This will give you a ton of runic power, thus increasing frequency of frost strikes. More frost strikes => more Runic Empowerment procs => more ownage.

tl;dr: Two-handed frost will be more than viable in cataclysm.

I find this talent quite intriguing as GC said that they were focusing on making frost the dw tree and unholy the 2h tree.

Even if this talent is meant to be 10 RP with the current frost talent tree as it is, a 2 hander would be much better than dual wielding. DKs with 2handers get this talent while dual wielders must pick up Threat of Thassarian to do as much damage as a 2 hander, and get no runic power for auto attacks. With a two hander you can skip Nerves of Cold Steel saving yourself 3 talent points to use in Icy Reach and to fill out either On a Pale Horse or Endless Winter. Additionally a DK with a 2hander will get more benefit from Blood-Caked Blade since it uses the weapon damage of only one weapon. Hopefully Blizzard will at least give us one handers with strength since some fury warriors will be duel wielding one handers as well (Single-Minded Fury).
tl;dr- 2hand=good :), DW=bad :(

Anybody else find it funny how Warriors are getting 1h Fury viable, DKs get 2h frost, yet Enhancement Shamans still don't get 2h Enhancement?

It should be noted that this talent makes Unholy Presence the default presence for Frost 2H DPS single target, as it helps DKs deal with being GCD locked. In AOE situations you'll still be using Frost Presence, however.

This comment is of course obsolete with the implementation of Mists, as the talent now instead encourages two-handed Frost Death Knights to prioritize Crit and Haste rating over say, mastery, due to the improved physical damage component from Obliterate. DPS as frost is now properly done in Frost Presence.

The way things work with frost is this, dual-wielders use Frost Presence for both Single and AOE fights, while 2-handers use Unholy Presence for single fights and Frost Presence for AOE, enough said, thats how things are being handle now. This talent sounds very promising, I enjoy either Frost or Unholy DPS, but seeing as Unholy got nerfed a bit makes no sense to me at all and the only nerf that Frost got was to Howling Blast, once I research the specs and see which is dealing out more overall DPS will be my spec for Cataclysm.

I have tested both this and threat of thassarian several times and used my dps meter to track how much damage is done after 5 mins. Giving exactly 5 mins to each talent and doing several trials with equal quality weapons (pvp epics). After 5 mins on all the trials i did Threat of Thassarian deals more damage, about 3.6%(overall) on average more than might of the frozen wastes. There is a chance that rng might have messed with the results but i highly doubt it because i tested several times with the same results (i.e. dual wielding is better). I did this on a dummy and all trials in unholy presence just to clarify. Its a small dps sacrifice for preference imo, might bump u down on the dps ranks in pve but u can do either in pvp without much difference. The primary benefit of this talent imo is that a) 2 handers look cooler and b) u dont have to buy 3 weapons for pvping b/c blood and unholy are 2 hander specs while the dual wielding would necessitate having more weapons to buy.

I've also tested this a few weeks back, and I can state for a fact that dual wield is pushing out more damage in terms of Obliterate, FS and HB. Obliterate won't land significantly higher numbers, but when it comes to Frost Strike and Howling Blast you will notice the difference, especially with the upcoming 4.1 damage buffs and the 10% vulnerability debuff from your off-hand. Plus there's the fact that duals focuses on Mastery, whereas i'm actually finding that mastery is becoming more useful with my current 2H frost spec in PvP/Arena (Ranged attacks, focusing someone down within a short window, and finishing off that guy on 10% HP who receives Hand of Protection from his pally buddy.

I just tried dpsing the heroic dummy with 28 pts invested in frost (0/3 MOTFW and therefore 0/1 HB) and I could hardly notice the difference in RP generation; if I had HB on my action bar then I doubt I would have felt much of a change. it's only 45% to get 10 RP.

I'm due for the 2200 arena wep upgrades soon, currently using Zin'Rokh. I'm actually considering going for 2 x Vicious Glad. Slicers as opposed to the 2H sword/axe/mace. Nerves of Cold Steel gives 25% offhand wep damage which is practically the same as the 12% boost you gain with this talent, only difference is that you obtain it effortlessly at the very top of the talent tree.

Despite how much I love 2H Frost, i've been itching for an excuse to switch to Duals; every single frost DK I see in arena nowadays is 2H, I just like my character to be different. Hopefully now I have a good enough reason.

Dual wield doesn't get any extra talent points > 2H, either. You need 5 talents in order to proceed, with 2H you're forced to waste 2 points straight off the bat. NoCS is practically the same as MotFW, except you get it instantly and not at the bottom of the tree. I say that is a waste because, well.. go to a target dummy and check how far away you can cast it from... All I ever do is PvP and you can get by without it perfectly fine. Most people won't even notice the difference with 0/2, if they do then 1/2 should suffice. I just wanted to point this out -- spec is really wasting talent points now?

(Sorry for the rant, but hopefully someone manages to dig some useful information out of this post.)

For MoP, does the 10% bonus to all melee attacks also apply to Obliterate? If so then Obliterate with both diseases up will hit for 495% weapon damage and crit for 990% weapon damage.

Are my calculations correct?

We are going to use the same solution we did for Frost DKs, which is that a weapon swap will prevent the passive bonus for applying for 30 sec or so.

I would like to point out for the MoP expansion frost no longer used unholy pres. Since frost presence now increases Runic Power generation by 20% and reduces the cost of frost strike by 15 RP. And as an added bonus it also reduces the duration of effects that control your character by 20%.
