One of four rewards for the Burning Crusade version of Children's Week.

This little dude has the same standing animations as a normal Hawkstrider (preening, etc.), except for one cool addition. Appropriate for a hatchling with a short attention span, Egbert will begin to wander around jerkily and aimlessly after you stand idle with him for longer than the little guy can tolerate. He's also been observed doing this while walking/riding with him out.

The speed of his wandering adjusts with whatever your travelling speed is on your character while he is out - mounted/running/walking - perhaps to ensure that he does not desummon. It can make for a very erratic show while on faster mounts.

Fun pvp toy too...unlike most pets where he is may not be where the stealthed player is. Keep moving without an obvious pattern and that combined with his erratic movements will distract and mostly mislead enemy players. As you circle just wait for him to start his ADD dance before moving toward an ambush target.

Unlike all other pets, this has a 10 second cooldown (other pets have a 2 second cooldown).

It seems Egbert is the perfect pet if you tend to stand still a lot.
Especially while fishing, Nothing like watching your little Hawkstider hatchling running around manically while relaxing from the soothing sounds of the sea/pond/river.

It seems that whenever Egbert starts running around, he runs in the same rate his master is able too.

For example,If I can walk in 100% speed, Egbert will run around at 100% speed too.
If I have a debuff that reduces my speed by 50%, Egbert will run with -50% speed too.
If I'm mounted, and I can go at 200% speed, so will Egbert.

And so on.

Once this little fella ran right in front of gruul. Then gruul made his "punch hand" animation so eggbert ran back, and went right behind his master again =P

Egbert is extremely cute. Yes, seriously, he is. It's awesome when you are standing crafting several Heavy Netherweave Bandages or smelting a lot of Fel Iron Bars or even if you are prospecting several stacks of Adamantite Ore Egbert will run off and explore everywhere you go.

Just think, about it, your first time in a new zone, did you just have to explore it? Overly curious? Or as level seventy your flyer you had to fly around and visit all those easter eggs etc? Egbert is doing the same! He's excited and curious, and gives a good laugh if you're weak to the cuteness.

This little fella helps pass time when mass profession crafting. :]

If your water walking, and Egbert goes into his random running animation, he'll sink to the bottom then run around, then float back up to you.

Okay, is anyone else seriously annoyed by its 'blinking' animation? It doesn't blink, instead its eyes weirdly fade in and out, I hate the effect. xD Lol, I'd much rather them have just made an actual blinking movement. The fading eyeballs scare me a bit...

The companion pet collection achievements earn you a total of 50 achievement points, and two unique non-combat pets.

Cutest pet ever! He loves to run around when you stand still to long, though.
I was in Warsong Gulch, hiding in the little room with him summoned, and he ran around, out of the room, and spoiled my cover...

Fun. But you gotta love him :P

Just got him. I stood there in Lower City waiting for him to do his thing. And then, he ran off like he was supposed to...except he ran into the wall of the orphanage and vanished, copperfield-style. He didn't come back for about a minute.

This pet is one of five rewards available on completing Back to the Orphanage, the final quest in the Draenei orphan quest chain, or Back to the Orphanage, the final quest in the Blood Elf orphan quest chain, during Children's Week, May 1 through May 7 each year. Collecting Sleepy Willy, Egbert's Egg, and Elekk Training Collar grants the achievement Veteran Nanny. You can only get these 3 pets by completing the Blood Elf or Draenei orphan quest chain, you can only choose one pet each time you complete it, and each character can only complete it once a year. If you've been following along, you'll have figured out by now that it takes 3 years for one character to collect all 3 pets and complete the achievement. Fortunately it isn't required for completing For the Children, and therefore won't delay completing What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been, which rewards Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake and Master Riding. I don't know if it's possible to complete both the Draenei orphan and Blood Elf orphan quest chains in the same year by purchasing a faction change during Children's Week.

A little confused by what I read below. Just bought him for 400g on the AH. So he is cageable and tradeable. He certainly looks cute as well, had to laugh when I saw him running off. However as he is a battle pet and he does go for long runs would he in fact pull aggro in a raid?

May 2017. A reward from a short questline. Being a mage helps.

1. For starters go to Orphan Matron Mercy in Shattrath, Outlands.
2. Start the quest Children's Week and summon your orphan.
Three more quests open up.
3a. Jheel is at Aeris Landing!. Go to the place with all the Ethereals in Nagrand.
3b. A Trip to the Dark Portal. Easier to take a portal to Stormwind and take a portal to the dark portal in Hellfire Peninsula from the mage tower.
3c. Auchindoun and the Ring of Observance. A bit of flying outside Shattrath in the same zone.

Two more quests open up.
4a. Time to Visit the Caverns. Dalaran on Broken Isles has a handy portal. Dalaran in Northrend has a handy portal. Or you can talk to this lady in Shattrath if you are revered with Keepers of Time.
4b. The Seat of the Naaru. Exodar awaits!
5. Call on the Farseer. Stay in Exodar and visit a shaman trainer in the Crystal Hall.

Time for rewards with Back to the Orphanage in Shattrath, Outlands.
Elekk Training Collar rewards Peanut.
Sleepy Willy rewards Willy.
Egbert's Egg rewards Egbert.
Legs rewards Legs.
Pet Care Package gives various consumables, which are a bit useful for pet tamers.

Choose wisely to become Veteran Nanny.

Starts off in Shattrath city in the Outlands. Speak to 孤兒監護員瑪西 /way 75, 47.6 to accept the quest 兒童週
Now click on the 血精靈孤兒哨 to summon Salandria to accept the following quests.. you will need to click on the whistle to summon 召喚瑟蘭德雅 per each quest to obtain credit

參觀元素王座 Throne of the Elements Nagrand /way 44, 64.2
胡秋和蘑菇族民 Hch'uu Zangarmarsh /way 19.2, 51.3
參觀黑暗之門 The Dark Portal Hellfire Pennisula /way 89.5, 50
Once you complete the 3 quests above two more quests will appear

現在，等我長大... will have you head over to Silvermoon City to see Elite Tauren Chieftain in Silvermoon City's Walk of Elders.
前往洞穴的時刻 need to head to the caverns of time and spawn Salandria in front of 薩拉多姆 /way 51.9, 54.4
next fly over to 阿勒米 to buy your orphan a 玩具龍 once you have it turn in the quest to accept the final quest.

返回孤兒院 will have us return to the Orphanage where you can choose a couple different pet companions such as
