I have also had luck catching both the Enormous Barded Gill Trout and Huge Spotted Feltail from pools of Stem Pump Flotsum in Zangar Marsh along with Golden Scale Vendor Fish. An added plus is that the junk you get and crates can add up to a several gold. It's also good pratice to cast a few more times after the pools are gone.

I caught three of these within about 40 minutes today while fishing Highland Mixed Schools in Skettis.
According to my Fishing Buddy, this guy has about a 5% drop rate up there.
Also caught a 金鱗小販魚 in the same pools (also highest droprate from my Fishing Buddy data of fish I've caught) to earn 湖沼學家 today. :D

This didn't take me long to find. I was working on The Limnologist achievement. I read that fishing in the schools gave a higher chance to loot than if you just fish open water. This seems to remain correct. I found it in a pool of Golden Darter in Terrokar.

This sucks, been a fishermans feast away from getting outland gourmet all day today and trying to fish for this. Read posts about it having a higher droprate from pools which i think is bologna; random is random, tried zangar pools, nagrand pools, terokkar pools, GOT the Mr. Pinchy achieve today but still not this dumb fish!

I can confirm that this fish has a better drop chance in Steam Pump Flotsams. Been farming it in Nagrand for a long time, then tried those Steam Pump Flotsams and got it on 3rd or 4th cast. Good Luck!

I fished in over 40 pools and didn't catch one but got one in the barrel of fish from Rokk so i'd recommended getting that.

I was trying to find a Huge Spotted Feltail for the Limnologist achievement. I got it on the second cast in a pure water pool north of Garadar. Later, while fishing for something else, I pulled another three from the Lagoon in Zangarmarsh, all from different pools. Two from brackfish mixed school pools and another from a steamboat flotsam pool. 10 mins later I got another one from a steamboat flotsam pool in Serpent Lake.

Just to clarify, for this to count for the achievement, you'll have to fish it up or get it from the Shattrath cooking daily's Barrel of Fish. Buying it off the AH doesn't count. Don't waste your money, like I did...

Fished this up in a Mudfish pool in the lake by Sunspring Post in Nagrand. Also got the Enormous Barbed Gill Trout in the same location after having no luck in Zangarmarsh. I fished about 4 pools of various kinds in this spot before hitting the Feltail.

Getting this fish is a matter of pure luck. I tried Zangarmarsh, then I read some people got it from the Highland Mixed Schools in Terokkar so I went there. After two hours of running around Skettis I returned to Zangarmarsh and in about ten minutes I pulled it out of the Brackish Mixed School. From my experience there are generally more Feltail (incl. the regular size fish) in Zangarmarsh than in Terokkar.

Bottom line: Don't give up :-)

I got mine on the 6th cast in a Steam pump flotsam (Zangermarsh) after:

5 casts into Brackish Mixed Pools (Zangermarsh)
4 casts into Sporefish Pools (Zangermarsh)
5 casts into Bluefish Pools (Nagrand)
20 casts into Mudfish Pools (Nagrand)
15 casts into Pure water pools (Nagrand)
15 casts into Highland Mixed schools (Terokkar Forest)

I know its complete luck but after reading all of the posts here, it seems that the flotsams have a decent chance to enhance that luck. Good luck to everyone trying for this fish and I hope this info helps you decide where to fish.

For the last year or so - I have been doing the Outland fishing daily hoping to get the recipe for Fisherman's Feast. I had it the whole time - but even worse - I finally looked it up - and read that you get it from the chickie in the tavern...

So I look at the bank - I have none of the fish. I look at AH - of course no one has it. So I go fishing and have been for about 2 frickin' hours now... First in Terror - from regular water to pools - not a damn thing. Went to Nagrand...

That whole "Pure Water" scenario...

From my experience tonight - total crap. I fished the hell out of them - and all I have to show for it is a Vendorfish and 2 Primal Waters. I tossed the rest.

Back to terror I guess to fish some more because they have the highest rate of fish caught there. Something like over 11K and I think Nagrand was 8K... Going to hit the Brackish and Mixed pools...

Update in a few...

Woke up in the morning - fished in Zanga at the pools there. Finally I just hit up the Guild and had someone send me one. I don't remember it ever being this rare or hard to fish... :/ Got my Chef title - DONE.

In <40 catches from Highland Mixed School in Terokkar Forest I was able to catch both a Enormous Barbed Gill Trout and a Huge Spotted Feltail. Was it luck? Maybe... But from other reports, it seems those are the pools you want to fish out of.

Wish people would tell what gear they are using more often. Spent almost 2 hours in the mountain pools in Terrokar, an hour in Nagrand and 1/2 hour in Zangarmarsh. Kalu'ak fishing pole and fishing hat, 600 skill. Not a sign of this or the vendor fish. Finally applied bright baubles and caught both in 3 casts from the same flotsom pool in Zangarmarsh. Maybe the lure did the trick.

People that knew/know me on my home server of Llane have referred to me as insane at times, when they find out just how much fishing I have done and still do. From 2007 to present, I have (as Tuskex) fished a grand total 41617 fish.

That said, I set out just over 4 hours ago to obtain 20 of these or the trout. I ended up with 10 of each, averaging 5 per hour. I stayed the entire time in Zangar. I started out at Serpent Lake. After 2 full rounds (using the Angler's Fishing Raft) the school respawn ceased for over 5 minutes. If you run in to this or a very slow respawn, simply head over to The Lagoon and fish the schools out there. Make sure you don't miss the 2 little islands here or in serpent lake, as they supplied 5 of my catch. When you return to Serpent Lake you'll find that the respawn is back to normal.

I was expecting this to be challenging, but given that this was consistent fishing during that 4 hour period, I had expected a higher yield. You will end up with quite a few other fish, and a nice handful of misc items from the boxes obtained as well. I ended up with 73 fel iron ore, 23 handfuls of fel iron bolts, 40 motes of water, 57 golden darters, 24 spotted feltail, 147 zangarian sporefish, 5 goldenscale vendorfish, and 11 White Smoke Flares.

I've been spending the time between pre-patch and Legion working on some of the older fishing achievements. Here's some tips for cutting out some time while working on the rarer fish from 湖沼學家 as well as, 皮恩奇先生的魔法喇蛄盒. My fishing skill is maxed to 700.

Specifically, the following 3:
金鱗小販魚
巨型斑點魔尾
皮恩奇先生

Initially I started out at Serpent Lake in Zangarmarsh just trying to get the last 2 fish I needed for 湖沼學家. After a couple days, I finally got a single 巨型斑點魔尾, but still no 金鱗小販魚. After further research, I discovered 高地綜合魚群 would be my next stop. I ended up with 5 more 巨型斑點魔尾, the 金鱗小販魚 and a 皮恩奇先生 30 mins later.

So if you need these 3 items, skip Zangarmarsh and go to straight Blackwind Lake in Skettis. You at least then have a small chance at all 3 items without much moving around.

For all of your roleplay needs, I compiled a list of occupational tools for civilian, everyday hero Transmogs. Look at a weapon's "Item Versions" or "Same model as" tab for ones easier to obtain or a different color or weapon type. Higher levels can obtain Appearances for lower-level alts. Finally fished from a Steam Pump Flotsam w/ 75 Outland Fishing skill after about an hour of fishing from pools in Zangarmarsh.

Fished an hour in Zangarmarsh. Got bored. Went to Skysong Lake in Nagrand just a little south and fished in the water pools and got it in 5 casts. :\

So far spent an hour in Zangarmarsh, an hour in Terrokar, and now 30 minutes in Nagrand.

The most time I’ve seen so far in the comments should be about 4 hours, let’s see if I can break the record. :-)

Patch 12.0.1. It took quite a few casts but I caught this in a Nagrand pool of "Pure Water", on a level 5 character with fishing skill of 175+6.
