A great area to farm this seems to be Mount Hyjal, in the green area with actual trees in the northern part. They seem to respawn quickly, so even with multiple people flying around here you'll be able to get lumber at a decent pace.

As Moppentoff mentions below, you may need to clear quests here to prevent from heavy phasing in the area!

Compared a few different spots for this Lumber:

Uldum: 340 lumber/hour
Twilight Highlands: 320 lumber/hour
Mount Hyjal: 320 lumber/hour

This is on a druid fully focused on gathering lumber with no distractions. Everyone talks about Mount Hyjal, but all these three zones are excellent. Uldum (green area in middle) is my favorite though. Twilight Highlands had the potential to be #1, but it suffers heavy from phasing issues.

As a note, when Uldum is under attack it would appear that Ashwood Lumber does not spawn. It started spawning again straight after the invasion/attack ended.

Can find this lumber after prepatch has come out, ~~tryed every cata zone but no luck~~..
Dont have a problem seeing any of the other lumber types (except wod that is known not to work)

Eddit: can see them in Twilight Highlands today.

If you're not seeing any in Uldum and it's staying that way, even if you're in Cata time, talk to Zidormi. I returned to present time and there's the lumber.

Droprates have plummeted in the once-fertile grounds of northern Hyjal. Head to the Twilight Highlands instead.

Definitely, the best place to farm those is The Devouring Breach in Twilight Highlands. There are no mobs around, and plenty of them near the grass by the void. I farmed all the lumber needed to craft every Cataclysm decoration in two days.

If you're wondering, like I was, how to even gather Lumber:

You will need to unlock the ability to see and collect Lumber by completing the quest 大材不小用, which is part of the Introduction Questline to Player Housing.

If you have already completed the Intro to Housing Questline on a character on your account, you will not have to complete it again on each subsequent character.

Instead, in order to unlock Lumber on alts:

1) Travel to your capital city's Portal Room; take the portal to your faction's Housing Area
2) Fly to the central hub and locate your faction's Lumberjack NPC near the "House Upgrades" NPC (the Horde Lumberjack is 希茲羅, at /way 53.63, 56.73)
3) Speak to the Lumberjack NPC and buy 收割用斧 from him for 25 Gold
4) Open your inventory and use the 收割用斧
5) Voila! Now your character can see and collect Lumbers across Azeroth and beyond.

To increase lumber gathering speed/efficiency, one might want to consider to enable the "Interact Key" in the options and then do a little bit of more fine tuning.
Directly from the Options menu, you can bind the Interact Key to a specific button on your keyboard.

Enable Interact Key (image)

Copy/paste the following commands (including the / symbol, too) in your chat window:

/console SoftTargetInteractRange 30 -- this increases the reach of your interact key (default is 10)

/console SoftTargetInteractArc 2 -- this allows you to interact with objects even if you're not facing them

Oddly enough, Ashwood lumber (which is from Cataclysm) is NOT found in the Cataclysm version of Uldum. You need to be in the most recent version of the zone to see lumber. If you're not finding lumber, talk to Zindormi and tell her you want to see the present version of the zone. I think it should be the other way around, but Blizzard didn't ask me:)

Found zero lumber in Twilight Highlands 09May26. As far as I'm aware, there's no one to talk to for the "previous" version versus the "new" version like in some zones - which just makes it confusing as heck. It says there's Ashwood in the wetlands so I'm headed there now.
