This quest completes at Inspector Tarem (29.6,47.5), located just outside of the inn, who will then use powder to help 'illuminate' the "clues." This basically causes purple arrows to appear, pointing at the individual quest objects strewn about the destroyed inn. Obtaining and completing this quest is not necessary, as the quest chains can be started directly from the objects regardless.

From the Shady Rest Inn (29.4,47.5), the quest branches into three paths, each starting when a different item gets looted.
The first quest for each chain will have you bring the three items to Krog in Brackenwall Village.

Loot the Black Shield (29.6,48.6):

Loot the Suspicious Hoofprints (29.7,47.7):

Suspicious Hoofprints

Loot the Theramore Guard Badge (29.8,48.2):

After completing all three quest chains, Krog will offer a fifth The Black Shield quest, asking players to bring the Blackened Iron Shield to Mosarn (55.6,79.6) in Thunder Bluff.

Mosarn will then volunteer new information regarding the "mystery" and starts the following short chain:

When these three quests have been completed, Krog will direct you to Tabetha (46.0,57.1) for further progression and conclusion:

Trivia:

Although the name is a little different, this is most likely a reference to "Moser's Blessed Circle", an exceptional unique shield in "that other Blizzard game" Diablo 2.

The shield's (and NPCs) name is in turn a reference to Mark Moser, who of course is a Blizzard employee. He works in Quality Assurance.

There is a quest after this, in which he asks you to show the shield to "Mosarn" in Thunder Bluff; an experienced blacksmith. However, I searched all of TB but to no avail, and searched up the name here on thottbot and could not find it...does anyone else know about this?

評論來自 Thottbot

I finished the quest, and clicked 'complete quest' in thunder bluff without reading what he said... and there was no real reward besides some xp, is there ANOTHER part?

評論來自 Thottbot

It's called Suspicious Hoofprints, you get it by going back to the in, just out side the front there are some hoofprints, right click on that and you'll get the next part

評論來自 Thottbot

i finished the blackened shield quest and went to mosarn, but i can't speak to him? what do i have to do?

評論來自 Thottbot

This seems to be a dead end. The text from Mosarn basically says something along the lines of I make a ton of shields I can't be expected to remember every single one and stop there.. you get some XP and the mystery stops.. sad cause I was really getting into the story on this one.

評論來自 Thottbot

krog wont ask me to show the shield to mosarn, how come?

評論來自 Thottbot

OMG
After i get the acid and i c the name on the shield, i give the shield to the guy in Brakenwall Village then he says he "doesnt remember the name" SOME PLZ HELP

評論來自 Thottbot

ok people... this is not the best storyline ever, but it does have an end and if u think about it, it does make sense.

I think Mosarn was the one who started the fire, his shield was there PLUS the hoof prints...tauren...hoofprints...understand?

that's what i think blizzard is trying to get at. SO DONT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO FIND ANOTHER QUEST AFTER U GO TO TB...CAUSE THERE ISNT ONE...THE CHAIN IS COMPLETE

評論來自 Thottbot

this quest works fine...

u get 3 quest from the inn.
when the poison has been collected and they are done, head southeast from brackenwall village. at the road you'll find a ogre with a quest, and he will lead you to Paval Reethe.
After some talking back and forward, 4 theramore guards show up and you need to kill them (i soloed as 37 rogue, easy)

return to brackenwall and now you get quest to go to thunder bluff where the quest finally ends at Mosarn at 'The hunter rise'

評論來自 Thottbot

He was at 40,36.

He interrogates Reethe and you have to kill a few 3 41-43 humans.

評論來自 Thottbot

This was the only quest yet in WoW that ive found where you need to THINK and not just READ. :D

評論來自 Thottbot

Ok, i turned in the quest with the venom, and he told me to go talk to the other guy in the village. So i did, and now i'm stuck... i went over to the ogre to the southeast but he doesn't give me a quest yet... Am a missing a step in between these? Some1 help please!

評論來自 Thottbot

I think the quest has to do with the kidnapped Stormwind King on the island with the elites off the coast, and more quest will be added on from I have heard rumours in the expansion. Just like Zul Gurub etc, sometimes quests dead end, but more is added when they have the content to end the story. somehow the burning of the inn will be linked with his abduction (the captors were hiding him or something and they destroyed the inn because the innkeeper found out, misplace suspicion by putting a Tauren Shield there to make alliance assume it was horde who destroyed the inn, and an alliance badge so horde assumes alliance (or alliance rebels) did it in.

Just a thought. Whether Blizzard ends this or not, I have a good story going!

評論來自 Thottbot

Spoke to Krog, and he now says he doesn't know who Mosarn is, and the quest ends, thats it, no ! to show that more quests are available.
No trip to Thunder Bluff as stated by other people.

So went did hoofprints one, and on return he sends of a scout to follow tracks, and again thats it no more, the whole quest line just comes to an abrupt end.

Strange, is this quest line broken!, or am I missing something.

評論來自 Thottbot

OK sorry, I thought that Krog would give me a quest to go find the troll who then sends you on to Reethe, like all other quest lines I've completed before!.

評論來自 Thottbot

Ok, to summarise what everyone said:

The shield leads u down a 4 part quest:
*Taking the shield to Krol
*Taking it to the ogre blacksmith
*Finding the Acid
*Taking it back to Krol

The badge is a 2 part quest:
*Taking the badge to Krol
*Going to the ogre south east of Brackenwall and killing the humans.

The footprints lead nowhere so far as i can see. You merely take word of them to Krol and he sends away a scout, and thats it...

After doing all these parts, talk to Krol and he will tell you to go to Thunder Bluff to find the blacksmith.

評論來自 Thottbot

ok i did all three parts but is their anything after that?

評論來自 Thottbot

the quest ends at the hunter's rise because the programmers at BLIZZARD that were working on it quit in the "Great Exodus" and thus the dustwallow quests were never truly finished on either side

評論來自 Thottbot

do u guys notice that most of the quests at dustwallow (for horde at least..) are tinged with a creepy mystery...

1. The whole shady inn questline

2. Captain's reports (the two spies)

3. Lost report

and the marsh environment fits perfectly for these kinds of quest... if blizzard meant to do this, i give Dustwallow Marsh 5 stars

評論來自 Thottbot

When i finished the quest to speak with the last guy, i can't get another quest, do i have to go to TB now? or do something else?

評論來自 Thottbot

IS the second part of the badge quest only for allaince? Ima a Blood Elf mage and it ended once i showed him the badge.

Weres Orgon?

評論來自 Thottbot

O.K. I did the quest above and i will expalin it all.

Step 1: Go to Brakenwall Village in Dustwallowmarsh and talk to Krog. He will tell you about this Burning Inn.

Step 2: Go the Inn which is on the border between Barrens and Dustwallow Marsh. When your there you need to get 3 items: The Black Shield on the wall, the Hoofprint just to the left when your looking at the Inn, and finally a small badge on a plank of burnt wood just left of the shield. it will be on the ground.

Step 3: Go back to Krog. Show him the 3 things. For the Black Shield just go to the Blacksmith behind u in the village and kill the spiders. For the prints, Krog will send a scout to track them. Last he will tell you to go talk to Reethe. First you have to go find Orgon, he is at 40, 36 and then follow him to Reethe. 4 guards come, all lvl 36. Kill them.

Step 4: Once all 3 quests are done go back to Krog. He will have a quest to go find Morsan. He is at Thunder Bluff on the Hunter Rise. Once you do that the whole chain ends. Nothing left that I know. They don't find who burnt the Inn. I would go back to the Inn just to look around for something else.

評論來自 Thottbot

This quest chain is the best I've played. If played out to it's end you find that the grimtotem clan brnt the inn in an attempt to drive humans from the swamp, and that the forsaken were somehow involved. You get to brn down an entire grimtotem village in the swamp to punish those responsible. The rewards are wonderful also. You just have to pay attention to everything. If you're stuck, go back and talk to the last guy you turned a quest in to. They have follow up quests that are easy to miss.

commnt above was perfect bout going to the cave great rate

評論來自 Thottbot

There is a quest that pops up after you talk to the Tauren. Called Return to Krog. Gives a reward of a Dagger, MAil Helm or 1H sword. It did not automatically open. I had to go back and retalk to him.

Full Reethe Questline Info

It's a long story following Rethe's mystery on both alliance and horde side. I will tell the alliance side of things. I can also confirm it works in classic, you just need to get the required prequests. Questie will show the badge on the map, even if you didn't complete the prequests yet.

Alliance starts with 詹姆士·海爾 and the followup 詹姆士·海爾 OR 他們叫他微笑的吉姆 (you can do only one of the prerequisites)

Once you got these prerequisites you will be able to loot the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 and 雷瑟的徽章 as well as inspect 蹄印 in the burned down Inn in Dustwallow Marsh at 29 47.

The badge is really small sitting on a plank in the middle of the inn, the shield hangs on the chimney, the hoofprints are in front of the house.

These items start 3 quest:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉
黑色盾牌
可疑的蹄印

You are then send around 2 more times to other NPCs with the shield:

黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌

And the badge continues to the following questline:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉
戴林的下屬
叛逃者
叛逃者

There is no follow-up to this quest, though you do get a bit more from the Horde's perspective if you come back and do their side of the chain. The conclusion to the mystery was not added into the game until Patch 2.3, thus we won't be seeing it in Classic. That patch addressed many of the abrupt endings to quest chains in Dustwallow Marsh.

On Horde side:

帕瓦爾·雷瑟上尉 from 塞拉摩衛兵徽章

可疑的蹄印 from 蹄印

黑色盾牌 from 黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌
黑色盾牌

盤問雷瑟

After handing in 雷瑟的徽章 you get an escort quest to help an ogre go talk to him.
However before you can get anything out of him some alliance show up and kill him for treason.
After all three of them has been completed horde gets a quest to go talk to the smith of the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 in Thunderbluff.
Unfortunatly the smith cant possibly remember for whom he made the 被燻黑的鐵盾牌 so the quest ends there.
