The sanguine pieces have no recorded drop outside Kalimdor and its dungeons. And should therefore be classified as a continent drop

Not a very widely used term, but some uncommon or better random drops are actually restricted by continent.

Also the pieces have no recorded drop from chests or lockboxes. In or outside Kalimdor.

The meaning of sanguine

cheerfully optimistic, hopeful, or confident

reddish-brown colour

The word sanguine have little special meaning in World of Warcraft. It's sometimes used to describe a blood color. For example during the Siege of the Sanguine or with the 血紅之靈.
