Actually now with the new updates with spirit and priest healing buffs you can get 1.6 spirit = 1mp5 with talents and a plus 35% more healing on the spirit bonus.

These items dont work directly on spirit but they work on the mana regen created from spirit. thus more spirit = more mana regen from spirit. must just be that my spirit is high enough that it shows 1.6spirit =1mp5 on my add on.

In theory, direct regeneration is preferable over spirit-based regen, as it is not subject to the 5 second rule. If for example a priest could give away 8 spirit, and gain 5 mana/5, the latter would give the same regen as the spirit at all times, and thus be better (disregarding HP regen). The factor where Spi and mana/5 give the same base amount of regen (outside the 5 second rule) is 1.6 spi for 1 mana/5 for priests and mages, and 2 spi for all others.

The loss of mp5 from primal mooncloth is well made up by the extra stamina. Having enough HP to survive boss AoE abilities is important in high end raiding. The set bonus is also incredible for spamming low rank greater heal, if you overheal you get a good chunk of your mana back so its not a huge waste.

These dropped last week for me, a very nice stamina boost. Socketed with Purified Shadow Pearl. I had The Belt of the Long Road and purchased Gown of Spiritual Wonder. I socketed the +22 healing gem from MgT quest and I am most pleased with the replacement of the pmc set.

Not only that, you can change your tailoring specialty since it is no longer required.

Assuming 8 spirit gems in blue sockets and 18 healing gems in red sockets, compared to T4 these give:

+3 stamina
-4 intellect
+6 spirit
+13 healing

Not bad, but not as big an upgrade as I'd have expected.

Wish it had some Mana/5 instead of Spirit, but it's still a pretty considerable upgrade over Tier4 shoulders and Pauldrons of the Solace-Giver.

2 blue sockets are great for this piece to put in mp5 since the piece has none, plus the aldor/scryer enchants add mp5 too
