Imagine wanting to work for Blizzard most of your adult life, finally getting a foot in the door with a low-paying junior position, and then being told not only do you not matter, but none of your colleagues matter. The cost of living in the Irvine and just CA in general is heinous. I've laid out the math in other posts before, but to put it succinctly, to survive on your own without struggling is a 100k+-salary-endeavor. Forcing commutes to come back into the picture while cutting compensation is so wrong. Wasting money on new office space elsewhere is a joke.Ybarra's sentiments are inhumane, out of touch, and utterly disconnected from reality.
Clearly some people didn't even read the quotes. They are milk toast. This reaction in the comments makes it sound like Ybarra was just trashing employees, killed a man, or something as extreme . That isn't the case at all...
Get back to the office and remember: if you won’t do it, there’s 10 other people behind you that will.
I think hiring people for roles while remote, compensating based on a role being remote, and then asking them to return to the office without an increase in pay is wrong. Many of these remote employees are likely making less salary because they're remote, and now Blizzard is asking them to come back to the office while keeping the same remote worker salary.
Wowhead 'Try-Not-To-Spark-Drama' challenge (Impossible)To put my head into the line of fire - working at home has a HUGE amount of trust that's put into that role; productive or not, you need to have a damned good reason AND way to do your work, if not there's not too many reasons why you can't pop into an office. This changes if you're a bit too far away to relocate safely and efficiently (say if you work across Borders) but there may be the occasional 'hey we're gonna help you get over to the Offices to meet for a few days or a week'.The folks complaining about losing the 'Stay at home' role may be overreacting over some details. The folks complaining about people crying about it haven't read into the reasons as to why, may be jealous of the role and are quick to make scapegoats out of it with censoring swears because Wowhead does not allow for swearing. As an above comment has said; the only REAL abuse is flexibility with times, but most of the time people DO put in the effort; effort you can't crunch in an hour half-heartedly. We don't KNOW why Blizzard is doing this, but I can surmise its to clean house and get people into the offices - though the optimistic among us are hoping for a fair middle grounds. This is coming from a person who walks to work; if I could magically do my job at home, I would, but my job is not that.
This all started when Blizzard was acquired by/merged with Activision. Ever since the merger, Blizz/Activision has been absolutely hemorrhaging talent, and it's understandable from the various scandals and lawsuits that have come to light since. This is such a shame...
There is an IT crisis in the world. Developers are less and less needed. Its those times when we developers should stick to our place instead of thinking about promotion (like those Blizzard developers do)...Want a promo? Better to kick you out, and take some other hungry developer from the street.
My Job lets me and all other employees work from home, as long as our production doesn't drop. They ask for reasonable production numbers too. This is about wanting the employees to be miserable because they think that's what work is supposed to be.
I like the amount of people here who think people open laptops and watch netflix all day when they WFH.. apparently they don't know about deadlines and teams/zoom room you have opened all the time to communicate with your team.If people can indeed watch netflix and not work, maybe they aren't the problem, maybe their bosses are failing.
The mental midgets asserting that most people who WFH are slacking off have clearly never done it or have never done it in a skilled position. We get it. You're a receptionist. The rest of us working from home actually have deliverables, meetings all day, and half the time don't even take lunches. Take your @#$%ty work ethic and piss off.
QA as junior level jobs. Okay now I understand everything lol.....
