A fun, yet very DANGEROUS spell. In an instance you will probably seldom use it due to the fact you can not control where the target will go (and often pulls other mobs making it harder for your party). In pvp though, this is an awesome tool. Too many foes attacking your MT in AV? Just fear em' away. Fear can be a very decisive factor in many fights. Use it wisely as the cool down can be rather long at times.

Even at level 60, I've kept this one hotkeyed because sometimes you only want to fear one or two enemies, and so by using rank 1 instead of rank 4 I save 110 mana, which doesn't sound like a lot, but every little bit helps.

Even after the fear nerfs, psychic scream is still a valuable escape tool. While it can only really be counted on for a few seconds of breathing space, often times those few seconds are enough to save the proverbial day.

The real pain here is, of course, not being able to decide which enemies get feared. Usually it is the ones most likely to resist it that get targetted, but that is just the usual application of Murphy's Law.

In PVP this spell shines in that it is a very efficient interrupt, and (if you are almost out of mana, suicide rushing the group about to run into the Warsong Gulch tunnel and hitting the highest rank, causing them to scatter - priceless, and breaks up their formation, making it much easier for your side to break their efforts.)

This spell is so much more than an escape tool. While it is that as well, using this spell to directly cc one target while solo target grinding is pretty good as well. You will not get interupted and it costs way less than a PW:S. This requires some space, but even in rather tight situations Mind Flay should let you keep the mob in reasonable range.

I don't see why priests should have a new rank of Psychic Scream. Sure rogues and some other classes might have had their cc amped up a bit but it still lasts the same in PvP circumstances (10 secs with diminishes). I also don't see why some people even consider this a cc spell in PvE circumstances. It only lasts for 8 secs and has a pretty long cooldown. At best its an "oh crap" spell to get mobs off of you so you can heal, sort of like the druids Cyclone. My point is this isn't a cc spell its an oh crap spell thats most useful in PvP.

I always get at least 2 extra mobs on me every time I use this at whatever level. And it seems to break as soon as it draws aggro, perhaps bolstered by the sight of its companions.

Psychic Scream is also usable as an interrupt in PvP. If you see a mage low on mana and you know he'll probably use evocation soon, you can stick to him until he uses it and then fear-interrupt it. This can make or break a game if somebody is trying to get off a big heal and you interrupt it when the cast time is at ~0.5 sec.

Also note: if you fear somebody close to a cliff he will not run over it and die from fall damage, instead he will change direction when he gets to the edge :(

In cata this become the only rank (other being removed)

With the glyph change in cata, We can finally use this in instance safely without making monster run though the instance and pull extra add, very nice addition to survival tools for both healing and dps priest : )

Has anyone reflected upon WHY a priest learns such an ability in the first place? Why would a priest be able to lay out a psychic scream that makes enemies flee in horror? It doesn't make much sense in my book.

In WoD this is a talent picked at level 60. No longer baseline. Psyfiend is gone too, replaced by it.

Big change on WoD. This spell is NO LONGER baseline. You have to choose it on 60 lvl in tier 4 talents.
Hard choice for PvP players between fear, tendrils and control. Damn you, Blizzard, you have ruined our cc.

Like to point out, that the talent you take to get Psychic Scream (Psychic Voice) literally says it reduces the cool down of Psychic Scream by 30 seconds. It says NOTHING about granting you Psychic Scream.

In pvp I sometimes try and make enemy that is pestering me (such as melee) use their trinket, then Psychic Scream aka "fear" them, which allows to myself to do a long cast such as mind control to get them away even further. I use my fear by facing the direction I want them to go in. Then they are further away when MC starts so I can mc walk them away much further or off a cliff. Try it.
