Burning Crusade Classic Destruction Warlock DPS Best in Slot (BiS) Phase 3 Gear Guide

Welcome to Wowhead's Best in Slot Gear list from Phase 3 Black Temple and Mount Hyjal for Destruction Warlock DPS in The Burning Crusade Classic. This guide will list the recommended gear for Destruction Warlock DPS to acquire while they progress during the third phase of The Burning Crusade Classic, and contains gear sourced from Black Temple and Mount Hyjal, plus other pieces from previous phases like Serpentshrine Cavern, Tempest Keep, heroic dungeons, arena PvP Gear, professions, BoE World Drops, and reputations.
Best In Slot Gear for Destruction Warlock DPS in Phase 3
When gearing, there is a multitude of different things to consider: different talent specializations, your currently equipped gear, and your raid composition all play a key part. Perhaps the biggest deciding factor of them all is Hit rating - having too much or too little Hit rating from either talents, gems, or buffs will result in you swapping in different pieces of gear or gems to reach the relevant Hit cap. You can learn more about stat caps and priorities by visiting the Warlock Stat Priority Guide, but here are some important things to note:
Hit cap is determined by the level of the target, with level 73 raid bosses requiring +16% chance to hit, while level 70 trash requires only +3%. You should typically gear for bosses, but you may consider it worthwhile to have a specialized setup for clearing trash.
The amount of Hit gems you use, such as

and wings has arrived! The biggest upgrade in this phase is the four-piece bonus of this set, which increases the damage of our

by 6%. To put this in perspective, this is roughly equal to more than 100 Spell Power, or more than twice as good as four-piece Tier 4, or three-piece Spellfire! We will keep rocking this set until the end of times (of The Burning Crusade), although we switch up the item combination in Sunwell Plateau.
There are a lot of high-ticket caster items this phase, which we aren't the only ones aiming for. I go in-depth about which items specifically, and the possible alternatives, in the descriptions of every equipment slot. The long and short of it is that you will want to prioritize getting

, as that is the item that will last you the longest.

Should Destruction Warlock DPS Choose Aldor or Scryer for BiS in TBC Classic Phase 3?
There is not a huge difference between Aldor and Scryers for Destruction Warlocks. You should most likely base this on personal preference, such as elevator type, location, profession trainers, tabard style, etc.
That being said, let us look at the differences that influence gearing choices. The Scryers have the better items:

at Exalted. Although these are quite good, there are better items available in both slots in Phase 1. They do, however, offer additional flexibility in your gearing choices as you can swap them in and out to increase/decrease your total hit as required.
The Aldor has the better enchant, but there is a very small difference between the two;

is about a 1-2 DPS increase compared to

破碎残阳敏锐坠饰
is a special neck that changes proc based on faction alignment. This neck only becomes available by Phase 5, and in this phase, there will be better alternatives, so this is unlikely to affect your decision.
Ultimately, The Scryers provide more early gearing flexibility, while The Aldor provide a very slightly better shoulder enchant. Whatever your choice is, it is the right one.

as soon as possible.
Hood of the Malefic
is an excellent item for this (PLUS WINGS!).
Cowl of the Illidari High Lord
does have slightly better stats, however, due to the aforementioned bonus, it loses out to the Tier 6 helmet.

Our new cloaks will all be coming from Black Temple.
Nethervoid Cloak
is technically the best value cloak of the new three. However, the issue is that it has a lot of Hit rating. Which you are unlikely to make use of due to the rest of your gear being high on Hit already. You might be able to make more use out of the Hit when starting to transition into Sunwell Plateau gear, as this gear is more Haste heavy instead of Hit heavy. Another benefit is that early on during Phase 3, when you do not have a lot of Hit from your other pieces yet, you are more likely to make full use of the Hit on the back. It also has the advantage of being a Trash drop, resulting in it being solo obtainable.
Shroud of the Highborne
and
Cloak of the Illidari Council
are the other two cloaks. These are the more practical cloaks, both being about equally good. Shroud of the Highborne technically has a minor edge in value (roughly 4 Spell Power worth in BiS), but it is a better option for healers. So if you want to keep Life Tapping without worrying about your health, you most likely should not opt for Shroud of the Highborne. However, once all healers have the cloak, it should be fair game.

offer good itemization without hit. This is useful once you get your hands on more Phase 3 gear.

Ring of Ancient Knowledge
is our new best ring. This ring is not unique, so you can equip two of them. These drop from the trash in Black Temple and can potentially be soloed depending on which bosses are already dead. By soloing this content, you can potentially get your rings faster. However, as before, every caster will want this item. So if you solely rely on your raid itself, it may take you a while before you see your second ring.
To solo trash, you will need an ID that is cleared up to
莎赫拉丝主母
. In the original TBC, you could solo bigger packs, but these have gained a speed bonus in Classic. You can still solo the single mobs, but you can only do one at a time, and need
赞扎之速
to outpace them. It takes roughly 6 to 8 minutes per kill, and you will need to reset after 3 to 4 mobs, depending on the positioning. Be warned that this is rather slow and tedious. Here are two examples of it being done:

is the biggest gain in DPS aside from

four-piece bonus, especially when it comes to AoE DPS. It lasts the entire expansion and is the biggest upgrade in this phase. From all the items listed here, this should be your highest priority.
Your other trinket of choice is going to depend on whether you are facing Demons or Undead targets, in which case you will want to equip
Mark of the Champion
. In all other cases, it is going to depend on whether you want to use on-use or passive trinkets.

The next big-ticket item is
Zhar'doom, Greatstaff of the Devourer
. Every caster DPS will be set on getting their hands on this staff, but it is particularly strong for Warlocks, generally providing a bigger DPS gain than it does for other classes. A significant reason for Zhar'doom being so strong is that the alternatives have a lot of Hit rating, which is already in abundance on Phase 3 gear.
As for
Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian
, the stats on the staff are good, but not quite as good as the combination of other weapons in this phase. The real benefit from Atiesh is the buff it provides for the party. Increasing everyone's Spell Damage by 33.

Thank you for all the time and effort put into this list. My only issue that I see is that Translucent Spellthread Necklace seems to sim better (than Sunking's Talisman) for me, regardless of the hit rating, in every gearset I've put together.

if you keep immolate up in addition to spamming shadow bolt?
And how big is the difference?
If the difference is rather small you might want to add the +40 spell damage enchant as an alternative.
