Sermihage's suggestion worked well for us, we DPSed down to 40% and then more or less ignored the boss, DPS killed all but 2 sludges at a time, we let the 2 form into an iron sludge and killed it as soon as it spawned. The Iron Sludges have 13k hp and die easily. Just remember to keep track of how many you have killed.

He starts spawning oozes at 50% and will continue to spawn them until 20%. So dps him down to 25% or so, kill your five oozes, then finish him off.

Once he's below 20% he only spawns the friendly earthen, so make sure you let him spawn enough oozes before knocking him the rest of the way down.

Just got this one complete, thought I'd offer a strategy. This is a slow strategy, but works well if you get overwhelmed by the damage the Iron Sludges can do.

He starts spawning sludges at 50%. For 100-50%, just burn him as normal, while killing his adds.

When he hits ~40%, break off - don't bring him too low. If you have any way to lower his damage (Curse of Weakness, Thunder Clap, Demo Shout), keep it up on him.

Stick one DPS on each side. On one side, kill all the sludges (they have only a few thousand HP). On the other side, allow 2 sludges to move to the boss, and kill the rest. The 2 sludges will get to the middle, dance around each other for about 5 seconds, then merge into an Iron Slime. Quickly kill it, then allow 2 more sludges to get to the middle from the same side.

Repeat till you've killed 5, then burn all remaining little sludges and burn the boss.

If anyone is having any trouble with this, with a decently coordinated group:

1) DPS down to 30%
2) Once at least 5 small oozes are out, DPS the boss down past 25%
3) Wait for the oozes to get large, kill your 5 large oozes
4) Kill the boss

The boss only stops spawning oozes once you get him past 25%, the oozes will continue to grow however. This will aid in helping you not get overwhelmed by extra oozes.

If you have a warlock in your group, do the following:

Get boss to 50% and stop dps
Let the big ooze form and let the warlock cast seed of corruption on the boss ( sometimes 2 needed). This will damage big ooze and kill small ones too, so you dont have alot of big oozes running around.
Then rinse and repeat until you kill 5 oozes.

It worked very nicelly for us.

just to make it clear, you need to kill at least 5 Iron Sludges during the encounter. if you happen to kill more by accident - dont wipe, you'll get your achivement ;)

After trying a few strategies, we came up with one that trivializes this event.

Our group build up was
Priest - Healer
DK - Tank
DK - DPS
Mage
Hunter

Started fight, and we pulled him to the steps next to the door. (reason for this is so the healer and the tank dosent get hit by a few unlucky poision bolts)

DPS stood where the passageway where loken spawns begins to bottle neck twards the door.
The DK dps just helped with adds, at 40% we let 5 oozes from each side enter the center of the room. (the reason why we didn't "stagger" them is because it seems the Iron Sludges take a while to spawn.

I as the holy priest stood halfway between the tank, and the dps. As the iron oozes spawned, we quickly burned them down with the three dps. After the 5 were down, the DPS dk continued to kill the oozes as they came closer to the center, and the hunter/mage burned down the boss, easy day.

It is helpful to tank the boss not in the center, but in the corridor where you enter from. This gives your group the entire platform to work with, negating the worry of Lightning Ring.

Just done this today with grp: Me as holy priest, druid tank, arcane mage & 2 rogues.
Had one wipe first, but on our second attempt downed boss with the 5 iron sludges.

We didn't prepare any special tactic, except let the oozes emerge to the sludges & burn them down fast. Was quite mana intensive and defo no easy task to heal, but we managed to do it with nobody killed.

The iron sludges seems to cast thier poison nova everywhere, regardless where youre standing, you get the hit. Despite the spell description says the limit is 30 yards, we always get hit by nova altough we were spreaded as a dps group, a healer and a tank far from one another. So its not essential to reposition group when oozes start to come. however with a poison totem, we managed to get credit without any caution. Just track the HP percentage of boss, know where you will stop and as soon as 5th sludge dies, pop all CDs and burn Boss down as quickly as possible. Thats how we did it easily.. gl

tank the boss where bran stands before the fight
my group stopped dps when he reached 50% and just let the oozes come down, there is a spell animation that occurs before they fuze as soon as you see it AOE IMMEDIATLY, both kinds of oozes have barely any health and go down in seconds. rinse and repeat

Just finished this today with a very disorganized group:

Ulduar geared Warrior
Ulduar geared Resto Shaman
Ulduar geared Mage
Naxx25+ geared Boomkin (me)
Poorly geared DK

We just DPSed the boss until the oozes started coming out, then just sat there and waited for the oozes to merge, then killed them as they merged. By the time we got 5 dead, things were out of control... Everybody was taking massive damage and there was oozes everywhere, but I popped out and used Tranquility to get some stress off the shaman, and we bursted boss down in time with only the DK dying.

It was VERY hectic, so I recommend that you control how many oozes you let loose at a time, we outgeared this and barely pulled it off.

Hi, okay so the way i did this was that we got boss to what 30% hp and then no dps..We waited as the little oozes came into the center and camped there for a few seconds and then turned into the Iron Sludges you need to kill for the achieve..So remember that there will be alot of little oozes...Just keep like 2 alive and let them turn into the Iron Sludges and you will be fine.Hope this helps!Happy hunting:P

Just did this 5 minutes ago with a TOC/Uld geared tank and druid, and some very lame dps. I have 2 quick pieces of advice:
1) never let more than 2-3 small oozes live
2) get some decent non-retard DPS, or else it will be very hard.

I did it today with a group consisting of:

1 Tankadin heroics and badge gear
1 Shadow Priest
1 Holy Priest with no so good gear and experience
1 Blood DK
1 Rogue

The tac we used to defeat the boss was for me (the awesome shadow priest) go Holy (off spec) and heal both the rogue and the DK each on a stair. I kept SWP on the boss and the dpsers focused on getting the adds down. Eventually we got the boss to 50% and the adds started to spawn. We didn't worry about how many of the sludges spawned, but once we had 5 dead, the tank and both DPSers took him down in a few seconds.

This strategy is good is your healer is not experient, very under-geared and/or a total retarted. (Ours was just unexperienced) and one of your party members is someone who has healing offspec. Though I recomend the above mentioned for more balanced groups.

OK. I tried the ways they tell u how to do this. I was tanking as a bear, had a hunter, shadow priest, ret pally, and a shamn healer. The ways stated did not work too well. After a few wipes we formulated a new plan. Tank the boss where bran whats his name stands, dps him down to 50%. Quit all dps on boss. Let the oozes form, (might have to take boss to them for this to work, not sure did it to be safe). than take boss back to bran. All dps focus on taking down the oozes. With this plan we one shotted it no problem.

With today's gear, will be easily possible if you simply DPS the boss down to just below 50%, stop dpsing the boss and just kill non-elite adds, allow the tiny sludges to form into large, ugly (and non-elite) sludges and simply slay 5 of em. Tank and healer need to be competent and the dps fully briefed on their role to avoid problems.

Not very difficult to do now, considering that everyone is overgeared. Our group did it on our first try. We were downing the iron sludges so fast that none of them even got off any poison bolts (or whatever it is they do). It might have been harder if we had a newb tank or healer though, but we didn't, so I guess I'll never know. Oh, and don't waste your time trying to do this with a PUG. Just spam trade on your own server and start a group with the intention of doing this achievement; otherwise, you'll end up with someone from a PUG who won't have the patience for the achievement.

Soloed quite easily. Pulled him to one spawn point to casually nuke the oozes spawning there. Noticed I didn't have to, as I one-shotted the sludges too.
It very clearly requires healing though.

If you get the jist of the fight it's extremely easy as a Warrior, as the adds do of course proc Victory rush!

Just be careful you don't DPS the boss down too fast, which is pretty likely if you're well geared (I had to switch to Prot just incase, not that I needed to considering how much VR heals)

Soloed it as an Arcane Mage by spamming Mage Shield, targetting Iron Sludges with a macro, running around to avoid the slow ass boss, killing the (humanoid) ads in the beginning, hitting mirror images at some point towards the end to avoid dying.

I don't like healing potions (and their price), but it might be easier with them.

Soloed as a lock. Have void tank + demon soul and burn the boss down to low 200k's hp as quick as you can. Watch your dots if you're affliction so you don't take him too far. 6ish adds will be spawned before it will switch to the sludges. Mop up those adds and keep the voidwalker up as he'll do decent damage to it. Mine ended up dying, I insta-popped another one and soulshattered. The new one lived just barely long enough for me to get the 5 iron sludges and then the boss. Was destro - was a close fight that gets a bit hectic toward the end but should be doable for most.

If you understand the mechanics, this is a breeze to solo at 85. For hunters, a BM spec comes in handy, but I imagine it shouldn't be difficult with MM or Surv. Burn the boss to 50% while your pet tanks, then set them on passive and stay put. Keep Mend up as necessary, wait for the adds to (slowly) wander in, merge, and kill them. Once you get 5 (or 6 or 7, just to be on the safe side), finish the boss.

After the boss reaches <50%hp he will also cast lightning aoe that will damage him, so don't be too slow with killing sludges or the boss will kill himself

I just soloed this, very easy, just hit him until he reach 50% hp, and move him away and stop atacking, then 3 small adds will come from both sides and become one big add, that is the add you need to kill 5 of, dont get boss below 25% hp, because he will then stop spawn adds :D good luck

Me and my friend just recently 2 manned this, although it is soloable by a class that has a decent source of healing such as Warriors Victory Rush or Palidins healing in general. We found a great 2 man strat. (mage dps and warrior dps)

Me, as the warrior had held on to the boss and popped of Victory Rush when it proced on any of the mobs of the left side so that I could to keep my health a decent amount, while the mage stood by and took out mobs on the right side. After the mobs that are oozes spawn, all dps must stop taking out the main portion of them. As a warrior with the only source of healing being a CD and Victory Rush/Bloodthirst, it was difficult to hold my health at a stable level, so when my health dropped under 80k, I would kill 3 oozes with VC. Pull the boss around and let the oozes meet in the middle (3 I believe). After they meet in the middle, they form into a Iron Sludge. Repeat this process until you kill 5 Iron Sludges, then burn boss down and earn Achievement.

Took one try with 2 people, shouldn't be too hard for you.

Just a quick one for any Gurthalak weilders out there, try to have an alternate weapon on hand. I got Sjonnir down to a nice, safe HP level, but the tentacle procced from hitting one of the slimes and proceeded to tear the boss down along with the Earthen Dwarves before I even managed 2 Sludges.

Solo'd as a combat rogue (380 gear, two pieces pvp, some 397s, most from twilight dungeons):

Success @ 3rd try:

Started with a simple ambush to get a heal going right from the start. Kill little adds, then burn him to 50% (Interface > Status > place % on), then untarget and STOP DAMAGE. Now wait for the little bubbles of ooze to get to the center, DO NOT KILL THEM! It takes a few ooze (or so it appeared) to turn into one sludge. Be patient! In between he will do that lightning ordeal, stand-back and bandage up!

Then you will see the ugly sludges, kill them and try to keep count. I counted to six just because I wanted to be sure, I was down to 40% health, but stood in during a lightning. Once at 6, just hurry and drink a health pot (Rogue's Draught, ftw) and nuke the boss, use any cooldowns to make it easier.

My first try I thought the ooze were the sludge (/slap) and well, saved and no achievement obviously. Next try, died do to stupidly standing in lightning. I realized on my third try a bandage was no disrupted by standing out of his aoe lightning.

just did this on my Blood DK (and accidentally in my frost gear), just slowly got him to 50% with no diseases, then let the oozes form up and kill em. i counted up too 7 just to be safe

don't kill the dwarfs that come out at the start in case u need to smack one with a blood strike for quick heal

Mages doing this at level 90: Do not spell-steal Sjonnir's Lightning Shield! It gets scaled up with your power and will most likely kill the boss before you have killed the required number of oozes.

I did this as Deathknight level 90, it was simply and easy.
Didn't hit any diseases, only using rune strike, death strike and hear strike to get health of the boss to little under 50%,
then slames started to walk from both sides.
I kited the boss out of center to near of entrance of last chamber,
then slames transformed into Iron Sludges which moved toward me after transforming, then I simply killed five of them and nuked boss down.

For those Monks soloists who may not already realize this - your Swift Reflexes will continue to do damage every time you parry an attack.

Once he drops from 50% down to bellow 25% the adds will stop, so not only must you kite but play keep away as best you can.
Until such time as you get 5 of those sludges forming you will be doing a lot of running around in circles.
Don't bother going after the sludges since your Swift Reflexes will do enough damage to them on it's own while you wait for the 5th one to form.

Soloed this with my 85 death knight in Cataclysm dungeon and rep gear. Did it in blood spec in unholy presence. Just DPS Sjonnir to 50% health while killing the troggs. When the oozes spawn and turn into iron sludges kill them with death strike so you don't damage Sjonnir which would happen if you used heart strike. You want to keep Sjonnir above 25% health or he will stop spawning sludges. Once you get 5 you can finish him off. I got distracted and lost count so I wound up doing 7.

Accidentally killed the boss with a single auto-swing when it proc'ed Seal of Truth + Mark of the Shattered Hand. Ilvl 666 Ret paladin. Unequip your weapon and turn off proc damage (like seals/etc) if you want to be able to not kill him while getting him to the 50% that the oozes require.

For other lvl100 BM Hunters trying to solo this:

This achieve can be a pain because you need to get Sjonnir down to between 25-50% and keep him there until he spawns the oozes and they mutate, and it's super easy to kill this guy.

I stripped down to nothing and went right up to Sjonnir but it wouldn't let me attack at all without a ranged weapon so I re-equipped my bow and used Explosive Traps to bring him down slowly.

Explosive Trap is awesome for this. I'd shoot a trap out a bit, then run across it and it'd do some damage, then do it again until he hit 50%. Not sure if the traps would do too much damage with gear equipped or not, I only had my bow on though and it took maybe three traps to get him right to 50%. Once he hits 50% you just have to wait for the oozes to mutate and then kill 5 of them, then Sjonnir.

Achieved at level 100.. I used my hunter. Since they spawn at 50%, I played it safe and took off most of my gear, especially my gun, and put my pet on passive. Then I punched him to 50%, took out the spawns with my fists of fury, and waited for the iron sludges to form. Worked like a charm.

I just did this on my lvl 100 (ilvl 718) MM hunter. I simply unequipped everything and punched the boss until he went under 50%. Then I stopped and waited for enough oozes to spawn and transform. They died with a simple punch. After 5 or more died I killed the boss and got the achievement. Hope this can be of help for other desperate lvl 100s!

If you are going back and doing this as a max-level, remember to turn off any abilities you have which will automatically retaliate. Holy Shield, for example, on a Protection Paladin, will deal nearly 4k damage to targets whenever you block. Since you will block nearly everything, this means that you might kill the boss without meaning to, meaning you have to come back a day later to try again!

Clarification:

To get the achievement, you need to kill 鐵淤泥怪. There are 2 types of slimes during the encounter, they look different and have different names.

The boss will spawn 畸形軟泥怪 periodically, once there are enough 畸形軟泥怪, they will form into one 鐵淤泥怪. Make sure to wait, if you kill the boss prematurely, you won't get credit for the achievement and need to wait until tomorrow for ID reset.

Don't bring the boss down to 25%. Helpful adds will spawn, kill the boss before you get enough Iron Sludges and ruin your day.

Just did it on my 120 Ret Pally. Took all my gear off and punched him as needed. First punch took him down to 69% and second punch to 38% then just waited for Iron Sludges to form and took great care to only punch them until I had killed 5 and then punched boss a couple more times and the achieve was done. If you are lvl100+, you can use 全身縮小符咒 to burn him slowly below 50% as you will be dealing only 1% of your original damage. You don't even need to get naked. You need to activate it before combat. It may take time to reach him with reduced walking speed so also take aggro distance into account.

1. level 120.
2. Unequip absolutely everything.
3. Use your lowest dmg spells or abilities until Sjonnir has 50% health remaining.
4. Malformed ooze will start spawning, let them combine into Iron sludges.
5. Wait until there are 5 Iron sludges out there, or 6-7 just to be sure.
6. Single target them all.
7. Kill boss.

I did this successfully by dying out of the Dungeon to get the debuff from spirit healer. Maybe you need to drop your gear to do less damage. Now just down him to 40-50% and wait for the adds you need. Kill 5 of these and you recive the achievement.

Note: My druid was level 120 with item level 413. Without the hint above you will probably one shot everything as healer too.

I have done this twice without receiving the achievement...I felt very confident I completed the task the first time - then today I waited for more than ten sludge's just to be sure - again no achievement...very disheartening since now I have to wait once again for a reset...anyone have any hints on what I may have done wrong?

I was having difficulty as a 120 BM hunter even with no pet, completely naked, and punching. One punch wasn't enough to take him below 50% for some reason, and two punches killed him. I unequipped all trinkets and neck pieces, too. I guess I had some powerful punches. Part of the problem was that my punch to aggro him took like almost 50% of his health, but not quite enough to start spawning oozes. It was frustrating because math-wise he should have stayed up past 2 but he wasn't.

This is what finally worked for me, if you also 2HKO Sjonnir or are otherwise just not quite getting it right:

1) Go get the Red Rider Air Rifle Toy and some ammo for it.
2) Go to Halls of Stone, get fully naked before this boss.
3) Aggro boss with Rifle. It does barely any damage.
4) I hit him again with the rifle and he seemed to take a tiny ding. At that point I punched, and he went to about 45% health (thanks to the rifle ding). Oozes began to spawn, which turned to sludges, and I was golden.

For those max leveled characters who are struggling on the achievement due to one shotting the boss:

The best way to lower your dps is to take off all of your gear and have resurrection sickness. This way you can do a lot less damage to the boss. (Of course, at the cost of some heavy repair fees.)

120 Druid:

1) respec to Guardian (doesn't matter if you any gear, see step 2)
2) Unequip EVERYTHING, stay in humanoid form
3) create a macro:
/tar Iron Sludge
/cast Moonfire
4) run up to boss, punch in the face ONCE (I think that took him to 30%)
5) TURN AWAY FROM BOSS IMMEDIATELY, and press ESC so you don't have him targeted (reduces risk you'll accidentally punch him in the face again)
6) wait until you have a a bunch of Iron Sludges up (or just hit that macro as they form)
7) doesn't seem like you need to be facing your target to Moonfire it, so just spam that macro
8) once you know you've killed at least 5, you can turn around and Moonfire Sjonnir
9) win

ALL of this is done in humanoid form.

Just did this as a level 50 in Pre-patch On a BM Hunter

1. TOOK OFF EVERYTHING
2. Dismiss pet
3. pull and punch twice, got him to 30% with 2 punches
4. Instantly turned away and pressed escape
5. let the iron sludges just pile up, when they got wrapped totally around me I punched the ones infront, after I knew I had more then 5.
6. Turn around and punch Sjonnir in the face

This is one where you want a lowbie character. I took my level 50 brewmaster. I did crackling jade lightning (which does very low damage). After 2 tickts he was at 25% and started spawning oozes. Wait 30 sec. Single target the oozes. Then kill the boss.

It is extremely important while doing this, to make sure Sjonnir remains between 49-26%. Over 50%, he simply won't summon the oozes yet. Under 25%, he'll start summoning iron dwarves which actually damage (and usually kill) the boss. 全身縮小符咒 is easily the most consistent way to reduce your damage output at high levels. Make sure to let the 畸形軟泥怪 adds combine, an effect indicated by a golden 'shield-like' glow forming around them. Then simply DPS down 5 of the 鐵淤泥怪 adds that spawn from the combined oozes before finishing off the boss, and you've got your 虐待軟泥怪!

As of DF expansion. Before you start the fight unequip everything and use 全身縮小符咒. Reach out 50%, wait for the oozes to merge into the iron ones. Kill 5 of them and your good to go.

Did this achievement today as a hunter.
Removed all my gear, used Whole-Body Shrinka' and changed to a spec where i don't have any talents.
Got the boss down to 25.2% in two melee hits (61.8% in one hit) and then just waited for the oozes to spawn.

Just did this on my 80 mage. Here's quick step by step guide on how I did it:

Prior to entering combat, I removed all gear, switched from frost to fire (ideally, make sure the spec you switch to has zero unlocked talents), and activated the Whole-Body Shrinka' toy. After entering combat, I cast fireball a couple times then switched to fire blast until he was within the required 49-26% HP range (if on different class/spec, cast your lowest hitting spells to get a gauge on how to progressively bring him down). Once you reach 49%, Malformed Ooze will begin to swarm to the center of the arena. Do NOT kill them. Once they reach the center, they will begin to form into Iron Sludge. Once you have killed 5 of them, you can nuke the boss.

And that's it! Grats on your Abuse the Ooze!
