It's still a great buff for us ordinary PvE'ers who can now continue dps while mending the pet, or put a mend to boost pet health reg between fights. It's quite cheap in mana too.

It's pretty good for PvP too, with two points in Improved Mend Pet you can remove CC from your pet easily. Two points isn't that much if you're already trying to pass the tiers for Beast Within. Using Rank 1 is prefered for this cause (32 mana cost).

This ability has gotten a huge buff overall with it being changed to percentage based healing, as well ticking every two seconds instead of every three (Which triggers improved Mend Pet more frequently on top of providing more healing).

With the glyph, Spirit Bond, and Blood of the Rhino, it heals your pet for close to 13% of it's max health per two seconds.

Yes, this spell in conjunction w/ other healing effects on pets in cata are quite rediculous.

To illustrate how so, I've succesfully solo pet tanked argaloth w/ 1 really pro disc healer.

Here's the details

40% Bonus Healing (Blood of the Rhino talent)
10% Bonus Healing (Spirit Bond)
2% Healing per 10s (SB)
40% Healing per 10s (Mend Pet w/ Glyph)
Dispel Every 4s (1 pt in IMP)
2% Healing per 3.5s (Silverback)

To sum that up you need to know your pet's health. With raid buffs, and my pet tanking (stamina, etc) gear, my pet is at around 150k health atm.

That's:
3k per 10s x 50% modifier: 4.5k per 10s (450 hps)
60k per 10s x 50% modifier: 90k per 10s (9k hps)
3k per 3.5s x 50% modifier: 4.5k per 3.5s (~1.3k hps)

In other words, a grand total of 10.7k hps which rivals alot of good healers in game at the moment. Not only that but our pets dont take too much more damage than a normal tank, especially if an encounter revolves around AoE (Due to Avoidance of 90% of AoE) or magic damage (high resistances). We have amazing cooldowns (50% dmg reduction for 12s every 42s )

So you can effectively have a pet tank something like argaloth, and with enough health to soak the blows, you dont have to tank swap at all due to the meteor splash being aoe. You only need 1, maybe 2 healers and any healing that is done on your pet beyond the 8-11k that you can achieve via upping stamina, talents and mend pet is enhanced by 50%.

Pretty insane if you ask me.

Had an odd little glitch happen with this today. I pulled out my bear to tank an elite and hit mend pet, only to be told that a stronger spell is already active. I tried again a few seconds later, and the same thing happened. When I looked at my pet, it had the normal mend pet buff, but it said "9 days remaining"! I have no idea how it happened. It was nice not to have to click it but it did mean I had to listen to the mend pet noise every 2 seconds...

I've never seen Mend Pet spell stolen by a Mage, but it probably doesn't work.

Even if it can be, it's probably not advisable because it says in the description that it heals 5% of the pet's health every 2s. Glyphed this is upped to 4%, and the pet's healing enhancements along w/ BM enhancements up it some more, but these won't affect you, all except maybe the glyphed portion. If you steal it it may not heal you at all, even if it did heal you , it's dispellable, and you're better off using your spell steals on important abilities such as Master's Call, and whatever the Hunter's partners are using. If you're considering spell stealing it in order to prevent the pet from getting heals, this spell has no cooldown and can be spam cast instantly. I'll have to test it in game, but I have a feeling it won't work.

Its not solo if you have a priest with you. Solo is SOLO like the other night i killed the boss by the black anvil with my paladin while lv53-55ish with no external help, not even buffs leftover from party members. That is solo. Having buffs from other classes and especially having a priest there to heal is not.

I don't know why, but currently the wowhead tooltip says that Mend Pet is a "channeled" ability. I just tested it in-game, and it's definitely still an instant cast with 10 second duration.

From the Patch 5.4 PTR I've noticed this spell currently has a 10 second cooldown and ticks every second (for 5 seconds) and CANNOT be buffed for extra healing.

After 5.4 it works like this:

Without glyph: Heals the pet for 5% of it's total HP every 2 seconds for 10 seconds - total of 25% pet hp healed.

With glyph: Heals the pet for 5% of it's total HP every 1 second for 10 seconds - total of 50% pet hp healed.

In other words, the glyph makes the spell heal at twice the speed over the same duration, ending up in exactly twice the amount of healing.

This is a buff from the previous version of the spell where the glyph changed it only from 25% to 40%, without speeding up the healing ticks.

I have a dumb question...as a hunter, I am getting tired of not being able to see my pet's health due to the oddly huge texted healing numbers and damage appearing over my pet's portrait. Is there is a script or macro I can run or use to hide the incoming damage and/or healing on my pet? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

"Where does my Mend Pet button go when my pet dies?"

As of 6.0.2, Revive Pet and Mend Pet are integrated into one spot on your action bar.

Basically what this means, is that if your pet is alive, the button will show "Mend Pet". But if your pet has died, that same button turns into "Revive Pet". Very useful, especially when you are in a tough battle, when you click the button, if the pet has just died, instead it will revive your pet.

EDIT: As of 7.0, for those who are wondering "Oh no, where is my Mend Pet/Revive Pet at?", do not fret. Blizz has put it into the "Pet Utility" button. Thankfully, if you don't care for how that is set up, you can remove the individual ability from the Pet Utility button and place that on your task bar to individually click it, instead of having to use a drop down (or drop side/up) ability.

i just noticed something very odd, at low lvls a hunter will not be able to heal her pet with this spell. i just made a new hunter and at lvl 1 it gives the error "Target is too low level". probably not much of a problem given that at that lvl nothing is really going to hurt your pet, but still annoying.

becomes usable at lvl 6.

since Im looking to play with a Tauren. Here my question comes: does the Tauren racial "brawn" (Critical strike bonus damage and healing increased by 2%.) Increases the amount healed by the critical procs from my "Mend pet" ?

Patch 10.0 - if you lost your mend pet spell, and it's not on your pet utility bar, you can find it in the spellbook > Hunter tab at right. The Pet Utility icon has this and several other spells in a slide menu.

Seems to currently not be working with some Lesser Dragonkin - gives an Invalid Target error . As best test I can tell, this is just with the new pets added in. Cloud Serpents for eg, which are now Lesser Dragonkin, can be Mended, but faerie dragons and veilwings (the ardenweald feather dragons) can't be.

Found that the Pet Utility options are context sensitive now. You need to have a pet active for Mend Pet to show up. If you do not have a pet at you side, the Mend Pet ability will be replaced with Revive Pet, even if your pet is alive.
