Seems to be bugged sometimes. One of my chars artifact weapons wont go above ilvl 35 despite consuming tons of these during the campaign quests.

edit; And as it turns out, I had so much crap in my bags I didn't notice they were items in my bags which you had to actually right click to consume. 100 ilvls gained by rightclick 18 times on an item called Artifactium Sand! :D

In case anyone else has this same issue as me, I have a character that cannot obtain these. I've opened well over 100 boxes and scrapped well over 100 pieces of gear and did not get any. No it's not just in my bags. I can get it on a different character. I did not find any solution to this i've done all the bazaar quests.

I think I have a SERIOUS problem! I leveled up by joining as a restoration druid but with the feral druid weapons equipped. While leveling, I didn't worry about not being able to drop any artifact sand. Now I'm back to level 80, with 590 gear pieces but with my fearl weapons stuck at level 73... Is it possible that I didn't drop the upgrades because I joined as a healer but had the DPS weapons equipped?

Got the same bug with my druid. Tried everything I could think of. Got all 4 artifact weapons and still no drops. Weapons stuck at item Level 40. Guess that char is just lost for the time being.

How such a big bug could have been missed during PTR testing is beyond me. There seem to many cases judging from other forums.

Just let us buy this with Bronze if you're not going to fix the drop bug.

Edit: I'm *also* a Druid with the bug.

Edit #2: Swapped to Normal at level 76, and between 76-80 my weapons went from ilvl 345 to 571.

They should be in your bag. I was wondering the same. The yellowish color of them (item icon stroke) maybe made it to look like difficult to notice. You have problably moved the item in the beginning somewhere in your bag as I had done. Didn't know what it was trash, or something important.

Just going to make a note here, for those that might have missed it. When you first start the Legion Remix main quests, you are given "temporary" versions of the artifact weapon, that are only supposed to be good until level 35. You have to do the class questline to "re-obtain" the actual artifacts, in order to get one that can be upgraded fully. Otherwise you will end up like me, where your weapon lags way behind the rest of your gear as you level. Hope this makes sense and helps someone.

If you're hoarding the boxes and only opening a few at a time, for some reason the sands seem less likely to drop. I had about 10 boxes in my bags at all times and got no sands from level 60-80. By level 80, my weapon was 200 ilvls lower than the rest of my gear. After running a few raids at 80 with no sand drops, I opened all my boxes and got 5 sand drops immediately afterwards.

Sand wasn't dropping for me. My Issue was I wasn't opening the chests. I was hoping that they'd have a higher iLvl piece of gear if I opened them later. They don't. Open the chests as soon as you can.

There's currently a bug right now for certain accounts that prevents either of the two sands from dropping past a certain progression point on your weapon.

How to fix:
1. Unequip Artifact Weapon.
2. Equip Artifact Weapon.
3. Relog.

Can anyone help me ? My friend got to lvl 80 in 5 hours he tells me I need to upgrade my weapon. Its currently at 26% bonus xp. How do I get it to 100% like his ?

after i reached lvl 80 i did not get these to drop at all. I also opened some of my caches and noting, but I was saving them up for later. Later on after i was ilvl 604, but my weapon was stuck at 584, I opened all of my caches, after that it started to drop slowly from every content. Hope it helps

Had the same issue with artifact update, i used over 100 boxes not getting the artifactium sand, tried many things without any success, till I turned OFF HEROIC MODE, after that I got from every box an artifact weapon update.

I had this issue on my Retribution Paladin. I tried the tips people were giving — unequipping and re-equipping, and also completing the class quests. While doing those quests, I was accompanied by another Paladin who had already upgraded his weapon. I had never even seen any Artifactium Sand.

But this is what solved my weapon bug:

I switched to Protection spec. Then I equipped my Truthguard, used all my talent points, and applied all my . Finally, as a Protection Paladin, I got my first Artifactium Sand from a Cache of Infinite Treasure — yay! Somewhere in that sequence of actions, the problem was fixed. My guess is that switching spec and artifact weapon can solve the issue.

So my suggestion is to try a different artifact weapon and specialization then collect some caches to open till you get some sand, and then after that switch over to your prefered spec.

As Im writing this Im very happy to announce that my weapon now is item level 51! (at lvl 80) No more tears after raids and dungeons! :D Good luck! I hope that solves your problem too.

One reason of issue can be all yours chests that you collected to open in future. It attached to the ilvl at the time of receipt and the game for some reason will not allow you to receive dust until all the chests are opened.
Open all collected chests. This helped me

If you're not getting Artifactium Sand, it might be because you've got two artifacts.

Seems to me, it drops while using the artifact you got most recently; for me, I was playing Frost DK, got Apocalypse, and seems as though I stopped getting the sand after that, but when I went to Unholy, using Apocalypse, I'm getting the sand again.

Whether this is intended or a bug, I have no idea. I'm just saying, use the other artifact you got and maybe it work.

This stuff isn't dropping for me at all as of the Infinite Timeways patch. All of my gear is 779 now except my weapon which is stuck at 740 for some reason. Tried switching specs, unequipping, equipping and relogging. Nothing works.

TLDR: Complete any quests that are under the "artifact" category in your quest log. Then scrap some gear, do some quests, open some chests etc and you should start seeing some sand drop.

On my max level DK, I had the same problem with this not dropping for many hours, over multiple patches spanning several weeks. My weapon was a solid 30ilvls below everything else. I'll post my "fix", though I obviously can't guarantee it will work for everyone.

- Ive been playing primarily blood spec, but I made sure my other two offspec artifact weapons had infinite power fully allocated and spent. (some people have stated that this alone fixed the issue for them)

- I tried the unequip weapon, re-equip weapon, relog to no avail. I did it on all 3 specs and weapons to be sure. (Lots of people seem to say this worked for them, so definitely try this first)

- Putting my other offspec weapons in the bank didn't help.

- Lastly, I noticed I had this artifact quest in my quest log and decided to complete it to see if that fixed it, as others may have suggested. I did the re-equip, unequip, and relog on all 3 specs again just to be sure.
The quest seemed to be the problem. I got some boxes from a few quests, scrapped some gear, and started seeing artifactium sand drop again. My weapon caught up in ilvl fairly quickly.

A bit crazy that this is still a bug this far into Lemix. No blue posts about it, and no surefire fix that I could find.

To anyone still not getting this item after the cap increase check your bank. I had put mine in there once I hit the old cap and once getting it out I started getting sand again.

This is pure speculation on my part but in my experience it seems that the drop rate of Artifactium Sand is "rigged" internally by Blizzard as a catch-up mechanism to make sure your artifact weapons' item level doesn't lag too far behind the best piece of gear you currently have equipped because most of the time they have the exact same value
