This is meant too be the new gun for dwarfen hunters, which includes my self, but Im conserned about loosing stats on it.

Compared to Envoy of Mortality which is the best gun for all before 3.1.

I'd rather have 18AP and 26 crit over the other, all thou not bad stats, they aren't great either.

The is no math in this, so I dont know if it actually is better, but I'll keep my Envoy, al thou this look way cooler.

Due to itemization, hit cap, racial bonuses, and changes to desirable stats against elite raid bosses in upcoming patch changes, it's not safe to declare one of these two very nice weapons Ultimately Better over each other.

Siren's Cry vs. Giant's Bane

This comparison will give many Hunters the ability to make their own decision to fulfill their itemization requirements. Both are very good, and a good Hunter would be happy to have either.

Giant's Bane vs. Siren's Cry is a rather simple battle. For most SV hunters Siren's Cry will be best-in-slot. However for Dwarf hunters Giant's Bane takes best-in-slot solely due to the racial (+1% critical strike chance when using guns).

The 25 Crit Rating on Siren's Cry turns into ~.5% at level 80.
Crit Rating > Armor Pen.

However for a Dwarf, using Giant's Bane nets an additional .5% crit chance over the bow and supplies ArP.

As for people discussing Envoy of Mortality: both Giant's Bane and Siren's Cry outstrip it. Albeit not by much.

The DPS on this seems to have changed to 187.1 (damage range 401 to 684). I was just looking to compare Siren's Cry to Giant's Bane when I realized the DPS wasn't what I remembered. Siren's Cry has also changed to 187.0 DPS (387-661 damage range).

Ah, seems I didn't see the news. The developers decided to buff guns of ilevel 226+ as they felt Hunter DPS was too low.

Today the 3.1.2 patch goes live. Hunter mates, good news from blizard (I quote the official post):

The developers believe hunter dps is too low, so today we are implementing a change to ranged weapon damage to improve dps across the board.

Bows, crossbows and guns of item level 226 or higher (which means weapons from Kel'Thuzad, Ulduar and the Furious Gladiator pieces) will do around 30 more dps. This should translate to a hunter damage increase of a few percent.

We don't think this will be quite sufficient in boosting hunter dps to where we think it needs to be and we have another buff that we plan to get in sometime over the next couple of weeks. We'll announce that change when it gets closer. (We have some plans for other classes as well, but we ask that you please keep this thread on the topic of hunters and the ranged weapon changes.)

As hunters may recall, we had an ambitious plan to change the way ammo worked for 3.1 that ended up being overly ambitious, causing us to scale back. However as part of that change, we stopped itemizing bullets and arrows. Since hunters could not upgrade from the ammo available at the launch of Lich King, their damage had started and would continue to fall behind as other classes upgraded their gear. This change basically incorporates the ammo damage into the weapons -- as you get better ranged weapons, it's as if you got better ammo to go along with them. This is likely to be a design we continue for the next few tiers of content until we have the opportunity to overhaul ammo completely.

That means that Giant's Bane will reach the impressive dps of ~190! Nice improvement uh?

As a troll I would take sirens cry over this gun because of the troll racial bonus ( 1% increased critical strike chance with bows) but if I were a dwarf i would take this gun. If you don't have the racial bonuses then take the gun.

since they buffed armor pen and nerfed steady shot so haste doesnt affect it this is 2nd best in slot for hunters right now

im comparing this gun to the buffed magnetized projectile emitter. I have both, but acording to spreadsheets im losing like 30-50 dps if im not using this one. Is that 3.0 speed that much of a difference how do u guys think ?

Let's face it hunters - this or Siren's Cry? You're going to take whichever one drops for you first. Then another hunter is going to take the other one when it drops. A long way down the line, when you've had Uld25 on farm for weeks, you might face the choice of taking Siren's Cry over this or vice versa. What I'm saying is, there's no way I'd pass on this on to wait for Siren's Cry, nor the other way round. If you're offered it take it, bird in the hand etc etc.

Well, one minor benefit of Siren's Cry is that it auto-shoots faster (+.10) then the Giant's Bane - which means you'll recover mana faster with Aspect of the Viper on, thus letting you keep up Aspect of the Dragonhawk longer.

So for long-term fights, like Thaddius and Patchwerk ,for example, you'll probably top-off Giant's Bane wielders.

Still, who's counting?

I have Siren's Cry and just based on the Boss Target Dummy with ZERO raid buffs on me, I went up from 3.0K DPS to 3.4K DPS, on average using the same rotation.

(That's from upgrading from Envoy of Mortality to Siren's Call, using the same Crit scope enchantment)

I don't have Giant's Bane, but i expect it to be pretty close or even equal to the DPS boost.

Either item is a HUGE upgrade over the Naxx25 gun.
