Overwatch Servers Will Go Down Temporarily Before Launch

It’s no small feat to launch a video game! To do so for Overwatch 2, we’ll be taking the current version of Overwatch down starting at approximately 9:00 a.m. PDT on October 3. This means October 2 is your last full day to play the original Overwatch! Thanks for playing, and for your support as we celebrate Overwatch entering a bright and exciting new era.

With that, you’re all set! We look forward to grouping up with you soon in Overwatch 2!

So the original game won’t be playable at all anymore. What about the money I spent to purchase the game? Nothing said that it was going to be shut down in the future, I would never buy the game had that been the case. There is no compensation for it either to my knowledge?
Could’ve made the purchase of OW 2 a bit cheaper for players who’ve had it for x ammount of years.

(Just as an example)Comment by AzrajinSo if you own Overwatch 1 you get a founders pack which is a logo, 2 legendary skins for sombra and doom and access to Kiriko at launch (the new support that is currently locked behind the battle pass at level 55 if you don't have premium.

You don't lose anything.

1. All your cosmetics are transferred over from OW1 to OW2
2. All your currency retained goes to buying epic and legendary skins for the new heroes
3. You can earn enough each 2 seasons (exception being 1 and 2) to buy each character battle pass with coins if you complete the weekly challenges as they alternate between maps and heroes. You get access to maps automatically which means every 2 seasons you can earn 1090 coins I believe it is which pays for a premium battle pass so at most you pay $10-$20 which is not bad.
4. They've implemented a new First Time User experience (FTUI) which means if you've never played before you unlock all the heroes over 100 matches (50 of which you have to win to get competitive)
5. All new heroes are not available in competitive for the first 2 weeks to allow for balance changes, it also gives you time to level up your BP.
6. PVE will release in early 2023 apparently.

It's no longer an RPG bunker play around double shields and pray for getting lucky it's gone back to being like 2016. For people that paid £40 for the original Overwatch all those years ago and are moaning that they're not getting a refund, may I remind you that you've had 5 years of enjoyment out of it for that paltry sum. How many triple A titles have you bought for £60 and then completed in 10 hours or less? Probably quite a lot, so please quit moaning when you probably have a few hundred hours playtime on Overwatch compared to all those other titles you spent more money on. Also, OW2 is literally F2P unless you want to spend money on the SP/BP and all your skins etc carry over into OW2. The only thing you can moan about is keeping hold of loot boxes past the deadline that Blizzard set, this they could've better communicated and rammed down our throats I suppose.Comment by Wildwalk

In fact, I liked the game a lot earlier in its life and a lot of the major changes they've been putting in have all been in the wrong direction for me.
I am hopeful that a clean slate on 2.0 will mean everything rests in a spot that makes more sense.
