if you do not find Magni at the location indicated on the map, just a large pile of crystals, you will need to head to the path in from Un'Goro in the NE part of the zone and have the phase set to the current time.

For this quest you need to fly to the Silithus and find Magni Bronzebeard.
The easiest option is to use portal to Uldum and then fly with regular mount
Portal to Uldum is to the north-east of the Valley of Wisdom title on the map
/way Orgrimmar 48.86 38.52 Portal to Uldum

Magni is to the west of the huge blade in the middle of the zone.

PS If you can't find Magni and don't see the blade, you are probably in a wrong phase.
Silithus has past and current versions and you can switch between them near the north-east road to the Un'goro Crater

Do you need to be in orgrimmar in order to get this quest? Is it going to pop in your quest log no matter where you are in the world?

The Warchief Awaits popped up after first login with a level 110 toon one week after prepatch for BfA.
If you completed the story with one character (of the same faction), you can talk to Sylvanas "I have heard this tale before" to skip the chain after accepting The Warchief Commands (step 2). You'll get teleported to the south of Darkshore with access to World Quests.
You will need to complete the previous chapters to unlock the following ones (chapter 1, The Battle for Lordaeron (chapter 3, step 2) and The Stormwind Extraction (chapter 4, step 6) can be skipped after completing it once).

Chapter 1 (unlocked 07/24/2018):

The Warchief Awaits - meet Lady Sylvanas Windrunner in Undercity (use the middle doorway in the Apothecarium to reach her -> /way Undercity 53.22 62.73 Entrance). Don't use the teleporter from Silvermoon to go to Uc, this might kill you
The Warchief Commands - travel to Crossroads and meet High Overlord Saurfang - you can skip this step and the rest of this chapter, if you completed it on an other character before
A Quick Diversion - travel to Astranaar in Ashenvale and meet Lorash
Everybody Has a Price - dismount and use your extrabutton to mark the guards
A Timely Arrival - meet Lady Sylvanas Windrunner
Zoram'gar Outpost - fly to Zoram'gar Outpost and speak to the mentioned NPC. Return to Astranaar
On The Prowl - turn in at the border between Ashenvale and Darkshore
Into the Woods - kill 6 enemies
Ripe for the Picking - return to Zoram'gar Outpost
A Quick Flyover - speak to Zarvik Blastwix and kill wisps and trees
An Unstoppable Force - return to the border to Darkshore, pass the wall and wait for Sylvanas. Reload, if she doesn't appear for you
A Glaive Misunderstanding - burn glaives with your Everburning Torch
Clearing Them Out - kill 7 elfs
Blurred Vision - kill 8 owls and 10 furbolgs
The Trees Have Ears - kill Burning Ancient (cinematic after turn in)

After that 4 World Quests in Darkshore popped up.

It took around 40 minutes.

Chapter 2 (unlocked on 07/31/2018):

Saurfang Returns - find Saurfang (I got this quest after entering Darkshore)
No Small Mercy - click 8 citizens
Seaside Rendezvous - kill 2 named NPC (Caranne Briarbow and Ariel Stagguard)
Driving Them Out - kill 15 defenders
Killer Queen - fly to the marked area, find Saurfang, watch roleplay and meet Sylvanas at the beach (45.52, 18.26). Click her dialogue (cinematic)

It took around 11 minutes, starting at Darkshore's south & without cinematic.

You will gain War-Torn Reins of the Undercity Plaguebat (teaches Undercity Plaguebat) at the end (reward from Killer Queen) and also get Teldrassil Hippogryph (Smoldering Reins of the Teldrassil Hippogryph) for the other faction at the same time. So you only need to complete the quest chain on one faction to get both mounts, but they are bound to their faction.

Chapter 3 (unlocked on 08/07/2018):

Battle for Azeroth: Hour of Reckoning - meet High Overlord Saurfang (popped up after login)
The Battle for Lordaeron - speak to Isabella on the left side, click the dialoge to start the scenario (20 man)- you can skip this scenario, if you completed it on an other character before
- kill enemies to fill the bar
- follow Saurfang and help him to go to the middle of Undercity
- click the dialogue of Uc's citizens to fill the bar
- use Portal to Lordaeron below the bank
- follow Saurfang and kill all enemies in front of Undercity (3 waves) (cinematic when done)
- speak to a Sludge Guard to get Blight Canister. Click Wounded Horde Soldier to fill the bar (cinematic)
- follow Nathanos Blightcaller
- fight against the Alliance (cinematic)
- follow Nathanos Blightcaller again
- wait for her and follow Lady Sylvanas Windrunner (cinematic). You'll get transported to Og after that

It took ca. 27 minutes, starting in Og at Saurfang (ca. 21 without cinematics)

Chapter 4 (unlocked on BfA Release):

A Dying World - travel to Silithus and meet Magni (popped up after login). Speak to Zidormi, if you changed the phasing in Silithus
The Heart of Azeroth - follow Magni to the translocator and click the console's dialogue (cinematic). Speak to Magni
You will get Heart of Azeroth and Have a Heart
Infusing the Heart - use your extrabutton Heart of Azeroth at the azerite ores to fill the bar, go to the middle and click it again
The Speaker's Imperative - go to Orgrimmar (use the transporter behind Magni) and meet Nathanos Blightcaller
Battle for Azeroth: Mission Statement - enter Grommash Hold (cinematic) and meet your team in the inn
The Stormwind Extraction - click Blightcaller's Easy Death on the table and go to the wall. Click Skyhorn Eagle, it will transport you to the solo scenario (you can skip this scenario, if you completed the chapter on an other character before and continue with step 7):
- destroy the two padlocks and enter Stormwind's sewer
- go to the marked area and meet Rokhan
- click the door, speak to High Overlord Saurfang (wait for his dialogue is complete before you open the next door. Might bug otherwise)
- go to the mark on the other side, click the door to free the Zandalaris. Follow and defend your team on the way to the northeastern part of the dungeon. Click Stormwind Sewer Access
- speak to Rokhan and follow him. Speak to him again after you jumped into the water, follow again
- kill attackers and follow your team and speak to Nathanos Blightcaller. Follow again
- destroy Icy Barrier
- kill enemies on your way to the nothern dock. Enter your ship and speak to Princess Talanji (cinematic)
Welcome to Zuldazar - follow Princess Talanji
Rastakhan - click Enforcer's Pterrordax, it will transport you to the princess. Talk to her (cinematic)
Speaker of the Horde - speak to Zolani and follow her. Use the elevator and click Horde Banner at the balcony
Re-enter the building and visit the tree chambers. Turn in at the other room at the floor
To Matters at Hand - meet the princess
We Need Each Other cinematic. You get Welcome to Zandalar after turning in
Quest line done - now you can chose your preferred quest area at the map on the table

It took ca. 55 minutes (ca. 50 without cinematics)

There are portals to capitals after completion: Inside of the pyramide at the bottom /way 52.83 71.0 Entrance to portals for Silvermoon City, Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff
Portal in Orgrimmar to Zuldazar in the Cleft of Shadows near the portal to Dalaran.

If you find yourself with a big crystal in your way, hearth back to Org and take the portal to Uldum, it will set the zone to the proper phase needed to find Magni.

I didn't know where the portal was so I just used the Caverns of Time portal under Dalaran and flew from there...

This quest has autostart, addons might interfere with it though. I suggest to deactivate all addons and relog in Orgrimmar.

If you completed Battle for Azeroth: Hour of Reckoning and The Battle for Lordaeron but you don't see A Dying World go to Stormwind and relog.

If you can't see the sword in the middle of the desert (it's soaring up in to the sky and covers like half the desert), then you might be phased in the old Silithus timeline,

Simply visit Zidormi at the entrance of Silithus and talk to her (speech bubble on map). She will bring you to the current timeline and update your phasing to the present.

Take the Uldum portal from the Cataclysm portals in the Western Earthshrine in Orgrimmar. You will need to time travel to complete this quest, so head north to Zidormi in northeast Silithus, indicated by a chat bubble on your map. She will bring you to the present which will complete the criteria for this quest. Now just travel west to turn it in.

The next quest was the Heart of Azeroth which mostly consisted of watching cinematics. Upon completion, you will receive the Heart of Azeroth amulet and the Have a Heart achievement.

you have a choice here. you can either talk to Zidormi in Ramkahen, fly to Valor's Rest in Silly Fuss, talk to Zidormi again and then fly to Magni
or you can fly straight to Magni from Uldum and get one shotted by Worms From Beyond because Blizzard are sadists
either way, the journey takes longer than it should

As of 9.0.1 (also called pre-patch), this quest is not given as an introduction to BFA anymore. It is given at level 50 though.

On 9.0.1 (pre-patch), if you leveled with chromie in BFA, you won't get the quest on lvl 50, but you can get it from Earthen Guardian, just outside The Great Seal in Dazar'Alor

We all know about the way to toggle map phases based on time lines / expansions but on this occasion Zidormi is located way to the north. Great if you are on foot walking up from Un'Goro Crater. Unlikely, lol.

Better is Rhonormu at (33.34,80.70) in the far south on the Silithus map, regardless of the time phase.

From your capital, grab the Uldum portal to Ramkahen.
Then fly up to the Oasis of Vir'sar or use the flight point to there.
Now hop over the border to the deep south of Silithus, to the entrance of Ahn'Qiraj.
Do a "/tar Rho" in chat, without the quotes as Rhonormu can be difficult to find the first time.

Swap time phases to your heart's content!

Just for fun, gonna comment on a few pages regarding the Heart of Azeroth.
In Shadowlands, you cannot obtain the Heart prior to level 50. After which you can obtain a quest from the Earthen Guardian.
(Earthen Guardian for Alliance)
(Earthen Guardian for Horde)
And confirmed my suspicions about not being able to do "A Dying World" prior to level 50 with a support article:

Notes for posterity...

During the Shadowlands pre-patch, one could obtain the Heart of Azeroth below level 40 by trading any piece of Azerite armor from one high-level party member to another (even if you couldn't equip it, or the armor was of the wrong type). The low-level character relogged, and A Dying World would be granted (which still occurs as of 9.1.5)!

However.

You cannot obtain the follow-up to this quest (The Heart of Azeroth) until level 40 as of Shadowlands release, making this method no longer possible. Any existing Hearts of Azeroth in low-level player inventories were given a level requirement, and equipped ones ceased to function. Azerite Armor was shortly patched afterwards, though for the duration of the pre-patch Azerite Traits were active on these lower level characters.

Artifact Power was possible to obtain through all of the "normal" sources a leveling character could encounter - treasure chests, rares, quest rewards, and Island Expeditions! This, in theory, makes it possible to complete Azerite-related achievements on characters who had obtained the necklace, despite being unable to equip them.

If you are a NEW subscriber, playing a low level character:

1. You are being forced to play the Battle for Azeroth (BfA) expansion, because that is the only way Blizz can get anyone to play it. It is most people's least enjoyable expansion.

So ha ha, the joke's on you!

2. On your zone map you will see a highlighted quest location for "A Dying World". If you are here, you've probably spent about an hour looking for the quest giver, and haven't found him. That's because he isn't there! The marker points to nothing!

3. The questline for the "Heart of Azeroth" is an interesting and important part of BfA. But...you can't get the Heart of Azeroth until level 50! So you are being forced to play BfA without the most interesting part of the expansion! And, since you will drop BfA like a bad habit once you hit 50, no Heart of Azeroth for you!

Ha, ha, the joke's on you!

4. There is no way around this problem (at least that I can find). And yes, this problem is due to simply laziness on the part of Blizz. And no, there is not a single place on the internet that explains this problem. So don't feel bad if you've looked and found nothing.

If anyone believes that I am wrong, or has a workaround that I haven't discovered, please let me know. And pardon my snark. Normally I LOVE wasting time hunting snipes, but apparently not today.

This quest dropped for me off the Glimmespine rare in Darkshore on my Evoker. I killed several rares, but this one dropped Kaldorei Archer's Spaulders for me which may be what actually triggered the quest.

If anyone is curious how to start this quest as a Dracthyr-

Please go thru the portal to Dazar'alor - and then exit out the main rest area. To your left you will find an NPC named Earthen Guardian. This NPC allows you to pick up the quest A Dying World.

After you get the Heart of Azeroth; go to the docks of Dazar'alor & relog. Nathanos should give you the quest to go talk to Sylvanas in Org!

(As of 10.1.5) If the Earthen Guardians / Nathanos aren't offering you this quest - make sure you've completed the DF intro quest To The Dragon Isles (questline starts with Wrathion - The Dragon Isles Await).

After completing the DF intro quest, the Earthen Guardian FINALLY offered A Dying World.

The Blizz support article says don't be on the DF intro quests (which I interpreted as "not in your questlog"), but this is incorrect - I had to actually complete the questline (which only takes ~5 mins)

EDIT: (11.0.2) - This may be different now, with some TWW quests involving the Chamber of the Heart causing some OTHER problems as well.

If you have picked up this quest and then dropped it like I did, you need to goto Boralus (Alliance) and talk to the Earthern Guardian on the dock to pick it back up.
He doesnt have an ! mark, and he is skulking in a door way. Not very obvious, I missed him 3 times.
I had the issue I was locked in the Intro quests for DF.
I ran all the scripts to check which part of the quest was True/False. (you can do this by going onto the My Profiles tab of Wowhead and choosing the character you are playing on. Each quest on Wowhead has a script that you can copy/paste into your chat bar - it then tells you if you have completed it) This was helpful to me to retrace my steps.
I am adding my experience here incase its useful to anyone else that is (without meaning to be insulting) as stupid as I am

IMPORTANT NOTE!
For all of you who may be adventuring on an alt and want to get into say Mechagon, you have to do a set of quests in your faction's Kul'tirian zones (Boralas and Zandalar). In Boralas, as this is something I am doing on my Alliance alt, I can pick up this quest "A Dying World" from Earthen Guardian (Magni's messanger) who is by The Snug Harbor Inn (above the bank), but I cannot get to him at the Encampment in Silithus, nor is he available once I get into the Chamber of the Heart because I had no choice but to take these TWW quest chains for the memory events going on right now. The Magni we need for this quest, A Dying World, is phased out. You cannot find him by going to Zidormi in the North-East area of Silithus as she only sends you back to a time before the Sword hit the planet.

As of July 30th, 2024, I am guessing this phasing is for the War Within pre-patch quest line for the Radiant Echoes. Do these TWW quests up to the point where you have gathered Magni's family to him in Legion Dalaran. Once the Campaign quest icons above Magni's family member disappears (quest done), you are left with a normal quest ! icon over Khadgar's head, which is about doing these "Azeroth memories" events. Ignore that quest he gives and head back to Silithus however you can.

As a mage, I teleported to Stormwind, used the portal to the Caverns of Time, and took the taxi from Bootlegger Outpost to Oasis of Vir'sar in Uldum. Then flew to Magni's Encampment to the west of the giant sword, where Magni is waiting, standing on the precipice above the portal pad to the Chamber of the Heart. He is offering you the BfA campaign quest "The Heart of Azeroth", take it and continue on your journey to getting your toon ready to adventure on Kul'tiras. As an addition, once you get to the quest "Essential Empowerment", the chamber is empty and I had to leave via the teleport pad, go up to the surface and then return back to the chamber. Magni and the titan chamber guardian MOTHER, were there, he had the quest available as well as the ones to follow.

If it seems like you cannot find something in this chamber, it is likely due to the phased events going on with TWW quests. Don't log out, just use the chamber's entry/exit pad to portal back to the surface and then return. This worked fine. Once you have completed the quests that take you to High Mountain (Legion) I noticed that the portals to Silithus and Nazjatar were available in the Sanctum of the Sages.

Description

Champion. Magni Bronzebeard needs your help. Azeroth is dying. Before this war, a massive demon called Sargeras stabbed the planet with a sword. Our planet cries out in pain while the Horde and Alliance fight amongst each other. Magni Bronzebeard believes you can help heal the planet's wounds. Meet him in Silithus.
