From what I have experienced, you unlock 4-6 凡人的回音 right away per day, if you try looting more per day then the drops chance drops to what feels like less than 1%.

Yesterday when I first picked up the quest and looted a big group, I instantly looted 6, then after 40 mins of farming I looted 3.
Today when I logged in and looted a big group I looted 6 right away, then after 30 mins of grinding I looted 2.

I could be wrong, but It also happened to a friend and someone else in this comment section also said they looted 6 right away.

My recommendation is just split up the work over a week if you don't mind the wait. But if you loot less than 6 naturally per day, then follow the recommendation down bellow.

***I added the fact that some people have experienced looting 4-6 凡人的回音 instead of 6. If you looted less than 6 凡人的回音 on the first loot of the day, then I have two extra recommendations for you:
A) You grind just enough to loot the 6th 凡人的回音 for the day, so you can be done with the quest by a week.
or
B) If you don't mind the wait and don't want to spend 20+ minutes grinding an extra 1-2 凡人的回音 in a day, then work on the quest for a few more days looting them naturally from daily reset.***

Personal experience with this grind:
1. You get six echos the first time they drop everyday. I got mine from nagas in Nazjatar.
2. If you continue to grind it the drop rate is low and will only drop one at a time.

I'm suspecting some sort of hidden mechanism on the drop rate here...

EDIT(2019/11/3): Third day. Six echos for the first time. Do know that even this drop is completely random. My suggestion is just go do wq and wait for the six echos to drop.

EDIT(2019/11/4): Only 5 echos on first drop this time. I think others' comments on the drop being between 4-6 echos are accurate.

For those, like me, wondering "What is this? Why is everyone forming group for Echo/凡人的回音 Farm?"

This quest is available once you have Heroic or Epic Edition World of Warcraft's newest expansion, Shadowlands.

The flying mount (蘊魔永恆龍鰻) grants a quest, 永恆旅人, for the 套裝：永恆旅人的外衣 transmog set.

There seems to be an increased drop rate from raid bosses, with a higher chance the higher the difficulty.

I didn't do extensive testing but it felt like about a 50% chance for LFR bosses, then a 100% from Heroic. This is still only for 1 mote per boss, but is repeatable per difficulty.

So if you don't mind going a little slower, and want to clear the raid anyway, this is a nice alternate way to farm some up.

Here's how you farm these items:

If you're a high enough ilvl, do a complete clear on dungeons. Don't run w/ groups, don't run on heroic or mythic, and it does not seem to work on Raids and they HAVE to be from Humans. There is no extremely low drop rate. I have done 6 dungeon clears on normal SOLO and netted 29 Echos of Mortality:

Tol Dagor: 8 in one run
Freehold: 9 in one run <--- Includes the 4 Echos of Mortality daily bonus
Temple of Sethraliss: 2 in one run
The MOTHERLODE: 2 in one run
Waycrest Manor: 2 in one run
Shrine of Storms: 6 in one run <--- Includes the 4 Echos of Mortality daily bonus.

As you can see, Tol Dagor, Freehold, and Shrine of Storms are the best to run because they are massively inhabited by Humans. I've tested this on my guild mates and they have found equal numbers with Tol Dagor and Freehold but not so much Shrine of Storms.

You can have this quest done in 3 days w/ probably 10 SOLO runs on Normal.

Ya know what, i didnt realize this 80 buck expansion pack would require grinding for a mog...thats, super annoying. We paid MORE for the expansion, we got the expansion, the mount, the pet, and a new look to a weapon and ..now we have to grind a week or more for a mog set.

Look if i wanted a grind, id stick to putting my toons through old raids, this is my first day and i have..three. After that nothing. At this rate it will take me a month of farming, to get this (censord) mog that I PAID FOR! Blizzard, never again.

As of today (10th Nov) I can drop 1 per day maximum: been genociding Blood Trolls for hours for nothing.

Can believe that's RNG but as many people got 6 very very fast, I am assuming it has been nerfed.

Just finished farming these at the Blood Gate with a raid group. It took me roughly 4 hours to collect all 40 with 2-20 minutes between drops. I took no breaks and grabbed large groups at a time. Good luck out there, farmers!

Everyone is saying to use Blood Gate but I’ve seen no one mention Darkshore, which is where I farmed my echoes.

There’s an area with a rare and a ton of naga, if you gather them all up and nuke them down, by the time you’ve done that, most had already respawned. They have a very short spawn timer, plus a free toy! (Twiddle Twirler: Sentinel’s Glaive)

Get a group running with people who have a quest and do it in warmode (depending on your realms Warmode population, my servers rather empty so it was free Echoes.)

I was able to get 30+ in 2-3hs after my 6 "daily limit".

People have also been saying that Mythic Keystones and Bloodgate have more chance to drop, which I found to be wrong. I was doing a +5 Freehold and got about 2 or 3, and Bloodgate was filled with farmers from both factions so it was impossible to loot anything.

I started with 0/40 at 2:30pm, was 40/40 by 5pm. We were in a party group of 5, me as a prot pally, 2 hunters and 2 boomkin druids just gathering mobs and mowing stuff down in one spot at the Blood Gate. The older posts about a 5-6 a day 'daily' thing appears to have either been hotfixed or we all just had super good luck, I'm not sure. It really wasn't bad at all, but those posts scared me into waiting a million years to start my grind!

This quest is a REWARD for per-purchasing the next expac. Grinding for days now and still ZERO, ZILCH, ZIP, NADA, NONE! I'd love to know where this "GUARANTEED 4-6 DAILY DROP" is because I sure as hell haven't found it. Once a "good location" is announced, Blizz shuts it down. Blood Trolls are NO longer lootable. What's the reason for this Blizz? This pre-purchased reward should NEVER be gated behind an ENDLESS GRIND and RNG should NEVER factor into a pre-purchased perk!

If I paid for the Epic Edition, by GOD I shouldn't be forced to grind for MONTHS to get that promised perk. Offering a pre-purchase package deal with perks and rewards? Over the last two days I have farmed this on two charcters, total, 6 for two days. I am running solo. I spent at least an hour at Blood Gate in Zuldazar just now and managed to get 3.
Between the two characters (shadow priest, fire mage) I discovered that it doesn't matter how far you go around azeroth or how many mobs you kill. The drop rate is severely capped for any, if not all, solo players running world pve content. The table listed here doesn't seem to be at all accurate either in terms of who/what drops these Echoes of Mortality.
I would love to hear from a solo player who has somehow managed to exceed the 3 or so per day that seems to be standard for most solo players.
The other thing I noticed is that the video is very misleading, it is not at all accurate for current content or patch.

I'd ignore this "first drop of the day is 4-6" stuff. It isn't true. What is true is that the drop rate is very low and probably time gated or on a diminishing return. It's intended to be something you just acquire by playing the game, rather than something that is possible to farm. I've managed to passively accumulate 49 on a toon I was just catching up on Nazjatar / Mechagon rep. So far today 1 has dropped and running heroics has yielded nothing.

If you have the base version like me, You may not be able to get the mount but the mog is a different story as you can simply get the quest by standing next to someone who open's the in-game present

(Patch 8.3) I had accepted the quest to get these last night and had done my dailies in Uldum, Vale, as well as Mechagon and had not looted a single Echo. After digging through various online threads, someone mentioned they seemed to drop from HUMANS. So I jumped over to Stormsong Valley (as a Hordie), killed 1 "KulTiran Pirate" mob near the cave next to Deadwash and nothing. I then killed 2 of those "Hobgoblin Oaf" mobs that were near him and what would you know? 6 Echos dropped at once.

So if you find yourself having issues, try human/oids. 4-6 is said to be the soft cap for the day, but if you are like me and it isn't a big deal, then its just another daily until you get 40 collected. Hopefully this works tomorrow as well, I will try to keep this comment updated.

As of January 23, in my experience, the day you pick up de quest you can not loot this item. I must have killed 300+ mobs during the night counting 0 loots of this kind. Next morning, same luck, 0 count. At EXACTLY 12:00 (daily quests reset time) 1st mob, got 3 Echo. 100 kills after that in the following half an hour, nothing again, I remained at 3. Looks like 3-6 items a day (after the day you get the quest) is the magic number.

Best way i found was to do LFR, Normal and Heroic versions of the Ny'alotha Raid
in Normal and Heroic every boss dropped one but in LFR its more of a hit or miss
I also did LFR of Eternal Palace as well (same hit or miss here)

i tried the blood gate farming but after a few hours i got none.

I also tried the place in Darkshore described in Hysterian's comment
after 30 minutes i got the last 2 i needed and completed my quest

but you get more and get it quicker by doing the raids in my opinion.

I'm not sure what is more disappointing: the obvious uneasiness among most that this arbitrary time-gate exists or that Blizzard chose to do it with an edition upgrade for Shadowlands. My experience so far:

-After buying the XP and logging into WoW I accepted the quest from the mount and started killing 120 trolls (humanoids). Nothing dropped for 15 minutes.

-I logged out to character select, immediately logged back in and the first kill dropped 6 echo's.

-After that I killed humanoids every day, experimenting with the times.

-I would only get a single stack of drops every day after at least 24 hours passed since my last echo's dropped.

-Yes you can get single drops, but only very rarely. I've seen a single one drop outside of my daily first kill pool.

-Day 1: 6 drops
-Day 2: 5 drops
-Day 3: 4 drops
-Day 4: 5 drops
-Day 5: 3 drops
-Day 6: 3 drops
-Day 7: 6 drops
-Day 8: 1 drop first (random chance drop), then after few more kills 5 drops
-Day 9: 4 drops

Summon npc again and fin.

TL;DR After accepting quest relog before it starts dropping. daily drop pool of 3-6 (from my experience) and very very small chance of random single drops.

Having trouble getting almost no drops right after purchasing the Shadowlands upgrade?

I've been trying to figure this out for days -- it's now been 4 days since I upgraded and my drop rate was extremely low, even after following the advice of waiting for a daily reset. I had only accumulated 2 echoes over the course of four days, despite slaying hundreds of mobs.

Finally, today, I abandoned the quest, reacquired it, and pulled a pack of about a dozen mobs -- I instantly received 5 echoes from my first looting.

If you're in the same boat and purchased the expansion upgrade and accepted the quest immediately thereafter and found yourself with a VERY low drop rate, wait until dailies reset, abandon the quest, and reacquire it. This should fix the fact that the high drop rate daily reset wasn't properly applying to your quest ID.

I hope this helps someone save time and frustration!

Took me 4 and a half hours with a little over 3000 kills to get all 40 at blood gate with a group. Did it over 2 days and got 3 for the daily drop each day.

hello wowhead community if you don't wanna waste long hours grinding these I just did 9 nyalotha raid bosses on normal and got 10 off the bosses so far today and 4 at blood gate so I have already gotten 14 so if you wanna hurry the quest along do the raid it makes getting them easy and maybe you will have better luck and get more than I did, hope everyone has a great night.

BFA 8.3

Picked up quest 23 May 2020. Completed today 24 May 2020.

Went to Blood Gate. Dropped 6 on first pull. Grinded there for 1 hour and got nothing. Gave up and went to bed.
After the daily reset, I got another 5 from first pull at Stormsong Valley.
I farmed Stormsong Loyalists and Marshals while signing up for LFR.

I did total 12 LFR raids / 34 Bosses killed. 23 Bosses dropped one. Some bosses didnt drop, and I got 6 by farming Stormsong Loyalists while waiting for LFR (as a healer)

It is between Brennadam, Tidecross and Mildenhall Meadery (I'm Alliance)

I didn't need a farming group. Just did it by myself.

What I seem to notice is that when one of the bosses didn't drop, one dropped 1-5 mins later after killing some Loyalists at Stormsong

I looted 17 in about an hour. Darkshore. But only during the battle event and if you go to Grove of the Ancients, down south, an endless respawning army of orc grunts is amidst. I kill 6 at a time on the left entrance, usually where Madfeather is. Hope this helps. Unless they fixed this, if it was some kind of overlooked, exploitable method.

There definitely seems to be an internal timer to how many of these you can loot. It seems to reset about every day. Here is what I would recommend:

Go to the Blood Gate in Zuldazar
Grab a big pack of trolls and kill them. You should get 4-6 echos.
Stop farming. Come back another day and repeat. If you don't get any on your first big pull, stop and wait.

I currently have 36 out of 40 and I just park my demon hunter out there. On my first couple of days, I kept farming for maybe 10-20 minutes after the first pull, but got no additional echos. That was a mistake. Now I just spend about 1 minute a day farming and if you do that method you should have it in about 10 minutes of farming over about 10 days.

So click the guy from the mount accept the quest. You don't have to own the mount for the quest. I farmed these 7 a day in Terrace of the speakers. Its where you are headed to the ship behind the great seal I farmed the Amani Warrior side they stun but its easier imo on this side vs the other side. They spawn very quickly and no one is farming them on my server during the time I was farming which was usually around 5/6am est. Hope this helps, happy farming.

i bought the SL Extra Edition and got the Quest with the mount i think, i more or less bought the Transmog set.
but the damn Quest items DONT DROP! from Humanoids, until i went to Blood Gate then i got 6 items on Quest Counter. but after that, nothing.

feels really crappy to buy a set there you never get the it due to drop rate...

do i need to do this on all my toon´s to have the Transmod set? or is it only for one toon?

and do the transmog set work on any armor and class? like Plate, mail, cloth leather and so on?

I have registered to share my latest experiences with you.

I made the same experience that "per day" 4 - 6 echoes drop immediately. After the bulk drop a kind of timer is set, which reduces the droprate considerably (in two more hours I received an echo). However, I do not quite agree with the "per day". I suppose the timer is variable as well, but moves between 24 and 28 hours.

Diary:
27.09.20 - 9am - 6 echos - 2 more hours of farming led to 1 echo
28.09.20 - 12pm - 4 echos (farming since 9am) - before and after 12 am nothing
29.09 - 3pm - 6 echos (farming since 12pm) - before 1, after 1
30.09 - 5pm - 4 echos (farming since 2pm) - before 0, after 1

Not a clear A/B test but helps you to understand my thoughts.

Recommendation: Log in every 24+x hours, get your bulk drop, log out, repeat.

I can corroborate other people's accounts and say that these are lootable from Shadowlands mobs - I looted some from a Warstitched Surgeon in Maldraxus.

So yeah - RNG is still RNG and RNG is still the worst, but at least you don't have to limit yourself to BFA stuff.

Not sure if this was changed recently or something but I distinctly remember on my Warlock at Shadowlands launch getting Echoes of Mortality all the way from level 50 (stopped playing that character though so I never finished the quest) but taking my Paladin through Shadowlands from level 48 and picking up the quest at level 50 I didn't receive a single Echo of Mortality until I was level 55 (got none for at least the first day I had the quest). Can anyone confirm if you've noticed something like this, particularly if you started earning at 55 or if you needed to wait a day after receiving the quest to loot your first Echoes?

I just got this while doing dailies in Korthia. The Eternal Travel was there with a question market. I never knew about clicking on the special mount. I did five quest after getting this and received none of these Echos. I tried going back to BofA as per some of the previous post with no luck.

I have no idea how to do the quest or where to go in Shadowlands to start working on this quest. Any help would be appreciated!

Hey folks!
After some testing and trying I couldn't make these drop on my level 60 shaman even with hours of farming mobs in Shadowlands. However the quest still works as intended on my level 50 paladin. So here's how to get these simple and easy; log in on a level 50 character, get the quest, freeze XP gaining (Stormwind Keep's war room for Alliance or somewhere at Grommash Hold for Horde), and just do your daily emissary of BFA.

This way I have gained the usual guaranteed daily drop with ease and most likely these could be farmed too, but 30 mins of farming yielded no results when I tried. Even with XP gaining disabled I am able to get the daily drop.

I can Confirm this literally drops from mobs in Sepulcher of the first ones raid too I was surprised but the drop chance is very very low , after spending 2 days I dropped 8 of these from there not the best spot to farm these but useful to know.

I started this quest a couple of days ago despite I bought the SL Hero edition at its release day.

So from the past 3 days (my main is a warlock at LvL 60) :
Echo of Mortality do indeed drop from Shadowland on Humanoids.
The best spot so far is indeed Warstitched Surgeon in Maldraxus. I dropped a few from them.
I also got some at BFA Zuldazar Bloodgate.

More information based on my experience in June 2022 :
No need to way 24h. Just daily reset.
I had to kill around 10-20 mobs before the drop. So the first pack IS NOT 100% drop.

Drop can be between from 1 to 6 :
Day 1 : I dropped 6 on Warstitched Surgeon and 1 after a bit on also on Warstitched Surgeon.
Day 2 : Same on Bloodgate. 6 Echos of on a pack and 1 slightly after.
Day 3 : ONLY ONE drop from Warstitched Surgeon, I farmed both Maldraxus and Bloodgate but no drop after.
Day 4 : 3 from Warstitched Surgeon.
Day 5 : 6 from Zuldazar Bloodgate mobs.
Day 6 : 4 from Zuldazar Bloodgate mobs.
Day 7 : 3 from Zuldazar Bloodgate mobs.
Day 8 : 3 from Zuldazar Bloodgate mobs.

Quest is now complete !

I discovered this quest quite by accident when mounting the Wyrm.

As of today the last day of the ShadowLands expansion and the day before Dragonflight official launch I picked up 8 fragmetns while running a heroic dungeon
Only noticed it dropping off bosses, not mobs or elites.

The drop rate seemed to go WAAAAY down in subsequent dungeons.
This might be a 5-day passive quest that you can't reasonably power through.

Will update when I hit 70 in DragonFlight.

Don't worry about trying to get this in Shadowlands :) go to the ruins with the Sethak in them in Vol'dun and you should get 3-6 for the day. Fairly quickly as well in my experience.

Things I've noticed:

1. if you are on an alliance toon, it drops from Kor'gar Grunt mobs that have instant spawn Darkshore 44.34, 81.12.

2. the first mobs you kills at daily reset seems to immediatly drop 3-5 echoes.

These got me so frustrated! I spent hours farming the Blood gate trolls,nazjatar, maldraxxus dungeons.. to no avail.
What I've found out is - Farming those in front of Halls of Atonement dungeon does work! I spent like 5 minutes or less and got like 6, there's tons of humanoid npcs that drop them, best of luck!

I had the mount and never saw that you could click the orb. I started the quest yesterday, got 4 echoes dropped in Maldraxxus and then the drop rate seems to go to 0%, because I stayed killing mobs for hours and not even 1 echo dropped again.

I can confirm the following:

Best Zone to farm due to the amount of mobs that are part of the quest: House of Constructs - Maldraxxus. Around 50-100 mobs are part of the quest, so it's easy to get the echoes to drop.
3-6 echoes of mortality per day, after server reset you'll get another drop within the first 10 mobs.
Quest seems to be shared between your characters, meaning that just by grabbing the quest on one of your chars, you'll get it on the other ones. I grabbed mine in an Alliance char which had nothing done in Shadowlands, therefore, I wasn't able to get to any Zone, so I swapped to the char I used in Shadowlands, which is Horde, and the quest was already there. Dunno if it's some kind of bug, or if it's intentional, but I didn't have to grab the quest again.
Although the quest seems to be shared between characters, echoes are not shared between chars, now that I already got like 10 of them, I only have them in the character that I looted them.

Just as a quick (late) tip, if you're farming this now 11.0.2 (The War Within), practically every boss in Ny'alotha, the Waking City will drop you an echo, cleared 25 Mythic and 25HC in solo (iL 570~ Frost Mage, though Arcane should perform better) and got 20+ in a day. Assuming you have the raid unlocked... Hopefully it helps someone :^)

In Arathi Highlands at /way 25.06 30.89 are two Ar'gorok Grunts at the training dummies who respawn instantly when killed, so any class with a spammable AOE can just fire it off to their heart's content, pausing every 30 seconds or so to loot the ever-growing pile of bodies.

I stumbled upon these two after several days of miserable drops in Maldraxxus and elsewhere, and was able to get the last five Echoes needed in under 15 minutes.
