Если учесть шанс выпадения - по сути 1 из 6000, то специально выбивать не советую - замучаетесь. Но уж если повезло, то на аукционе он будет стоить никаких не 50 золотых, а все 5000. Кстати, самый красивый попугай. Я его получила, просто прокачивая оружие, выпал на 500 мобе. Лучше сразу из Пиратской бухты повернуть налево - там как раз тусуется красавчик Дункан с другими мобами, шанс выпадения пета из которых выше, чем из тех, что находятся справа на пляже.

Действительно очень красивый пет,с удовольствием взяла себе в коллекцию , если покормить его печеньем для питомца с лут карты(лут коды на которые продаются) становиться больше раза три в четыре(смотрится как обалденно,больше моей дворфихи в два раза). Но прикол слышала не в этом ,а в том что болтать его научить можно,причем заданные слова.Сама не разбиралась,хотя все возможно.Недавно узнала что эмоций и действий в вове более 150,половину перепробовала,так что теперь ничего не удивляет.Думаю для самого редкого дропного пета может быть какая то пасхалка))) Да и купила его за 14500 , в последствии думаю будет стоить намного дороже.

Пытаюсь выбить попугая уже очень давно. Раскачал репутацию с Кабестаном - Круговзором - Прибамбаском с 0 равнодушие до Превознесения именно на этих пиратах

3000реп +6000реп + 12000реп +21000реп = 42000реп

с пирата ~дают 2-3 репки возмем как большее число 4 допустим с учетом убийства Красавчика дункана 25реп (непомню больше ли вначале давали или нет)

42000\4 = Итого 10500мобов и 0 попугаев

Идея насчет фарма попугая на момент раскачки персоонажа с 40 до 46 привлекает меня больше чем тупо фарм 80лвл.

Мне кажется, тут самое главное - не зацикливаться. Я ездила туда как на курорт, отдыхать после всяческих боёв. Любовалась красивым пейзажем, помогала качающимся там малышам с квестами, раздавала странички в чате. Упал мне с мага, недели через 3 такого ненапряжного фарма. Добавила в свою коллекцию. А вообще, судя по трейду и аукциону, у нас на Азурегосе цена колеблется в районе 20к.

Это уникальная шапочка, единственная в своем роде. Падает она из тех же мобов, что и попугай, примерно с одинаковым шансом.
Пока я выбивал себе спутника, мне упало две такие шапочки. Одну я оставил себе, вторую продал за 750г.

P.S. В Катаклизме падает из тех же мобов, что и попугай, удачи:)

то что нельзя фармить попугая тем персонажем которым собираетесь делать "Чокнутого" - ЧУШЬ!
можно! Если вы набили необходимое кол-во репы с пиратами для "Чокнутого", можете спокойно фармить попугая, качать репу с картелью при помощи пиратов и т.п. и т.д. так как вы уже сделали часть для ачивы"Чокнутый".
Не верите ?:) скачайте аддон "Overachiever" найдите там ачив "Чокнутый" при помощи поиска( поставив галочку "искать по всем достижениям") и поставьте слежение.
Когда набьете репу с пиратами, там отметится что часть достижения выполнена и после ухудшения репутации с пиратами, снова её набирать не нужно:)
Всем удачно получить звание "Чокнутого" :)
И "спасибо" за отрицательные отзывы :), но я реально прав! (проверил на себе!), а тому кто опровергнет мою теорию, оплачу 1 месяц игрового времени.

За 10 минут выпало две клетки. Первую сразу выучил - а об истинной стоимости второй даже не догадывался. Предложенную аукционером стоимость в 15к принял за глюк и выставил с минимальной ставкой 50 и выкпом 950. Теперь понятно, почему так быстро выкупили... Ну, хоть гильдию повеселил :)

Глядя на статистику видно что средний дроп 1/1300, а значит примерно повышен до 50 раз, а значит вся эпичность и легендарность сего спутника теряется.

ЗЫ за полчаса на ауке появилось 3 штуки. Седогрив. Альянс.
ЗЗЫ с Командира Гаула дроп 1% по версии вовхэда. Время респавна 1 минута 32 секунды=-). Берём книжку и читаем.

хочу сказать лишь одно...если собираетесь выбивать его ради денег, то подумайте хорошенько стоит ли оно того, падает птичка редко, можно выбить с первых 10 мобов или даже за 1-2 часа фарма, а можно например бить больше 3-х недель как я например (по 2 часа в день в среднем на фарм) и так ещё и не выбил...набил репу с картелью уже с половины уважения почти, что до превознесения (1к-2к осталось ^^)...и если уж выбьете сие чудо, то не продешевите...

Как то хотел выбить его и сказал другу, что выбью его с первого моба, но выбивать не стал. Через месяц другой, решил покачать репу с Пиратской бухтой, и что из этого вышло? Падает попугай, с первого моба :D

Я очень хотела гиацинтового ару, ещё в личе на него охотилась часами. С голдой напряга никогда не было, но покупать его - это же просто неспортивно! )))
В итоге рандом действительно такой рандом. Мой муж, который никогда не пытался его фармить, колупал Зин Рок (археология), в тернистой мимоходом кокнул какого-то пиратика и пожалуйста.
Пришлось выклянчить :))) Тоже неспортивно, конечно, но денег не потрачено, а он у меня есть!

ТТ... Делал Хранителя мудрости, осталось 2 локи в тернистой добить. Для ускорения процесса этого решил не лутать лоу лев мобов, только если квест требует лутинга. В итоге на квесте соли на мурлоках выпал этот пет... Рад как слон )))

Должен сказать , что фарм этого пета дело непростое и утомительное. Поэтому распишу как делал сам. В общей сложности ходил регулярно в течении 2 месяцев наверное. Разное время тратил на фарм но как правило не более 2 часов. Бил из пиратов на берегу и корабле ( в общей сложности наверное по 700-800 разных). Также бил- Нага исследователь 9500 . Выбил вчера из морской волк. Дело кстати очень доходное, пока бил нага исследователь получал пикантное мясо моллюска , которое отлично продается на ауке. Надеюсь кому то пригодятся мои рекомендации. 1874 пирата и он мой!
Бил на 48, 36. Там быстрый респ пиратов. Всего лишь одну ночь их побил..)
Очень помог аддон Rarity.) Показывает сколько вы убили мобов, из которых падает питомец, шанс выпадания, а также показывает на сколько этот шанс увеличился с кол-вом убитых мобов. То есть, если вы убили 1 моба, он покажет шанс 0.01%. Если 2000 мобов, то 24%.
До этого бил без него и быстро... сдался. х) А так... поставил себе планку - 2000 мобов, и это помогло...)

UPD.
Первого попугая продал за 10к. (: Решил бить второго. Выбивал в прежнем месте, Мыс Тернистой Долины 48,36. Думал, сейчас убью тысячи 2 пиратов и снова будет попугай... А нет. (: 2000... 3000...4000... 5000... А попугая все нету. 5 дней его бил. (ужас, 5 дней уже прошло? =D ). Вот и сейчас... полетел бить пиратов, лупасил, лупасил, решил на вовхед заглянуть посмотреть про этого попугая, шанс дропа, с кого бы ещё побить, почитал коменты, открыл свернутый вов, убил пиратов пару штук и попугай тут же дропнулся. :D В принципе, как и в первый раз... Я тоже перед тем, как дропнулся первый попугай читал коменты, смотрел вовхед... Вовхед помогает настроится на правильную волну. :D
Попугай выпал с 5618 моба по данным аддона Rarity.
Может третьего ещё выбью... :D

Второго попугая тоже продал за 10к. =D Выбил третьего только что.
С тролля какого то...)

Фармить данного спутника крайне не рекомендуется (слишком маленький шанс дропа). Если вам он нужен для ачивки или чего-то подобного, то лучше купите его на аукционе. Обычно выпадает если того не желаешь!

10799 мобов. Сначала фармил троллей, потом всех подряд. Выпал в итоге с мурлока. Попутно нафармил 2,5к шелка и 2к шерсти. Серьёзно, купите лучше на ауке, он не стоит такого геморроя :)

В общем тоже решил попытать удачу и выфармить его. Прилично полетав остановился на месте вверху слева северной тернистой долины. Там база троллей с достаточно большой плотностью населения.

Фармить буду наверное каждый день, но недолго. Использую аддон rarity.

1-2 день:
Убито 700 мобов, выпало несколько редких зелёных рецептов, которые были успешно проданы на аукционе. Так же упало много зелёнки процент выпадения которой такой же как и у попугая, это радует. Хотя на данный момент слабо верится, что я когда-нибудь отрапортую о его выпадении.

3-4 день:
Убито 2500 мобов, лут всё тот же. Порадовал выпавший учебник на противоядие для первой помощи. Руки понемногу привыкают к фарму. Ещё кстати выбил 2 синьки (топор и жезл). Лучше б петов!)

4-8 день:
Убито 7500 мобов. Начал продавать ткань/выпала 1 пиратская шапка, продал за 2к. Денег уже хватает на ару. Но либо я его выбью, либо попаду в книгу рекордов гиннеса. Всё же хотелось бы первого и поскорее... Аддон Rarity сменил свой статус с двух петов падающих из троллей на "Невезучий".

Начитавшись комментариев тоже решил нафармить этого питомца. За два дня убил 8111 троллей на севере тернистой долины, и попугай выпал. (динозаврик упал с 1799 моба) Кеманорель, Ясеневый лес.

Параллельно выпало около 120 стаков шелкового материала и 50 стаков шерсти.

После пяти выбитых мною попугаев на продажу (для меня такой способ добычи денег проще, чем торговать по мелочи), решил все-таки выбить попугая и себе. (: А то ведь скоро битвы питомцев и хотелось бы попробовать эпического питомца в бою. (: Попугай упал примерно после 2-ух тысяч убийств пиратов Тернистой Долины.
К моему сожалению способности питомца не оказалась уникальными и индивидуальными, которые бы были только у него. Все способности абсолютно такие же как и у обычных попугаев, таких как Клетка с попугаем (корелла) или Клетка с попугаем (сенегальский). Но стартовые характеристики у меня у этих питомцев разные.
Клетка с попугаем (корелла) - 151 хп, 10 сила, 11 скорость.
Клетка с попугаем (сенегальский) - 154 хп, 10 сила, 10 скорость.
Клетка с попугаем (гиацинтовый ара) - 162 хп, 10 сила, 11 скорость.
Не знаю имеет ли это большое значение... Но все-таки хотелось бы, чтобы у такого редкого труднодобываемого питомца было хоть и маленькое, пускай и не очень значительное, но все-таки отличие (кроме окраски и таких стартовых характеристик) от обычных попугаев, которых любой может купить за серебряные монетки..

Когда-то давно качал своего первого персонажа. Поднял до 30-ого и решил пойти качаться в Тернистую Долину. Там выбил этого попугая почти с первого моба. Я тогда не знал ничего про петов. Да и вообще я мало чего знал про WoW. Ну я взял и заучил эту клетку. Ну потом я стал больше интересоваться этой игрой и тогда уже узнал что это довольно редкий попугай и стоит на аукционе он не дёшево)

Итак,бью пиратов по вечерам уже больше месяца. Убивая их, прокачала превознесение у Круговзора, Прибамбасска и Кабестана. Где-то через 3 недели выпал "детеныш раззаши",а ары все нет. Наверно потому,что я победительница по жизни!)На шелковом материале, который выпадает с мобов, я заработала около 12000 голды, за которые я могу на ауке купить 2 ары,но это уже дело принципа!Пока не выбью, не успокоюсь. Выбила сегодня, 11.01.2016г. Фармила два дня. Первый день била все что движется в Тернистой долине, пиратов и троллей - преимущественно. Чаще всего бегала рядом с Брэддок <Великий знахарь>. После 1600 убийств выпал Детеныш раззаши. Первый день фарма закончила на 3570 убитых мобах. Второй день фармила там же, рядом с Бреддоком, била троллей, динозавров. Птичка выпала с 38 моба. Кто-то писал ранее, что птички выпадали с интервалом (приблизительно) в 3000 убитых мобов. Надеялась на эти цифры =) Пользовалась аддоном Rarity. Всем удачи!

I found one on the AH for 35 silver. I debated whether to sell it or not but I never found another on Windrunner to buy so I bound it. That's the only reason I've not deleted that toon.
Much easier to get lucky on the AH than to get lucky with a drop. I've farmed bloodsail for over a year off and on with no drops.

As a 70 rogue, I farmed this for 7 1/2 hours straight yesterday, and killed about 2,300 pirates, with no drop. I've farmed for another 2 hours today, but still no luck.
It's pretty maddening killing all the pirates. I recommend keeping an eye on the AH (especially the neutral AH), and hoping to see it up there for a cheap price.

I was grinding outside of booty bay for a few levels, only because it was easy killing. I didn't realize the worth of this bird until I used it to complete my "pirate suit" as I ate a deviate delight. My friend said "that bird is pretty, what's it called?" I checked WoWhead, and lo and behold I just realized I could have sold this for a lot of gold. Even though, it's really awesome knowing you have one of the rarest pets in the game.

Had one of these drop while farming for the First Mate's Hat. I killed maybe 50 pirates. I knew it was rare, but not this rare. There was a First Mate's Hat on the AH for 500g which I was going to try and trade for. But I put the bird up for 1000g buyout just to see. It sold in about 20 seconds. Just goes to show, it never hurts to try!

I recently looted one when leveling my alt in STV. First I thought it was just one of them other buy-able parrots, but every time I loot a semi-rare, I check wowhead if they actually ARE worth something. Luckily I read your comments before I used to beauty, and now I am 500g richer xD

Got one of these when farming for the first mate's hat Pre-BC. Sold it to a player named Hyacinth for a little cheaper than I would have to other people. I saw her running around with it just last week, which made me smile.
These are probably going to be worth a lot more in the expansion with the new achievements to collect lots of non-combat pets.

A rogue guildy claims to have gotten one of these when he was lvl 45 by pick pocketing the pirates listed above. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?

This parrot is the worst thing in the game to farm. Period. In all likelihood, you will spend hours of your life killing thousands of Bloodsail pirates only to find yourseld realizing there were about 100 other things you could be doing with your time more rewarding that farming this thing.

Found one of these looting a swashbuckler while leveling an alt.
At the time I had no idea it was as valuable as it is, and unfortunately equipted it to an alt which I later deleted!

Luckily for me, over the past couple of years I've found people selling them in the Blackwater Auction House's for 50 silvers! Obviously people are still unaware how precious these Parrots are, and mistake them for the commonly sold ones in Bootybay.

So my advice to new pet collectors is to make regular visits to the neutral Auction House's, as this beauty is awfully hard to find as a drop!

For those looking to farm this little beauty: There are several different places to farm for this pet, but the best one I found was on the ships off of the southern point of STV. There are 12-14 spawns on each ship and all of them (except the named mobs) have a chance to drop the parrot. Traveling to the third ship to the west is a bit of a pain, but gives the other two ships time to respawn. Took me approximately 6 hours for it to drop.

0.07% actually equates to 7:10000 (Approximately one per 1.4 thousand kills)
But even then, just because you've killed 1399 mobs, doesn't mean there's any more chance of it dropping from the next one.
Although, maybe that's obvious.

Aside from the maths, I've never seen anyone use this on my server (EU Bronzebeard), or even on the Auction House. Good luck getting this, because unless you're lucky (and/or rich), that's going to take a while.

I have real life birds, parrots and love them. The very first day I made a WoW character my husband came to me and gave me a @#$%atiel (which is the type of birds we keep). I loved it.

As I got to know more about the game I found out about the Hyacinth Macaw. One day when playing with my husband he got this drop and gave the parrot to my alliance priest. I was very happy except for the fact that my main character was a horde priest on the same server and it would have been much nicer to have the pet on her.

Six weeks later we were again mucking about in STV and my husband again picked up this drop. Wonderful guy that he is he gave it to Suelyn and I believe I would be one of the few people anywhere with two hyacinth macaws on the same server. And neither drop particularly farmed.

Hang in there guys, your drops will come.

Dropped for me off a deckhand on the westernmost ship offshore just now. I never thought I would be someone to ever get something rare in this game, but I guess I have something to compare to my Nightsister bracer now, though I can't wear this. :-D

I had this in my alts bank for nearly a year without realising it, I have never ever seen a BoE epic or anything else that sells for a huge amount of gold drop for me so today someone was linking the parrot in guild chat and claimed it was the rarest item in the game and in some servers it sells for 10000 gold, I looked at the link for a while and realised that my alt had it! I was flabbergasted! I instantly logged off and went on my alt and put it in the AH for 10000G BO and 8000 Bid, I was extatic!

I've been hunting this little bastard for MONTHS. No drops. EVER. If you're on Draka server and have one, contact Risukage (Alliance) and I'll gleefully buy it off of you. I'm ONE PET away from the 75-pet achievement, too, and all the ones I'm missing are the super-rare ones like the Oozeling or the crocs from the Shattrath fishing daily. Please, be a pal and help out a pet addict. :(

I think its understandable that the drop rate is so low, i mean when your a higher lvl killing bloodsails is a walk in the park, i can kill a hole area of 20ish bloodsails in about 10 seconds,

seems like im going to have my hands full with this one:) ive farmed every farmable pet so far, whelps, oozeling, firefly and oozeling was hardest grind of em. took around 8k kills to get it. im getting to same numbers with this one and im kinda glad this keeps me busy with the grind. theres nothing better than the moment when you get one of these hc grind items to your loot window:) shall see if i hit 10k kills before i get it:) happy hunting to other vanity pet obsessed people out there:)

This parrot should be a feat of strengh tbh... Going to kill about 100 or so pirates a day just to take a laid back approah so as to not make myself go insane... But yes should be a feat of strength to farm & an acheivment to own imo.

The Hyacinth Macaw is an almost extinct bird, they live in central/eastern South America, Brazil. It's the largest macaw and the largest flying parrot species in the world.

My GF has been farming for this pet for weeks if not longer. No luck. So stressed out and afraid it didn't exist. I've two accounts, ally on one, horde on other, so I have farmers on both sides helping us (we're horde btw). Offering 1000g for one pet, 3000g for two. Many help, but no drop.

Apparently, some guy got it to drop, didn't know what it was, AH'd it for cheap to some guy who's reselling for 10kg. He's on Alliance side, and the economy on the Ally side of the Blackwing Lair realm is dead.

A Horde DK was farming Booty Bay rep by killing pirates, and he told me he wasn't even looting the mobs. Well, I offered him the same deal, and he started looting. After 200 to 300 kills total, or enough to get into unfriendly (from rock bottom hated), he got one to drop! ^_^_^_^ So excited! I've never seen this pet until now. I hope I get one sooner or later due to it being so rare!

I picked up this pet last night for 400g. The seller clearly didn't know the rarity, so I took advantage of the situation. No one is stopping you from grinding for this birdie, but if you prefer to keep your sanity, I'd recommend waiting for a situation similar to mine to present itself.

I unbelievably, got this drop AND , the first mate's hat in one day, while doing the Stranglethorn Vale quest's. I had no idea of the rarity, of either of these items, but luckily, I saw the hat in the AH, for an insane amount of gold. I decided to look it up, and found out how rare the parrot was as well. The irony of this is, I spent 3 days, and about 20+ hours, getting the pattern for, robes of arcana to drop, which has a supposed 1% drop rate. I got both these extremely rare items, without even trying, and did it in the same night.

Been grinding this pesky bird for a few days now, and now even my guildies are starting to wonder if im not a Chinese farmer. Due to all speculation, they are now starting to shoot out pirate jokes at a high rate.
I don't really know anymore how many I killed so far, but I'm guessing it's closing around the 10k border.
Could've opened up a bookstore or a liquor store I think :/

No Pirate hat either yet, but I did gain 1 Epic Bow , and 2 blues : A belt and a pair of Boots

Just dropped for me after about 4 hours of farming, killed about 1,300 mobs (based on the amount of money I had made, with an average of ~1s per mob and no trips to the vendor). Very, very easy grind as a level 80 shadow priest, I love this pet so much and it was totally worth it. I was honestly expecting something a little more soul-crushing based on the comments here and what friends have told me who have tried to farm the pet, but all you need is some free time and determination to run pirates down with a steamroller for a few hours.

Happy hunting to you fellow pet collectors out there! This was going to be the "final boss" of my pet grinds (I have farmed every single rare pet that drops from mobs and was putting this off until last because of how hard I thought it would be) and I wasn't expecting it to be easier than getting the oozeling, which took me roughly three days on and off to farm. XD You just gotta relax and don't tear your hair out over it, run back and forth between the three pirate ships popping everything in sight, and it'll drop for you. And besides... while you're out farming, just think of all the free booze you'll be getting to help you through the grind! ;)

Went outside of bootybay, killed all the pirates directly to the left. Ventured north across the river mouth, cleared that out. Got it off one of those mobs. No more than 10 minutes of work including travel time.

I was in SW waiting for the cooldown on my H/S and figured i would go to STV and kill a few pirates seeing as this was only one of 3 drop pets i still needed. Dropped for me on EU-Thunderhorn after about 8 kills on the beach, couldn't believe it i had to pinch myself. I had spent a couple of hours previously a month or so ago but i always expected that i would have to buy this one if i ever wanted to finish my collection.

Good luck to everyone farming this one and to those who might think i'm incedibly lucky to get this on my 8th kill, i too have done my fair share of farming such as 12 hours fishing for the sea turtle mount since the latest patch came out without success. My advice is to just go to STV when you have nothing better to do or are waiting for a raid, etc and just kill a few. Might drop for you too :)

WOW... i cant beleive how rare this is.. i just finished my blood sailers quest killing the 3 captains... and this parrot dropped... my very first pet i found rather than bought from a vendor... i almost had a heart attack when i googled about this little pet....

As someone who has been an avid auctioneer for the past couple years (infants do that for you, you can't quest well with one hand, but you can auction ;p), I have been active on all three auction factions on my (pve) server (as well as a few other servers) and I have only seen this parrot up on any auctions 3 times in the past 2 years. Only 3 times!

Luckily I always check the auction house pets available as a reflex now because last night I saw it (the third time) listed for only 500g. I don't even remember how much it was listed the previous two times except that it was over 5,000g each time (my buyout limit). I didn't even wait to pinch myself before hitting the buyout button!

For everyone that says it dropped for them really fast, that is great and all... for you. Not helpful for me though as I farmed for this parrot (and the whelps) for years with no luck whatsoever. My advice to other collectors is to keep trying to farm it but also check the auction houses every time you are near one. With summer coming up, the odds of it showing up underpriced should only increase. Good Luck!

I tried farming this for a couple weeks on my main, killed over 10k bloodsail in the process, but it never dropped.

Today it finally dropped when I wasn't actually looking for it...I was looking for snuff for the BB quest on my 39 druid. This was one pet I never expected to get "accidentally" nor with a level appropriate character.

Edit: As a pet collector myself, I was very tempted to use the pet, but decided to throw it on the AH for 25k (Alliance, Bonechewer) based on the comments posted here, figuring it wouldn't sell, but knowing I wouldn't be heartbroken if it did, for that price. Lo and behold, 8 hours later it was sold. AH fees aside, I walked away with 23,750g from this drop.

After 5 hours, and 1228 kills I got my very own Hyacinth Macaw. :)

My route was in southern STV, doing the 2 small camps on the beach then moving on to the 3 pirate ships, and repeating.

Totally worth the repetition, and the little guy looks great standing next to his master in her pirate costume and bloodsail title. :p

This was the last stop on my Super Pet Grinding Trip!

First, I went into Zangarmarsh and after 2,342 kills and 4 days (I went crazy on the third day and killed 600 that day and 900 the next...) I got my Captured Firefly!

About 400g made from vendoring stuff.

Then, I went on a whelp trip, getting all 4 in 1 week. The Crimson took 152 kills (Lucky me), the Azure took 592, Dark 1,241 kills, and the Emerald took 926 kills.

All in all I ended up about 600g richer from vendoring stuff and the silver they drop.

I moved into Eastern Plaguelands to get my oozeling, and after 3,621 kills, 341 oozing bags, and 1 week, I got my Disgusting oozeling.

Made 700g from that trip.

Now.... this beauty has eluded me. 5,692 kills into at and no pet, but I dare not even look at my mailbox for the amount of cash flooding in from all the humanoid loot. Been 1 week and 3 days now, I'm gonna get this pet if it's the last thing I do.

Just had one of these drop today, US Azshara, on my 44 priest. Was doing the 'Snuff' quest, and it just dropped on a random Bloodsail Mage. Now I'm trying to debate what to sell it for, as I was under the impression it sold for a high amount. Sadly Azshara doesn't have the kind of economy to put it at 25k, but I'm thinking 8-10k is reasonable.

Was farming this for a close friend of mine. Having already farmed the Firefly, and a whelpling or two, I was kind of confident. However, this pet requires dedication of a whole other league. While the other pets will drop (if you're fortunate) within a few hours, and close to the thousand kill threshold, the Hyacinth Macaw will take FAR more work.

I believe my final count was around 40-50 hours farming, and around 25,000 Bloodsail Pirates killed. It finally dropped for me last night, off a Bloodsail Swabby. I'm well past Exalted with Gadgetzan, Ratchet, and Everlook, found 3 BoE epics (two Staves of Jordan and a Green Tower), a dozen blues, two First Mate hats, and more Volatile Rum then I care to remember. All I can say to someone who wants to farm this pet is... come prepared for the long haul.

I played a Shaman, and ran a small circle counter-clockwise over the beach, Water Walked (glyphed) to the boats, and killed everything I could. I was specced Elemental and using PVP gloves for the range increase to shocks. Because that's all I did. I casted Frost Shock like a billion times. It's enough to one shot anything there if you're in decent gear. Instant Ghost Wolf and Reverberation are very helpful if you're planning to farm this seriously.

In conclusion, I would like to apologize to the low level questing population of Stranglethorn Vale on the Bloodhoof-US server. You are now free from my iron-fisted rule over that questing area.

I got this last year, and I was rather amazed because I wasn't farming it at all. I was leveling an alt in Stranglethorn and had to kill pirates, halfway through my quests, I looted a pirate, and lo and behold, this pet dropped. I sent it over to my main the second I got back to Booty Bay.

This is one of my favorite pets, if not for its beauty as it stands, then the bragging rights. Fellow pet collectors will usually (I've met some who didn't even know it existed) know how rare it is when they see it, while others will usually doubt its rarity... Someone in a battleground once tried to tell me the White Tickbird Hatchling was rarer.

Edit: This pet should totally be connected to a feat of strength, am I right? Something along the lines of "I farmed my brains out for weeks and all I got was a ton of greens, some blues, lots of junk, and a bird."

I like pets, I even sometimes go out of my way to get them, but I wouldn't pay more than 5k for this. Azure Whelpling at 250-500g is fine, Firefly at 800-1k is fine, this I would put at 5k tops (cos it still remains rare) imho.

I had been always wanting to buy one of these so when I saw someone selling one today for 10k and seeing that it was now epic quality I figured I might as well just grab it. Managed to get him to sell it to me for 8,750g.

Worth every copper, especially since it matches my characters hair. It is now the star of my pet collection of 102 pets (soon to be 104 when I get the pink elekk and Grunty).

This is NOT an easy pet to get. It is easily one of the rarest, if not the rarest item that is obtainable in the game. Average time it takes for people insane (or foolish) enough to attempt to get this beauty ranges from anywhere between 10 to 15k kills. Patience is a virtue when it comes to this. Also, if you're attempting to get one of these bad boys yourself, there are a few things you should do to make this less painful:

1. Get water walking potions. The ships contain a ton of pirates (at least 14-15 spawns per ship), and water walking makes it much faster to get from ship to ship without a lot of downtime.

2. Auto loot is your friend. Keep it on at all times, it reduces downtime significantly.

3. Clear out your bags of anything you wouldn't use immediately. Try to keep your bag as empty as possible before farming to reduce trips and once again, downtime.

4. Pace yourself. Don't try to farm it for 7-8 hours or more a day. You will get burned out very quickly. 2-3 hours a day makes for maybe 2 trips at most, and can keep interest going on for a longer period of time.

For people who might be wondering, this is the only attainable EPIC pet in game, without speind yar nice euros dollarz or yen at ebay or at wow tcg cards :D Also notice that this pet was selling from 6k-25k g depending realm, people selling at same time.... BEFORE it became an epic.

As for now a price or 75k might and it is sounding ridiculous, i would suggest a 25k-35k g in the AH. It is after all THE epic pet ;) bigger prices just sound stupid and noone will buy em... except if duh... they love this pet so much xD

I found out about the Hyancinth Macaw while looking for cool pets for my son's Hunter. I farmed for weeks with my lvl 80 Night Elf Druid with no luck. I gave up and was levelling his Hunter yesterday in BB when it dropped off of Pretty Boy Duncan. He was so excited.

He decided to try to sell it and farm one for himself. So it is now on the AH...<sigh>

He did keep the Humar the PrideLord I snagged for him last week. Now, that is an awesome pet!

Im the kind of player that just wants to do all the odds and ends in the game, especially the pointless "status" achievements, pets and other vanities.

A few days back i started farming rep and items to prepare for the insane achievement, hearing that you didn't actually have to keep your status at honored with bloodsail to gain the achievement i altered my route to just farm to honored in BB and then farm the bloodsails to exalted to get a shot at the hyacinth and first mates hat at the same time as i worked on getting the cartel's rep up.

I have farmed alot of vanity pets such as the oozeling, all the whelps and im still working on the firefly so i knew what i was getting myself into. Also considering the wicked ammount of mobs i had to kill to reach exalted would in it own be a stiff sitting or two. This combined with knowing that i probably wouldn't even see the darn bird or hat drop during that farm anyway, i stocked up greatly on materials to ease the farming. You know what im talking about; The essential cokes, energydrinks, crisps. The things that yells "Hey, im sittin' here for a while!"

After all the preparation i started farming the bloodsails, running though the 3 boats and then following the shore upwards killing every pirate in my way to reach "pretty boy"'s little camp and then returning to the boat to rinse and repeat. After about 3-4 hours the item i thought i'd never see drop suddenly revealed itself in the corpse of a swabber on one of the boats.

There i was, stocked up for the most insane farm ever. And the parrot drops in a miniscule ammount of time! That's not the kind of luck i usually experience (the whelps alone took me weeks, dont even start about the oozeling)

Im still at 18,000/36,000 hated for BB so i got a load of killing left to do, and i really wouldn't have minded if the bird could have waited to drop until later. Now it feels like i accomplished what i sat down to do, and the motivation is gone to proceed killing.

Im happy anyway, some people get lucky. I wish you extreme luck on finding this gem, it really is worth all praise it has ever gotten.

looted this three and a half years ago when i was lvling up my warrior in STV. sold it for 30g.. even got told off by a few people in tells about how i was price gouging before it sold. of course there wasn't as much of a pet craze back then as there is today other than the whelp pets. no one wanted any of the parrots. tho it's good to know it's worth over 20k to the right buyer these days. excuse me while i got drown myself in a bucket of bleach.

here is a very easy guide on how to grind it.there will be a small cluster of islands right outside of the coast were you find bloodsails.on 2 there will be boats.skip from 1 boat to the next,clearing them.By the time that you clear all 3,the first 1 should have fully respawned .keep doing this until you get the parrot.

Been farming a while for this for my girlfriend's birthday. I already managed to get the firefly and some of the hatchlings but I can't get this one.

Last week we went to another server and made 2 DK's. We went to STV for the bloodsail quests and guess what? The darn thing dropped, though she didn't get it on the character she wanted it on.

She doesn't know I'm still grinding for it and 2 BoE world epics and a blue later, I still don't have it. :(

I just parked my hunter in BB for a few weeks and farmed Bloodsails in my downtime. Much easier to do with the new LFG tool that teleports you to the instance and back again to where you were! I finally got this bird between heroics last night. I'll be giving it to my Goblin when Cata hits!

Also got a ton of silk & mageweave for my lvl 25 warlock who's a tailor.

*edit* I didn't gank any Alliance the entire time I was there, just in case you are wondering if there are any nice people in the game.

Saw this one popping up on my realm for bidding only starting at 2k gold. Two days later I checked and the prices went up to 6.7k gold. Some people really want this badly.

Though I strongly suggest farming this if you really want this, before getting Avast Ye, Admiral achievement. It'll take a little longer but at least it gives you the chance to get exalted with Bloodsail AND Steamwheedle.

I had this drop for my Rogue in July of 2006. After trying to sell it for three days in the AH without luck I went on vacation and forgot about it until well after is had been deleted from my mail. So, I've been looking at all the math and calculations everyone has been putting in for this little bird and came to the conclusion it is nigh impossible to acquire. Just for the fun of it, I decided to start farming to kill the time in between loads of laundry.

15 minutes into the first session of killing BLAM!

After the initial shock I check my bags once again to make sure (have to love Auto-loot), there he be, my little Purple Hyacinth.

So yes, approximately 35 kills got me this gorgeous little guy. The hard decision was "Do I sell or do I keep?"

He has been hoarded into my own personal collection.

My advice on becoming a proud owner for this pet? Don't try for him too hard. Leave your expectations low and just farm in between tasks. There is a much better chance of him dropping if you don't expect it than if this is all you're trying for (see metaphor "Watched pot never boils")

:D this pet sells for around 8 grand in real life and on my server sells for 15 grand. It was once a regular quality pet but was recently upgraded to epic quality( purple)
it drops off the people near booty bay.. The pirates. the drop rate is so low so if u have a will u will eventually get it. HAVE FUN

Hi, Irrad here from Feathermoon. I was doing the snuff quest on my lvl 42 hunter alt and it dropped. Pure luck, no farming, didn't even know what it was or that it existed. I was very shocked to see a purple and almost used it there to find out what it was. I instead came here and looked it up. Well, I owe a friend 9k that I borrowed to help me get my Tundra traveller mammoth recently and I sent this macaw to them. They refused because I like cosmetic pets more then them. Wanting to pay them back I said I'd give it a week to sell at 20k and if no one buys then I'll use it. No takers yet so with 3 days left to go I thought I'd post here for deticated pets hunters. Anyone interested in a Hyacinth Macaw on Feathermoon for 20,000 gold? I would love to use it myself but as I only have 300 gold left to my name after the mammoth, a 9000 gold debt to a dear friend who won't force me to pay but I feel bad owing so much to, and hungry alts to feed I should make an honest attempt. I saw someone buy this for 10k on my server in the midst of people whining in trade chat that the seller was charging WAAAAY too much for the pet. The buyer said, "Why not? I have the gold," and bought it right there. Saw the toon a few minutes later with the parrot out. That player earned my instant respect. It's just in game gold, after all, so don't listen to the criticism of people who can't believe you paid that much for a pet. Just go for it if you want it!

That said, since they made the item purple you are much less likely to find a good deal on it in the auction house. People now know they've found something special right from the get go.

Farming for this pet is indeed relentless. I used to try for the odd hour or so without luck, but as my collection neared completion I felt it was time to acquire this elusive beauty.

I followed the boat route north, before heading south along the beach to the camp where I could also vendor the drops. Very easy as a feral druid with 30% increased speed in cat form, feral swipe that one-shots all nearby pirates, and aquatic form to make swimming less painful.

I started off at neutral with Booty Bay, and by the time the parrot finally dropped (from a deckhand on the most northern boat) I was just into exalted, with only named mobs giving rep beyond honoured... so no idea how many pirates that is, but it's a lot!

Whilst farming I also got a couple of First Mate Hats (much nicer than my Bloodsail Admiral one) and a few world epics, which if anything help you along with the assurance that at least rare stuff does drop!

Although I have more than enough gold to buy one (going for anything between 8-20k on my server), I felt the farm worth it for the incredible sense of achievement when you finally have your own drop!

My brother, on the other hand, had his simply drop whilst questing... all comes down to luck, in the end.

Now come the fact that it is epic is there any way I could contact a GM, and point out a fact that they upgraded an already equipped item of mine without telling me? I had this on my druid way before BC, when it was still white and the icon was a box. I recently started playing again (quit just before wotlk came out) and logged onto my druid for fun and noticed I could 'use' my companion pets, so I did.

I have now made a completely new character, on a new server, who is my main now, and I'm so mad I can't transfer this incredibly rare pet because I'm going for all the achievements/pets/whathaveyous on this new character, AAGH.

Oh well maybe I'll get lucky. again.

After 11,200 kills (less really, since the named NPCs are worth 5x as many points -- 10,500 perhaps?) I just got my Hyacinth Macaw two minutes ago.

Thoughts.

1 - If you don't wanna destroy your Buccaneer rep, use a level 58 DK for this. Blood spec with the glyph of heart strike does wonders for keeping them from running. And their running gets very annoying after while. (I never tried to do this unholy, but I suppose having a permanent ghoul killing runners would be handy as well).

2 - Farming this is mind-crushingly boring. Put on music or a tv in the background. Listen to podcasts on your computer. Sit in Ventrilo with your guild. Anything to keep your mind going.

3 - Although it takes quite a bit of time to farm this, the fact that this pet can go for 20k or more (with a little luck and a couple of weeks on the auction house) might actually make this a beneficial way to make money for people who hate auctioning lots of stuff and don't mind farming the same stuff over and over.

4 - You'll make a fair amount of misc. money doing this. Not a lot, but a little. I got two world epics (worth 300-400 each), 4-5 blues, a mess of greens (most of which I vendored), assorted recipes (which I auctioned), and tons of mageweave cloth (that auctions nicely for 15g or so a stack). All in all, perhaps 2000g for several days of work.

5 - Although not listed on the drop table, apparently the named guys (at least Fleet Master whatever) can drop the pet. So they're work killing. I did skip the stone golem ship pilot as he has a ton of armor and he annoyed me. Lousy drops, too.

6 - The pet finally dropped for me several moments after I finally accepted that there was no way in hell it was going to drop for me tonight, and that I'm in for at least several days of additional farming. Only by accepting that you have no chance in hell of actually getting the pet will you actually get it. : )

There are three of these on the ally-Shadowmoon AH for 39k, so I thought it wise to check here. It's rare to see something priced that high on the AH, except for those people that like putting lesser magic essences up for the max buyout. lol.

Edit: Since Cataclysm the drop table for this has clearly changed a lot so the info in this post is no longer relevant apart for historic comparison (or you could use the archive link at the top left;)
NB: The below table was originally prepared because wowhead was rounding all drop rates to 0 because they were so low

I just did math off the drop list and the drop rate does appear to be close to a 1 / 10000 chance!

The actual math is from the observed drops on wowhead of 97 total drops off of 870838 kills total = 0.01114% (1 / 8978)

Note:

Wow Armory lists 10 mobs that drop the Parrot, yet only 9 have been observed by Wowhead (I included the recorded kills of Fleet Master Firallon in my calculation)
There doesn't look like enough observed drops yet to get an accurate drop chance
The above drop chance is assuming each mob has the same chance to drop the parrot and other changes to drop chance weren't made while Wowhead has been tracking, otherwise it is really anyones guess... (see below for individual drop rates observed by Wowhead as at time of this post)

Started farming this Bird last Monday, farmed around 7 - 9 hours each day. This finally dropped for me on Saturday Evening after another 2 hours of farming. Really really hard pet to farm and I agree with some of the posters here. It is MINDNUMBING to find :/. Easiest route to farm this is to follow a Moon Route. You Start at Pretty Boy just outside of Bouty Bay then make your way to the Beach (GO RIGHT) and run down till you get to the Pirate camp where there's that vendor. Once there you run to the Three ships and Proceed back to Pretty Boy.

Following that route gives you +/- 75 pirates to kill, and it really doesn't take that long to complete one cycle.
Dunno if I can boast like most of the farmers here claiming that they're exalted with BB after farming for the pet. I'm only a little past honored and by my calculations I've killed between 4,700 - 5,200 Pirates.

Currently I am trying to sell this pet on my realm, but it's really hard seeing as some people don't see the rarity of the pet and spam that I'm a naab trying to sell it....

I guess it'll take about the same amount of time to sell this ^_^

I started farming this pet roughly 2 weeks ago (6.4.10) currently doing around 2k kills per farming session every day.

Thus far this pet has escaped my grasp. It is indeed the rarest of all the pets and i am sure will take me longer to get yet.

I wouldn't dream of selling this pet as i think it is the most amazing looking pet in-game to date.

I happened to be in STV because I decided I wanted the Helmet Nesingwary achievement though I otherwise had not done quests there. Since I was there, I picked up this one easy sounding quest that was still showing for me--check out the cove north of Booty Bay. The parrot dropped on my 5th kill. Didn't realize how valuable it was til my son told me to check out the AH before I used it myself. It's not even on the AH on our high-population server. I want to use it so bad, but jeepers that is a LOT of gold, even if it is play money.

A friend & I always give eachother really nice presents in-game for birthdays, christmas etc and have been doing so for 2 years now. So far I've given her all farmable pets (raptors, firefly, whelplings, oozeling etc) apart from this 1. From the 1st of march I started to prepare for my next present (her birthday is in june but especially for this pet I really felt like it would be a good idea to start in time, which wasn't a bad idea considering it was easier to farm all the other pets together) and today I finally managed to get this little beauty.

MobInfo2 shows me the following stats:
Bloodsail Mage: 5091 Loots
Bloodsail Raider: 4966 Loots
Bloodsail Swashbuckler: 6196 Loots
Bloodsail Warlock: 5857 Loots

I used to farm the boats at first, however I ended up just farming the coast areas instead, it just felt better for some reason (I think I killed about 4000 pirates on the boats, but I didn't have MobInfo running at that time).

I ended up with 7 world epics:
-Bow of Searing Arrows
-Dazzling Longsword (2x)
-Gloves of Holy Might
-Staff of Jordan
-Icemail Jerkin
-Boots of Avoidance

I gave them away to by-passing levelers, in return for killing their quest mobs. Gold is the least of my worries, I just wanted the damn pet :).

All in all I've killed about 25.000-30.000 pirates for this pet and I'm looking forward to giving it to her, especially since I had to promise her that I would never farm this pet, because it's just sooo hard to get.

Does it excist? Yes.
Is it worth the farm? Hard to say, she is a real collector of pets/mounts/achievements etc and giving her a good present, after all that she has done & gone through for me, is for sure worth the effort for me.
Would I recommend getting the gold for it and just buying it when you can instead of actually farming for it? If you don't value your source of getting the item (AH or effort into farming the mobs), then yes, go get the gold and save yourself weeks, possibly months or even years of time.

I was on my warrior, lvl 43. Just doing quests in STV and suddenly the first pirate I kill on the boats, this bird dropped for me. I thought, should I keep or should I sell? So I did some research and it sells pretty high! I am trying to sell it for 16k gold. it normally costs 20k gold. So any pet collectors that are reading this, please. I am in realm: Exodar. My toon it is on is Alicè (alt 0232). Hopefully when you see this I will still have it for you. If not, I am sorry!

For people that are extremely cautious about farming the pet and when it does come up, remember this pet is an EPIC pet so if you are farming it with people, make sure you have loot to free for all so that the person you dear so trust to farm with you does not need roll on it from something you looted.

While killing the Bloodsails on the three boats, as a Goblin Engineer, i discovered a fun way to pull a whole boatload (pun intended) of them: Global Thermal Sapper Charge! Set this baby off and the whole boat will come running to you! That's at least one boat every 5 mins of farming you don't have to go down into.

I have been farming this pet every day for around 2 weeks now, at least 4-5 hours a day.

From Honoured with most of the Steamweedle Cartel I almost hit exalted with the amount of mobs i'd farmed, so I decided to attain the Bloodsail Admiral title so the rep would be put to good use.

That was 3 days ago now, I was 0/36,000 hated with Booty Bay and I am now 3680/6000 Friendly. You do the maths, that is a lot of mobs.

So far i've had 3 epic BOE world drops (The Green Wall x2 and one Staff of Jordan) and also a First Mate Hat drop. Still no parrot as of yet.

The funny thing is, as far as i'm aware i've been the only person on this server farming it this hardcore (I have yet to see someone else farming it as much as me) and yet the 4 days ago I saw someone put one up on AH. Kind of annoying. But it gets worse...

I was AFK today and was killed, and I presumed it was the Night Elf DK I stumbled on in the decks of one of the ships, so naturally I killed her. She then messaged me asking why and I explained it must have not been her, apologised and it was all ok.

...An hour later she messages me telling me the spot's all mine and that the parrot had dropped. It seems to be dropping for everyone that touches these mobs except me, and i'm relatively lucky in WoW, every rare pet i've farmed has dropped within 30 minutes, have both level 60 legendaries, both ZG mounts, Red Resonating Crystal, White Hawkstrider... You get the idea, but this parrot is just REFUSING to drop.

Anyway sorry for ranting, i'll continue farming and edit when it finally drops!

EDIT: I am now Revered with Booty Bay and with every other Steamweedle Cartel rep, still no drop!

While I was leveling my hunter I had 2 drop for me in the space of 20 minutes while I was playing at work. Workmate who played wow cursed me for my luck, ending up selling both for about 15k g each which for a lv38 (in tbc) was quite nice :).

But now I've been collecting pets and cursing myself for selling both...oh now I've been grinding on my ret for days I think I used up my luck :P. I would generally recommend a farming pattern of starting where the beach meets the jungle (just outside and to right of BB as you exit it) down the beach, to the paired boats, over to the northern boat and back to the beach. You can sell any random rubbish you have to the vendor at the bloodsail camp and if you're bags are full make a detour to BB when you return to the beach starting point and mail all the cloth etc to a bank alt.

now iv been farming this on and off for lke the past 3 months and i have yet to see one (i was going from boat to boat) but after the frst day or 2 (after i had mentioned it to my guild) there were about 9 or 10 other people killing the pirates (i don't know if they were farming or not) it got really hard to get a kill so i stoped for about a week after that i saw one on the horde AH for about 10k i diddent buy it but i think i was the one who started the craze but im not gloating lol.

just as a side note this is a good item to look for after you get the blood sail admrial title thats one of the reasons i did it (i diddent get the title but i tried now it sucks)

Got lucky on my server, found someone willing to sell it, nabbed it at 10k gold. Had the gold to spare, so I'm quite happy considering before I had originally bought WoW, I was a kid and reading through the strategy guide that I had bought (yeah, I actually bought one of those) I was always like "wow I'm gonna get me one of those". Apart from this pet, the only other pet that triggered this kind of nostalgia is the easily obtainable parrot from deadmines, which was easily one of my favorite instances when I was younger.

PS: the guy was considering waiting until Cataclysm launches, and wanted to sell it for 20k at that point, so I nabbed a great deal imo.

It might be a good time to focus on getting the pet now, because we still have no preview of what is happening to STV after the Cataclysm, so it might very well be unobtainable, as I'm sure some of the whelplings will be (the azure whelpling most notably, as Azshara is becoming a low level zone in the next expansion).

Some kid on our server kept spamming I WTB this Bird over and over in trade and it made a lot of people try an farm it impulsively. I flew over and killed prolly I dunno 50 bloodsails? It dropped for me. It actually dropped for another person around the same time cause he put in general that he got one! Sold it for 11k to a nice lady who was very excited to have the pretty bird :)

My friend kept farming this for a whole day, and I told him to give up, the drop chances were too low and that it would never drop. He refused to quit and kept killing. He claims to have killed over 6000, and then one day, a level 42 paladin ran by. The level 42 paladin was doing quests and killed a few bloodsail buccaneers and got the parrot. He bragged and showed my friend in trade (I was watching my friend farm at the time) and I told him to offer some gold. Maybe the level 42 paladin was a noob and didn't know the worth. But the stupid paladin asked for 35k gold, and had heirlooms, so we knew he knew the rarity. Poor kid... All that farming for someone to take his kill.

Well, maybe. Hyacinth Macaws are covered by the Cites Treaty:

After 3 days of non-stop farming (probably averaged on 7-8 hours / day) I got it.

It all started with a guildmate making a post about how everyone should get Aurora Robes to use at guild meetings where trialists would either be accepted or refused. Anyway, I decided I might aswell farm the robe in STV with a chance of parrot dropping. I *cough cough* got kinda obsessed with getting the parrot after I killed 1-2k pirates... I just couldn't stop. So it went on.

I was doing it on my lvl 80 DK and it was very smooh. He never did any quests for Steamwhelde afaik and he's now 1-2k into revered by mostly killing the mobs that give +2/+3 rep. So I killed quite a bunch. The robe dropped earlier today and I was thinking I should quit but couldn't shake the thought "If I quit some random lvl 40 will come and get it...". So I ran around and kept killing.

Now from my experience the best place is the ships and beach. You can run around killing stuff without having to wait for repspawns. And there's the vendor (that sells admirals hat pattern). So you can dump unwanted stuff on him. Downside on this side is that you're usually not alone. Many times there's somebody questing or farming.

Other side can also be nice but I found out that you either have to wait for respawns or ride around and start over from the creek where Pretty-Boy is (near Booty Bay). But at Bloodsail Compound there's lots of spawns and then you ride to the little hill south of Gurubashi Arena where there's around 15 or so. And back to compound and wait or ride to creek and start over (DK path of frost is gold for this farm no matter what side you do it on).

Beach + ships:
+ no waiting around for respawns if alone
+ a vendor
+ lots of pirates
- usually crowded
- need waterwalking to make it smooth

(Creek) + Compound + Hill:
+ lots of pirates
+ usually there alone
- have to wait for respawns
- more riding around

Now I can't really say that I'm lucky since it took maybe 7-8k kills. On the other hand I could still be sitting and killing pirates.

Now I must post a screen for the guildmate that made me go out and farm the robe in the first place ^^

I got one by rng the other day and promptly put it up in the AH. Starting bid 19k, buyout 20k. I know, I know, that's an outrageous price and I didn't expect to get it--I was more just interested in what was the absolute maximum I'd be able to sell it for. Next day it didn't sell, I lowered bid/buyout by 1k each, did that 3 days in a row. Final day I forgot a 0 and put it up for 1600 buyout. It was gone almost as soon as I listed it. Somebody was probably saying "sucker" to herself as she was opening her mail :D

Picked one up for 16k a couple months ago on Drenden US. First one I'd ever seen on the AH, and only one since.

If you have the money, and you're a pet collector, I'd recommend buying it ASAP if you see it. There's not exactly a lot of competition to drive down prices.

I don't know if this information is useful to anyone, but after killing a crap ton of pirates i decided to figure out just how long it would take me to get the bird.

I counted 40 spawns on the boats (thats including the 5 that are on the sand parts by the boats), with an additional 10 or so spawns on the beach that you can kill before the first boat is ready to clear again. That's 50 total pirates (give or take).

My fastest clear was about 8 minutes, but more realistically i would say my average was 10 minutes to clear one cycle of pirates.

Assuming warcraftpets.com is correct that this bird is a 1 in 5000 drop rate:

5000/50 = 100 clears.

100 clears * 10 Minutes per clear = 1000 minutes

1000 minutes / 60 minutes per hour = 17 hours.

Bottom line: There's a reason why this bird is so damned expensive.

Well, for anyone seriously thinking of farming this....you have my sympathy. I just reached exalted with the 3 goblin factions you can get rep with from killing these pirates. That's well over 15 THOUSAND kills. Plus the other 8 toons I've leveled through here killing these, with one other toon that's into revered with all 3. I estimate probably 25 thousand kills + over all my toons, over 5 years (yes I've been farming it since long before it became epic. I'm a pet addict. It's the only dropped pet I don't have yet)
I still have not had this pet drop. :(
GMs assure me it is still in the game as of yesterday though. *sighs*

In preparation for Cataclysm I figured I'd farm out each of the rare pets in Azeroth that I didn't have in case, for whatever reason, they become harder (or even easier) to get, or are forgotten or gone completely.. I started with the raptors then made my way to the whelps, and then came to this one after growing tired of farming black whelps..

I wasn't very hopeful, I am already exalted with 3/4 Goblin Reps (ratchet being all that's left).. So I put on some stupid anime overlapping my screen and ran around in moonfire'd. I almost fell out of my seat when I looted it after only a few rounds of boat to shore..

All I can say is I'm glad it didn't take as long as some (I never get lucky so this was a wonderful turn of events) and it is by far one of the prettiest companions out there. 10 kills or 10,000 kills.. it's totally worth it.

I love vanity items, I really do. The thrill of farming, killing mobs endlessly and keeping track of the progress with the help of a mob addon so you know how much crap you've been through. The four whelps were a baseballbat to the nuts, I haven't even found the green one even though I've had alot of extended periods of farming. The oozeling, let's just say I'm sick of bags! The captured firefly? I killed so many (innocent) sparkly bugs over such a long course of time! I have indeed indulged in many hours of self-torture. Some farming payed off, others are still running projects.

Yeah, you know that feeling when the sucker drops? You've been averaging 7 cups of coffee a night the past week, farming in a monotone manner while slowly reaching your wits end and all of a sudden you harvest the fruit of that effort. That's the best feeling available in wow, in my humble opinion.

So, I basically had a hunch about what I was getting myself into when I decided to farm the . Obviously, I had stocked up with godlike ammounts of crisps, coke and sweets to prepare for one hell of a farm. There have been many times when I farmed pirates for longer and shorter sittings, always harboring the slight hope of a lucky drop, but this time was different. It wasn't gonna be just another attempt, this time I planned to do THE farm. This would mean that I'd plant my ass down and I wouldn't move until i saw that rumored treasure-of-a-bird laying before my feet! I started rounding the ships right off the coast picking up a very fashionable speed. When the mobs in the ships were down I'd take a lap along the beach clearing it, then I'd just rinse and repeat. Never a dull moment, mobs respawned way before you'd begin your next lap.

After 2 hours I really got into the rythm.
Yeah, despite the former statement about farm pretty much sucking donkeyballs, I still sometimes enjoy doing the actual farming. And I was just about to take a sweet landing right into one of those moments. I felt like I could spend atleast another 6 hours straight farming and still be in a top mood and psyched to keep going... Aaaand the bastard drops, way too early!

I should have been satisfied, but the farm wasn't really enough.
You see, this whole farming is like sex; And I just came during the foreplay.

However, it's one hell of a pretty bird and i think i can live with that.
I hope you guys will get just as lucky.

I don't think so. But lots of people are levelling through STV now, and it's believed they drop of all mobs in the zone, so whilst the drop rate per mob is the same, the actual drop rate is increased as you're not limited to just a handful of mobs.

All mobs in STV drop the parrot + tons of people leveling in the zone = more in the AH.

It's still an insane drop rate and most people will never see it drop. Ever.

I just began farming this thing as of yesterday and I ended up finding two within 3 hours.

Spent the last four hours camping Chief Gaulus' location. He has a one minute respawn rate, so I just kept killing him everytime he spawned... anyway, one finally dropped. I was so happy when I looted the corpse and saw the purple colored epic item.

Sold it not even 10 minutes later, for 12k gold in trade (lowest in AH was 16k)

Will definantly camp out there again when I have the time. Hella-easy gold, if you got the patience and time

Quite sad that the most beautiful pet in the game does not keep up with our flying mounts. Actually none of the parrot pets do. I think Blizzard should teach these little guys how to fly "higher and faster"!

I found my Hyacinth just a few feet inside the cave at Kurzen's Compound from one of the stealthed guys. I had been running a quest and completely unaware that I could even find the bird there! So someone might want to add that area to the mix when looking at drop rates and creatures that drop the Hyacinth.

Interestingly enough, the price in WoW generally reflects the price of a Hyacinth Macaw in real life. They cost somewhere around $12,000 and are the largest of all parrots. You do get some bang for your buck, though, as this pet will live 75 years or more.

Before patch 4.0.3 the Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw) had a very low drop rate, I saw maybe 1 of these in the AH in a year.
Now with patch 4.0.3. I have seen atleast 20 of these in the Horde and Alliance auction house,
and there are 5 of these in the alliance AH right now, (9500g -12500g) and 1 in the Horde AH (30,000g).
There is no doubt the drop rate is much higher for these as of patch 4.0.3.

Another item that use to have a low drop rate was Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight which would regularly sell on Horde side for 500g and and up to 2200g on Alliance side (I actually sold a few for 1800-2200g before the patch but if I wanted to sell them the same day 1200g would work). Now they are so common I have seen them sold for as little as 1g on Horde side and 25g on Alliance side.

I just had mine drop while farming Steamwheedle rep from the Bloodsail mobs.

Personally, I don't think the drop rate has increased, I think the greater numbers of them are a direct result of them becoming a zone drop rather then bloodsail mobs only. This means that EVERY single mob killed by people doing quests in STV has a chance to drop it, rather than just the bloodsail mobs killed in relatively small numbers/only by people grinding rep/specifically farming the pet.

Got mine off a Ящер-кнутохвост while doing the Nesingwary chain (Охота на ящеров). Sold for 3,000 gold on Vek'Nilash EU to a random chap in SW, quite a nice bit of gold considering I had no other characters at the time, you might want to stick around Stranglethorn just to get the pet if you're new to the server or WoW itself.

I recommend farming it by simply going on a killing spree, kill everything in your sight since every mob has a chance to drop it, easy to do if you outlevel the zone.

This pet is now able to fly alongside you on your flying mount. They've also fixed the annoying and somewhat spastic flapping it used to make with its wings. It now moves more naturally, which is definately a nice fix.

This change probably applies to various other (flying) pets as well.

After Cata dropped I went back to redo all of the vanilla quests for the achievement points even though I have Loremaster. While in Stranglethrorn Vale I was doing a quest to kill the river crocodiles and loot their skins and I looted the parrot off of one of them. I was only looting corpses that required it (I thought this pet only dropped off the pirates so it never crossed my mind to loot everything, so there's no telling if that's the only one I got. Sigh.

Just finished raising the last of the four Steamwheedle factions to Exalted. I didn't count how many bodies I looted, but I can tell you, sadly, that I still don't have this companion. At this point, if it drops, it will be a fluke of some sort as I have no reason to ever again kill an NPC in StV.

By all accounts this is now a STV zone drop. I suspect that the high drop rate on Chief Gaulus is purely because people are reading these and farming him. If more people farm him, then more people will get it from him. This doesn't mean that he has a higher drop rate, just that this is statistical sampling error.

Despite what this is worth, you're likely going to need some patience; 4.5k (or whatever the going rate on your server is) for a pet isn't a small amount. Expect ridicule and abuse, and many people saying hell no before it sells.

I was casually skinning Старая горилла из Мглистой долины for leveling Leatherworking, and Hyacinth dropped from about the 30th Gorilla I killed. I remembered that I have seen this companion from 10k to 20k gold so so in AH, so I knew it was very rare and was very happy of my luck.
Anyway, I decided to stay with Hyacinth because gold goes and comes constantly, but I surelly won't never loot again this beauty ^^ and I like to collect companions :)

The average person will kill 4,500 mobs before he loots the bird. This means that for every person who had it drop on mob #45, there is someone who had it drop on mob #450,000.

Or 10 who had it drop on #45,000, or whatever. But yeah, basically, people need to learn what random means.

It does not mean one in every possible group of 4,500 kills will loot the pet. It does not mean that if you kill 4,499 mobs in STV you are guaranteed to loot the pet on kill #4,500. It's not affected by how long you spent farming at a time or what you did in between. Random doesn't care if you stayed up 24 hours a day for a week killing the specific mobs that are listed as having the best drop rate or if you wandered all over the zone over a period of months killing what you felt like when you felt like it. It doesn't mean that if you were farming an area at the same time as someone else and he got it and you didn't that he "stole" "your" pet. It doesn't even mean that you would have looted the pet if you had killed that spawn of that mob instead of him.

What it means is that any given kill has a 1/4,500 chance to drop the pet. That's it and that's all. You don't have a better or worse chance to loot the pet on kill #2 or kill #45 or kill #37,942 than you did on kill #1.

It means you might find 50 of them in a row or none, ever, at all. It's random.

Well after atleast 4 years of hunting this little guy on and off (originally on my rogue back in vanilla, lock during bc/wrath and now my retadin in cata) at long last he dropped for me, almost fell off my chair... For those looking for a quick way of getting this little guy, short answer is AH... For those happy or insane enough to farm it for themselves there is only one secret - persistance... RNG will at times have you beating your head against your keyboard, but let me tell you, when your number comes up and u see that little bird drop, youll just abot die from relief and happiness :) During my grinds, i made atleast 10k or nearabouts off grabbing mines when they spawned near me, cloth, greys and DE'ing greens from the npc's i was killing, etc etc... so monetarily you will be compensated reasonably well for your troubles, atleast thats the conclusion i came to... Also got 2 "First Mate's Hat"s on the last few hours of farming which i was stoked about... Look them up on wowhead if you dont know what they are/look like.. they are awesum and icing on the cake :)

Edit... ,most suprising :O Im still over here at the bloodsail camps farming for gobby rep... have had a further 2 Hyacinth macaaw pets drop in the space of half an hour... i feel slightly bitter that it took almost 4 years of frustration to even just get 1 to drop and now i have 3... 1 for my GF and 1 for the ah or an alt i suppose... but im wondering, has the drop rate improved, or am i just really bloody lucky?

Amazing...

Been wanting this pet for a long time. Not because I think it's pretty, but mostly because it's EPIC. However, it is sold for over 10k on the AH, and although I do alright gold wise, that is just too much to spend on a pet. And farming for it? I even hate it when I have to farm for a few Violatile Air in Uldum, let alone a pet with this drop rate!

Today however, I finally got this pet. Somebody (I guess he was new...) upped it for 1000g (yes, not a typo) on the AH. I couldn't believe my eyes, my shaking hand on the mouse found the "buyout" button, and pressed it...

Never did the sound of jiggling coins make me more happy. A purple pet, and mine alone. I salute the newbie who got the drop, and make a "killing" 1000g. Thanks buddy!

If you are Horde, this pet will be 'rarer', and for a good reason.

Most Horde prefer to quest in Kalimdor(Desolace) rather than venture into Eastern Kingdom(Stranglethorn) for level 25-35~, whereas Alliance have a capital city(Ironforge) nearby.

You can find it alot cheaper on the Alliance AH, since there's a higher chance for Alliance players to get hold of it because most Alliance quest in STV for level 25-35~, most Horde never wish to waste time waiting for the lift in Org and the zep just to get to STV to level up a lvl25 alt.

I've got mine for about 4k from Alliance AH, on Horde it's always at around 10k~, this is just my server tho, different server will have different pricing.

If you are going for Littlest Pet Shop Achievement, you should think twice before buying pets like this one with 1% drop rate(or less), this is because 4.3 will implement alot more pets(more than 10), and if you are about 5 short just like me, save your gold for whatever you want to spend on when 4.3 hits.

**** These prices can VARY, depending on the AH players on your realms, this pet could shoot up to some 30k gold for a couple days, you just have to check everyday and get the cheapest one whenever you can.

Just scored this out of the Dungeon Finder Call-To-Arms satchel, so it is a possible drop from that - a damn sight better than the single Potion of the Tol'vir I usually see. My 152nd pet :)

The (49,38) spot in cape of stranglehorn is insane.

This is what I did today:

-me (warlock) and a mage friend.
-Mage friend aoe blasting the camp fire spot, and me felflaming the pirates in the little ravine.

This zone works as such: as soon as the number of spawned pirates goes below a set value (after some testing, I believe it to be around 4), a pirate is forced to spawn. (the spot in tanaris works the same way, but is too large to be efficiently exploited. You only need two people here.)

By alternatively killing for 10min, looting everything, killing for 10min, (which won't be necessary with mists AOE loot) etc. for only 2 hours this is what we netted:

-14k rep (wich represents roughly 4500 kills) with Everlook, Ratchet and Gadgetzan (Booty Bay stops at 5999/6000 friendly, but goes twice as fast: 5 rep per kill instead of 2,5 without perks). Rep farming would be faster if looting was ignored, but those pets are definitely worth it.
-50 stacks of silk Silk Cloth (Thats a thousand Silk)
-enough Volatile Rum to put the entire server in a coma
-a Parrot Cage: Hyacinth Macaw

So if you're working on your cartel rep, farming silk, or simply grinding mobs in Stranglehorn looking for the pets, this is definitely THE spot to go.

Well, I got mine on my main after several irregular days of neverending farming. It dropped from a random Bloodsail near Booty Bay (despite I know it could drop from any mob in the zone I find all these pirates around the bay the best targets as their respawn time and loot are more than acceptable). If you're still waiting to get yours... well, patience it's the key, and I know that's easy to tell. If you're losing your faith just think about it... in the process of getting the parrot I found the also rare Учебник: сильное противоядие and a Детеныш раззаши... without considering the tons of cloths and greens and extra rep! :D If you settle a limit of kills (or time for farming) per day it'll make things easier and more enjoyable!

ok so ya i now love myself. went out to STV for a couple minutes to help a friend. he needed me to kite the admiral off a boat, so he could turn in his quests for the hat. as i am doing so i end up killing a few guys and bam on the fourth i got the parrot. now this is RNG and the times i love RNG, but i am sorry for those of you who have killed thousands and still nothing, but keep trying, and even better dont grind for it, go killing them for something else and take this bird out of your mind, and hell you might be surprised. that is the value of the desire sensor radar, i believe its called. the game knows when you want something specific and keeps that item away from you! O_o keep your mind free of the parrot and your game may appreciate the lesson you have learned

Updated for patch 4.2 --As many have said.... since Cataclysm, the Hyacinth Macaw has become a zone drop in STV, many have found this on many different mobs. However, I have personally found a really good spot to farm for him.

In the Cape of Stranglethorn there's a spot in the middle of the map... To the west of the Explorer's League Digsite. If you are looking at your map the roads sort of make a circle(a poorly shaped circle lol-but you get the idea) in the middle of the map. Inside that circle there's a group of Bloodsail pirates that respawn at an extremely fast rate.

If you have some help you can kill these things literally non stop. One person can still kill non stop, you just wont get as many kills as fast. But you still wont have a problem. Start at the main camp, kill all of those bloodsail there, then take the narrow path through the mountains and kill those. By the time you get back to the main camp they will all be re-spawned.

Each kill awards you with 3 rep with Ratchet, Gadgetzan and Everlook. I read that Booty Bay stops receiving rep at Honored. I started my grind at 1,000 rep after honored, so I can no prove or disprove this.

Okay, first off I would like to repeat that I started my grind with all goblin reps at more or less 1,000 rep into honored. I am now 10,000/21,000 to exalted with the factions and I have just recieved my first Parrot Cage. Since I am not exalted I decided to keep killing these guys... just in case I happened to find another. Sure enough, not 5 minutes later I found a second one.

I've been trying to decide what to get my husband as a WoW Present for christmas. I guess I just found it :D

So guys, please do not give up your search. He can still drop and it'll take you ALOT of kills to get him. Or you could get it on the first try. This is surely one of the most rare pets in the game. I wish everyone goodluck! He's a beauty.

P.S: I would like to mention one last thing. I did this while in a group with my husband. I had him killing mobs in the mountains while I killed things in the camp. Things died really really fast and bodies were everywhere. I put the loot threshold on rare and had my toon "pass on loot". This way I would only ever see the bodies "Sparkle" for loot, if they had loot on them that was of blue or purple quality. The parrot does infact count for this. I was so scared that for whatever reason, it would drop but not sparkle on the body. It DOES sparkle, so you will know if you want to use a friend to help you. They can even be AFK, but you have to have "Pass on loot" checked. The other person will be able to roll, and you will not so you must be sure its a trustworthy friend and that they will pass on it.

I farmed this guy for 7hours yesterday and roughly 4hours today in all 11 hours of me farming has git me nothing but Jack. I got about 4greens and 1blue the entire time I been trying to fsrm this pet. I am enraged and hopefully out of the blue this thing will drop and I will be there to get it. This bird is really a great addition to any pet collection and will sell for a lot to the right buyer. These can sell for 6,000 to 15,000 if your lucky. I found the best place to farm these just south of Booty Bay. There is a small island with two boats docked at it. Kill everybody on both these boats and loot every single person. Once you do that head to the other island close by, where another boat is docked. Once you have cleared and looted all three, the enemies on the first boat will have spawned. I'd say 90% of these mobs drop this companion, and in a few hourse you can have your own Parrot Cage (Hyacinth Macaw). This method is also the best way I've found to farm rep with Booty Bay and the other Goblin factions, it gives about 15 rep per kill and will get you exalted in no time.

For ever so long, i have wanted this pet. But because of different things i have never farmed it for myself. And i refused to ever buy it. The prices on my low pop server were just crazy to say the least.
So, the other day(actually about a week ago) i decided that i was going to farm for several of the pets that i havent gotten yet. The crimson whelpling, emerald whelpling, and the captured firefly. these three and the macaw are the only ones that i had left to be able to get in game aside from the holiday event ones. So farming i did go. :) Several days of killing everything that moved in wetlands and i got my crimson baby. Moved on to the emerald, got it too, pretty quickly. Zangermarsh, here i come. Boom, got my firefly.
Then comes the long flight to STV. The dreaded farm for the macaw.
Bloodsail pirates be warned! I am on the hunt!
I farmed the pirates that are along the coast of booty bay, and the ships there as well. Making a circle, at level 85 the kills are fast and respawns are very good. By the time you have killed all the ones on the boats and back up the coast, the boats are full again. As a plus, you get Steamwheedle rep. Yay! So i am farming and farming. I recommend getting an addon like Rarity to keep track, it seems to help really to see those numbers tick away. At 2268 kills i get the hatchling, which i didnt have but thought i did. :P oh well, one more pet. So in for the long haul, i am killing before raid time, and there at magic number 2558 i get the Macaw. and at 2559 i get another hatchling. The best thing i can tell people, is that if you really want it, stick with it. happy hunting to all. :P Vanity pets are fun. And to those people that are like "Farming those are stupid, its all RNG." i say what the hell do you think it is when you get loot? Everything in the game is RNG.

On the beach in Northwest-Northern Stranglethorn, there's a little place called Bal'lal Ruins. There's only about 20 or so Trolls here, but here's the kicker;

The spawn rate is incredibly fast. I had mobs who were spawning on the exact same spot two or three times, right behind each other.

Got my Macaw in under two hours; still looking for the Hatchling. I was also able to get two green Tailoring patterns and the First Mate Hat (which is Cloth, and I'm a Hunter, so no Transmog for me. :( ).

Has anyone else noticed that when you have your Hyacinth Macaw out, and then mount your Mechano-Hog (or Mekgineer's Chopper), the bird tries to fly away from it?

As some of you may know, this particular parrot is an endangered species in real-life, partly due to mechanised agriculture, giving this little fellow a good reason to hold a grudge against mechanical devices, such as motorcycles!

Was questing in NSTV with my sister. Saw this drop, didn't realize how rare it was, so I learned it. I did't really use any companions until I got the (adorable) Щенок ворга from BRS, (and even now, that's the only one I still ever use). So when I Wowheaded this after I learned it, I was really disappointed to see how much it sells for on the AH. Now it's just sitting in my Companions tab, waiting for me to summon it... :<

Moral of the story: If you're never going to use it, just AH it. You will get a ton of gold out of it (especially if you found it while questing, and not just farming, because it will seem like a lot more gold at that level), and you can make someone that will actually use it happy :)

Today was a magic day. Today I felt it was THE day, THE day that this baby would finally drop for me. I had commited genocide among the bloodsail pirates without getting anything worthwhile out of it. So many have had to die to meet my innocent need of getting a very rare and hard to find parrot, but today, all that came to an end. Just when I decided to call it a day after feverishly grinding those pirates for hours, I had it drop for me. I couldn't believe it. I have killed around 10k for this seemingly unobtainable pet and suddenly there it was!

Of course, this info doesn't help people much, so I just want to say... don't give up. No matter how elusive this item seems to be, it will drop sooner or later.

I used to farm this thing on a regular basis and stopped, well the other morning I was doing some STV quests on my main for BB rep, and I ran into the ninja quest from BSB killed about 5-6 ninjas and the last dropped it...words of advice, rng hates farmers so take it from me don't farm pets with the expectation of getting it, you'll only get upset :P

Be very wary when you see people selling this pet in trade. There is a scam/trick which involves someone placing another pet cheap pet(I wont say which) in the trade window instead. As this other pet shares the same icon it's very easy to end up paying a lot of gold for something available at a vendor for less than 1g.

Someone tricked my bro in this way a few days ago but luckily and suprisingly a gm gave him his 4k back... I dunno if the scammer had the 4k gold removed from his account but I see him trying the same trick 2 days later.

Lol, so me and a friend were hunting, and had the quest to kill the bloodsail mobs... We did just a couple quests, and looted it. I had no idea of its rarity until coming here. Seeing people never get them and the price for one on my server is 30,000g I was shocked! Haha, I guess I got really lucky that day. I don't think we killed that many bloodsail at ALL.

So there I was, I got a referal from a friend two days ago, swiftly got myself to level 30 from the x3 exp. I was on my own leveling and this bastard dropped off a Raptor, didn't even realise how rare it was until I looked on here, that's awesome. I think I'll keep hold of him, make my collector friend very very jealous.

This was my third time farming this. The first time I ran circuits around the Bal'lal Ruins, clocking almost 600 kills before the drop. The second and third times I followed someones advice below and stuck with the Bloodsail Pirates just east of the Gurubashi Arena. Though my kill count was considerably higher, (close to triple,) the respawn rate and lack of needless running made this far less painful, with the added bonus of Everlook, Gadget and Ratchet rep. The main group of Pirates, if single targeted cleanly will respawn instantly up to a total of 25, (kill three, two more spawn, kill those two, two more, etc.) I was also lucky enough to drop Шляпа первого помощника and enough cloth to ruin the AH economy for some time...

So I recommend the Bloodsail Pirates without a doubt...

I just had one drop from a Jungle Stalker in Northern Stranglethorn. The drop rates have definitely increased, but the price is still pretty good; several thousand gold, on my server at least.

I wanted to share my story, just so you all know how crazy the RNG can be.

I started farming pets for the 150 pet achievement. Feeling confident after getting the emerald whelpling, I headed to Stranglethorn to get started on the Razzashi Hatchling and the macaw. I nestled in at the campfire camp, killing at an insane rate. Right at 3k, I got the hatchling. Then at 4k, I got the First Mate's Hat. At 5400, I got another hat. At 5700, I received a third hat, and at 6400 I got my second hatchling. I'm over 7k now, wish my luck, though the small fortune I'm amassing might make the grind worth it.

edit: At 12289, a fourth (yes fourth) First Mate Hat dropped. Still looking for the macaw...

When I recently started collecting a lot of rare pets (mostly to get the Celestial Dragon pet), I started hunting for all of the world drop rare pets and found a few of them so far. A close guild member and good friend of mine had already achieved Littlest Pet Shop, so she informed me of the Rarity add-on (on Curse) to make farming more interesting, and she told me her sordid tale of killing 10,000+ pirates for this pet.

To say the least, I really wasn't looking forward to farming it and considered not bothering, and it commanded high prices on the AH-- highest I saw was 25k. It was up there for some time, so they kept lowering the price, but I don't think anyone ended up buying it.

I recently decided to do Insane in the Membrane, since I was already revered with all of the Goblin factions and exalted with Darkmoon Faire, so she showed me a great spot to farm for rep, the Hyacinth Macaw, and the Razzashi Hatchling all at once, between the two splitting paths just south of Gurubashi Arena. They spawn on a small path there, and respawn VERY fast, so it worked really well. I was kind of excited to have some actual work to do in WoW, since there's been nothing going on for a while.

So I started farming and got hundreds of kills the first night I did it and got a lot of rep and cloth to sell in the process, so it was a good way to make some gold as well as get rep up and farm for two pets that I didn't have. Today I decided to do a little more farming before I went to work on some projects.

This pet dropped on my 941st kill. I hadn't even gotten past 1000. When it actually dropped, I was stunned speechless, and I literally couldn't believe it. I thought "no way, that can't have happened. A joke was just played on me, haha, funny." There were pets that are less rare than this that took me more kills, and I have to honestly say I actually feel guilty about it. But since I still don't have the Razzashi Hatchling yet, or the Goblin factions at exalted, I'm still going to work in this area, and my grinding is far from over, so I don't feel too bad.

Either way, I'm pleased to have this pretty bird in my collection, and I wish and hope that other farmers have the same luck as me. Just don't give up. That's the best thing you can tell yourself.

I was farming up bloodsail rep in booty bay via the doublerum quest, and accidentally looted one of the Brashtide Raiders and this guy drops, seriously after only looting one (thousands killed, but only 1 looted), i think my luck is used up for the rest of the year.

Was doing quests in Cape of Stranglethorn for the loremaster achievement and after about 10 kills I got it from a monkey from the first quest I was doing. Few days ago I was reading about this pet and I was like "Dang, I'll have to stay here for a while". Now I'm surprised and happy :3

got this little guy today while farming the razzashi raptor while waiting for the Gurubashi event to start. I was killing the bloodsail losers just south of the arena (they spawn within seconds of dying) and this dropped after the 236th kill. Good luck! *kiss* c('.'c)

After reading the ungodly low drop rate, I was a bit discouraged but I was determined to be a statistic on this website. So I set out for stranglethorn and decided to kill Zanzil Zombies for lack of better things to do and not expecting to walk away from the experience with anything. After one kill it dropped. I think my computer spontaneously combusted after that.

When my main was lvl 45, I took a very scenic ride from Stormwind to Booty Bay... Right near the entrance to BB, I saw a pirate. So I was like... "I'm gonna explode that pirate just because I've never killed a pirate..."

That pirate dropped the Hyacinth Macaw.

I had to come to Wowhead to find out just what the hell I had just gotten.. well, I had to find out how rare it was and how much gold I could sell it for.. Reading the comments here (this was during the WOTLK expac) I came to realize how incredibly lucky I was to get this to drop off the very first pirate I killed. I cashed that sucker in, sold it to a pet collector on my realm (Drak'Tharon US) for 6,000g. Seemed like a great deal for me at the time because my flight training was now funded.

From then on, I have collected pets... I've farmed and farmed and farmed pirates for the hyacinth... when Cata hit, I farmed that whole zone. I have at least 10,000 kills in the cape of stranglethorn since that first pirate...

TL/DR; I should have learned the damn pet, as I will probably never see it drop again.

I was in Stormwind one day a couple of years ago and noticed people in trade talking about Hyacinth Macaw. I vaguely recalled that, and lazily checked my companions only to notice I had it (had already bound it) and never even realised it's rarity. It was my first toon that I leveled, and I honestly don't even recall it dropping or opening it. I certainly didn't farm it, so I must have just got very lucky :) I didn't even use it all that time - figuring it was just a weird 'uncool' bird. Now I equip it all the time - it's awesome when in cat form - little blue friend alongside blue cat.

It took me an hour and 20 minutes to farm it in STV. Killed pirates for the 1st hour, then moved on to the rest of the STV mobs. Got it in 20 min at loc 53:32 from a Zanzil Mindslave.

I have dealt in these almost since the beginning of my wow life. Blizz needs to fix the right click activate, LITERALLY 5 of my toons have it because of me accidentally right clicking when list auction tab wasn't open and browse was. Luckily I will get the cages for resale with MoP. but still, something should be done, I know I am not alone.

Wow I really didn't know this pet's rare until I saw someone selling it for over 14k on the Trade channel. I was doing quests in Northern Stranglehorn and I got this as a drop by killing a Skullsplitter Troll... O_O

I finally found this beauty after shooting, stabbing, and burning about 12,000 pirates to death. Needless to say, they are displeased with me. Fortunately they don't realize that my alter-ego Bloodsail Admiral Death Knight is affiliated with my Hunter (the toon I farmed on).

Anyway, I farmed the (49,38) pirate camp in STV (just south of Gurubashi Arena and the zombies). Most of the time I was solo-farming around 600 mobs an hour, though when a Horde mage showed up for the last 2k I averaged about 1,000 mobs an hour instead (I sat in the ravine and she at the campsite). Definetely faster to do this with a buddy, but if you're alone it's not too much slower. This area is much easier to farm than the beach or the boats due to the forced spawn of new pirates once less than 3 are up.

During this time I had about a million greens, a bucketful of blues, and two Razzashi Hatchlings drop before reaching my ultimate goal of finding the elusive Hyacinth Macaw. I was so very excited when rarity popped up and I saw the purple name appear on my screen!

Keep the cloth the pirates drop, because I made a few thousand gold off the amount that dropped from 12k pirates (which was a lot, I can assure you). If you're looking to farm cloth at the same time, they mainly drop Silk Cloth and about 1/3 as much Wool Cloth. A few pieces of Mageweave Cloth drop here and there, but not enough to be worth farming the pirates for.

As of patch 5.0.4, this pet's drop rate has increased a great deal. I was out questing on a low-level alt in Northern Stranglethorn Vale and ended up with two of them. I thought I already had it on my pet list so I sold them. Realizing after they sold that I didn't actually have the pet, I took my main out and farmed up another one out of the Bloodscalps within an hour.

So I transfer my DK to a different realm, Trying to level fishing and just killing those that get in my way. Would ya know on my 4th mob one drops. I'm playing Hellfire-Alliance, my brother looted this when we were leveling our monks in Stranglethorn, he gave it to me because he doesn't play that seriously and doesn't need the gold.

I immediatly went to the AH to check the prices, it was at 17k, it has dropped continuesly since then, today (2012-10-08) it's at 7.7k

So i advertised in trade, got a guy wanting to buy it, he offered me 5.5k and i took it.

I wanna know if i just got ripped off completely, or if the price of this pet has gone down immensely since MoP release?

This just dropped for me off of a Murkgill Murloc in STV, i killed about 6 of them and nearly had a heartattack when I saw purple and the icon, so freaking happy and mind-blown right now!

I'm not sure if it is a bug on the spawn rate or not, however I've been farming the Bloodsail mobs on the hill camp just south of the Gurubashi Arena and they seem to endlessly spawn. I can kill probably 10-15 at the camp, then run down the little path to the south and kill another 6-10 and go ack to the camp and repeat.

As a mage I'm just spamming Arcane Explosion and the mobs a lot of times have respawned before my timer is up to cast it again.

So if people are looking for a spot to farm Cartel Rep and try for the pet, this may be a good spot for you (assuming it's the same spawn time on other servers).

In just over an hour, I've managed to accumulate 20 stacks of Silk and 6 Stacks of Wool as well. I've been destroying the Stormwind Brie and Volatile Rum and green drops.

i managed to get it after killing just two kurzen in stv. I must admit I have been lucky on my account, 5 epics at level 55 on character, and then I start a new character and bang I get this. Mind you in all the time I have played wow since vanilla, I've been really unlucky finding epic items. I guess now after all that time, it's about time xD

Most people never see this pet. Some farm it for hours on end and end up giving up on ever seeing it. A few people farm for hours, days, or even weeks to finally get it and are so happy they put in the time and effort, attesting it was worth every minute. But not me. I had heard of it but I had never been to farm it. I didn't even know where it dropped. But while I was leveling my mage in Northern Stranglethorn Vale, it dropped. I nearly fell out of my seat when I saw it, but there it was. I was shaking. It was worth over 30,000 gold on my server at the time and I had no clue what to do with it. I ultimately decided to give it to my guild master, who is a huge pet collector and didn't have one. I felt very generous and I went on with my life, happy with my decision. About 3 months later, near the end of Cataclysm, I was leveling my rogue through the same area and I was doing the same quests as my mage was. By a stroke of stupid insane luck, it dropped again. I kept it for myself and I felt like the luckiest person in the world for it. Completely true story. I couldn't make this up.

Just dropped by the Black Market and saw this being sold by "Breanni" (go figure). It's down to "long" on the duration for he auction and price is pretty low at just over 5k. I've seen lots of pets on the BM starting at 10k so wanted to see what this was. May have to sink some coin into this and do some eBay sniping ;)

3 days ago i decided to come back to wow, so i made a trial account.
On day 1, i leveled to 15.
On day 2, i got to level 20 so i decided to go to ashenvale and quest to 25.
On day 3, i logged in a level 25, i got the quest to see borat in org, who told me to go to
northern stranglethorn so i did, i was questing there, i had just dinged 26 and i looted one of these off a quest mob,
if anyone can tell me a good price to sell it for i'd appreciate it :)

Hey guys, I just got this drop from Ephram "Midriff" Moonfall randomly. I did not even know that this companion existed, and yet, I got it. I'm pretty sure I haven't killed over 5k pirates, so I'm pretty lucky. ^_^ I was wondering if I should sell it or keep it. My server is Garona, and it goes for about 10k gold in the AH. So.. can you guys give me some enlightenment? Thanks in advance! :)

Just got it 17th of september 2013. Calculating by the reputation I've gained, it took about 4,5-5 thousand kills. I grinded pirates exclusively. At first I would do rounds of 3 ships - beach - north of Booty Bay - south of Hardwrench Hideaway - the 49/39 spawn. Then I did some more reading and it seemed very inefficient in comparison to just staying at 49/39. It is still entirely true that when there are less than 3~ pirates spawned it triggers more to spawn. The grind took me about 6 to 7 hours. I consider myself quite lucky. During the process I've found one admiral's hat and one BoE blue, no epics. I imagine that if you have two people grinding, where one stays at the big spawn AoEing continuously and the other kills the remaining pirates in the narrow pathway triggering the spawn, you could reach that amount of kills in about 2 hours.

Grabbed this off the BMAH for 4k - sadly the pet itself on a busy server is actually selling for less on the regular AH.
*However*
Thanks to account-wide pets, this can be learned and then caged by another toon on any server to get the most bang for your buck if you're planning on selling it.

Ran through STV to get a boat to ratchet, thought I may aswell work on my skinning while I run through. So my first kill was a gator spawned by the river south of Grom'Gol, and he dropped this beauty. I almost summoned it, before checking out Wowhead and realising the rarity of the mccaw! I just won and learned this pet from the Black Market Auction House.I scooped it right out of the mailbox after keeping Madam Goya company for about 7 hours and then got hit by a truck in the face...when you learn this epic pet it becomes simply uncommon. That is a damn shame considering it is the only one of it's kind. I was pretty disappointed. If this is something you may have been expecting as well heads up it changes to a blue. :(

I created a new toon and came leveling in STV. Being late at night, I was very unaware of a lot of things and was just doing the usual quick grind through areas to level up. The next day I went to clear out my bags for more leveling and noticed a purple item in my bags. I had no idea that I had picked up this epic pet while leveling the night before, nor did I even know this pet existed or was so hard to get.
I sold the pet in trade for a nice amount and came out a lot richer

Haven't played in awhile, decided to do a random raid to break up the honor grind. Did 1 boss and got the Parrot Cage in a satchel. Didn't even know what it was until I started getting "you lucky bastard" whispers. Decided to check out AH (11k+) and wowhead.

Doesn't say on Wowhead, but it drops from Ner'zhul in Shadowmoon Burial Grounds. Saw it myself happen to one in our party.

Grinding for this parrot is a gamble - if it drops you've just earned your retirement (in WoW) if not, you've spent in stranglethorn vale much much more time than needed and are probably crazy about now. Or a pirate.

I farmed for this pet back in the LK expansion, so I'm not sure if anything has changed.
I placed myself on Wild Shore, turned Netflix on, picked a movie, and rotated between the Bloodsail pirate ships and the beach, aoe-ing mobs of pirates. Having Levitate or Path of Frost helps greatly when traveling between ships.
I think after a movie and a half it dropped.
And then I threw a party in Dalaran with all the rum I had looted.

Or you could just buy it on the AH...

I think the ships are still there.

Also the Netflix technique applies to any other mindless farming as well. Good luck! Determination pays off and don't let anyone discourage you. If you want it, you will get it.

I spent, ridiculous time, farming mobs in hopes to get this, I believe I spent a good six hours, slaying pirates...I went away empty handed. I feel that this may be one pet i be willing to pay the money they are asking on the AH. Approx 9/10 k

Well I did not go away totally empty handed, along with reputation with various factions going up from friendly to almost revered I got the hatching

So I had reached honored with the Bloodsail Buccaneers for progress towards the ''Insane in the Membrane'' achievement.

Immediately after reaching honored with them, I proceeded to kill Bloodsail mobs in Stranglethorn (to get my rep with the other factions back up from hated...) when I came across this.

Who'd have thought something so insane could happen when working for an achievement linked to the insane?

Spent the better part of a week killing around 4000 Skullsplitter trolls at Zul'mamwe, and after only the 10th kill today the Macaw dropped off Ana'thek the Cruel!

After reading the tales of days and days camping, I couldn't resist...

So I'm very near completion on the 'Loremaster' meta achievement and had just three Eastern Kingdom zones left to finish. I was mopping up quests from Bounty Bay and got sent to kill some Bloodsail pirates.

The parrot dropped on my seventh kill. Like, after killing seven pirates.

Now I know it can drop from any mob in STV now, but as a veteran player, there was a certain satisfaction from getting it from a pirate.

Now, to keep or to sell?

Got my 2nd parrot today inside one week of farming. I've killed about 7500 mobs now, and I have 2 epic parrots, 5 of those Razzashi Hatchlings, about 40 rares, and over 200 Wildvine.

So I decided to go for this on a quiet weekend afternoon just for the $%^& of it cuz i knew it wouldnt drop and since im not a farmer type id give up in an hour. I arrived on the pirate boat dismounted and killed 7 mobs and it dropped. My girlfriend is sitting next ti me telling me not to post this cuz people would hate me but im not trying to be a !@#$%^ i want this to be incentive because sometimes RNgesus smiles upon you.

Okay guys, This is gonna sound very crazy.

So I make a level 19 feral twink going very nicely good damage, what can go wrong? So I head over to STV for some world pvp, I KILL ONE pirate and guess what? No i didn't drop... SIKE yes it actually dropped xD, sold it on the AH for 35k can someone tell me how lucky I am?

Was out today, questing for Хранитель мудрости, awaiting the Legion release, and avoiding the invasions.
Picked this guy up off a Младший элементаль воды, on The Savage Coast, 20.0, 40.0
Nice little boost to the collection, but since these are quest mobs on this coast, they might have a forced respawn?
Could be a good farm spot, if you want this guy.

Obtained this item by killing the Bloodscalp mobs in Northern Stranglethorn. It took me less than an hour of farming this time but that was just extreme luck. It wasn't my first attempt at farming this item.

I enjoy collecting battle pets and, after looking at this pet here and on warcraftpets.com, had resigned myself to probably never having one. Today, while in Coldridge Valley helping out a guildmate, I looked in my bags and there it was! I'd just come from helping another guildmate who was questing in Northern Stranglethorn and don't know what quarry dropped it, but we were questing in northern Northern Stranglethorn - the initial quests that are handed out in the Rebel camp, so it was somewhere in the area of Kurzen's Compound. When I think of the hours I've spent farming various pets, most without success, then I get the Hyacinth without even realizing it at the time, I get a good laugh! Keep the faith, folks, it is possible.

This pet dropped for me the other day.
I highly recommend having several goals, while grinding for pets, or other items with this low drop rate.
I looted mine from a mob in Venture Co. Base Camp; I still have a long grind ahead of me, with rebuilding Steamwheedle reputation. Then as the pet dropped, and I still had that slaughter of Venture Co. going on, I've taken the opportunity to level up the Macaw, when I run into a battle pet on my sweep of the camp. -It make the grind less tedious.

I'm a light hearted pet collector (meaning: if I've the chance I'll get the pet, if not... well, sh*t happens!) and farming doesn't scare me.
I've farmed for this beauty (c'mon, look at its colours! Amazing!) for three days, honestly I don't recall how many mobs I've slaughtered.
I'll share my experience in order to help getting yours.
Preparation!
Probably the least required advices of all but a quick remind could help a little!
First of all, take some times to read all the useful comments here!
Choose a charachter you love to play, preferably with water walking\potion of water walking\speed boost. My choice was my arcane mage. Arcane barrage boosted my speed plus two blinks shortened the distances!
Auto loot is your friend, saving here and there some time... and you have always a sneak peak of what you're looting, you would know when celebrate!
Keep your bags empty... Use mount to sell junk or if you'll farm at my favorite spot, remember that there's an easy npc where to sell (or booty bay right around the corner where you could store greenies and make auctions).
My personal golden rule: leave levelling players alone, horde or alliance doesn't matter! We're gamers! We're farming and they're questing, at least let's trying to not ruin their experience... It should be fun for everyone and insta killing their quest npc for hours before their eyes... well, hello darkness my old friend!
Location!
I've tried with trolls (skullspitter, seen in several video... good place but not the best), killing pirates\nagas\basilisk and the "infamous insta respawn pirates place" (awful).
None of them worked for me. Trolls drop first mate hat which is nice but my farm tour seemed to be more dispersive... moreover, greens dropped less frequently compairing to greys and to other spots.
I don't know if I was unlucky or the pirates didn't like my pretty mage but insta respawn pirate place was absolutely not instant anymore, instead the place took most time to get the mobs back.
I personally suggest to farm at near 40,82 at cape of stranglethorn vale.
My farm trip began at the camp at 40,82 then 44,79 then again the three ships in the seas (then repeat ad libitum).
Respawn is pretty fast all over the place, the pirates give reputation (small account but every bits count!) and a lot of cloth (I've managed to collect 2000+ silk cloth, 400+ wool cloth and 100+ mageweave cloth).
Big plus of this locat1on: coward Cosby green vendor (Трусишка Кросби/cowardly-crosby sells even Выкройка: адмиральская шляпа/pattern-admirals-hat as rare spawn) where you could sell right away greenies and greys that you don't requires (and the countless supply of rum... they have taken so much space in my bag)
I've collected (excluding the macaw) at least 4 blues, 50+ greens and several recipes (no epic but I wasn't there for that!) and... A razzashi hatchling (http://wow.zamimg.com/uploads/screenshots/normal/143710-razzashi-hatchling.jpg totally unexpected)!
Timing!
Farm 2-3 h at time, don't overstressed yourself... there's no sense to overburden yourself for a pretty pet, you should have at least a little fun! My rythm was 4\5 h each day (divided between morning and evening... holiday time!)
In the end I've managed to snatch 2 differents macaw (one for me, one for my beloved), I've added a screenshot as proof ^-^

TL;DR: Pre patch 7.3.5: farmed 2 different macaw in cape of Stranglethorn vale, my favorite spot was near 40,82. Remember to not overstressed yourself, have Fun!

Stranglethorn Vale is one of my most favorite zones in WoW, but right now I've really had enough of it. O_o

By the way, if you're farming this pet right now, don't get disencouraged by that number.
Statistically, a whopping 92,77% of all people trying will get that pet before I did.
You probably won't be as unlucky as I was, so don't give up!

Oh, and if you're still not sure where you want to farm the hyacinth macaw, here are two farming routes, that I can recommend:

1. Instant Pirates Respawn:
There's a camp of 7 pirates around Трусишка Кросби in the south of Cape of Stranglethorn.
Occasionally, these guys respawn so fast that after killing the 7th pirate the first ones have already respawned again.
As you don't have to fly from place to place and you are able to constantly keep killing mobs, this is probably the fastest way to obtain the pet.
However, that's only the case as long as the respawn rate remains that high which, I guess, depends on the amount of other people in your phase.
And cause this amount varies greatly, you probably won't be able to farm there forever.
Therefore, I would suggest checking the respawn rate of the pirates in the camp from time to time, and if it's not high enough, just farm the ships and other camps around it.

2. Transmog Route:
With the 7.3.5 changes there a lot of previously unobtainable transmogs items, which are now able to drop again in some places.
And fortunately, Northern Stranglethorn is one of these places, which means that you can also earn a good amount of money while farming your parrot.
For example, just in the last two days in Northern Stranglethorn (with approx. 2 hours of farming each day) I received:
2x Шлем Дробителей Черепов, 1x Коргская бита, 2x Прессованное войлочное одеяние, 2x Кольцо вуду, 2x Копье охоты за головами, 1x Кишкодер and 1x Гоблинская боевая лопата.
I don't know if that was pure luck or if the drop rates of these items are relatively high, but all of them should still sell for a good price.
Anyways, for getting one of these transmogs, you should focus on killing trolls like in this video and also some ogres and goblins in the zone.
If you want to know what old items there are in Northern Stranglethorn and from which mobs they drop exactly, I can recommend you the addon All The Things which has a legacy tab for that.

I have been playing for 10 years, since 2008. I have almost 3,000 hours on my main alone. I have over 500 pets and counting.

Got my girlfriend to start playing this year, for the first time. 42 hours into her first ever character:

"Oh, this guy dropped something."

"Eh, what?"

"Says Hyacinth Macaw? Something about a parrot cage?"

"WHAT?"

I'm happy for her, but I will not lie, I'm a bit jealous.

As of today (3/12/2019), which is the release of patch 8.1.5, the Hyacinth Macaw item is no longer showing as epic (purple) quality in game. He has been updated to be superior (blue) instead. He is still blue when he is learned.

Patch Day, 6/25/19. Just after midnight 6/26/19 I landed this beauty for my birthday! From a Stranglethorn Tiger. I was supposed to be playing end game to get BfA pathfinder two, but they don't call me master procrastinator for nothing. So of COURSE I was doing Nesingwary quests that I apparently never got around to back in the day on this particular toon.

Back when we still had to do quest chains for the mounts, my Paladin got this bird. I ran out of bag space, and tossed it. A couple of years ago, I read that this was a really rare bird. I had it, and I destroyed it. I bout went into shock when it dropped. I most assuredly will not be selling Hyacinth! Best WoW birthday present EVER.

EIGHT YEARS! Eight years of endless farming. Somtimes for experience, sometimes for rep, sometimes for a nice transmog. I already give up on getting this. And now I'v got nearly in a row the SeaTurtle (two weeks before) The Jewel Crafted Fishing pole (a week ago) Feet of the Lynx (yesterday) and now this. Nearly instatly as I start to farming Venture Co. gomblins? Lucky... year?

Word of advice. When u farming for the SWC rep u can farm for this on the fly.

So I’m confused by this: is the parrot cage the same as the Hyacinth Macaw battle pet? They seem to be the same, but the battle pet goes for considerably cheaper on the AH. I’ve looked it up everywhere I can think of and can’t find a straight answer. Anyone know?
