To unlock battle pets from Protoform Synthesis you have to complete the quest Protoform Synthesis to get Protoform Synthesis (Battle Pet).

Schematic: Prototickles is a protoform synthesis battle pet.
To unlock protoform crafting research Sopranian Understanding and complete Protoform Synthesis quest.

Schematic can be found in Dimensional Falls subzone. First, travel to 53.60 75.38 and stand at the edge. You will see some stone platform and pillars below.
Jump down onto the platform and then jump to the next pillar, there is a tree's crown. Carefully step close the the edge of pillar, turn the camera and the check the tree.
The schematic is hang among the leaves on a metal chain.

After bringing the schematic to Protoform Repository you will learn how to create Prototickles battle pet.

To get Prototickles you need to find Schematic: Prototickles in Zereth Mortis and bring it to the Synthesis Forge*, then collect reagents for the craft

How to get Schematic:

Resources required to craft (all of them are zone related):
450xGenesis Mote - drops all over the Zereth Mortis
Glimmer of Discovery - drops from proto worms
Aurelid Lattice - Can buy on AH or farm from specific mobs (check dropped by section)

* Synthesis Forge Prerequisites to be able to see a schematic & to turn it in & craft the Pet:
Complete 3 parts of the main campaign in the Secrets of the First Ones Forming an Understanding
Complete Cypher Console upgrade Aealic Understanding => Dealic Understanding (to craft pets) & Sopranian Understanding (to craft mounts)
Complete Protoform Synthesis quest to craft pets / Finding Tahli questchain & After daily reset The Lost Component & A New Architect to craft mounts
