The by far best way to complete this quest is to take it as early as possible (after doing the prequisite https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=597) and then letting the quest hang along whilst you do other pirate quests - eventually you'll get yours - it can be a quite annoying grind though, I completed near all the pirate quests and did grind some 50 mobs aswell before I got mine but I guess I just had bad luck seeing as on all my other characters I got it on the first or second kill. The drop rate definitely isn't 1% though - it's more by far.

Brutus does drop this. He dropped it on the first kill after I had killed about 40-50 regular bloodsail's.
So try your luck on him might be worth it.

Brutus: 33.88.
He can be found on the single ship.

I went for Brutus on the single ship but a mage (first person I killed when getting aboard) dropped his eye. I had only previously killed the two guys on the island, just before getting on the ship.

Brutus seems to have a very good droprate. so if your done with the snuff quest, go and find him to get the eye.

Garr Salthoof dropped it first kill for me. Another named mob, so probably a decent drop rate, although I haven't checked yet. He is below deck on the ship furthest west. (The ships with the captain's on them.)

Wow. I wa just reading through all of this and thought I'd have a grind to go through. But the eye dropped off of a warlock after only like 3-4 kills. So Brutus may have the highest drop rate, this is proof it can drop from any of them.

If you haven't got the eye during your kills for "Up to Snuff" then I suggest going for Brutus. It certainly will save a lot of stuff in your home from getting destroyed in frustration after endless killing of Bloodsail pirates!

Just kill the easiest ones outside of BB, like the raiders. There's an equal chance it will drop off of any of them, so you might as well just kill the easy ones.

um... hate to point out the obvious it looks like this is a RANDOM drop of all bloodsails... and it seems to have a pretty bad drop % soe ppl find it first some have to kill 50+ to get it...

keep at it youll get it eventualy...

(note the oger staff quest in TM is even worse i killed like 160+ of these b4 i looted it... gained 2 lvls tho...

Something I've found is that sometimes the game gets into a rut of some sort with quest drops.

Where you go through streaks where it simply refuses to drop far beyond a reasonable number of kills. If this happens, try abandoning the quest and picking it up again.

I just tried this quest and killed about 30 or 40 mobs before abandoning the quest. I picked it up again and the eye dropped on the first kill.

You do NOT have to be friendly with Booty Bay or anything like that. Just get the first Bloodsail Buccaneers quest to explore the cove from First Mate Crazz (goblin), then complete it by locating the map, accept the quest from the map and return to Crazz. Once you do that, the quest will be unlocked for you at level 37. (If that doesn't work, then just complete the next step in the Bloodsail quests by talking to the fleet master).

For anyone who doesn't know this. You can't just walk in to BB and get the quest at level 37. First you have to do the quest the First Mate gives you on the lower dock, turn that in and talk to the captain. After you do this you are then able to recieve Dizzy's quest.

I didn't know this because I usually start BB quests long before then, but I hadn't done any yet on my current character. So if you are going to snag the cloak from Dizzy make sure you do the First Mate's quest first.

At 27,70 - It took me 5 kills to get the eye. I got the drop off a mage, and also did the "pretty boy duncan" quest at the same time :)

It seems there are two types of entries here...
#1 I got it on my first kill... or
#2 I have killed hundreds of these with no luck, then abandoned it and picked it up again and there it was...

So I figure, If I haven't got it after a dozen or so, bugger it, I will just abandon it... either that or leave it for later when I am looking for some mindless grinding time (Cos they also drop cloth).

In my Opinion this was a very nice quest..

I did this quest while i did the snuff quest and Bloodsail Bucaneer quest...

That's 3 quests on the same spot and from the same mobs....very nice if u ask me.

To make a point on everyone's comments:

1. Killing many mobs is NOT a bad thing...it does a lot of things
1. Gives u alot of XP
2. Gives u alot of Drops
3. Gives u alot of Money..
All these things are in my eyes nice things...

Whats so great about getting the eye on first kill?
well u get it and can run into BB and cash in 1650xp and a great cloak..fear enough..
well for me...i killed the whole beach 2 or 3 times..got ganked 2 times by a horde lock..but + the 1650xp and the cloak( wich i wear =P ) i also got 16000xp from killing mobs....
I ask, wich one is better if u are leveling a character...

I also see the time this quest takes...but to be honest..WoW IS a timeconsuming game...

How about I walked out of the Booty Bay entrance at Stranglethorn Vale, killed the first bucaneer I saw, and it drops the eye. Couldn't have asked for more luck.

It's a very easy quest. Go southeast of booty bay. There lays a coupple of pirate-ships. At the steering wheel at the one farest to the east, stands an elemental called: Brutus. Kill him you'll get the eye. He's by the way lvl. 43.

well just keep your head up it took me about 200 kills, just put it this way i started at the beggining of 43 and finished a 44 exactly but even thpugh theres not that much exp. in it its a fullfilling feeling when you finish the quest

I killed and killed and killed bloodsail for like an hour and a half and FINALLY it dropped at the location right behind booty bay. I killed them about 10 times and waited for them to respawn lol! It finally paid off 3600 xp

go to one of the boats where theres 2 boats right next to each other and kill the high level ones that are like level 41 just kill a couple and you will get the eye :)

i killed at least 80 of the bloodsails but first try on brutus and he had it

I too combined my eye search with my snuff search. After about 20 or so kills, I got the eye from one of the female warlocks on the small island between the two pirate ships.

Is it just me or do others think the swashbucklers look like Triple H? :)

(Phase 3 edit) You can receive the eye from any Bloodsail NPC, the drop rate has been decreased so it may take you longer than it had in Phase 2.

I did this one at the same time as "Up to Snuff" and the second to last Bloodsail Buccaneers quest (the one with the two sets of documents you have to find). It dropped off the third mob (a warlock) I killed going down the beach (sixth mob total, as I had killed two Raiders and one Mage "in the green" on the way to the beach).

The cloak is long and looks nice (black, or at least dark gray, with gold trim) and has stats similar to the Yeti Fur Cloak, I believe. I put it in the bank for now since I am wearing an INT cape right now for the extra mana.

I just got the eye drop on the first sweep of Pretty Boy Duncan's camp right outside the entrance to Booty Bay in like 6 kills. Quest was unavailable until i hit L45 (night elf hunter / zuluhed)

the drop rate EATS now. I've killed over 50 Bloodsails, no drop. I guess I'm out of luck. I might hit 41 before someone gets generous and remembers they stole it.

(Phase 3 note) The droprate is pretty low for this now. Seems to take about fifty kills to get the ete, give or take a few.

I suggest that, while you're at it, you pick up all the other bloodsail quests like The Bloodsail Buccaneers, Up to Snuff, "Pretty Boy" Duncan*, etc so you can do them all at the same time while you're busy killing Bloodsail mobs. It'll take painfully long otherwise.
The aforementioned are all Booty Bay quests.

*Note: This is towards the end of the chain of quests you can recieve from Baron Revilgaz. The first quest in the chain is "The Stone of the Tides."

I am friendly with Booty Bay and Hated with Bloodsail Buccaneers, but I can't take this quest from him (he doesn't have exclamation mark above his head). Any ideas why?

After being in Booty Bay, and going to Blasted Lands, Bad Lands, Tanaris etc...I'd always try to kill some bloodsail members to find this guy's eye. I killed probably 100+ before I saw the suggestion to abandon the quest and get it again, and once I did first kill I got the eye...crazy.

I exited booty bay into strangle thorn vale and went right, towards the beach, killed about 7 of the bloodsails and had the eye drop.

Gave me 2550 xp at 44.

Taking a while to get the eye,probably on my 23rd kill, but this is the perfect quest to do in conjunction with The Bloodsail Buccaneers and Up to Snuff.

Spent 2 hours killing all the bloodsail mobs all over the place. Finally gave up and started the quest to kill the three blokes on the ships (bloodsail buccaneers i think its called). Met a big mob called Brutus on the ship by itself, killed it and picked up the eye. My advice, try this guy first.

I canceled quest 5 times - not working

Nonsense 2: look for the drop at the island.
I did 3 times on both islands - nothing

Nonsense 3: look for the drop at X,Y, 1st Kil guarantee

I killed many of the Bloodsails before getting the drop, but I combined it with Up to Snuff, and I got the eye before I got all the snuff.

I got 2550 XP at level 39.

Go out the Booty Bay Shark entrance and hang a left. Go down to the camp at shoreline. Pretty Boy Duncan has the eye. I lucked out, it dropped first time.

I've been grinding this for awhile with no drops. Read the post that said to go to the island to the east of Booty Bay where the two ships are docked. Got the eye off the second Swashbuckler kill on that island.

I have made a quest for booty bay, and now i am neutral, with booty bay n' hated with buccaners. when i go to reputation, I can turn booty bay to AT WAR, but at the buccaners i can't it jsut stays like that. I completed this quest in like 5 minutes last night. I got the quest from Dizzy and the exited BB through the tunnel and then went LEFT (like your going down to the beach). Killed the single guy there before getting to the beach and he dropped Dizzy's eye. Ran back to Dizzy to complete the quest! EASY QUEST! OH YEAH! And I'm a lvl 37 lock.

In addition to other areas, I swept "Pretty Boy" Duncan's camp 3 times with no luck. I must've killed close to 50 Bloodsail Buccaneers, or at least it seemed that way. I abandoned and reaccepted the quest again. When I returned to Duncan's camp It took about 4-5 kills for Dizzy's Eye to be a random drop from a Bloodsail Raider. You may easily get the drop or it can be a painstaking quest.

I stayed up for about an hour killing any Bloodsail buccaneer I could find, but no drops! I get on the next afternoon, kill three Swashbucklers, don't even pay attention and it drops.

killed hundreds of those suckers.. went here to see what ppl had wrote about it.figured out i just had to grind them, went back and killed one sailor and it dropped whee^^. it seems it works taking a break from farming, then when u get back to it, it drops really fast. happend to me a few times atleast :P

Did this quest with the snuff quest, which has a pretty lame drop rate itself, and got all 15 snuff before I got the eye. I killed enough of those bastages to move about 70% of my exp. bar. Not the most fun quest but it forces you to grind, and there were a few green drops as well.

I can't believe I just got the eye off a regular Bloodsail Raider lvl 40. I am lvl 46. I've killed like a million of them including "Pretty boy Duncan" a dozen times before getting the damned eye. My rep in Booty Bay btw is friendly @ 3287/6000

I want to point out that the drop rate indeed is 3% for most of the bloodsail enemies, from which you can figure out how long it might take for you to get it.

To complete the quest, give Dizzy's Eye back to Dizzy One-Eye in Booty Bay. He's outside on the second level just past the roof of the Old Port Authority (mall). He’s facing a waterfall so his back is to you (43.4, 71.5).

The yellow question mark is hard to see against the waterfall. If you look at the mini map it looks like he could be inside a building.

Very low drop rate for Dizzy's Eye. Killed about 100 Bloodsail. Finally dropped off a warlock at 24,55

Lost count after 1hour of killing bloodsail mobs. But im guessing it was about 30, soo 3% drop looks correct for me.

This is one of those quests you park in your list and forget it. If the Eye drops, great: you get an OK amount of XP and a cape that is probably not as good as the one you're already wearing. If you're getting ready to leave STV because Tanaris (or some better place) is calling, fine. Just drop it. You can always pick it up again when you're in the area and feeling a trifle masochistic. By the time you get back to Booty Bay, you won't even care about it. On the other hand, if you're seriously grinding stuff in STV for whatever reason, this is the devs' way of giving you a little bonus. Kind of like a tip.

Avast! Who goes there?

Argh, I am but useless without me special enchanted eye. Bad enough to have lost me eyes in battle in the first place! But by some stroke o' luck we docked in Menethil and a traveling wizard enchanted a special glass eye that let me see again.

Last night I ended up gettin' jumped by some Bloodsail Buccaneers on me way out. Took me eye, they did! Seems those blokes have found their way to Booty Bay.

Help an old sea dog out by gettin' me eye back?
