also Volatile element requirements. Those are 30 of each element per week, for a total of 150 volatile elements per week.
"Cloth" means Embersilk Cloth, "Bolts" means Bolts of Embersilk Cloth

Your lucky, on my server they are going 200g a stack.
Not sure how you can get any luckier than THAT!
Volatiles stack size is 200 and if they sell for 200g per stack... dang thats 1g per! If I thought it were really true I'd load up a lvl 85 with max gold and tons o big bags and pay the server xfer fee x2 ... I'd be the richest guy hanging out in SW ... doing.... nothing... :)

In the latest "Ask the Devs" Q&A on professions, they announced that Chaos Orbs are going to be sellable in the near future. This will be very helpful in crafting dreamcloth. Personally, I have around 30-40 chaos orbs sitting on various alts who no longer have any real use for them, it will be nice to be able to send these to my tailor to get dreamcloth crafted.

Due to dreamcloth being used for things that will always hold value, IE bags and novelty items, don't hold your breath for the cooldown to be removed.

For transmog purposes: It costs 251 bolts to make all the gear, plus another 72 to buy all the recipes, for 323 bolts of embersilk total. This would take 1615 raw pieces of embersilk.
Adding in the second tier, it takes 85 dreamcloth to make all the gear, plus another 5 to buy all the recipes, for 90 dreamcloth total. This would take 720 bolts of embersilk, or 3600 raw pieces of embersilk.
This leads to a grand total of:
90

If like me you are Horde, here looking for how to make Dreamcloth for housing decor, but you can't find where...
EDIT: The guy in in Dragonmaw Port is NOT the person to learn it from it seems. .. Leaving the rest here in case it helps someone though
But.. if you haven't unlocked the zone, he won't be there (I stopped playing midway through Cata and picked back up at Dragonflight)
I first tried (as some people have suggested on other pages), completing the
垂危的世界
chain. I had to collect from this guy
土靈守衛者
not Nathanos. This might be enough for you, but didn't give me the quest from
伊崔格
in Grommash Hold
I then had to complete the first little scenario for Battle For Azeroth. Another comment suggested that they abandoned the questline before they got on the birds but again, that didn't work for me, I had to run the whole scenario. Once that was done, Eitrigg had the quest
戰爭機器
which is what starts the whole chain off if you can't get the breadcrumb Warchief Command to start it all off
I had one more wierd issue where Foreman Glibb kept phasing out when I got near him. I have no idea what was causing that but I abandoned basically my whole log and he showed up. Then, its just a matter of following
暮光高地
through
I hope that helps someone

Alright, this had me scratching my head because I haven't done Cata tailoring in a loooong time, so I'm going to clear this up.
Dreamcloth does not show up in your tailoring by itself as other regents do, instead you get a list of items to make it that fall under other names:
Dream of Azshara
Dream of Deepholm
Dream of Destruction
Dream of Hyjal
Dream of Ragnaros
Dream of Skywall
Also, the comments stating the cooldown has been removed are only half true. The cooldown between each individual item has been removed, but not for the crafting of multiples of the same item. Therefore, you would have to craft (for example) Dream of Azshara and Deepholm to get the two Dreamcloth's you need to make the tapestry (which, I'm assuming, is why you're here).
Chaos orbs did have their soulbound tag removed long ago, so if you're not farming them, they can be bought on the AH. I have found the Dream of Deepholm to be the cheapest to make while all the others cost nearly the same.
