The Imperial Plate Armor. Every tankers dream. Problem is just, it does take quite a large amount of Thorium, and Star Ruby's as well.

Not to demean the value of this set (I am getting the plans regardless)

for 50-60g (about the cost of 80 thorium bars in Icecrown as of Jan 292007) at the AH, you can get yourself (at level 57) the green and common Grimscale set, I went for the "of the Beast" myself with the level 57 weapons being "of the Bandit".

You might have trouble or pay more if you want all beast and bandit, you can throu 'Champion' or say use a'of the Stamina' here and a 'of Strength' there. I also added 'Rugged Armor kits to all 4 possible slots, the +40 is included in the above numbers)

On the Dath'Remar server I tend to find the Imperial Plate set items selling well below mats cost as blacksmiths try to get their level up. A very cheap way to get the full set.

The individual pieces can probably be replaced by better items. However the overall set bonus is excellent. I'm not sure yet when I should replace this set armor as I'm a level 59 warrior now.
And yea it does look very nice!

In my opinion if you like sets then this is the first set to obtain for a warrior, followed by the Battlegear of Valor and on to (via upgrade) the Battlegear of Heroism. The Imperial Plate full set is a 7 piece set but extras are given for 2, 4, and 6, nothing for 7, as there are no gauntlets for this set , I found the Gauntlets of Valor to go well with this set and as I mentioned extras for 6 pieces only, if you obtain the Belt of Valor or the Bracers of Valor (all three valor items are bind when equip so available in AH) then you can benefit from the 3 set bonuses of the Imperial Plate and the +200 Armor of the Valor set. Giving +300 Armor. I found the Traveler's Cloak to be a good match to this set of Armor. The other items of Valor are bind when equip and need to be obtained by drops from raids. (see details for the Valor set) The Imperial Plate set can be either bought in AH or made quite easily as a Blacksmith with all plans available from one guy in Gadgetzan and wearable between lvls 47 and 56.

Just before Burning Crusade was released, many players chose to stockpile materials to level their tradeskills quickly when burning crusade dropped. I piled up 30 or so stacks of throium, and was able to powerlevel blacksmithing to over 320 on these old world mats by crafting these breastplates before I picked up even a single bar of fel iron.

Given that you need quite a lot of fel iron to skill up, and this item can be crafted with much more easily farmed mats, it may be worth considering even now.

Not comepletely useless for a quickly levelled warrior or retnoob, this chestpiece would be servicable enough for the 3-5 levels until you replace it with the rather impressive quest rewards available in hellfire peninsula.

For Clarification:

For the Alliance, you get the proper quest (Imperial Plate Armor) from Myolor Sunderfury in Ironforge.
You have to go to Derotain Mudsipper in Gadgetzan.

Suffixes are an interface bug. I believe it's a 3rd party interface bug, but given the frequency of reports...it could be with the core interface if you have access to the test server :o

The gloves are the Templar Gauntlets, which is the single pair of gloves that fits this set well (optically). I recommend the red-golden Praetorian Cloak for the back slot.

While we are on the subject of fitting equipment for the best self-made Armorsmith pieces, this is my recommendation for the 3 Enchanted Thorium Platemail parts:

- (Self-made) Enchanted Thorium Platemail (Chest, Legs, Helm); very expensive in terms of Arcanite 24 bars for all pieces), but doable
- (epic) Stockade Pauldrons (if you can afford this 300 gold item) or Heroic Pauldrons (same design as Stockade Pauldrons, but blue-grey color)
- Stonegrip Gauntlets (same design as Heroic Gauntlets, but slightly more grey) or Heroic Gauntlets (blue-grey)
- Deathbone Girdle (for the cool looking skull and better stats, grey color) or Heroic Girdle (blue-grey)
- Heroic Greaves (grey with excellent texture)
- Praetorian Cloak (red-golden color) or Mercurial Cloak (red color)

All "Enchanted Thorium Platemail" armor pieces got a BIG hit with the nerf stick in patch 1.7.0, as all pieces's defense values (actually the best stat on these) have been crippled by 33%. Thanks god, I didn't create the stuff yet.

This set is really nice for a warior at 55-58, but the expense of getting all the plans is more than enough to bankrupt any player. I have all the plans, and can make all the pieces for you. Just get the mats, and PST to Sudz / Horde / Archimonde

i didn't go for Templar Gauntlets,
but instead Truesilver Gauntlets. the Armor rating is only 28 points less, but it gives you both stamina and strength buffs, (much like the Imp. Plate set does).

plus it looks good with the set as well.

because of the bonus stats and base stats of this set alot of the peices can be worn well into 60 untill you get dungeon sets or the raid sets.. i am down to 2 parts the legs and the helm... considering the bonus just haven't run into as of yet worth replacing them with

this is very good for me(52 NE warrior)
i have 3 pieces so far and im going for them all, i mean 6pieces=18 stamina, 100armor, 28atkpower(14 str), many lvl 56 gloves have less than that?

yeah sux really... the nice things we have is dark iron stuff, and the oh-i-never-drop recipes of lionheart healm+stronghold gauntlets from raid bosses...

did i mention the studid amount of kingsblood we need to get friendly with Throrium Brotherhood? or the amount of times we need to run BRD to get residue to get to honored?

how we get to exalted? mebe another stupidly boring and repetitive quest...

this should be armorsmith only... cut us some slack...

The recipes for the Imperial Plate set can be obtained through quests.

As I understand it you must be level 50 and have blacksmithing up to level 265.
At that point the quests will be offered by 德羅泰恩 in Tanaris.

At the moment of writing I have the blacksmithing skill but not the level, so I will update if what I've stated is incorrect once I have a chance to check it for myself.
