Latest Cataclysm Hotfixes (Feb 15)
Just a few new hotfixes today - including a buff to raid boss kill guild reputation / experience gain! Awesome!
General
The amount of guild reputation and guild experience gained from killing a raid boss has been dramatically increased, as the previous rate felt too low compared to the difficulty of progressing through raid content. This change will require a realm restart to take effect, which will be next Tuesday's weekly scheduled maintenance at the latest.

Dungeon Finder's Luck of the Draw Buff Increased up to 15% in 4.0.6
Blizzard is taking another step towards improving the quality of random pickup groups and hopes to increase their success rate in Heroic dungeons with their latest plan to increase the effect of the
Удачный жребий
buff. Apparently, this buff (which is applied whenever you have a random player in your Dungeon Finder group) wasn't even working properly in Cataclysm dungeons, which caused some encounters and dungeons to be harder than intended for pickup groups. This has been corrected, and the buff will now increase 5% per random player up to a maximum of a 15% increase in damage, healing and health.
Of course, this increase is by no means a way to "fix bad" and some groups will still experience issues, however hopefully this buff, combined with the plethora of dungeon and encounter changes coming with the patch, will make the random dungeon experience more enjoyable (or at least bearable).
What do you think? Is this a step in the right direction?

Players no longer need to discover Cataclysm dungeon entrances in order to access them via the Dungeon Finder.
These changes will probably cause a lot of "omg catering to casuals lol" forum rage, but for those of us who

conveniences rather than feeling as though we constantly need to be challenged (such as by having to fly ALL THE WAY to a dungeon entrance to "discover it"), they're definitely welcome changes! Yeah, I get it, it makes things easier but c'mon, get real - it wasn't exactly some huge challenge or marvelous feat in the first place. I haven't even wanted to level my warrior (for whom I wanted to use the Dungeon Finder to victory) just because I don't feel like going to discover al

The Dungeon Finder and Required iLvl Woes
A hot subject around the forums today regards players who "game" the Dungeon Finder's iLvl requirements system by keeping high level gear in their bags in order to meet the requirements. This means that a tank who may be undergeared for the Heroic tier content can queue up and will be placed in a dungeon even if he does not actually have appropriate level gear for tanking, and may just have a bunch of plate with Intellect in his bags.
Many tanks, healers and DPS are gaming this system in order to get into dungeons - and for some, it works out and they are still able to contribute to the group appropriately. Unfortunately, this sort of situation can also negatively affect the party's potential outcome. Today, Blizzard poster Wryxian addressed a user who posted concern and misunderstanding of why he was suddenly unable to run certain dungeons after clearing some PVP gear out of his bags.

Legendary - The WoW Video Podcast - 4.0.6.. RLY BLIZZ?
Woo! Blizz unleashed a tidal wave of changes to virtually every corner of WOW. It's gotten to the point where I'm worried that my Lil' Rag will have his cooking buff nerfed into the ground. In last night's episode (that we do live every Tuesday night at 9pm PST on

Would you considered the heroic changes a nerf, buff, or mix overall?

Ready for Raiding: Flasks, Elixirs, Potions and You!
Do you want to be better at your class? Sure, we all do. The first step to a successful raid is to learn as much as possible about playing your class to its potential, and executing what you've learned in a clean and understanding fashion. The next step? Mind-altering and strength-modifying chemicals!
No raiding career is complete without the hundreds of hours spent farming raw materials for consumables! Right? Of course, some clever players opt to instead farm the Auction House, scoring the sweet deals and making good plays that earn them the money to supplement their raiding "habit." For everyone else though, it means knowing an
Alchemist
and getting them the herbs they need to help you! So what flasks do you need? What herbs do they take? Where is lizard help? Don't worry, Wowhead's got you covered.
I've put together a guide to help familiarize players with the new consumables available for Cataclysm content. This should serve as an informative introduction as well as a strong reference for all of your flask, elixir and potion needs! Be sure to check out the detailed guide, including run-downs of all-things liquid and c

Dungeon Finder: Friend, Foe or Fail?
Recently, a player on the official forums brought forth a strong opinion regarding the use and abuse of the Dungeon Finder. I'll admit, I haven't been using the Dungeon Finder much lately to find groups as I've been solely doing Heroics with my guildmates or premade server groups. Apparently, though, many players are reporting cases of abuse of the system, ending up in groups which are ruled by seemingly tyrannical leaders / groups who call the shots in rude and unfair ways. That is, when they're actually playing. Players are also reporting groups where people will queue up as a majority or tank / healer role, then refuse to actually
play the game
. I'm sorry, but if you're going to sit there and go through the trouble of logging into the game and queueing up for a dungeon, why the hell
wouldn't
you play?
How should players deal with this? Is it our responsibility to have to deal with attempting to kick players (which won't always work), or are changes to the Dungeon Finder by Blizzard the answer? Do you think the problem is in the Dungeon Finder's lack of penalty for such players? Would a karma system
actually
work? Read on for a full look at the Dungeon Finder system and learn to

Are Heroics Too Hard? Blizzard Doesn't Think So (And Neither Do I, Hah!)
As many players hit level 85 and begin to queue for Heroic dungeons, there has been a resounding echo among the users of the official forums and pretty much everywhere else, all preaching a single thought: Heroic dungeons are too damn hard! Many of these players are skipping straight into Heroics as soon as their item level average permits, since (after all) this is the intended "ready" point for the content. But is it too low? Or are the Heroic themselves too difficult?
Today, Blizzard poster Zarhym responded to an angry poster, admitting that Wrath of the Lich King content was actually
too easy
and the Heroics are supposed to be as difficult and as much of a test of skill as they now are.
Players were conditioned at the end of Wrath of the Lich King to mow through Heroics at lightning speed. Not only were they too easy to begin with, by the time Dungeon Finder came out players greatly out-geared the majority of these dungeons.
The reality is that it makes sense for Heroics to be a true and necessary stepping stone into raiding. They are more difficult

Ghostcrawler Discusses Upcoming Major Class Changes
Now that many players are level 85, Blizzard has been receiving a ton of feedback (both positive and negative) regarding their classes, specs and other balancing / playability concerns. They've taken a lot of these concerns, with their own review, and Ghostcrawler has just posted a very inclusive and informative post detailing developer impressions of the current state of the game and various aspects of it, projecting potential and possible changes we'll see in the near future. Definitely worth a read!
We have a lot of players at 85 now doing everything from Heroic dungeons to rated Battlegrounds, and the class design team is starting to prepare our list of items to investigate for our next patch.
Before you dive down into the meat below (not really a pleasant image, that), be advised that we’re still early in the preliminary stages. The patch isn’t coming out tomorrow. I wrote this before the end of the year and other things may have cropped up in the meantime. Just because your class or pet problem isn’t mentioned below doesn

New Ghostcrawler Blog: Threat Needs To Matter
In his latest developer blog, Ghostcrawler talks about the threat mechanic, how it's intended to work, and how you (and the development team) know when there's a problem. He provides a bulleted list which is the major thrust of the essay, which I'll reproduce here:
If a tank is trying to generate threat on a single target, and it runs off to kill a DPS class, that’s a problem.
If a tank is trying to generate area threat on a group, and the tanked things are running off to kill healers, that’s a problem.
If Vengeance falling off causes the tank to lose threat, that’s a problem.

Holy Paladin Nerfs Explained
Nethaera just jumped on to the official forums to let us know about a holy paladin nerf:
no longer generates Holy Power when used with
, and
Свет зари
isn't healing for as much.
Looks like paladin healers were spamming Holy Light on the tank to build up Holy Power, then using Light of Dawn to heal the rest of the raid for free.
These hotfixes were intentional and we wanted to share more information about the "why" for you all here:
Mana is supposed to matter for healers, and in the case of Holy paladins, that just wasn’t happening. We were seeing raid groups attempting to learn new bosses where the other healers were out of mana while the paladins were still at 90% of mana. We also thought the experience of paladins healing harder heroic dungeons was inconsistent with that of other healers, or our design intent. We thought it was only a matter of time before groups started going out of their way to stack paladins for raids or recruit them for dungeon runs, which of course is not our intent. For this reason, we thought it was important to address this point now rather than sitting on it until a fut
