Долина Призрачной Луны... Такая, какая она была до разрушения Дренора.
История названия долины связана с Нер'Зулом, а конкретнее с названием его клана - Клан Призрачной Луны. Это очень красивая долина, где практически весь "день" является ночью.
На востоке долины можно увидеть дренейский храм - Карабор. Красивейший храм с печальной историей: он был захвачен у дренеев и стал убежищем Совета Теней Гул'Дана. Спустя некоторое время, после разрушения Дренора, храм был захвачен Пылающим Легионом. В настоящее время этот храм более известен, как Чёрный Храм, оплот Иллидана.

Под покровом вечной ночи раскинулись пышные леса долины Призрачной Луны, освещаемые лишь ярким светом звезд. Блуждая по ним, можно оказаться возле Карабора, волшебного храма-гробницы дренеев. Многие дренеи долины изучают пророчества среди древних каменных кругов, в то время как коварные заговорщики бродят по разветвленной сети подземных пещер, бросая хищные взгляды на священные земли храма.

Интересная особенность этого места, отличающая его от других локаций — дневной свет вызван не солнцем дренорским, а луной, освещающей обширные просторы и пышную растительность Долины.

Очень красивая локация. Особенно запомнилась прекрасная музыка, приятный эмбиент.

Hidden under a shroud of perpetual night broken only by bright starlight, the lush, idyllic forests of Shadowmoon Valley are home to a majestic draenei tomb and sanctuary: Karabor. While many of Shadowmoon’s denizens study prophecy among Karabor’s ancient stone circles, plotters with darker ambitions lurk in the valley’s vast underground cave network, gazing greedily at the sacred temple.

This zone on Draenor is very different from the destroyed, fel-green version with know of from Outland. Here you will find the Shadowmoon Clan, led by Ner'zhul, and the temple of Karabor, the Draenei settlement well known for its later name of the Black Temple. Players help defend the temple from the invading Iron Horde, and Lunarfall is the the sub-zone that Alliance players construct their garrison upon.

Other familiar faces appearing in Shadowmoon Valley include Gul'dan, Ner'zhul, the Prophet Velen and Vindicator Akama.

The zone also houses the 5-man dungeon Shadowmoon Burial Grounds.

Shadowmoon Valley is a very distinctive land, located in southeastern Draenor. The valley's bright daytime isn't caused by Draenor's sun, unlike other lands of the planet, but its larger moon illuminating its vast, lush landscape and starry skies - hence its name. It features blue-ish flora, vast plains and rocky mountains, as well as numerous draenei settlements - including the sacred temple of Karabor. The valley is populated with majestic beasts of the primordial world, such as elekks, nether rays and others.
It also features a mushroom forest named Umbrafen at the northern coastline, much like the other regions of Draenor. The southern coastline leads to the Evanescent Sea.
The orcish Shadowmoon clan, led by Ner'zhul also populates the region and seemingly have practiced their magic for some time, and are possibly the ones who erected the stone obelisks dotting some parts of the valley. After the Iron Horde began their march against the draenei civilization, the Shadowmoon Clan also participated as part of the greater orcish union that intended to consolidate their race's power over their homeworld, and later - the worlds beyond. The Shadowmoon clan is also notable for dabbling into the void magics.
Not all orcs share the Shadowmoon clan's fascination with void magics, though. The Palemoon orcs have split from the Shadowmoon clan, seeking a peaceful life for themselves and trying to co-operate with the draenei and recently arrived Alliance forces, even if it means killing their former tribesmen in order to prevent greater bloodshed.

I made a copy of the map with the names of the rares listed right on the map. Personally I print it off while I'm leveling so I can glance down when I need to without having the alt tab :P

Looking at the gorgeous night skies, the scifi-ish temples and the nocturnal scenery here really makes you wonder how far the Draenei have fallen from grace.

I was in Elodor, which I thought was a small town but turns out to be a major settlement with all the Exarchs living there. I didn't remember seeing it in the original Shadowmoon Valley so I flew to Outlands to check it out, and....there was nothing. Only one thing was left where it stood - the Altar of Sha'tar. The entire town was in ruins and didn't even merit a mention.

Looking out from the Altar, no part of the lands resemble pre-Outlands shadowmoon valley, scorched black and all, with infernals dropping from the black skies above, an ungodly volcano in the middle and the melancholic soundtrack playing in the background.

All the Exarchs are dead except for Akama and Maladaar, the latter of which had went insane inside the Auchenai Crypts from the near extinction of his race.

After you complete every story arc quest in the zone (As I Walk Through the Valley of the Shadow of Moon), you can buy Shadowmoon Valley Treasure Map from Grakis(Ally), in Ashran which will show on your map the location of virtually every treasure in that zone.

Rewards from the treasures include gold, Garrison Resources, green BoEs, blue BoPs and even Toy Box items. Items looted can proc an upgrade of 10 or 20 ilvls, just like quest rewards.

Alliance: If you have leatherworking and/or the garrison Tannery, spend as much time as you can here. Do the quests and bonus objectives. The Hills of Valuun is a particularly rich source of leather. The following zones don't drop nearly as much.

Beautiful and enchanted looking, this area is my favourite so far as it is like a giant version of Teldrassil with its violet skys and lush purple hued flora/fauna. Also seems to resemble the forests of Pandora in Avatar!

It should also be noted that the NPC Rovan Astalan at 43.8, 77.0 is a neutral vendor/repair NPC that is conveniently placed in the southern part of the zone for horde players.

Is this basically an alliance zone? I'm horde and don't have any starting quests given to me. I do see posted that there are drops for quests, but are there any quests in SMV to pick up?

Along the northern coast is a cave called Swamplight Cave. It is at the waterline, and when my L95 Fury Warrior was wandering the coast for fishing, completely empty. It is not listed in the subzones of this zone (unlike the Den of Secrets, which I also found). The entrance is at 35.57,17.18. Coming down to the shore for the Gloomshade Grove quests, you would follow the shore to the left. You are still in Gloomshade Grove when you find the cave. I've submitted a screenshot that I took, while standing on a large mushroom just in front of the cave entrance (thank you, flying), showing the cave and the large skeleton that's at the shore by the path down from Gloomshade Grove.

in the botani area in the south west, there is a waterfall, in the pond from where it flows there are half a dozen corpse mounds consisting of draenai villagers (mostly female draenai), alliance footman and karabor guards. With little bloomlings running around them...its a seed harvesting nest...how very grisly
