When you talk to the dying archaeologist a dwarf appears and speaks before turnign into Lorthic the Black and activating Obsidion. Thes guys hit very hard and can take a lot of damage. I did manage to take them once at a time, by first accepting the quest fromt eh archaeologist and then as the dwarf is taunting you running toward the ramp that leads upward. I was far enough away that it agro'd just Obsidion after dealing with him I was easily able to take on the dwarf elite.

Obsidian is a level 52 elite. Not easy to solo.

Tried this as a level 49 Shammy and with a level 64 priest helping me. Needless to say we failed... three times...

評論來自 Qwiggalo

Lathoric is Sheepable, but Obsidion is immune to frost nova.

Umm i've had problems trying to start this quest as a 49 Shaman...the dying archeologist next to Obsidion doesn't have an ! and the altar won't give quest either.... yet my 48 friend was able to...

Bug i suppose?

Lathoric the Black and Obsidion are both level 46 nonelites as of 11-13-07 - Patch 2.3

評論來自 50558

As of 2.3 this quest is super easy. I remember dying several times on my main trying to do it....

Obsidion now has about 2800 health (down from 16k pre-patch). Lathoric the Black has about the same. Easily soloable by anyone in the appropriate level range.

評論來自 Hyle

Be sure to let the quest play out. Do not try to summon them with the altar or you will have to deal with two Lathorics

評論來自 Velothi

I already thought the assassination was a bit weird, wasn't to surprised with Dorius raising out of 'death'

評論來自 miles4607

Yeah Hyle is right just wait for the quest. I Used the altar and i had to fight two Lathoric's! I thought it was a bug at first!

評論來自 Thottbot

If you die doing the quest you do not need to abandon/retake (this seems to be kinda buggy here anyway), instead just use the altar and they are resummoned. Just thought I'd share something it took this slow-witted person a while to work out.

評論來自 Thottbot

Okay- glad I read this cuz one guy said he just ran away; they disappeared; and he was able to loot... but you wouldn't get their heads if you did that.

Now I'll wait till a couple lvl 60 buddies are on to help this 56 pally... :)

Just finished the quest with a level 60 rogue, and myself a level 55 rogue.
Begin by clearing the room a little bit then summoning the two. Have one rogue pull the dwarf while the other waits to cheap shot and expose armor. then alternate kidney shots so that he is stunned for the majority of the battle.
Once he is dead restealth and go for obsidion. Have first cheapshot get the rest of combo points and expose armor. When teh first cheap shot wears off the second rogue can sheap shot and get a full kidney shot. Continue to alternate kidney shots until he falls.

評論來自 Thottbot

I have tried this quest like 10 times now, I have dropped it, got it back, killed the dwarf and the obsidion is always standing and never does anything when he is summoned. I'd just drop this quest and move on if I didnt need the pants...

評論來自 Thottbot

Over the past two days myself as well as a number fo other groups had a problem with Obsidian not being attackable. This has been reported a number of times. I am gonna wait till after this weeks maintenance and go again. "Tis a small world aand ye are neve' alone"

評論來自 Thottbot

I attempted this quest 3 times so far when @ level 47, our whole group was wiped by 3 elite dwarves and Obsidion. Is there only supposed to be the one dwarf?

評論來自 Thottbot

Well I remember i solo'd both the dudes (at the same pull) with my pala at lvl60. Killed them single pulling with my 60 priest.
And I'm pretty sure i'm going to solo it again with my 56 warlock, going to do it tomorrow probably and will let ya know.

評論來自 Thottbot

well, I was a bit over-estimating my lock it seems :/
I killed Lathoric The Black without a problem alone but stopped after 4 tries on Obsidion
Allways had him down to about 50% but because my void could never hold agro, Obsidion couldn't be feared and hits very hard I had to give up :(
Anyway gonna try again at lvl58, alone
With 2ppl at lvl54-56 it is doable if u are good I think, and it is certenly doable as lvl60 (allready did like described above)

評論來自 Thottbot

And by the way there's no bug to see (anymore)

you can summon and kill dwarf but obsidion is impossible to attack.......

Took them both out today at the same time with me (54 resto druid) healing and a 60 feral druid tanking. Took out obsidian first, then the dwarf was cake in comparison. Was a long fight, took 2 innervates, but we were never really in danger.

anyways i tried it again and was able to kll the 52 elite, got his head and died. i used the ss and killed the stone guy=)

This quest is way outta whack. It is green for me at lvl 60 and no way I can take the 2 of them. Feared right off to get 1-on-1 with Obsidion but its impossible to win with one. He can take down shield in 2 hits and then it is constant heal till you run out of mana and then you either run away or get killed. You have to have 2 and one better be a good tank.

評論來自 Thottbot

started quest, stood back, Lathoric spawned, Obsidion stood on top of him, couldn't pull one at a time. died trying to just get the hell out of there. each of them hits for 200-300 non crit on a plate wearer : /. eff this quest.

EDIT: upon returning to my dead body, only Obsidion was left standing there, so i buffed up and tried to fight him solo...yeah, it didn't happen. this is not easy at all.

評論來自 Thottbot

60 Hunter. Solo.
Died the first time I tried. Ressed, got only Obsidion, killed him.
Went back, clicked the altar again. Got distance right away so I didn't aggro.
Layed frosttrap and pulled with aimed shot, both over a frost trap, multi-shot, serpent sting. Then kited(cheetah) Lathoric back towards the gate by the entrance using serpent sting and arcane shot.(patch 2.0.1) Feigned once and Obisidion started running back. Went into melee with my pet on Lathoric as well (had too much aggro from all damage to transfer aggro to the pet).
Then Obsidion returned but I managed to finish the fight with Lathoric in melee and with pet before Obsidion almost crushed me. Then feigned to reset Obsidion and looted Lathoric. Easy? No, not at all.
I got mostly ZG and MC gear. 9 epics, the rest is good blue items.

Or bring a friend and you'll do fine :)

Good luck!

評論來自 Thottbot

Cleared the room and cleared the room before (south) too. The two are not linked so I pulled the dwarf, and ran backwards, healing and having to use my bubble (with both of them on me).

By the time I had backed into the second room, Obsidion had ran back to his spawn point (as I hadn't touched him yet). I was able to solo the dwarf with fair ease.

Once I killed him I drank/buffed up and took on Obsidion. He's a lot harder than he looks, but I was able to do it with careful healing and eventually a mana pot.

評論來自 Thottbot

my elemental stayed on one side of the room, me on another. i started with frostbolt cast on obsidian, then ordered my pet to attack him. i sheeped humanoid. frostbolting obsidian till 2 ice barriers were down. Then i poped ice block, waited till obsidian got close to my pet, canceled ice block, casted some more frostbolts. Obsidian killed my pet so i used cold snap, summoned another elemental, got away from my pet a bit and repeated the same tactic. When obsidian died i run away to lose aggro and refill my health and mana bars.
Lathoric is an easy fight - frostbolts, nova, run away frostbolts...

Just finished tonight. I'm a 50 def pally and grouped with a 49 off pally. When we first tried we got wiped even with lay of hands, bubbles and help from a 48 undead rogue. We came back and Obsidion was still there so we took him out fairly easily(long battle through). We then re-summoned the mage and golem with the intent of just killing the mage, collecting the head and dying. We managed through and killed both at the same time.

I was the puller and made sure to keep both on me at all times. This is easy with the mage but not with Obsidion. When Obsidion does his knock back, he will then go after the nearest target. So, I had to use Righteous Defense to pull them back on me. With both of us focusing on the mage he dropped fast(with grenades, mechanical dragonling, battle chicken, etc). Then we focused on Obsidion. This was a long fight because the off pally spent most of the time back away from combat getting mana back to heal. This time no LOF, bubbles or help from a rogue.

評論來自 Thottbot

Did it 3 times with a 53 paladin, 49 druid and 49 priest. Easy as cake, just concentrate your attacks on the small guy first and have someone tank the bigger guy.

The loot is not group loot... So that's why we did it 3 times, unless this was just a bug.

Also did it one more time at 54 with a 51 rogue and 49 druid, there was 2 dwarf spawns and 1 obsidion killed it without too many problems.

評論來自 Thottbot

Considering I solo'd thsi as a 70 prot warrior with three trash mobs beating on me aswell this should be easy for any 70 of another class. :]

評論來自 Thottbot

I don't know whether this quest has been nerfed but none of the sneaky methods for soloing worked for me. You can't pull just one (they spawn right next to each other); you can't kite them into the next room until one of them loses aggro (he loses aggro but comes right back a few seconds later); you can't kill one and then respawn only the other.

I've killed obsidion solo on my level 60 priest and I'm sure I could kill the dwarf if I could get him on his own ... but I've not found a way to do that yet.

評論來自 Thottbot

Finished it with a 58 and 53 rogue and a 52 hunter.

rogue spawns the guys, then vanishes, sap the dwarf, then kill the obsidion, took us about 40seconds to kill the golem so it worked out well. The guy has a nasty habbit of just switching who he attacks regardless of causing threat, so careful with weak characters in your party.

Tried it with just the 58 rogue and 52 hunter first, the two elites together were just too much, they're definitely tough.

評論來自 Thottbot

I think you have to do this https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=3367/桑塔拉之石 to do the obsidion stuff

評論來自 Thottbot

Just did it with a 52 demonology lock, 53 enhancement shammy and 54 elemental shammy (me). We nuked the mage first and then did obsidian. Wasn't too bad. We wiped once but that was cos the lock was still able to aggro the mobs just by being in range (they were grey for me and the other shammy). If you clear the area first it is able to be done without much trouble.

Ever had a quest you just won't let lie? I can finally lay this one to rest.

Solo'd as a L60 Feral spec druid, equipped with some greens from Outlands earnt while going from L58-L60 there. Nothing special.

Still took me 3 attempts. First was a whitewash. Second for some reason I managed to kill Lathoric as I died, so I went back to find Obsidion on his own, put him down, got his Heart, but the body of Lathoric had vanished.

So on the 3rd attempt I decided just to concentrate on Lathoric and grab his Head as he died, even if I then went on to die. Actually managed to take down both that time.

Mark of the Wild, Thorns and Omen of Clarity all active before starting. Ate some food to get a +12 Sta/Spi buff. Quaffed a potion for +25 strength. As I used the altar, hit Regrowth to give me some initial healing and then shifted to Dire Bear.

Attacked Lathoric only, using Feral Faerie Fire and Demoralizing Roar to debuff. Maul as much as possible. Had to switch out to druid once, Barkskin, Heal and back to bear. Used Frenzied Regeneration and stunned Obsidion once to switch to druid again and get a healing potion down, followed by a heal. Eventually Lathoric went down, and as I was still 50% HP, just kept going (after grabbing the Head just in case) and Obsidion wasn't hard after that - another stun and druid shift heal and it was soon over.

Pity the rewards are irrelevant now, but at least I can say I've done it :)

New patch makes these guys into pansies. Go take 'em out!

評論來自 Thottbot

Lathoric the black is now level 46 non-elite
Obsidion is also level 46 non-elite now.

I pwned them in about 15 sec both (51 lev hunter).

評論來自 Thottbot

Neither of the two are elites any longer, so it is a lot easier to solo this. I did, at level 49 with a warrior. Used Retaliation and attacked Obsidion first. After he was down I turned to the caster, who oddly enough was also melee attacking me, so I was hitting him the entire time as well, which put him at lower health.

評論來自 Thottbot

I looked at the comments at the top and read how it was a near impossible quest for the level you get it at, but realized that they were over a year old. I decided to give it a try as a 52 hunter thinking that it must have gotton easier since it was a green non elite quest. Obsidian and the dwarf guy were each level 46 with about 3000 health each. Took them down in seconds.

評論來自 Thottbot

how do you get the quest for this do you have two do something before help me plz

評論來自 Thottbot

when i got to the dying guy he didnt give me the quest

評論來自 Thottbot

this is still tough for a mage to solo and i was lvl51.

why, Obsidion is immune to CC so no using frost nova hence he's hitting you and stunning you while you most probably sheeped Lathoric the Black.

best way i found was to use arcane missiles and fire blast to nuke him. resheep Lathoric the Black and bandage up. then kill him which is easy as pie compared to obsidion.

oh dont double click the summoning stone as you will spawn 2xLathoric the Black and that will finish you off very quickly. dunno if its a bug or not but just be patient will summoning :p

評論來自 Thottbot

I had no idea this was a group quest...In fact, I don't think it said group in the first place...

So I was like: I'll just solo it as a 48 rogue, and I did.
Wasn't that hard.
I just made sure the big one, Obsidion, died first.
The dwarf whimp was easy as pie.

'nuf said ;>

The quest is quite bugged atm.

First we killed the dwarf, but while fighting the big guy (when the dwarf already died) all of a sudden there came a second dwarf (and we all died)...

So we thought the big guy had ressurected the dead dwarf and next time we first attacked him, but while fighting him (and leaving the dwarf alone) still a second dwarf spawned and it ended up by all of us being killed again.

But eventually, after a lot of dying, we got the items.

Our party consisted of a lvl47, 3 lvl49's and a lvl58

評論來自 Allakhazam

55-57 rogue paladin and priest messed these two up. I mind controlled that dumb dwarf and messed up Obdidion with him. After MC broke, though it was a matter of Power Word: Shielding and Flash Heals while the rogue tried to stun lock until he was dead.

He was hitting it for like 250-320 o.O

評論來自 Allakhazam

Just did this quest, we killed Lathoric and then Obsidian wouldn't engage combat!

評論來自 Allakhazam

no reason you need to fight them both at once, simply use the altar an run to a safe distance

an then attack them one at a time... the golem is still a mongrel for hunters... dont try to solo him.

評論來自 Allakhazam

I did this quest today with a lvl60 pally and hunter. I was easy except stupid lag made me die. Oh and i think the quest is on some kind of timer, cause when the pally and i wiped on it the mob disappeared after awhile and i couldn't click on the alta again. But then we ran around clearing the room a bit and when i came back it was clickable again. Plus i didn't have to abandon quest. good luck.

評論來自 Allakhazam

This quest is still f*d up in difficulty.

Level 52, yeah right. Effectively 62 if you try soloing.

評論來自 Allakhazam

Okay yes, I know I'm crazy, but I just had to try it solo. I did the turn-in and waited for the Dwarf to spawn and his golem to rise. I ran up and presense-aggroed Lathoric, and proceeded to slowly beat him down no problem; his head was mine. By the time I was prepared to fight Obsidion, it decided to take a nap or something. No matter; I just abandoned the quest, started it again, and ran to the other side so I could get the monster solo.

Thus began the epic battle between Righteous, the wee level 55 Dwarf paladin, and Obsidion, the giantic level 52 (Elite) black golem. They traded each other blow for blow (though the Golem's were just slightly harder ;)), the Paladin healed himself like a mofo, went OOM, Lay On Hands! The fight went on, and on, and on.. Over five minutes of this (though it seemed an eternity), but finally, the Paladin found himself out of tricks, out of mana, and eventually out of health; Obsidion did stand, at 35% life. Oh, ladies and gentlemen, it was a time of sadness and mourning. The Brave Knight's ghost floated back to his corpse, re-entered the body, and the alive-but-defeated paladin slumped away in shame.

Had Righteous not found a level 60 mage farming Mageweave Cloth on his way out, there was no telling what would have happened to him. As it is, folks, this story does have a happy ending. The Mage agreed to help burn that no-good son-of-boulder down to the ground. With new vigor, and now a new teammate, the Paladin made that miserable Dwarf raise the sleepy Obsidion again. The extra damage was all the Holy Avenger needed! Soon the Golem was reduced to a heaping pile of rocks. Righteous, the ever-so-grateful paladin thanked the Mage and rejoiced at his victory. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!

評論來自 Allakhazam

Me and another level 55 paladin kept getting wiped by these two. The quest is bugged, BUT....
After some tinkering we discovered the following:

When you place the item on the altar, back away...far away out of aggro range. The dwarf and obsidian will just stand there. You can then single pull the dwarf, kill him and then you just have to deal with obsidian.

And yes, 2 is TOO few to deal with them at the same time. lol!

評論來自 Allakhazam

I just finished the quest with the help of a few friends of mine. I picked up the items needed to complete the quest, but when i return to IF to turn it in, the quest mob is praying in front of a statue and wont let me talk to him. That isnt normal is it?

Finally got a L60 Pally, L60 Hunter, myself, and a L53 Mage that was wandering around. We got it done...but it was brutal. Sheeped the little guy, attacked the big guy, finally dropped him, then finished off the little guy. Rec'd over 7000 XP at Ironforge when I turned this in.

Whew!

評論來自 Allakhazam

They aren't linked, I'm dumb -_-

Lathoric has ~12k hp and isn't that tough.

Obsidion has ~16k hp, more armor, and hit for ~250 on plate fairly often, much more difficult. The fight was a very very long one against my paladin.

評論來自 QuentinMontagis

You can solo 1v1 each of the target mob in this way -
1. turn Booty Bay rep to At War
2. summon with the alter
3. Lathric the Black will show up with yellow nameplates since he is with Booty Bay, and you can engage him before he summons Obsidion, then loot his head
4. You can turn off Booty Bay At War now. Summon again with the alter, run far away so you don't face aggro Lathric or Obsidion. Wait for ~3mins or so and Lathric will disappear while Obsidion stands alone there, engage Obsidion and get the heart
5. Reward!

Both elites are still pretty hard even on 1v1 tho. Obsidion hits super hard on me (53 Rogue). Found a 51 Rogue to help me with it.

評論來自 Brofest

At level 60 i've got 1g83s, and only 80 rep to IF, not 200.

I thought I'd summarize and expand upon the easy mode version of this quest. The idea is that you can fight the two elite mobs separately by following these instructions making the fight somewhat easier. It is still a difficult fight, especially 奧比斯頓. But if you have a small group with an odd mix match of roles this could help you out.

1. Obtain the quest: 奧比斯頓
2. Click on the 蘇塔拉祭壇
3. Run away and get up on the nearby ramp.
4. From the ramp you can watch 奧比斯頓 and 黑衣拉索里克 from a safe distance.
5. Wait five minutes, 黑衣拉索里克 will now despawn and leave 奧比斯頓 standing alone.
6. You now have five minutes to engage 奧比斯頓 before he also despawns.
7. Kill 奧比斯頓
8. Wait until the altar is clickable again.
9. Open your reputation panel, set Booty Bay to - At War.
10. Click the altar.
11. Attack and kill 黑衣拉索里克 before he summons 奧比斯頓

OK, really dumb question - but how do I get back to my corpse? I had to take a flight to get there in the first place, and the map shows my corpse as being at Thorium point, not in the cave.

You can kite the bosses around a pillar for an easy kill in SOD. Still requires a group to get the random mobs cleaned up, and speed up the kill.

Requires you to do the quest chain starting with Suntara Stones, to obtain this quest, given by Dorius Stonetender. First quest is an escort and you will need a tank+healer full party to do the chain.

評論來自 Denozavrich

Managed to solo the quest with a 57-lvl warlock in SoD (36-0-12). Haunt+Felguard
As in other comments,
1. First I turned on the war mode with Booty Bay
2. Then I killed Lathoric
3. Waited 5 minutes to click the altar
4. Waited another 5 minutes for Lathoric to despawn
5. Barely killed Obsidion. I used one superior healing potion and a healthstone.

I haven't used it during the successful run, but if you are a warlock, you can siphon life from the lying dwarf while at war with Booty Bay. He won't stand up until about 5% of his health is left.

Accidentally Obsidion also killed a bunch of people doing the Blackrock Eruption dailies.

評論來自 Lucifa42

Posting for hardcore and how the quest works.

When you accept the quest there is 15-20 seconds of RP then both dwarf and Obsidion will go red, so if you are in a party do a countdown and all accept the quest from the dead dwarf. There is no "do you want to start this quest" like an escort quest.

You can back away from them after accepting and start the fight on your own terms.

Kill the dwarf first then Obsidion but know that he hits HARD and stuns, you want a good tank ideally with shield and be ready to push defensive cooldowns. You will absolutely need a healer.
Level wise the higher the better. It would be very sketchy with a full group of low 50s, I was 57 war tank and had to pot and use shield wall.
